Best natural exfoliant
Skin foods black sugar wash off mask is one of my many staple in my skin care a year and a half ago when I decided to dip my toe into the world of skin care and reform my skin finding an exfoliation routine was my first step and I found this beauty. I’m now on my third bottle of this stuff. ✨ My skin care routine has changed a lot since then I use many other masks and exfoliation products but i still use this because it makes my skin so soft it smells wonderful and it super gentle if you’re just starting off. You can use water which helps dissolve the sugars so it’s gentler or you can use it dry for a better exfoliation. It’s super hydrating from the Shea butter and you’re just going to love it.
Better Pick: Physical or Chemical Exfoliation?
If you want to get rid of dullness and reveal your radiant, glowing skin, your best bet would be to exfoliate. But the thing is, there are two kinds of exfoliation, physical and chemical. Is there a difference in the effects? Which one should you try? Having tried both, I can say these two things with certainty: - There’s a big difference between the effects that I saw after doing both. - There is such a thing as too much exfoliation. Let’s talk about physical exfoliation first. Physical exfoliation refers to exfoliating your skin using products like scrubs and facial tools. With physical exfoliation, you’re literally stripping away the top layer of your skin that contains all the dead cells. Doing so reveals your fresh skin underneath. My first foray into exfoliation was me making use of physical exfoliators. In fact, when I was still in college, my favorite scrub was SKINFOOD - Black Sugar Strawberry Mask Wash Off It contained granules that would gently scrape my dead skin cells, making my skin feel soft and smooth afterward. Plus, the 100 ml tub which cost around $12 was big enough to last for the whole year already. Everything changed when I found out about chemical exfoliation. As its name suggests, the acids in chemical exfoliation help remove the outer layer of the skin. This means that if you do it right, there’s little to no physical damage that could possibly be done to your skin, unlike physical exfoliation. These days, I’m all for chemical exfoliation. Aside from my regular The Ordinary - Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution I also have another AHA essence COSRX - AHA 7 Whitehead Power Liquid Both TO’s Glycolic Acid Toner and COSRX’s AHA 7 Liquid costs $18 each for a 240ml bottle and a 100ml bottle respectively. I also use an over-the-counter 30% Glycolic Acid solution twice a month. Their effects may not be as instant as physical exfoliation, but I noticed that they’re more long-term. Back when I was still using a physical exfoliator, my skin would only look good for a few days after exfoliating, but with chemical exfoliators, my skin just looks better and better as time goes by. Remember, too much exfoliation isn’t good, and it can lead to breakouts, redness, and increased sensitivity. Whether you choose chemical or physical exfoliation, always keep in mind that you shouldn’t do it more than a few times per week!

Battle of the Aloe Veras! K beauty skincare
SKINFOOD - Aloe Vera 93% Soothing Gel HOLIKA HOLIKA - Aloe 99% Soothing Gel I read that aloe is supposed to help soothe dry skin and I had an Ulta coupon so I bought both of these and the HOLIKA HOLIKA - Aloe Facial Cleansing Foam because I already know I like that one (separate review to follow). I’ve used both of these for my morning and night time routine and there’s one that is slightly better than the other. I used the Skinfood first, right after I had washed my face and put toner on, and it actually burned a little which is weird for a product that should be soothing. I tried it in the morning after I put on toner and it didn’t burn, and I’m not sure if it having 93% aloe rather than a higher percentage made that difference or not. This also has a slight scent, so maybe that’s what that other 7% is. 🤷🏻♀️ I still like it but maybe it’s for more like a soothing sunburns type of product than a face product. The Holika Holika Aloe I’ve use before and I love it! It’s 99% aloe which is great, it feels like the closest thing to aloe straight from the plant. It has a scent but I think that’s it’s natural. This didn’t sting at all and felt really soothing. I definitely prefer this one to the Skinfood one, but I’d prefer the Skinfood over like Walmart or Target brand aloe by far.
Sensitive Skin Ingredients
This is a great guide to show skin sensitive issues ingredients! When I was dealing with skin barrier inflammation, some of these products saved my life. Ingredients I swear by: Aloe Vera: this is great for inflammation and red skin. The plant is amazingly effective, but you can also buy the 100% gel at your local store as well! Fruit of the Earth - Aloe Vera 100% Gel SKINFOOD - Aloe Vera 93% Soothing Gel Green Tea: The tea is a favorite I drink every morning, but I also love this in mask form! TONYMOLY - I'm Real Green Tea Sheet Mask Vitamin C Derivative: There’s many forms of Vitamin C. The strongest, L- Ascorbic Acid, is mostly toted for their effects, but there are other options. Sodium Ascorbly Phosphate, Magnesium Ascorbly Phospahte, etc. If you have skin sensitivity (burning, tingling, etc) to Vitamin C I recommend : Seoul Ceuticals - 20% Vitamin C Hyaluronic Acid Serum Mad Hippie - Vitamin C Serum Lukewarm Water to Rinse: I recommend this no matter type of skin you have. Hot water can dry your face out, making you skin more irritable and sensitive. Less is Key: When experiencing sensitivity it can often be associated to new products and the amount you use on your face. You do not need a 10 step routine to treat skin issues I found when I was using 3-4 steps my skin was treated just as effectively, you just need to find what works for your skin. Mineral sunscreen: There are two types of sunscreen physical and mineral. Physical are usually chemical based and can cause irritation. Some great mineral sunscreens I’ve tried: Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 Neutrogena - Sensitive Skin Face Liquid Sunscreen SPF 50 My skin is not as sensitive as it was before but this is great photo I got from (babeandbeauty on IG).

Soft Skin ASAP: Three Fool-Proof Ingredients
Anti-aging ingredients are great but sometimes I just want results and I want them now!! Ya get me? Here are three products starring ingredients that may not have the research papers to 💯 back up its long term anti-aging effects but have given life back to my parched face. But more importantly, all three products have given me baby soft cheeks after a single usage and that’s what I live for! 1. Fermented Mugwort (Artemisia) 🌿 Product: MISSHA - Time Revolution Artemisia Treatment Essence Ingredient: Fermented Mugwort has been an East Asian beauty secret for ages. Ive been using Missha’s Artemisia/Mugwort Essence as a PM toner and I can tell you that this product has instantly softened and rehydrated my skin overnight. Benefits: Mugwort is a herbal plant that is naturally packed with vitamins A and C. The fermentation process in this particular product is known to deliver faster results than other similar dupes. Known to reduce redness and soothe dry/irritated skin. 2. Bífida Ferment Lysate 🍦 Product: ESTĒE LAUDER - Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Multi-Recovery Complex Ingredient: Bífida Ferment Lysate, a probiotic as worthy as gold for overnight results in achieving soft supple skin. Benefits: First used in the serum patented by Estée Lauder, BFL is like yogurt for the skin- world reknown for its benefits. Protects skin barrier and UV induced DNA damage. 3. Propolis Honey Extract 🍯 Product: SKINFOOD - Royal Honey Propolis Enrich Essence Ingredient: Propolis extract has been used for thousands of years to speed up traumatic burns and wound recovery. It is no wonder that this 66.3% black bee propolis extract instantly resolved any skin irregularities on my face. Despite the high concentration of extract (it’s not actual “honey”), this serum is super light and doesn’t dry sticky at all! Great for layering. Benefits: known to increase cell turnover, decrease inflammation and heal damaged skin barrier/cuts. Cheers to soft skin 🥂
Routine Suggestions? 🤪
As you can see, I have normal acne, though sometimes it can be cystic / nodule acne that has no whitehead, its just inflamed and hurts a lot. I also [obviously] have pretty enlarged pores and skin texture problems with some dark spots and uneven tone. My skin type is combination / dehydrated / acne-prone My current routine (in order) is this: AM: - CeraVe - Hydrating Face Cleanser For Normal To Dry Skin I enjoy how this makes my skin feel because my skin can be really dehydrated, though I don’t know if this is the best cleanser for my skin? Its just something I’ve used with some luck. - J.R. WATKINS - Heritage Store Rosewater & Glycerin Spray I enjoy how this toner feels since its light and semi-hydrating, it doesn’t bother my skin and its calming - The Ordinary - Marine Hyaluronics - The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 both because I have dehydrated skin, so hydration is key 🔑 for me - The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% for the pores ⚔️ - SKINFOOD - Royal Honey Propolis Enrich Essence I looove this essence for the hydration - COSRX - Advanced Snail 92 All in One Cream I do love this moisturizer because its the only one I’ve found that actually hydrates my skin - DESERT ESSENCE - Organic Jojoba Oil I use just about two drops of jojoba to seal in the moisture by patting my face - Eucerin - Daily Protection Moisturizing Face Lotion Sunscreen SPF 30 lastly, SPF, I don’t really like this one because it leaves a horrible whitecast (even on my fair skin!) but it does keep my face moisturized too PM: - GARNIER - SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water All-in-1 Cleanser & Makeup Remover I am thinking to switch to the rosewater version, but maybe a probiotic / hydrating toner would be better? 🤔 - CeraVe - Hydrating Face Cleanser For Normal To Dry Skin - J.R. WATKINS - Heritage Store Rosewater & Glycerin Spray - The Ordinary - Marine Hyaluronics - The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 - The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% - SKINFOOD - Royal Honey Propolis Enrich Essence - COSRX - Advanced Snail 92 All in One Cream - DESERT ESSENCE - Organic Jojoba Oil I also use The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution every TUE and SAT for exfoliation I’m mostly posting this to expand my skincare trials and see what you guys think for combating acne / dehydration / large pores / uneven tone / texture! I love seeing everyone’s comment on other posts about things to try. So since my routine is still fairly new (3 weeks) I want to see what you guys suggest from your experience! 🙂

Who doesn’t love a good texture shot, these are one of my favorite shots! I love them! Anyone else a fan of texture shots like me? YUNI - Gliding Light Illuminating Balm SKINFOOD - Egg White Pore Mask Kate Somerville - Cold Cream Moisturizing Cleanser + Makeup Remover
Old vs New: Pore Cleansing Face Masks
I found a lot of my favorite makeup products through long trial and error. But when it comes to face masks, I’m still looking for what works for me. I have sensitive skin, and wanted to pick up a reusable mask to give myself a spa day. SkinFood’s Egg White Pore Mask attracted me because of its low cost, and focus ingredients. It claims to be pore refining, so I gave it a go after my shower. It has a very thick, pasty texture. I put a noticeable layer around my face, and let it sit for 10 minutes. After it dried, I rinsed it off. I didn’t notice any redness in my skin, which was already a plus. I’ve used masks that make my face immediately look like a tomato before, so I knew this was a gentle product. This mask mattified my face, cleansing it of oil. I ran a clean finger down my cheeks after using it, and it felt smooth, like how my face feels after a wash. Plus, I did notice my pores looked tighter. Later, I heard great reviews for the Freeman Avocado & Oatmeal Facial Clay mask. It was voted as an Allure Reader’s Choice Award Winner in 2015, and also claims to deep clean pores. After using both, I decided to start purchasing this mask instead. It has more ingredients like Colloidal Oatmeal and Avocado Oil that seem to make it both purifying and moisturizing. When I first applied it, it went on more liquidy than the Egg Mask. It dried down in 10 minutes, and then I washed it off. I ran my finger down my face after this treatment, too, and noticed my skin felt more humid. But not so humid that it wasn’t cleaned. I think this mask does the same thing as the Egg Mask, but more. And it an approx. cost of $3 for 6 fl oz (vs ~$10 for 4.2 fl oz) I think it gives you more bang for your buck.

The SMELL on this babe! It smells amazinggggg. Loving this SKINFOOD - Black Sugar Honey Mask Wash Off . I love how it feels going on and then love rubbing it in and exfoliating when rinsing off. The scrub has larger pieces but isn’t irritating. Love as a makeup prep step to get all the dead skin off befofe doing a face. The sugar granules exfoliate but apparently sugar is also a humectant which means it draws moisture from the environment into the skin, providing great hydration! How I use it: after toner, before moisturizer
The FARMACY - BEE CLEAN is extremely gentle— like the title suggests. It smells incredible but the smell is quite strong so maybe stay away if you’re sensitive to fragrance. It leaves your skin so hydrated and doesn’t ever strip your skin. It’s formulated without any harsh ingredients so it’s amazing for anyone with sensitive skin who don’t mind fragrance. The FARMACY - Honeymoon Glow Serum is the BEST product I’ve used hands down. It burns a little but I’m not new to exfoliation so it was bearable and went away after a while. Waking up after using this— I was blown away. All my small pimples were gone. My skin looked so clear and was glowing. The product is not cheap. I first tried it when I got it in a boxycharm but after using it, I knew I had to repurchase. I ended up buying the set with the cleanser, oil and serum and it was $86 CAD for the set, which is a good deal because the serum itself is $77 CAD. This is one of those products that I will keep repurchasing because it works so well on my skin. I highly highly recommend. The FARMACY - Honey Potion Renewing Antioxidant Hydration Mask is an amazing mask if your skin feels dry and irritated. I’ve never used a mask like this. It warms up as you rub it in which feels really soothing. As you rub it in, it turns into a creamy white consistency. The morning after using this, my skin is so hydrated and so moisturized, it feels incredibly soft. I have only used this mask two times now so I have yet to see what it does for my skin long-term. The FARMACY - Honey Grail Ultra-Hydrating Face Oil once again, this smells incredible! The consistency is very thick and it feels like you’re putting raw honey on your face. Again, PERFECT for people with dry, sensitive skin. The only thing I don’t like about it is that it can get very sticky. I save this oil for when I feel my skin needs the hydration but it becomes too much on a daily. The SKINFOOD - Black Sugar Honey Mask Wash Off is the only product that isn’t from Farmacy. Anyone who really loves skincare has to try Korean skincare! This product is from skinfood, a Korean brand. I can only give a first impression on this product because I’ve only used it once. This is a physical exfoliant, which I don’t use often as I prefer chemical exfoliation. This is great for people who prefer a physical exfoliation because it’s very gentle and will not irritate your skin. It smells heavenly and leaves your skin nice and hydrated. Not to mention, the packaging is so cute and part of the reason I purchased the product. Honey is one of the best natural ingredients for your skin. It has anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial properties and super hydrating, making it extremely beneficial for your skin. I really encourage anyone who wants to incorporate honey into their skincare.

Soft Exfoliator that leaves skin GORGEOUS
This is a brand that really stood out to me when I started getting into skincare, and transformed the health of my skin. This Korean skin care brand has improved my skin's texture, brightness, and helped with my acne. This product in particular is a face mask that you actively massage into the skin for 10-15 minutes. (It's tedious, but it works WONDERS!) This mask contains amazing ingredients such as: Rice- a rich source of vitamin E which is an antioxidant that fights aging and free radical damage. Linoleic acid- Has anti-inflammatory and moisturizing properties that soften the skin and supports cell regeneration (making it amazing for fighting acne and scars) This face mask is a must have in your skin care box if you want something that exfoliates and leaves the skin soft and healthy! I give this product 4/5 because it does contain alcohol and fragrance which can be negative for some skin types, however I have sensitive skin and haven't experienced any negative side effects from using this product. This product is retailed for only $10.00 at ulta.com.
TextureTuesday: SkinFood Rice Mask Wash Off 🍚
The main focus of the “soft scrub” mask is to brighten dull, rough and lackluster skin. It is a white, watery mask that has rice pieces in it. You apply it SKINFOOD - Rice Wash-Off Face Mask on clean, damp skin. It is a thin formula and dries clear when applied in a thin layer avoiding the eyes and mouth. Rinse with lukewarm water after 10-15 minutes. The rice line for people with normal to dry skin. I have been using this product for about a year now. It is too thin of a formula to use as a hydrating mask during the winter. The mask does off a VERY slight exfoliation because of the rice pieces. The rice granulars tend to stick to your face if you are trying to wipe it off with a face cloth. I would recommend that you try splashing it off your face to get most of the particles off your face first. I got this product from Amazon. It has a nice scent that I don’t think would be overwhelming to people with a sensitivity. Would I recommend? I would recommend this for a nice, thin mask during the summer. I am not sure that it would be hydrating enough for people with dry skin. Once I finish this product I will not get it again any time soon since I have other more hydrating masks to go through. (Also, I have seen a few comments on Amazon saying it may have been reformulated. I can’t confirm or deny it.) Specs: • $10 for 100g on the official website. • $9.99 for 100g on Amazon.
Nothing like curling up with a book and a face mask. ✨ I like this onekind - Pore-fectionist Refining Facial because it doesn’t make my skin tight or dry during it and seemed to give my skin a subtle glow afterwards. I’ve also been liking the Murad - Hydro-Dynamic Ultimate Moisture for Eyes because it’s moisturizing without being too heavy. Also the jar is huge and is going to last forever. 😂 I’m on the fence with the SKINFOOD - Peach Sake Pore Serum because it might be breaking me out unfortunately, so I’ve been using it too sporadically to really say. It does tighten pores and mattify skin if you’re an oily girl like me!
This is a k-beauty recommendation I took someone up on for its effects on minimizing pores and firming skin. It has a nice peach scent and a very airy cream texture which I do like. I did notice of this is the last thing I add before makeup it does mattify my skin, but all in all it actually causes more sebum production due to the drying effects of the alcohol. If this isn’t that much of a concern, then for $8 it mag be worth it. Overall, it does what it says to a degree but I am not sold on it as beneficial to my skins overall health, which is my main concern when looking to skincare.
Just Peachy 🍑
Some of my favorite peachy products! I scooped up another Too Faced - Peach Perfect Comfort Matte Foundation 50% off on their website! It’s one of my top fave foundations for oily skin. It stays in place all day, not super matte and just sits beautifully on my skin. Highly recommend! The SKINFOOD - Peach Jelly Soothing Gel 90 is kind a sticky to use on the face and pills a little, so it’s a good moisturizer for my body.
I tried the skinfood Black Sugar Splash Mask over the last few days and my first impressions were good! If you've tried a splash mask before you'll know that it's kind of a concentrated toner that you mix with water to splash over your face. I don't like to be too fussy with my skincare so generally splash masks aren't my cup of tea because of the mixing involved, but I loved that this one gave the option of splashing it over a wet face and then rinsing with water. Much easier. I loved how this felt! It was refreshing and I felt like my skin was more moisturized after rinsing, kind of a good pre-toner moisture step. Unlike other splash masks I've tried, this one felt super gentle and didn't sting my eyes. In addition to Skinfood's signature black sugar, this also includes rice ferments and PHA to gently brighten the skin. And it smells like a treat -- a caramelized citrus scent, if that makes any sense haha! I always like using products more if they smell yummy, as long as the fragrance isn't too strong.
skinfood black sugar masks. Did you know there's a coconut sugar mask now too? I did not know that before and now I'm a bit obsessed. Unlike the other two masks (honey and strawberry) it's not very gritty but more of a decadent caramel cream, and unlike the other two which are more straightforward scrubs, you leave the coconut sugar one on to soak in before gently massaging and rinsing off. I think of these masks as a sweet treat for my skin 😁😋. They smell amazing, feel good, and leave my skin feeling smooth. For the sugar scrubs I'm always careful to use them on damp skin to prevent injuring my skin and use enough water so that they're not harsh. Also these are a perfect little treat if you're on a budget as they're only $10 each and are 100% worth it for the joy they spark, in my opinion!

Been really liking this Skinfood Freshmade Lemon Mask. Got this from tjmaxx for $4 and it’s got a ton of product in it. 🍋 I’m always looking for new brightening products to test out so I was immediately drawn to this product. I prefer gel masks like this one because they’re easy to apply & feel soothing on my face. 👍🏾 This mask is packed with vitaminc, including lemon peel oil & lemon peel powder. It does have a faint fragrance but it’s not overpowering. ✔️ My skin feels really good and hydrated after I use this but I think I like their Watermelon mask even more. I’ll be sure post about that one soon. 😊
The Routine That is Slowly Saving My Skin!
Oh boy. This has been the worst month my skin has had since I was a teen. But here is the routine that is slowly but surely rescuing my highly reactive, dry, acne-prone, aging skin! Here’s a round up of a few K Beauty things I’ve been playing with... . ▪️Skin Food Royal Honey Propolis Enrich Toner—A creamy almost emulsion more than toner with propolis, royal jelly, honey, lactobacillus & yeast. I love that it’s not heavily scented but I’m not a huge emulsion style fan so I wasn’t into it ▪️Whamisa Organic Deep Rich Toner—Love this thicker hydrating essence style toner. Aloe, galactomyces, oat kernel, avocado oil, glycerin, peony and broccoli to name a few. This stuff is amazing. This is not my first bottle. Hall of fame ▪️CosRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser—Jelly gel style simple gentle cleanser with a low pH. It’s affordable and a pretty good one. Non-drying and fragrance free. I would totally repurchase ▪️Klairs Supple Preparation Toner—Aloe, sodium hyaluronate, gotu kola, beta-glucan, panthenol & purslane. I liked this one. Got some EOs but they do have a fragrance free version as well ▪️Manyo Factory Galactomyces Special Treatment Essence Cream Rich—I love this brand. They’re pretty clean for k beauty and have a really good range. Easily one of my fav k beauty brands. This cream was so lush I loved it. Sadly it’s taken off the site so it’s either gone or being reformulated. I order direct from their website as they have the full range ▪️CosRX Ultimate Moisturizing Honey Overnight Mask—I wanted to love this. It’s a gel with propolis (87% antibacterial & anti-inflammatory), sodium hyaluronate & adenosine. It’s light so it’s not the most hydrating sleeping mask I’d probably just use a propolis serum instead and get the same effect ▪️IUINK Centella Calming Gel Cream—A gel cream with soothing gotu kola water & tea tree water. It’s fragrance free which I love. It’s nice and I’ll use it up but I think I’ll just go serum route next time for my gotu kola. Personal preference is all ▪️IUNIK Propolis Vitamin Sleeping Mask—A bit thicker and more of a creamy gel than the CosRX with propolis (16%), sea buckthorn fruit (8%), gotu kola (5%), niacinimide, beta glucan & purslane. This one is more hydrating. Has a bit of that silicone texture. It’s was OK but not my favorite sleeping mask ever

Oil control: Skinfood - Egg White pore mask
The SKINFOOD - Egg White Pore Mask Is pore-refining mask with egg white extract that penetrates deeply into pores to remove pore-clogging oil. An egg is a powerhouse of protein! Rich in amino acids and vitamins. Suited for those who struggle with oily skin. My thoughts: I went through an entire container of this stuff this past year before I finally realized that this mask doesn’t do anything for me. It didn’t help with controlling oil at all. Its texture and consistency is kind of like a clay mask but also has a bit of a pasty texture. The good things about the mask is it didn’t do any harm. It didn’t dry out my face or cause me to breakout. It just didn’t do anything more than sit on my face and because of that I don’t like it. I would not recommend this mask to anyone. This retails for an average of $11 and you can find it on the skinfood website and YesStyle but I don’t think it’s worth trying this.
SKINFOOD-Egg White Pore Mask
Skinfood - Black Sugar Wash Perfect Essential Scrub 4/5 💮 ——— Claims to exfoliate and moisturize - Exfoliate: Yes/Moisturize: Yes Can be too rough for sensitive and dry skin types because of the grains of sugar Texture - Thick and has sugar, when in contact with water it becomes milky and dissolves fast Scent - Strong in sweetness and sugary Parabens - No This scrub leaves your skin super soft, it serves as a scrub but also conditions the skin. It smells good and you can feel the grains of sugar doing their job. It cleans well but I did not see any long-run improvements on my skin because of the product. It is more of a nice treat for your skin now and then as it really conditions the skin for a few hours and scrubs off dead skin cells. Often scrubs and skin conditioners are not found within the same product or do not make a good job on doing both but this product works well!
Today's texture is of a mask that I recently purchased. I only used it twice so I won't review it yet, but I can say that so far so good! It's like a clay mask and a peeling 2in1 (it has some exfoliating particles in it). The skin feels super smooth after using it, no irritation or redness 💚
