How I Grew Out My Natural Colour and Repaired
After 6+ years of periodically dying my hair and then trying to dye it back to my natural colour, I decided to do a bleach Balayage. It was gorgeous and I figured it would be a good way to grow out my hair. However, after bleaching, my hair was seriously damaged. I got terrible split ends and my hair was falling out much more than it used to. I’d end up with clumps of my hair coming out while I shampoos and I was terrified. Here are the steps I took to repair my hair, and grow it out in a year.
1. I switched from washing my hair every other day to twice a week. If I could’ve Got that number down to one day a week I would have. My hair was dry and brittle from dying and I needed to stop washing it so frequently.
2. I switched shampoos. I had previously been using a violet shampoo to try to maintain my Ash blonde. This was drying out my already damaged hair and I realized I needed to be using a serious repairative and restorative shampoo and condition. I used Nexxus Keraphix Conditioner and Shampoo once a week and this helped greatly to repair the damage. I alternated this set with a regular moisturizing shampoo and conditioner as using a protein set too often is not good.
3. I stopped using heat on my hair almost entirely. Previously I had used a blow dryer curling iron or flat iron a couple times a week. I started towel drying and air drying my hair [I did go into work with wet hair quite a few times] to stop using damaging heat. My hair texture can be weird sometimes so generally I wore it in a low bun so that it didn’t really matter if it was a wavy flippy style.
4. I started using coil hair ties instead of elastic bands and try to only wear loose slow buns when I wanted my hair tied back. I only wore it in tighter ponytails when I was working out.
5. I started taking biotin. This also worked wonders on my nails. The brand I take is Webber Naturals 10000mg Bioton. I take one a day to repair my hair.
6. I cut off my split ends as often as I could. Because I was really just wearing my hair in a low bun I mostly cut it myself and it was pretty uneven, if you don’t want to do this I would recommend getting a trim at a cheap salon as often as you can afford to.
So after a year I had grown out the bleached hair and my natural colour was back in and it feels extremely healthy. I still maintain most of the above tips. Photos are when I bleached my hair to now. Collage is a one year difference from when I started the routine

Nexxus – Salon crafted protein blends [ Damage healing ]
Girls check this out! I found my favorite shampoo + conditioner set. Literally it brings my hair back to life! I am the one who always do a lot of things with my hair. 2 – 4 times of coloring a year. And I flatten my hair at least 3 times a week with iron. (Just cannot stop making my hair.)My hair is strong but splits a lot. Few years ago I used to have glory hair when I wasn’t coloring it too often. Aging and sunlight does take those SHINNY away for my beautiful hair 😢. These are my 3rd set and I do have another set as my inventory. I’ve tried a lot of products, from different pricing ranges. Some of them did work well. From price–performance ratio, Nexxus beats them all. You can found this at Walmart, Shoppers. I also saw it in many salons. I got these on sale for 13 bucks per bottle (that would be around 30 CAD after tax) which was not that bad especially as a salon crafted product. I’ve tried the other series from Nexxus. This damage healing version is the best. The customized formula with keratin protein and black rice in this product brings the smooth and healthy look. You can feel the difference right away when you use it for the first time. Highly recommended for those severely damaged hair.

Nexxus Clean & Pure Scalp Scrub
This is my FAVORITE scalp scrub! You can find it at your local Target. It smells amazing and isn’t to chunky which makes it easy to run through your hair. Since I wash my hair every 3-4 days, the scrub does a great job at taking out all the junk (oils, leave in conditioners, moose) out of my hair. NEXXUS - Clean & Pure Invigorating Detox Scalp Scrub
