Winter Routine for DRY Skin
My cheeks have been SO dry lately. It’s been a struggle to keep my sensitive combo skin hydrated with the change in weather. I’ve thus made a couple swaps from my summer routine to keep my skin moisturized and not flakey. 🌬I swapped my trusty jojoba oil in the morning for a light application of Dr. Jart+ - Ceramidin Cream (I use about half the amount I use at night- just enough to get an even layer) 🌬I went back the old CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser from their new CeraVe - Hydrating Cream-To-Foam Cleanser . Although I like the new version better, I just need every scrap of hydration I can get right now. 🌬Lastly, I recently started applying a thin layer of Aquaphor - Aquaphor Healing Ointment over my cheeks at night (post on this coming soon!) In short, my routine is now: 🌤 rinse, hydrating toner, moisturizer, spf 🌙 double cleanse, moisturizer*, ointment as needed *I swap my Ceramidin for MAELOVE - Night Renewer 2x / week

One Week Using Differin
Experience: I started using Differin about a week ago to deal with my maskne and dark spots. Ever since I started wearing masks more frequently, my skin has essentially freaked out. It’s super sensitive and dry, especially around my mouth, but I get cystic-like acne along the area where my mask touches my face. I decided that I was going to try Differin as my last resort before going to the dermatologist (cause I’m still nervous about going to doctor’s offices, unless absolutely necessary because of covid). The instructions recommend daily use; however, I began my first week by using it every other day since I’ve had negative experiences/reactions with other active ingredients before. Since then, I’ve begun using it every night. I use this in the evening after cleansing and applying moisturizer and Aquaphor’s healing ointment. Pros: I definitely already see a visible improvement in my skin, especially with the hyperpigmentation that I’ve dealt with. I do use other products that help with brightening, but I’ve been using those products for quite a while and haven’t seen such a drastic improvement until now. Cons: I experienced a few small breakouts around my chin, but they went away pretty quickly. I have yet to experience any significant purging/dryness, but I also didn’t jump immediately to daily use. Other Products I Use + Frequency: CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser (everyday, AM/PM) DRUNK ELEPHANT - Slaai Makeup-Melting Butter Cleanser(everyday to remove sunscreen, PM) The Ordinary - Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA(every other day, alternate between this and the next product/AM) The Ordinary - Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2%(every other day, alternate between this and the previous product/AM) DRUNK ELEPHANT - Protini Polypeptide Cream (everyday, AM/PM) DRUNK ELEPHANT - Umbra Sheer Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30(everyday, AM) Aquaphor - Healing Ointment Skin Protectant(everyday, use as a lip balm and to protect sensitive areas of my skin when applying Differin)

dealing with 🦠 angular cheilitis 🦠
Ever had those really painful cracks in the corner of your mouth? And it’s so hard to eat and open your mouth? And your lip corners get really red and flaky? Chances are you have angular cheilitis. What is angular cheilitis? Angular cheilitis is a condition that is usually caused by bacteria or fungus (gross, I know) that collects in the corners of your mouth when your saliva collects and dries. This leads to cracks, inflammation, scaling, redness, and flakiness. It can sometimes get ugly. You are more likely to get angular cheilitis if you: Wear braces, dentures, or retainers Lick your lips a lot (use lip balm instead!) Have a lot of saliva Sleep with your mouth open or drool in your sleep Smoke Take or use certain medications that can cause imbalances in fungus and bacteria in your body So how do you treat it? It really depends on what type of angular cheilitis you have. If it’s fungal, you should get an anti-fungal treatment. If it’s bacterial, try a topical antibiotic (you should check with your dermatologist or doctor to see if they can help you figure out what kind). You can also use some more natural remedies like tea tree oil, coconut oil, or olive oil. They all have anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties! If you’re feeling particularly dry, use coconut or olive oil to help moisturize. You can also put a petroleum jelly or something like aquaphor on your lips and corners to seal out moisture. And STOP LICKING YOUR LIPS! How do you prevent it? Make sure that you are keeping proper dental hygiene and make sure that your dental ware are properly fitted. Use a lip balm to keep your lips hydrated and moisturizer so that you reduce dryness and prevent yourself from licking your lips. I know having this is super annoying and it doesn’t look good, but it happens, so knowing how to prevent and treat it will help you when it suddenly appears on your mouth! Different formats work differently for me!!
Aquaphor - Aquaphor Healing Ointment This is the BEST lip treatment ever! 💋 So soothing and lasts for so long before having to re apply!! I use this during the day and at night!! ✨ Totally saved my lips!! Aquaphor - Lip Repair I find I have to re apply this one more frequently!! But the tub too large to carry around when I leave the house! This smaller one is perfect for a purse or a pocket! 💃🏽 Aquaphor - Aquaphor Healing Ointment At first this one was good and I had it in my backpack BUT then the consistency changed and when I squeezed out the product it came out as a watery consistency which is not correct 😬 idk if I should even continue using this tube.... I don’t like wasting products but it doesn’t really work anymore ☹️

Affordable Morning Routine!
Ulta employee here showing my affordable morning routine! Everything is under $40 and fragrance free 😊 A little bit about my skin: - I have pretty normal skin with a slightly oily t-zone - I live in Florida, so I sweat A LOT due to the humidity - My skin can be acne prone - I get "fungal acne" very easily from heavier moisturizing ingredients (and many niacinamide serums for some reason) Now for the routine! I cleanse with CeraVe - Foaming Facial Cleanser For Normal To Oily Skin and oh my god this has made the biggest difference with the "fungal acne" (I use quotes because its not really acne). I used to have congested pores all over my face and no matter what I did, they wouldn't go away! I was looking for drugstore cleansers and happened to find this, and I haven't had any issues since. Highly recommend! After gently patting my face dry, I'll use the Mad Hippie - Vitamin C Serum . I hate that this is relatively expensive for a drugstore vitamin c serum, but no other serum has worked as well as this one for me. I've tried similar vitamin c treatments from the ordinary and other brands, and nothing makes my skin feel as soft, bright, and hydrated as mad hippie. Recently, I'll also take any excess and put it near my under-eye area to help with dark circles, and its making a big difference! I've already repurchased this product, so I highly recommend. I struggle with fine lines around my eyes, so I love using DERMA•E - Firming DMAE Eye Lift Cream AM and PM. I'm on my 3rd bottle of this and I've noticed a big reduction in fine lines, dark circles, and creasing when I wear concealer. This is one of the best eye creams out there in my opinion. I moisturize with CLINIQUE - Clinique iD : Moisturizer + Concentrate for Fatigue . I use the jelly base with the fatigue cartridge for lightweight hydration, additional antioxidants, and glowing skin throughout the day. My skin always feels soft, supple, and bright... so much so that I have 2 extra cartridges sitting in my bathroom so that I never run out 😂 SUNSCREEN, SUNSCREEN, SUNSCREEN! I love LA ROCHE-POSAY - Anthelios 60 Clear Skin Dry Touch Sunscreen SPF 60 even though its a chemical sunscreen. I tried to switch to mineral sunscreen recently, and every single one that I tried always made me look like a ghost, felt like I was rubbing chalk on my skin, or broke me out. This sunscreen is oil-free, contains antioxidants for extra protection, and is dry to the touch so it won't feel greasy at all. I'm on my 3rd (?) bottle of this and I don't see myself switching any time soon. DON'T FORGET LIP SPF! I really like Aquaphor - Lip Repair + Protect Broad Spectrum SPF 30 because its very moisturizing and really hydrates the lips. We see people coming in all the time for lip scrubs, but you don't need one if you properly moisturize and protect your lips!

🔎Petroleum products in skincare
I figured I would give these slides I made their own post since so many people seemed to find it helpful. ⚠️DISCLAIMER: I’m not a skincare expert. This information is based on my own internet research. It’s easy to find conflicting information about almost any topic or Ingredient, so don’t freak out if you use some of these ingredients. I grew up using all things Vaseline & cheap drugstore products in the house... I think I first had reservations about Vaseline when trying to use it as a lip balm replacement. It didn’t offer anything beyond the illusion of hydration at first, leaving me craving a reapplication. When I learned about what it actually does I understood why. In 2020 there are so many petroleum product free products available at affordable prices, but it’s important to note that these ingredients are still prevalent in so many drugstore skincare products & even in highend products like La Mer crème. Aside from Vaseline brand, it’s uncommon to find information regarding the refinement process of petroleum products in the US, making it harder to know what’s safe... These ingredients are still so prevalent despite the concerns simply due to their very cheap manufacturing costs. They’re also in shampoos, conditioners & body lotions. The use of these ingredients skincare products has been banned in Europe if the full refinement history is not disclosed. Why people use Vaseline: There are 2 different types of moisturizers. Products like essences & serums hydrate the skin without the waxes & emollients that make creams & lotions thick, so they don't clog pores or feel greasy or heavy. This first type adds moisture to the skin & the other stops or “blocks” the natural moisture that your skin produces from being lost to the atmosphere. Due to the large molecule size of Vaseline, it coats of the outer layer of your skin to prevent water loss, but cannot be truly absorbed. (See my last 2 posts to discover an interesting moisturizing product that actually has the same molecular size as our skin particles!) So in theory, Vaseline is used as a skin protectant. Vaseline brand petroleum jelly is purified & refined to a level that the FDA considers non-carcinogenic. Personally I would steer clear of it for lip balm because there are so many other options to hydrate without the consumption risk. 👄I added a slide of a few popular lips balms w/ petrolatum is the 1st ingredient. It’s also important to think about the cleanliness of your Vaseline container. Considering it will trap any bacteria on your skin or wounds under it, what bacteria may already exist in the container? I know for me growing up, the family Vaseline jar in the bathroom was pretty gross. A lot of people still swear by this stuff, just look up “Tyra Vaseline frenzy” on YouTube... but if you have sensitive or acne prone skin, I personally don’t recommend it. Try something like pure vitamin E oil in a dropper to minimize bacteria. It will nourish dry lips & dry skin patches!

Review my AM routine for acne-prone skin
My current AM routine consists of a mix of products I’ve used for a long time and products I recently started using. I’m noticing improvements with the addition of the new products already, and it’s only been 4-5 days. Here’s the breakdown on each product: Cleanser: Cetaphil - Gentle Skin Cleanser In a previous post I had rated this cleanser a 5/5; however, I recently learned that this product contains several ingredients that are irritants, allergens, hormone disrupters and/or carcinogens. This has knocked my rating down. I have not experienced any negative effects using this cleanser in the past and I have been using it for over 1 year. I am considering looking for an alternative product after what I found in my research. Toner: VERSED - WEEKEND GLOW I recently started using this product and I am happy with the results so far. I am on day 5 currently and I feel like I am seeing brighter skin. I am skeptical of toners and this is the first one I have used in years. So far, so good! Acne treatment: #CVS Health - Targeted acne spot treatment 2.5 % benzoyl peroxide acne medication[products]#[FiveStars] this is a generic version of a product I’ve posted about previously. It’s perfect for spot treatment or all over use in acne-prone areas due to the lower percentage of benzoyl peroxide. This product was recommended by my current dermatologist to treat my acne. It works just as well as the name brand and is less expensive. Serum: The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% I am loving this serum so far! I’m on day 4 and I am noticing improvements in oil production and the appearance of my pores and acne marks already. It can feel a smidge sticky going on but otherwise I have zero complaints with this product! Eye Cream: OLAY - Total Effects Anti-Aging Eye Treatment Eye Transforming Cream I really like this eye cream. I feel like it always brightens up my under eye area and I have relatively few wrinkles and puffiness in the area thanks to this cream. My only complaint is that I wish it was cheaper. Moisturizer: Cetaphil - Facial Hydrating Lotion This is another product that I had rated higher in a previous post. I have been using this moisturizer for over a year and was disappointed when I found out that it contains ingredients that are allergens, irritants and/or hormone disrupters. I’ve never experienced negative effects with this product;however, I’m now considering looking for an affordable alternative. Otherwise, I have always loved this light yet ultra hydrating lotion. Lip moisturizer: Aquaphor - Lip Repair, Stick, Immediate Relief, Fragrance Free, 1 Stick I love aquaphor! It’s been keeping my lips smooth and moisturized for years. I recently switched from using the ointment to the lip stick and I’m loving it so far. Both work great at keeping my lips hydrated!

Dermatologist recommended acne regimen
Since I hit puberty I have suffered from acne. After years of seeing dermatologists and trying countless prescription and over the counter treatments and products I have settled on the current regimen which keeps my skin 90-95% clear most of the time. Morning Routine Cetaphil - Gentle Skin Cleanser this cleanser has been recommended by the majority of the dermatologists I have seen over the years. It works well, cleaning without over-drying skin. Neutrogena - On-the-Spot Acne Treatment this has a lower percentage of benzoyl peroxide than most other gels and creams which is recommended if you are using other stronger acne treatments in your regimen. Over treating can irritate the skin and end up causing or worsening breakouts. Cetaphil - Facial Hydrating Lotion I love this lotion. It feels lightweight but works really well. It is noncomedogenic and contains hyluronic acid. Aquaphor - Lip Repair, Stick, Immediate Relief, Fragrance Free, 1 Stick my lips split on the sides from dryness sometimes and aquaphor has always been my go to lip treatment. I apply it in the morning and evening to keep my lips smooth and prevent splitting. Evening Routine Cetaphil - Gentle Skin Cleanser DIFFERIN - DIFFERIN Acne Treatment Gel this gel works almost as well as the prescription cream I used to use when I was younger. I wish it was less expensive but it’s worth the cost to have clear skin.

Tips for Retinoid-Induced Dryness! 💦
Tips for Retinoid-Induced Dryness! 💦
I recently began using prescribed Clindamycin gel and Tretinoin cream for my acne. I already had dry, sensitive skin so adding these products has amped up those issues. So how am I dealing with my dry, irritated skin? Aquaphor - Healing Ointment Skin Protectant This ointment is designed for dry, cracked, or irritated skin. It’s clinically proven to restore smooth, healthy skin. It contains petrolatum, which acts as a skin protectant. Other ingredients include: mineral oil, ceresin, lanolin alcohol, panthenol, glycerin, and bisabolol. I mainly use this ointment on my lips, but I occasionally use it under my eyes and inside my nose if they are extra dry. FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration This cream aims to help hydrated, parched skin, as well as temporarily relieve minor irritation and itching due to eczema and other conditions. It is safe for sensitive skin, and does not contain parabens, harsh chemicals, or colorants. Its star ingredients include: colloidal oatmeal, shea butter, ceramides, and squalane. Unfortunately it does contain eucalyptus oil, but the small amount doesn’t irritate my skin. I use this cream as my AM moisturizer. It is deeply hydrating and absorbs into the skin easily. My skin feels so soft and smooth thanks to this cream. It soothes my skin after applying the clindamycin gel and reduces irritation. PURITO - Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50+ This sunscreen is perfect for dry, sensitive, acne-prone skin. It contains hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and centella asiatica extract. With its 70% moisture base and 4 different types of essences, it works like a moisturizing cream. It provides SPF50+, PA++++ protection. I use this after the Ultra Repair Cream in the AM and then reapply 1-2 times throughout the day. It provides my skin with much-needed hydration and UV protection. It’s the perfect consistency and rubs onto my skin so easily, all without being sticky. It soothes and smoothes my skin! These are just some of the products that I use. My whole routine is aimed at hydrating my skin and reducing irritation. My AM routine includes: CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser , PAULA'S CHOICE - Enriched Calming Toner , PAULA'S CHOICE - Omega + Complex Serum , Clindamycin gel, FAB Ultra Relief Cream, and Purito Centella Unscented Sunscreen. My PM routine includes the same products listed above minus the SPF and CeraVe - Skin Renewing Night Cream for my moisturizer.
