My Eczema Solutions
valchemic
Restocking on empties of my recent favourites that Iāve been using since February.
At first I was only using them on my face, but as I had a developing eczema rash since January, I was ready to try anything.
Since the Face Food mist (hydrating, anti-pollution toner) is packed with anti-inflammatory, collagen-enhancing minerals (silver, copper, zinc, magnesium) & the Putty (pUH-tee š) pomade contains soothing colloidal oatmeal and restorative ingredients (honey, turmeric, zinc, hemp oil), I realized the results would be quite obvious. After all, these two products from a clinically-proven superfood Canadian skincare line have been beneficial for dry and inflammatory faces. Besides your skincare is encouraged to be applied onto your neck too... ⨠which I never previously considered much.
So look at the results after about 3 weeks of use, starting near the end of March (my neck looked like it did in February, but a bit worse throughout most of March, so I just didnāt focus on taking āprogressā pics because I was hopeless with the eczema.) Within a few days of mixing the two products in my palm first and then applying on my neck for better absorption, I noticed that, unlike other eczema balms, I only needed to apply the mixture on twice a day, morning and night, thatās how moisturizing it is at a CELLULAR level!
I have fallen in love with this stuff, it also smells great (FF: vanilla, P: cream oats,) so I decided to get the big sized bottles after my empties, and the cool thing is I get to reuse my Face Food mist bottle (bonus sustainability point). Although, the airless pump may be hard to recycle conventionally, you can always submit your beauty product empties to Terracycle!ā»ļø
And as for eczema, I just want to say that its pathological root cause is very complex for each individual. Iām still figuring mine out, but Iām pretty sure itās nutrition & stress related. So I look up to skincare as a maintenance practice, that keeps my skin relatively healthy, while Iām figuring out the other pieces of the puzzle. š
Stay tuned for how I clear up the scars + hyperpigmentation, this isnāt the first time Iāve dealt with this!

Graydon Skincare Pt 3: A surprise hit and a miss
The Product: Berry Rich Face + Eye Cream
Plus the free samples that came with my order
From the brand:
āA probiotic face cream. This velvety-rich, blue-hued probiotic face cream helps maintain and protect your microbiome (aka your skin barrier) while improving hydration, enhancing your skinās radiance and luminosity.ā
They say this cream is intended for dry and mature skin. My skin is dry-combo but acne prone so I was a little wary of this product. It came in the set however, and i figured I could use it on dry patches or even on my body if worse came to worst.
BOY WAS I SURPRISED. I started off testing it on some dry itchy skin around my nose. When that went well, i took the plunge and put it on my jawline to wear under a mask. At this point, I was JUST starting to realize that the cure to my maskne might actually be to stop attacking it with acids and use MORE moisture and HEAVIER creams, especially under the mask. It seemed so counterintuitive at the time but I was willing to try... and it freaking worked!
This is absolutely my favorite occlusive ever. I no longer dread wearing a mask because it means i can slather this over my face first š. I also tested it out as a skin protectant while skiing, and it preformed A+ as a wind barrier. It has the most delicious scent that reminds me of berry buttercream icing or something. It smells edible thats for sure! most surprising maskne cure for me, absolutely recommend for the dry acne-prone, and shocked to say I will have to repurchase soon š±

Samples:
GRAYDON - Aloe Milk Cleanser
This was a very nice gentle cleanser, but it didnāt feel any different than other, much cheaper, creamy cleansers.
GRAYDON - Super Sensitive Skin Stuff
Also a very nice gentle ceramide cream, but just not worth the price when so many drugstore creams contain ceramides (eg all Cerave products)
GRAYDON - Green Cream
This one I was really excited about and wanted to love. It contains TWO botanical retinol alternatives: moth bean extract (which I love so much in the Fullmoon Serum) and bakuchiol. Idk what it was, but I just didnāt like the smell... it smelled... bitter? to me, thatās the best way I can describe it. I also noticed some product pilling, but mostly the smell turned me off.

Graydon Skincare Part 2: Face mist!
The Product: Face Food Mineral Mist
āIt gives your skin an instant glow-up by locking in moisture and creating a weightless protective barrier against environmental pollution.ā
This is another one of the products that donates $1 to Plastic Oceans with every purchase to clean up shorelines. It also comes in a 240mL refill size without the plastic pump! As with Graydonās other products, this mist is clean, vegan, cruelty free, hypoallergenic, and safe for sensitive skin!
I originally purchased the three-piece holiday set because I wanted to buy the Fullmoon Serum, but I also wanted to try the Face Food Mineral Mist, and it was just more cost effective to get the set!
The brand notes that this mist can be used as a: toner, essence, after serum/moisturizer to help boost the absorption of actives, as a makeup finishing spray, or as a skin refresher!
I donāt wear makeup, so I canāt speak to that use, but I have used it for almost every other purpose. My favorite use is applying it between serums or between a serum and my moisturizer. My skin likes to dry out quickly and sometimes it is hard to get products to absorb properly. When I first started layering products I had issues with pilling all the time. Adding in this misting step has helped with absorption tremendously! Additionally I love the gentle vanilla scent, and the anti pollution benefits. I live in a big city AND wear a mask all the time, my face can use all the protection it can get!
This is quite pricey and I am wondering if anyone has suggestions for cheaper dupes? Because I donāt know of any dupes at the moment, Iām giving it full stars despite the price!

Hemp Oil: great for body AND face šæ
Hemp oil has been so good to my combination, eczema-prone skin š
Hemp oil is a carrier oil that normally constitutes the majority of the product concentration. A part of Cannabis sativa, it is therapeutic to the skin. Containing nutrients like omega rich fatty acids and proteins, its topical use is found to strengthen the skin and more resistant to infection - sounds like a win/win to maintain eczema! Itās nourishing for the face AND smooths out the skin on the rest of your body.
I found out about this ingredient when I started frequenting marijuana shops about 4 years ago. I noticed that there was a whole moisturizer line with the name āHempā in it. As tempted as I was to try this, I stayed off trying any of it because when I read the ingredients it contained fragrance š¤¬
Fast forward to December when I started working in another clean beauty shop where Graydon plant powered skincare is sold and as I learned more about the products and ingredients, I couldnāt help myself but to try... and months later, using hemp oil in my products from face to whole body, no regrets!
Face
GRAYDON - The Putty
Yāall know I love this. It soothes eczema and any irritation quite well. Very nourishing and protective for the dry winter. Leaves a smooth face.
Body & hair tbh
GRAYDON - Intimacy Oil
Ugh I love this too. & no itās not what you think! 𤪠At $50CAD/ 100mL, I tried not to buy this for the longest of time, but honestly every time I sampled it I fell deeper and deeper in love. Even before dampening the skin, this oil absorbs quite quickly and does not leave a sticky feeling on the skin which is a great incentive to use this as a form of moisturizing dry skin more often. Ash be gone! Itās so nourishing that I even use it on my hair on wash day as it adds a nice sheen. I also really admire its serene scent.

My Skincare Awards š Moisturizer Edition
Finding a good moisturizer for eczema and milia prone sensitive skin is key! Over the years, my skin type has ranged from oily to dry to combination.
Hereās my selection from favourite to least favourite:
1. GRAYDON - The Putty
This is a moisturizer that has really come through for me, specifically during the eczema days šš½
Scent: oatmealish Price: $46 CAD/50mL
I gave this product a try after receiving for free at work, I found it a little thick for the face at first so I mostly used it on my neck, where I had eczema. With ingredients like zinc, colloidal oatmeal, hemp seed oil, manuka honey, turmeric, itās meant to be soothing for irritated skin... and it proved to be so, Iām glad it fell into my hands š I really admired what it did for my neck that I started using it on my face too *over damp skin* so it would absorb better, and it kept my face moisturizer and protected during the cold winter. Iāve repurchased this in a FULL SIZE quantity and recommended it to friends āØ
2. sahajan - Nourish Face Cream
This is great for everyday use, under makeup too.
Scent: mature lotion Price: $60 CAD/50mL
I also got this for free at work and was excited to try it as I really admire the premise behind this Ayurvedic brand. Though after a few months, the creamās texture goes from silky smooth to a bit hardened with some crunchier bits, once it melts in your palms it makes for a nice application that mattifies the skin. Great before applying makeup or just having fresh, semi-glowing skin. I apply it on over damp skin as well. Although it contains coconut oil, I find that it doesnāt break me out. Iāve definitely recommended this to my friends and will probably be repurchasing this once the winter comes around.
3. wildcraft - Bergamot Rose Face Cream
This was one of the first moisturizer I remember investing in once I discovered Hyaluronic acid and needed something for the eczema on my face.
Scent: ylang ylang Price: $26 CAD/60mL
This is a little more on the greasy side, but at the time I found it quite nourishing for my dry, flakey skin. However, after using it almost daily for a few months is when I started noticing milia starting to form on my face, so I questioned whether this moisturizer was too rich for my skin. Iāve been using it less frequently since just wanting to use it up but also not wanting to chance it anymore, so I might finish it off as a body butter š„“ I purchased this 3 times, but wonāt be repurchasing it again since finding the 2 aforementioned moisturizers that I prefer more! Wonāt be recommending this to friends anymore unless they want an affordable option.
Whatās your favourite moisturizer?!

This here is my everyday, must have, never go without moisturizer. The Murad Essential C day moisturizer not only contains vitamin C but also itās SPF 30.
It works great under makeup or alone.

Murad-Essential-C Day Moisture Broad Spectrum SPF 30 PA+++
The moisturizer that gives you GLOW!
What is it?
VERSO - Nourishing Cream is A nourishing cream that provides intense moisture and long lasting hydration. Packed with Niacinamide to aid in protecting the skin barrier, along with oat lipid, Vit E and skin identical fatty acids.
How I use it:
I apply this as a last step in my routine on my dry skin after I applied my serums.
My experience:
Yāall. I ā¤ļø ā¤ļø this moisturizer! It is not thick at all in spite that it is recommended for night time use. I like the subtle earthy scent that is not overpowering at all. My skin absorbs this cream well, never pills and doesnāt feel greasy at all. The best part is the āØglow⨠I have the morning after because of this moisturizer!
The only downside though is that it costs $110 dollars. But I am really over the moon with the results that I got, so I am going to purchase the full version of this. Itās totally worth it!

Feeling accomplished with another empty āļø Even though this one was pretty meh:
The Neutrogena Rapid Tone Repair Moisturizer ($18) was one of the first products I tried to even out my sunspots. This was before the days I stumbled on to the āskinternetā and researched things like concentrations. While this moisturizer has retinol, vitamin C, and hyaluronic acid, the percentage of the active ingredients is not disclosed. Iām willing to bet the concentration is low because I didnāt see a difference.
Because I was underwhelmed by this, I actually switched to using it as a hand cream because I liked the scent. My hands get less skincare routine love so I can usually see greater differences there (thatās how I knew the peterthomasroth Peptide line worked so well - I could even see the change in my hands!) But again, no perceptible difference with Rapid Tone Repair.
So sayonara, Neutrogena Moisturizer. Thanks for the memories.

Summer=No Face CreamāBrilliant Face Creams to Save Oily, Summer Skinš
Lots of girls stop using facial cream in summer when the weather gets hot but this is actually not good for our skin care. Facial creams seal in skin moisture and protect our skin from skin-damaging environmental factors. The best facial creams are moisturizing without being greasy.
I have mature, combination-dry, sensitive, acne-prone skin which flares easily. Below are three facial creams that I love using in summer.
Anti-aging: LancƓme Absolue Precious Cells Advanced Regenerating and Repairing Care
It has a thick yellow paste texture but spreads easily. It has a light rose scent and contains a high concentration of Pro-Xylane which improves skin firmness. I have dry skin, so I also use the richer version in spring and summer. When I apply a thick layer of it, using it as a sleeping mask, I'll wake up with delicate skin the next day.
Moisturizing: Sisley Black Rose Skin Infusion Cream
It has a light pink, gel-like texture with a very rich rose scent. It contains black Baccara rose oil extract, geranium oil extract, and rose essential oil and I like how it feels on my face. It focuses on brightening and moisturizing, and doesn't cause my makeup to cake, so I normally use it during the daytime in spring and summer.
Restoration: LA MER - The Moisturizing Cool Gel Cream
I don't really recommend the La Mer classic version for acne-prone skin as it causes breakouts easily when not emulsified properly. This is the 'soft' version which doesn't need to be emulsified and can be directly applied on the skin. It offers great restorative care and whenever my skin starts flushing due to an allergic reaction, the flare can be soothed after I apply a thick layer of this cream before bed. It's an S.O.S emergency cream which I always make sure I have at home. Its unique algae extract also smells very comforting.

h2oplus Rapids Probiotic Sorbet Moisturizer w Champagne & Yuzu Extracts
I can admit that I bought this moisturizer bc Iām a sucker for a pretty box and any product that claims it will deliver a dewy complexion.
I tried it this morning and first impressions: It delivers super soft skin, lightweight hydration, and subtle dew without the grease. The product is sorbet-to-liquid, melts right into the skin, and smells really nice and fresh and flowery. Thereās definitely fragrance in here and it lasts for a whileāaka I applied hours ago and can still smell itāso if thatās a no-go for you, look away. My skin definitely feels content w this moisturizer though. Excited to keep testing her and see how she does under makeup!

Cream that helps with flakes and dry patches
The essential firming cream is a product that I think a lot of people can benefit from! Itās a pretty straightforward, but a great cream; it hydrates, helps with flakes and dry patches, as well as elasticity, all thanks to JISUN Firming Complexā¢, a potent blend of antioxidant-rich goji berries, black beans, and arrowroot. I love how smooth and soft this makes my skin look after I apply it. Iāve also noticed that this works great as a makeup primer! When I apply blush/highlighter/foundation on top of this cream, everything blends easily and seamlessly, doesnāt move and stays on very well. Overall, I really like this cream for its hydrating and calming properties.
