Graydon Skincare Pt 3: A surprise hit and a miss
The Product: Berry Rich Face + Eye Cream Plus the free samples that came with my order From the brand: “A probiotic face cream. This velvety-rich, blue-hued probiotic face cream helps maintain and protect your microbiome (aka your skin barrier) while improving hydration, enhancing your skin’s radiance and luminosity.” They say this cream is intended for dry and mature skin. My skin is dry-combo but acne prone so I was a little wary of this product. It came in the set however, and i figured I could use it on dry patches or even on my body if worse came to worst. BOY WAS I SURPRISED. I started off testing it on some dry itchy skin around my nose. When that went well, i took the plunge and put it on my jawline to wear under a mask. At this point, I was JUST starting to realize that the cure to my maskne might actually be to stop attacking it with acids and use MORE moisture and HEAVIER creams, especially under the mask. It seemed so counterintuitive at the time but I was willing to try... and it freaking worked! This is absolutely my favorite occlusive ever. I no longer dread wearing a mask because it means i can slather this over my face first 😍. I also tested it out as a skin protectant while skiing, and it preformed A+ as a wind barrier. It has the most delicious scent that reminds me of berry buttercream icing or something. It smells edible thats for sure! most surprising maskne cure for me, absolutely recommend for the dry acne-prone, and shocked to say I will have to repurchase soon 😱 GRAYDON - Berry Rich Cream Ingredient Highlights: * Arthrospira Platensis (Blue Majik) Extract: blue-green algae rich in phycocyanin, amino acids, vitamins & minerals. Helps increase firmness and smooth fine lines * Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter: heals and moisturizes skin exposed to the elements * Vaccinium Corymbosum (Blueberry) Seed Oil: rich in vitamin C to brighten skin, minimize dark spots, & promote circulation to lighten dark circles * Lactobacillus Ferment Lysate (Vegan Probiotics): improve and strengthen skin barrier, maintain balance of good bacteria which send signals to your immune system to stop inflammation, keeping acne and rosacea at bay Samples: GRAYDON - Aloe Milk Cleanser This was a very nice gentle cleanser, but it didn’t feel any different than other, much cheaper, creamy cleansers. GRAYDON - Super Sensitive Skin Stuff Also a very nice gentle ceramide cream, but just not worth the price when so many drugstore creams contain ceramides (eg all Cerave products) GRAYDON - Green Cream This one I was really excited about and wanted to love. It contains TWO botanical retinol alternatives: moth bean extract (which I love so much in the Fullmoon Serum) and bakuchiol. Idk what it was, but I just didn’t like the smell... it smelled... bitter? to me, that’s the best way I can describe it. I also noticed some product pilling, but mostly the smell turned me off.
Graydon Skincare Part 2: Face mist!
The Product: Face Food Mineral Mist “It gives your skin an instant glow-up by locking in moisture and creating a weightless protective barrier against environmental pollution.” This is another one of the products that donates $1 to Plastic Oceans with every purchase to clean up shorelines. It also comes in a 240mL refill size without the plastic pump! As with Graydon’s other products, this mist is clean, vegan, cruelty free, hypoallergenic, and safe for sensitive skin! I originally purchased the three-piece holiday set because I wanted to buy the Fullmoon Serum, but I also wanted to try the Face Food Mineral Mist, and it was just more cost effective to get the set! The brand notes that this mist can be used as a: toner, essence, after serum/moisturizer to help boost the absorption of actives, as a makeup finishing spray, or as a skin refresher! I don’t wear makeup, so I can’t speak to that use, but I have used it for almost every other purpose. My favorite use is applying it between serums or between a serum and my moisturizer. My skin likes to dry out quickly and sometimes it is hard to get products to absorb properly. When I first started layering products I had issues with pilling all the time. Adding in this misting step has helped with absorption tremendously! Additionally I love the gentle vanilla scent, and the anti pollution benefits. I live in a big city AND wear a mask all the time, my face can use all the protection it can get! This is quite pricey and I am wondering if anyone has suggestions for cheaper dupes? Because I don’t know of any dupes at the moment, I’m giving it full stars despite the price! GRAYDON - Face Food Mineral Mist Ingredient Highlights: White Tea Leaf Extract: high in catechins, the antioxidants in tea Magnesium: soothing to skin & combats skin allergies Copper: used in collagen & elastin production, and inhibits free radicals Silver: helps kill bacteria, reduces redness & blotchy skin, neutralizes harmful sodium-fluoride in water, & accelerates wound healing (including acne) Zinc: decreases inflammation, natural protection against UVA & UVB rays, & regulates oil production Malachite: semiprecious healing gemstone that detoxes skin, is an antioxidant and antipollution, & contains copper to increase collagen production Vanilla: Besides smelling delicious, is anti-inflammatory & also helps with wound healing/infections
Debunking skincare myth: oils for oily skin
For so long, I’ve heard that if you have oily skin you must completely stay away from using oils at all times🙅🏽♀️ but just like we’re rediscovering that not all dietary fats are bad for us, we’re also learning that oils in skincare may actually be beneficial. It’s important to remember that our skin is meant to produce sebum to protect us from pathogens, pollution, and other environmental factors. But what happens when we’re producing more oils than we’d prefer? Possible reasons for oily skin genetic/dosha/constitution: whether you prefer to understand your body from the biomedical or traditional eastern medicine perspective, many of us carry certain predispositions to certain conditions. Ayurveda, a traditional Indian science, looks at the body in terms of balance and imbalance and when the body is in imbalance, person x may exhibit oily skin, while person y exhibits dry skin. hormonal fluctuations: puberty, stress, inflammatory diets overcleansing: using harsh cleansers (I.e. alcohol) or washing your face too often may strip necessary oils, tricking the body into thinking it needs to produce even more oil, thus overcompensating dehydration: I learned this while working in skincare. Hydration is key in structural support of the skin, like collagen. When our skin is lacking hydration, our skin produces more oils as a protective mechanism from the environment (pollution, pathogens.) Over the last few years, as I’ve come out of my oily, acne-prone pubescent skin, I’ve allowed myself the chance to discover the benefits of face oils. Many of them serve the purpose of nourishing and protecting the skin. How to use face oils 1. Dampen the skin with a hydrating toner or water mist for better absorption of the oil 2. If you’re just introducing face oils, start of with light-medium oils that regulate sebum production, such as now - Solutions, Certified Organic, Jojoba Oil 3. BEWARE!! Coconut oil is comedogenic (pore-clogging) for most... Although, some people, specifically of African/Caribbean/Indian descent, have been able to use it just fine. 4. And yes oil cleansing should be fine for oily skin too, as oil draws out oil plugs. Just make sure to use one that emulsifies, like the Corpa Flora - Beauté Divine Sensitive Skin Cleansing Oil which doesn’t even require double cleansing, but it’s completely up to you 🤗
A combo I wouldn’t go without for dry skin
For mornings that I want to keep my skincare steps to a minimum, I stick with this hydrating, protective, repairing combo of Face food mineral mist & Repair booster oil. GRAYDON - Face Food Mineral Mist is not just any kind of toner, as with minerals such as Zinc, Copper, Magnesium it serves to protect the face from elements & pollutants. Bonus points for the gentle vanilla extract, which smells heavenly and is also good for the skin! PUUR Ingrid - Repair Booster is a nice light oil, containing collagen-promoting Squalane + a green tea antioxidant, repairs the skin cells. It technically falls under the “anti-aging” category; however, if you’re prone to super dry skin or even recovering from dermatitis, this comes in handy. This not only leaves my skin baby smooth, but also has a scent that reminds me of baby oil, which I personally like. I love pairing these two together, as spraying the toner dampens the skin, which then allows the oil to penetrate the skin better. If you want to keep your routine simple and you have dry/aging/sensitive skin or just desire an upkeep for normal, healthier skin... this is the one!

❄️AM - WINTER ROUTINE❄️
Hey friends, With the first day of Winter (Dec 21st) quickly approaching, I wanted to talk about my morning skincare routine and what I am using right now. We get a lot of snow, and the air can be really dry where I am from so hydration, redness and sun care are my main Winter skincare focuses. The routine is really centred around maximum hydration and creating a protective barrier for the cold dry winds, coupled with having an appropriate amount of UV protection. Although the sun doesn’t feel as hot as in the summer, it’s reflection off the snow is still damaging to the skin. With redness and sun damage being one of my constants skin concerns I always make sure to have added protection on that front. Also, something I think is worth noting - When I wake up in the morning, the first thing I do is apply sunscreen. I don’t rinse my face or anything, just put on sunscreen straight away. I have a dog that needs to go out early in the morning and want to make sure I am protected, then I usually do a workout with my partner shortly after and then after that I do my AM routine. Tbh, I cleanse my face in the shower (I use CLARISMA - Cool Ocean Breeze Daily Cleanser). I know everyone says not too but I don’t actually take particularly hot showers plus I think it’s pretty easy to turn the temp down.. So I think it is sort of a weird blanket statement to say that it’s bad for your skin.. like sink tap water can get pretty flippin’ hot too. Then when I get out of the shower, skin still damp, I spray EARTH HARBOR - TIDAL ROSE Crystal Hydration Tonerall over my face followed by EARTH HARBOR - Celestine Hydra-Plumping Peptide Serumall while skin is damp. After that is dry I use a Vitamin C serum to help hyperpigmentation / redness and for added sun protection! I usually use Mad Hippie - Vitamin C Serumor ONE LOVE ORGANICS - Botanical C Facial Serumfollowed by BIOSSANCE - Squalane + Marine Algae Eye Cream, not everyone needs to use an eye cream but I have really bad sun damage under my eyes from when I was a kid and I find this product really helps me. Then moisturize with BIOSSANCE - Squalane + Omega Repair Creamand LAST but certainly not least 2 fingers of THANK YOU FARMER - Sun Project Water Sun Cream! And that’s it! It seems a little extreme, but doing 3 of the steps in and just out of the shower makes it actually a pretty quick routine ☺️ Are you using any of these products ?! What’s a must have in your winter routine ?

ORIGINS-Dr. Andrew Weil For Mega-Mushroom Relief & Resilience Soothing Treatment Lotion Limited Edition
This is the TLC glycolic serum and the virgin marula oil from drunk elephant. So far, I haven’t had any issues with these items. I’ve only used them a few times. Each application I actually mix to the two products together and apply after my moisturizer. They work well for my skin type.
The cold weather isn't doing my skin any favors and my skin is only getting drier. I rely on multiple layers of hydration followed by a thick occlusive at the end to seal all that hydration in. I've specially been loving the Bi-phase products. These have two layers one for oil and other for water based ingredients. You shake it to mix the two together, this results in a watery serum with oil capsules in it. Two products that I have been reaching out to frequently are: hyggee Balance All in One Essence: This all in one formula can be used to replace your toner + essence + step. The top layer is an oil blend of Macadamia Seed Oil, Sunflower Seed oil, Jojoba seed oil, Squalane, Apple seed oil while the bottom layer is Birch SAP juice. It also contains ferment extracts Lactobacillus Ferment, Lactococcus Ferment Lysate and Bifida Ferment Lysate, Ceramide 3 and Cholesterol. It adds hydration to your skin while the oil forms a protective layer and prevents moisture loss lingskincare Dual Moisture Emulsion: This emulsion uses humectants like Glycerin, Sodium PCA and 3 different molecular weights of Sodium Hyaluronate and Squalane oil to form a nourishing layer on your skin I use these after hydrating layers and serums right before I use a facial oil and moisturizer.
beauty_by_ane -Radiance Serum Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid Day and Night Vitamin C boosts the skin's collagen production. Antioxidant properties of vitamin C help fight free radicals and damage caused by UV radiation. Hyaluronic Acid, HA is a humectant, which means it grabs moisture and holds it so skin can absorb it, it can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water helping to retain the skin's moisture barrier and keeping you looking plump and hydrated. This is a gorgeous formulation that absorbs quickly and beautifully. My skin instantly has a boost of plumpness and gives me a flawless feel. - Glow in a Bottle All Natural Facial Oil A powerful powerhouse blend of eleven 100% natural anti-ageing plant oils. Abundant in vitamins, antioxidants and essential fatty acids to maintain and restore your skin's natural healthy glow. This oil is super lightweight and non greasy. It absorbs fast and doesn't leave a heavy slick behind like most oils do. This is my current night oil and I'm enjoying waking up every morning with a natural healthy glow.
naturalpacific floral calendula toner - I love this! I use it as a pre-toner toner (I'm so extra I know) before my heavier, more essence-like toner. It has great, clean ingredients and a watery hydrating texture. huxley brightly ever after essence - I really like this milky essence. It's very moisturizing! huxley glow awakening cream - this cream is quite thick and rich . bioclarity hydrate skin smoothie - it's LOVELY. Perfect for combo-to-oily skin. It feels like a lightweight oil-free moisturizer but it has nourishing chlorophyll, argan oil and jojoba oil, ceramides (!!!), Vitamin C, licorice root extract, you name it. Feels like nothing on the skin but manages to moisturize well because the lightweight oils soak right in.
I try a lot of skincare products and I really like it when a brand stands out with a unique ingredient or brand story. That's why I was intrigued by jkosmmune and their focus on high quality beta-glucan in all their products. Beta-glucan is derived from a variety of grains and vegetables - in this case, jkosmmune derived theirs from mushrooms. It has historically been a rather expensive ingredient so I think it's awesome that JKosmunne has found a way to put higher concentrations of it in their products. It's an antioxidant, a moisturizer, speeds healing and supports the immune system. Research suggests it stimulates collagen production and smooths fine lines. And although it has a large molecular structure, it penetrates the skin between cells in the inter-cellular lipid matrix (I looked that up lol). I'm personally in love with the toner and serum so far. I've only been using them a week and a half but my skin feels bouncier and thicker in a good way, like more resilient and elastic. This, even though I've been exfoliating quite a bit lately. The toner and serum both feel super light and non-sticky and yet moisturize impressively well. I have to say that I've seen more results than with most other products I try. I'm a fan!
