The Do’s and Don’ts for Oily, Acne Prone Skin
Knowing your skin type and skin condition is the first step to treating it. I personally have dehydrated yet oily acne prone skin. The right type of products in a routine can make a huge difference. *Disclaimer: I love all the products above except the Clinique toner (Dont use this please). I will explain below why things are good or bad for acne. Step 1: Cleanse Do - Use gel cleanser like the FARMACY - Clean Bee Ultra Gentle Facial Cleanser . The gel formula will deep cleanse the face without stripping. Don’t - Use a cream cleanser like the GEORGETTE KLINGER - Green Tea Cream Cleanser . This is more geared towards dry skin. It will cleanse and hydrate but won’t give you the deep cleanse oily/acne prone skin needs. Step 2: Treat Do - Use a product with salicylic acid like PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator . Salicylic acid is oil soluble and will dive deep into your pores breaking up any sebum or debris. Don’t - Use something with detnatured alcohol like the CLINIQUE - Clarifying Lotion 3 . It may feel good at first but the alcohol is stripping your skin and does more harm than good. In the end your face will over compensate for the stripping effect and produce more oil. Step 3: Moisturize Do - Use a gel moisturizer like the FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair BarriAIR Cream Safe for Sensitive Skin . I love this because it is free of a lot of skin irritants like fragrance and dyes. The gel formula won’t feel too heavy on the skin but will give you all the hydration benefits you need. Don’t- Use a heavy, cream moisturizer like the Milk MAKEUP - Vegan Milk Moisturizer . Heavy creams are more geared for dry skin. For oily skin it will just sit on top potentially clogging pores (plus I do believe this has some comedogenic ingredients). These are basic steps I’ve been using for a while to make my skin routine the best is can be for my skin concern. BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU PUT ON YOUR FACE
I understand that a lot of times we are so influenced by certain beauty gurus trying products just for marketing purposes or even to tell us how great the product for their skin. But there’s one thing we have to remember is that not every product will work for our skin or personally your own skin. There are a lot of name brand products and the one thing that you have to be sure is that if this product is worth buying for your skin. For me I have been quite a skin journey because I tried this one product that broke out my face badly it’s from Hellobody USA. Here’s a few things that I learned: 1. Avoid scented products even though they may smell good doesn’t necessarily that the chemicals are good for your skin 2. Pay attention to how your skin responds to the product because we see so many good reviews doesn’t necessarily mean that the product will be good for us everyone skin type is different. 3. Make sure you do your research on a product even though we see a lot of good reviews from you also want to look up the ingredients and make sure there is no toxic chemicals that could be harmful to your skin
So you picked your maskne? Now what??
Maskne is the so annoying but with my dermatillomania it can get so much worse. Most days I can avoid popping the angries but today was not that day. Stress of being uprooted to a new job site sparked this mess on the drive home. Luckily I’ve been in bed with my holy grail face mask which I love especially for acne. FARMACY - Honey Potion Renewing Antioxidant Hydration Mask now on Sephora it’s not really marketed for acne prone skin so many who suffer like me might now have even considered it but Trust me when I say I’m no where without this bad boy. The mask is originally meant for aging skin with wrinkles and loss of firmness but what I’ve liked best is this. Pros: warms up when rubbed onto skin opening the pores and increasing circulation to the skin. (Evening skin tone and redness) honey is a natural antioxidants so it makes the skin happyyyyy also honey is good to heal wounds (ahem pickers listen up) hydratinggggg and glowyyy (you will definitely tell a difference after use you will love how soft it feels) melts into skin and slowly absorbs (no residue washes off easily) (For optimal use I like to leave it on for a longgggg time! Minimum an hour if I got time because that’s when I notice the most difference after) Cons: literally haven’t found one yet. Sort of pricy is the only thing I can think of. My skin is so reactionary that looking at it sideways breaks me out and I’ve never had a reaction from this. (I’ve gone through 3 jars of this you can trust me ❤️😇) Ps: stop picking your masne but if you can’t get off ya bum and go get this I promise you’ll thank me!!

JLO Beauty........come to mama!!!!
Soooooo everyone wants to talk about celebrity skincare lines and group theM into the trash pile because what could they possibly know about skincare. Well the truth is, they probably don’t know a lot but the derms that they use to develop the product do. The real problem is that when a celebrity’s name is attached to it, the price skyrockets for whatever reason. Fenty did a good job making their products accessible I think and I wrote jlo beauty off because her product prices were ridiculous. With that being said, I decided to try a sample because the ingredient list is kinda bomb. I have been loving fermented yeast and sake in my regimen. I was nervous about the olive oil because I’ve never used it but my skin soaked it up nicely. The serum also has niacinimide, squalane, and cannabis seed oil high on the ingredient list. It feels like silk guys. Now the price for these amazing ingredients is 79 dollars. This is more my speed. I could have sworn it was originally priced at over 100 and I believe hyram confirmed that in his video. I guess they heard us lol. This puts the brand with the same prices as drunk elephant and Peter Thomas Roth. I can’t wait to get my hands on a full size of this, the wonder cream, the cleanser, and the sheet masks. When I have everything I will do a collection review.
TIPS on HOW TO use a FACIAL ROLLER
I find the hardest part about facial tools, is REMEMBERING to use them! Lol! . Here I show you how you can combine your facial roller over a sheet mask to both get the benefit of rolling and improve penetration of your hydrating sheet mask! The roller I have us from @tjmaxx (it’s jade colored stone) The sheet mask is from @traderjoes When is your favorite time to use your roller?
Squalane? The Moisture Sealer!
The Ordinary - 100% Plant-Derived Squalane First, I must admit I purchased this completely by accident. As you know the ordinary serum and oil boxes look pretty similar and I didn’t notice it wasn’t what I wanted until I got home. Secondly, I had no idea what squalane was- But when in doubt, research it and make sure it’s something you can try! Here’s a tiny bit of research on Squalane: (my experience/review on this starts below this part) The science: Your skin naturally produces “squalene” but this diminishes as we age. Squalene works as a moisture barrier between your skin and the environment. However, it deteriorates quickly when it’s not being produced (by our subaceous glands), so instead we use its more shelf-stable hydrogenated version, “Squalane” in our skin care products. Squalane is a powerful and versatile emollient (moisturizer) derived primarily from plants (sugarcane & olives) for skin care products. Though it can also be sourced from sharks (not ideal). It’s claim to fame: “to help prevent moisture loss and increases soft, supple feel” Who would benefit from this: those with skin on the dry-side of the spectrum looking for a light-weight moisturizing formula. Also, for those like myself who have slightly sensitive skin, it doesn’t irritate. It can also be used on hair, cuticles and even as a post-sun treatment! Who should skip this: anyone with oily or acne prone skin. Since Squalane is part sebum is can contribute to acne. My review: I began using this mid-winter when my skin is at peak-thirst (very, very dry). And while I am very picky when it comes to oils, I found that incorporating this into my night routine worked really well for me when my skin felt like the Sahara. It does tend to leave a slight greasy layer (as expected with an oil) but it is very light-weight. I also began adding this to the back of my hands amid the constant hand-washing and it’s been INCREDIBLE. I gave this product 4/5 because while it’s really moisturizing and my hands are silky smooth, it’s not a product I consider a staple. I use a lot of other products that feel like they have similar results. This being said, the price point is wonderful and it does what it says, so I would still recommend it for someone who suffers from really dry skin. How I use it (works best for me): At night, after cleansing and toning, use a few drop, warm in hands and press into face gently. After it absorbs into skin a little (I will usually walk away for a few minutes), continue with your night cream/sleeping mask. Note: This is just the info (from sources citing doctors and experts) I used to understand this product a bit more while I tried it out for the first time. I like researching products before I try them out since my skin likes to complain with anything new haha ✌🏼

THOUGHTS ON FARMACY’S CLEAN BEE CLEANSER
FARMACY - Clean Bee Ultra Gentle Facial Cleanser I’ve been using this cleanser for about 5 months now. Here are my thoughts so far: OVERALL OPINION: It is definitely gentle on my skin. I’ve used cleansers before that left dry patches on my cheeks & forehead area or that left my skin feeling tight. This cleanser didn’t dry out my face at all, but it also didn’t leave my skin feeling more hydrated/bright like other brands [Boscia’s cleanser is really good for this specifically!]. It has a nice texture & melts onto the skin easily. This is definitely one of my favorite cleansers I’ve tried thus far, but not a HG product. USE: I use this after removing my makeup with a makeup wipe. It helps break down any makeup or excess residue still on my face. I only need a small pump of product to remove everything. SCIENCE: The cleanser’s key ingredients include amino acids, sugar, coconut, honey, hylauronic acid, aloe, & chamomile. Honey is known for its anti/bacterial & moisturizing properties which makes it a perfect ingredient to include in a cleanser. Aloe contains antioxidants, vitamins A and C, and is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. This means that is very gentle on the skin & can help with inflammation of the skin [surface-level acne especially!] Chamomile has very similar properties. It is known for its high level of antioxidants & anti-inflammatory properties, which makes it a great ingredient to those with acne or with sensitive skin. VALUE: This cleanser is $28 at Sephora. That’s a pretty average price for a good cleanser & it’s lasted me SEVERAL months, so you get a good amount of product for what you’re paying for. I’d definitely use this cleanser in the future, but once this bottle is done I think I’ll try YTTP’s cleanser next.

BELIEVE THE HYPE? Personalized acne care.
You’ve seen the ads and the YouTube videos right? You were skeptical too? YUP, me too. Is Curology worth the investment? We’ve all seen the ads and videos. I caved in 6 months ago and decided to try curology . Last fall my skin started to break out and I had a hard time getting it under control, so I said why not and ordered my first bottle of curology . My first bottle was a really, in my opinion, generic formula. My formula was Niacinamide, Azelaic Acid, and Clindamycin. From working in a dermatology office, I knew my formula wasn’t anything special. I noticed other reviews that had the same formula, so my guess is that is the “go to” formula for basically everyone. The first formula didn’t do much for me so I reached out to my curology Dr. and she changed my formula for me. My new formula added Zinc into it and I instantly started to see a difference in my skin. Curology - Curology formula I apply this pretty much every night unless I forget. I apply it as my last serum and then lay my moisturizer and face oil over it. + it’s very hydrating. + after adjusting, the formula is just right for me. + it keeps a lot of little breakouts at bay. + when my skin needs a break from my routine, I just use this. + I pay $40 every 2 months for the bigger size bottle. This an experience catered just for my skin, so I can’t speak for everyone, but I have really enjoyed it. It’s part of my routine and I don’t plan on taking it out. If you are looking for something new to try, curology may be for you. The first bottle is free with just $5 shipping. My best advice is to give it at least 3 months to see signs of improvement and have your formula adjusted if needed! I don’t regret this and will continue to keep my subscription! . Who else has tried curology ?
Ingredients to Avoid ❌
Moving into credo and clean beauty, there are so many ingredients that have been found harmful or hazardous. This is a big step to healthy skin and future of your overall health. I did purge some phenooxyethanol based ingredients that didn’t give me results and I’m diving deeper into ones that do. Next I threw out all my chemical sunscreens (yes I threw out my Tula and Elemis) (Sources: Credobeauty.com, EWG.com, Indie Lee bad ingredients list)
KOREAN SKINCARE ROUTINE
✨AM HYDRATING/HEALING KOREAN SKINCARE ROUTINE✨I’ve been all about hydrating and healing lately. Calming. I wanted to put together a Korean skincare routine that I’ve been loving lately. Let’s break down the reasons why. 1.) TONER: super gentle and calming. Thank you bamboo water. Has HA so it’s also very hydrating. I can definitely see this as a mist as well. Def a good one to apply before any hydrating serum. 2.) SERUM: I love the texture of this one. I apply it on damp skin in the AM. It has HA and Centella Asiatica which are seriously by top 2 ingredients right now. 3.) Moisturizer: The consistency of this one is golden. It’s gel-like but thicker. I’ll get on my stories to show y’all the consistency at some point. 4.) Lip Mask: Loving the gummy bear flavor so much! It’s thicker in consistency for sure. I use it AM and PM. 4.) SPF: This is a chemical lightweight sunscreen. And it’s only $9.99. I can definitely see this being good for all skin types especially oily skin. Love how easily it applies on. It does have fragrance though.
