is there such a thing as too much sunscreen? even though it's winter & I don't go out often, it's still important to wear sunscreen! I pulled in my sunscreen collection for this shot & wanted to share some quick thoughts! MY TOP PICKS: ☀️ Isntree - Hyaluronic Acid Watery Sun Gel [FiveStars] [PR] ⌁ easily my favorite! leaves no white cast & is fragrance/alcohol-free. gives a dewy look, which I don't love, but my skin feels very moisturized (includes 8 types of HA & niacinamide)! ☀️ FACE HALO - MISSHA All-Around Safe Block Aqua Sun Gel SPF50+ PA++++ ⌁ my go-to when I wear make-up as it dries down matte! more watery than the first. this isn't fragrance/alcohol-free, & sometimes, I do feel like this leaves my skin a little dry. however, makes for a great base when I want to wear foundation. THE OTHERS: ☀️ BLACK GIRL SUNSCREEN - Black Girl Sunscreen SPF 30 [PR] ⌁ edit: this is a chemical sunscreen so it leaves no whitecast. haven't tried this on my face but the scent reminds me a lot of a sunscreen I used as a kid! ☀️ elta md SKINCARE - UV Elements Broad-Spectrum SPF 44 ⌁ unfortunately, I can't bring myself to use this one. the white cast is too much & leaves my skin feeling sticky. ☀️ MAELOVE - Sun Protector SPF30 [PR] ⌁ 100% mineral sunscreen with no whitecast. works well on foundation free days but a big no-no under foundation (causes it to clump & cling to it in a very unflattering way) but otherwise a great sunscreen! ☀️ PURITO - Centella Green Level Safe Sun ⌁ it's too bad how this story turned out. fell out of love with this one before everything happened but mostly because I realized that I don't love the scent of lavender in my skincare 😭 ☀️ TreeActiv - Safflower Oleosomes Daily Natural Moisturizing Sunscreen [PR] ⌁ haven't been using this one either as I also find it leaves a tacky feeling on my skin. UNOPENED: ☀️ Bellflower - Watermelon Fresh Sunscreen [PR] ☀️ KEEP COOL - Soothe Bamboo Sun Essence SPF50+ I'll admit that there's a lot about sunscreens (& their ingredients) that I don't understand, but hopefully, I'll have a chance to do some research & write up a thorough post about it in the future! might change my thoughts! what is your go-to sunscreen at the moment? ☀️

The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution was definitely an “Instagram made me buy it” product. When I first joined the skincare community on IG, the product seemed to pop up on my feed everyday! I was so scared to try it since the high concentration of actives made me very nervous about it irritating my skin. Eventually, I decided I had to give it a try. Before using this, please patch test! I admit I’m not the most consistent person with doing this, but I’m trying to be better about it! I had no reactions so I proceeded forward with it. I’ve used this a total of three times now (only once a week ... and I skipped a week in the last month as I was trying out another AHA product). I’ve increased the amount of time I keep it on for (reaching the maximum 10 minutes now). My face often tingles / stings a bit but it’s usually short-lived and bearable. I make sure to overly hydrate on nights when I use this. My skin feels great after using this! I highly recommend this if you’re someone who enjoys using actives, though might not recommend it to those who are just starting out with chemical exfoliants!

I have a number of keloids on my skin and a while back read that rosehip oil was good for scarring. I have recently incorporated rosehip oil (MAJESTIC PURE - 100% Pure & Natural Rosehip Oil ) into my skin care routine, adding a few drops to my moisturizer. Sometimes I put it on my face on its own and then moisturize after it dries. Rosehip oil is known to provide the following benefits: Moisturizes Treats wrinkles Brightens skin Evens out skin tone Firms skin Fades scars Exfoliates skin With that said, I bought this 4 fl. oz. bottle for less than $15 on Amazon but there are other products that seem to be the exact same but sell for a lot more (usually they’re more marketed as a skincare product). For example, trilogy - Certified Organic Rosehip Oil/ The Ordinary - 100% Organic Cold Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil — Anyone know why there’s such a difference in pricing for these oils? For now, I’ll continue using the one I have since, well, I have quite a lot to get through 🤣

LANEIGE - LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask Laneige was one of the first brands that got me into Korean beauty because it was easier to find at the time. Since I always seem to be battling chapped lips, I was so excited to find this product. I’ll start off by saying that my lips definitely feel very soft the morning after I use this. However, the moisture isn’t lasting, and unless I use it night after night, I’m still left with chapped lips. In addition, the mask is very sticky and thick on the lips so I didn’t love how it felt sleeping with it. I also realized that if I put Vaseline on my lips overnight, it had very similar effects. These days, my lips haven’t required it at all, and I’m not sure if it’s a result of drinking more water or just more humidity in the air in general. It’s a fun product to use but not 100% necessary.

PURITO - Centella Green Level Safe Sun A friend of mine bought this for me for my birthday. I’ve only used a handful of face sunscreens over the years, my favorite being Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 ( I also used the SHISEIDO - Ultimate Sun Protector Lotion SPF 50+ Sunscreen for Face/Body one when I was much younger but I absolutely hated the white cast that it left on my skin. ) Anyway, back to the Purito sunscreen. It’s a chemical sunscreen which apparently means that it absorbs the UV rays and then emits it as heat. I didn’t even know there were different sunscreens, so I admittedly haven’t done much research into this. However, this sunscreen does have centella in it which is beneficial for the skin. There is lavender oil in the product which leads to a bit of a strong scent. I don’t mind it too much but there is an alternative PURITO - Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50+if that might be irritating. The one thing I don’t love is that it still feels a bit sticky to me which is why I prefer the Supergoop sunscreen. However, I’ve at least been doing a good job of using sun protection even if I’m not out and about often.

Did you know Target sells K beauty brands?
Did you know that Target sells K Beauty brands? Sweetchef has definitely been at the top of my list with their serums. I’m in love with their really cool skin recipes. Their skin recipes are basically the K-Beauty current trend. AKA Double Serum. Basically, you evaluate what your skin's craving that day (do you need to counteract dryness, dullness, irritation?) and then mix different treatments together to target your specific skin needs. Skin looking dull and uneven? Add a drop of the Sweet Chef Beet + Vitamin A plus a drop of the Sweet Chef Ginger + Vitamin C to achieve poreless, glass skin status! Key Ingredients between the 2 serums: GINGER: Revive dull skin with healing ginger. This radiance-booster is loaded with 40 different kinds of antioxidant properties to even out your skin tone for clear, healthy, youthful skin. VITAMIN C: This brightening shot contains ascorbic acid one of the most powerful forms of vitamin C. Fight premature aging, fade hyperpigmentation and boost your glow. BEET: Have you had your beet today? This gorgeous veggie harnesses a shot of multivitamins that boosts your moisture levels and leaves skin feeling softer and visibly smoother. VITAMIN A: Rich in antioxidants that help to minimize signs of aging for a youthful glow. So if you mix the ginger + beet serum, you get the perfect recipe for = GLASS SKIN. These are my top two fav’s from their line. How to: After cleansing, apply one drop of each serum shot on face with a gentle tapping motion until absorbed. Have you tried their products yet?!

Battle of the *untinted* SPFs
If any of you have read my skincare journey post (shameless plug!) you know that my relationship with SPF is fairly new. Since understanding the importance of SPF, I’ve been on the lookout for sunscreens that don’t irritate my sensitive skin. As much as I would love to try all the popular sunscreens out there, my wallet can’t allow it; so I combed through reviews here and on YouTube for products to try and ended up with eltaMD UV clear broad-spectrum SPF 46 and Centalla Green Level Unscented Sun SPF 50+PA++++ For context, I have fair, sensitive, acne-prone skin that gets oily on the T-zone (nose especially!). I also have a lot of redness. Like…..my skin gets red after I wash my face, after putting on moisturizer, just literally any time I touch it. I used the three-finger rule when applying both (this is about two full pumps for the eltaMD spf) and applied a few minutes after washing my face with water in the morning. No makeup! Overall, these are both great! 5/5 stars from me. So this isn’t so much a ‘battle’ as it was a peaceful meeting between two parties that ended with pastries and tea. That being said, there are some instances when I would use one over the other. PURITO - Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50+ I bought this after Hyram raved about it on his YT channel. Like the name suggests it does have a slight green tint to it, but nothing noticeable once applied to the skin. This one is doesn’t go on white and is super moisturizing and feels nice on the skin, but I noticed my face started to get pretty oily after about ~5 hours of use. I prefer to use it on days when my skin is feeling a little extra dry (usually the morning after curology or an exfoliating mask). elta md SKINCARE - UV Clear Broad Spectrum SPF 46 This claims to calm and protect acne-prone skin and contains 5% niacinamide. This goes on white but I find that it blends into my skin really nicely. Thanks to the niacinamide it really reduces my redness and the appearance of my crater pores, but can be a bit drying (also probs because of the niacinamide). Holds up pretty well throughout the day, I don’t notice my skin getting overly oily. I tend to use this one if I didn’t use any drying products the night before and when I’m breaking out. Really does wonders for my self-esteem, lol. What are your favorite sunscreens? Also a special thank you to everyone who has cheered me on since joining Cherie! I just found out I was on the Rising Star board and that’s one of the most exciting things to ever happen to me 😂😂 I’ve really enjoyed writing about the products I’ve tried and reading about the products I’m curious about!
