Valentina’s Introduction

Hey lovelies, I’m so excited to be here, a social media app for skincare - whaaaat a dream come true! 💫 My personal skincare journey began when I started getting eczema on my neck, face, arms, legs in university, which I graduated with a BScience. I knew about the risks of using topical steroids, so I’ve been adamant on finding holistic ways to treat my case of eczema by first understanding the root cause. It’s a complex journey, as I’ve come to understand that there are different causes for eczema, such as stress, nutrition deficiencies, allergies, genetics, etc. So I began looking into skincare to find ways to manage my skin health while figuring out my entire health 🤪 Growing up with sensitive skin, I stayed away from most beauty products to avoid getting adverse reactions from certain synthetic ingredients... until I started looking into the benefits of clean, plant-based ingredients. And I make sure to look out for greenwashing! 🤓 I’ve since found that when I use the right ingredients, my skin actually thanks me. I now also look at skincare as part of self care rituals that our ancestors took on for many generations. In the past couple years, my passion has been focused on working out a skincare formula to soothe eczema-related rashes and infections. In the meanwhile, I’ve started working at a conscious, ethical beauty studio, Portia-Ella that carries ~40 Canadian brands, mostly led by women. I love working with our empowering team, which fuels my growth/self-development. We get a lot of training on ingredients and interact with various skin types, so I’m always happy to help! 🥰 In these photos, from Valentine’s Day, I’m holding some of my favourite skincare products of all-time, which you can find at Portia-Ella (online too.) I’ll be reviewing them in future posts 🤩 What’s your current skincare obsession? 🙌🏽 GRAYDON - The Putty

My Top 3 Products for “Healing” Eczema
The truth is healing eczema isn’t as simple as applying on creams and ointments, alone. It’s a whole process, from stress management to better nutrient intake to looking into underlying conditions, like thyroid issues. However, that doesn’t mean that we can’t find the right skincare to manage eczema. Over the years, I’ve tried various products and topical remedies, and though it can be tricky to sift through all the right formulas... I have finally found the right ones for me! Hydrate with Corpa Flora - Antidote HB5 Hydration which contains hydration-boosting propanediol, hyaluronic acid, pro vitamin B5 and promoting collagen, making the skin more firm. This really helped me with dry patches on my face, I don’t get those anymore! 💦 Moisturize & Soothe with GRAYDON - The Putty which contains restorative ingredients, such as zinc, hemp oil, turmeric, manuka honey. It’s so soothing, I noticed changes within a few days and only needed to apply it twice a day vs some other eczema solutions that require constant reapplication due to excessive dryness. 🤗 Sanitize & Repair with purO3 - Ozonated Olive Oil which is a One ingredient powerhouse. Honestly this is my holy grail y’all! The only reason it’s a 4 ⭐️ is due to the strong scent, which my partner doesn’t enjoy sleeping next to when I use it 😅 but ozonated oil is honestly the one for stopping skin infections, like Staphylococcus aureus in its tracks, and on top of that, repairing the skin so the S. aureus doesn’t repenetrate the skin. I’ve been using this one for years! 🙏🏽 What are some of your favourite eczema solutions? 💞

Product empty: vegan hyaluronic acid serum 🌱💦
The reason I’m so obsessed with skincare is due to this product right here! This is my 4th empty bottle! 🔑 ingredients: • hyaluronic acid - great humectant • provitamin B5 - retains deep moisture within the skin • propanediol - extends delivery time of active ingredients I came across the marvellous Hydration serum at a clean beauty boutique when I was suffering from eczema on my face and most of my body. I tried a sample and quickly came back for more. I’ve been using this product for a year and half now, and haven’t had severe facial eczema or dry patches since. Definitely worth the $67 CAD. I’ve tried saving money by getting other hyaluronic acid serums, but they could never compare to this, in my opinion. This serum has a plump consistency that soaks right into my skin, alleviating dryness and the resulting wrinkles. A botanical science formula made by a Canadian female scientist who’s had 20 years of experience in molecular biology and oncology research. This product is also mindful to those with cancer 💝 Corpa Flora - Antidote HB5 Hydration

A combo I wouldn’t go without for dry skin
For mornings that I want to keep my skincare steps to a minimum, I stick with this hydrating, protective, repairing combo of Face food mineral mist & Repair booster oil. GRAYDON - Face Food Mineral Mist is not just any kind of toner, as with minerals such as Zinc, Copper, Magnesium it serves to protect the face from elements & pollutants. Bonus points for the gentle vanilla extract, which smells heavenly and is also good for the skin! PUUR Ingrid - Repair Booster is a nice light oil, containing collagen-promoting Squalane + a green tea antioxidant, repairs the skin cells. It technically falls under the “anti-aging” category; however, if you’re prone to super dry skin or even recovering from dermatitis, this comes in handy. This not only leaves my skin baby smooth, but also has a scent that reminds me of baby oil, which I personally like. I love pairing these two together, as spraying the toner dampens the skin, which then allows the oil to penetrate the skin better. If you want to keep your routine simple and you have dry/aging/sensitive skin or just desire an upkeep for normal, healthier skin... this is the one!

My Eczema Solutions
Restocking on empties of my recent favourites that I’ve been using since February. At first I was only using them on my face, but as I had a developing eczema rash since January, I was ready to try anything. Since the Face Food mist (hydrating, anti-pollution toner) is packed with anti-inflammatory, collagen-enhancing minerals (silver, copper, zinc, magnesium) & the Putty (pUH-tee 😜) pomade contains soothing colloidal oatmeal and restorative ingredients (honey, turmeric, zinc, hemp oil), I realized the results would be quite obvious. After all, these two products from a clinically-proven superfood Canadian skincare line have been beneficial for dry and inflammatory faces. Besides your skincare is encouraged to be applied onto your neck too... ✨ which I never previously considered much. So look at the results after about 3 weeks of use, starting near the end of March (my neck looked like it did in February, but a bit worse throughout most of March, so I just didn’t focus on taking “progress” pics because I was hopeless with the eczema.) Within a few days of mixing the two products in my palm first and then applying on my neck for better absorption, I noticed that, unlike other eczema balms, I only needed to apply the mixture on twice a day, morning and night, that’s how moisturizing it is at a CELLULAR level! I have fallen in love with this stuff, it also smells great (FF: vanilla, P: cream oats,) so I decided to get the big sized bottles after my empties, and the cool thing is I get to reuse my Face Food mist bottle (bonus sustainability point). Although, the airless pump may be hard to recycle conventionally, you can always submit your beauty product empties to Terracycle!♻️ And as for eczema, I just want to say that its pathological root cause is very complex for each individual. I’m still figuring mine out, but I’m pretty sure it’s nutrition & stress related. So I look up to skincare as a maintenance practice, that keeps my skin relatively healthy, while I’m figuring out the other pieces of the puzzle. 💝 Stay tuned for how I clear up the scars + hyperpigmentation, this isn’t the first time I’ve dealt with this! 🍌 So I don’t have particularly sensitive skin but I definitely am prone to SENSITIZING my skin which I blame on my late stage chemical exfoliant and retinol addiction. I’ve had my share of contact dermatitis and these are some products I love when my skin is really reacting. 🍌 Glow Recipe Banana Soufflé Moisture Cream - a lightweight soothing moisturizer. The texture of this is really interesting...it kind of jiggles in the jar and reminds me of banana pudding before it sets. This moisturizer contains magnesium and banana which are both great for calming irritation. It has a very light banana scent and is a great daily moisturizer if you have sensitive skin or are using heavy actives. 🍌 REN Evercalm Overnight Recovery Balm - a heavy balm for really dry or sensitive skin. If you’re oily you’ll hate this stuff. It has the texture of literal Vaseline. But if your skin is really dry or irritated this will calm it down. I use this when my skin is in a state of emergency and it always helps. This balm contains a plethora of soothing and moisturizing botanical oils...it does also contain essential oils and fragrance if that’s something you’re sensitive to. 🍌 Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream - this is a GREAT moisturizer for stressed out skin. This one is a little heavier than the Glow Recipe but not too rich. The star ingredient in this is Guaiazulene which is derived from chamomile and gives the cream it’s beautiful blue color. This also contains Centella Asciatica a great soothing ingredient for calming redness.

The perfect whipped DREAM to top off your skincare routine... Drunk Elephant has some seriously good products...but their Lala Retro Whipped Cream has to be my favorite. It’s such a plush, luxurious texture but isn’t too heavy—it’s actually quite light and “whipped.” I have sensitive skin and it seems like anything has the potential to set off skin irritation for me. This cream heals all...I use this as the last step in my night time routine and I rarely wake up with redness anymore after 4ish weeks of consistent use. Even though it is considered a cream, it soaks into the skin in about 15 minutes. I use 1/2 of a pump twice daily and that is more than enough for me. Lala targets skin that needs serious love. It contains a 6-African-Oil blend with ceramides that lock in moisture and soothes irritated skin. I thought my skin wasn’t dry enough to warrant a cream like this, but it turns out this is perfect for sensitive skin since it’s really just trying to soothe skin. I’ve enjoyed so much about this product...except the price tag. $60! I understand why it’s so expensive—the ingredients are ethically sourced and the product WORKS! Even though it is so expensive, this is a definitely holy grail for me...it’s worth every penny. If you are in the market for a seriously soothing moisturizer that you can rely on in any situation, I highly recommend this. Go to Sephora and get a sample! Then you’ll see what I mean. I have to give Lala 5 out of 5 stars. It makes me look forward to using my moisturizer which is something I never thought I would say! DRUNK ELEPHANT - Lala Retro Whipped Moisturizer with Ceramides

Cica for sensitive skin 🌱🌿

This Cicapair moisturizer is marketed as a moisturizer for sensitive skin that calms irritated skin and reduces redness. It targets dryness, irritation, and sensitivity. The texture is honestly one of the best of any moisturizer I’ve ever tried. It’s creamy and thick but still feels smooth going on your skin. I decided to try this to see if it helped my redness, so I bought their Cica Kit and have been trying it for about 2 months now. I love this product so much because it truly does provide my skin with the right amount of hydration and I can feel it cooling my skin when I apply it. I would recommend the product to anyone with sensitive skin that’s a little more on the dry side! I tried the mini in their Cica kit that was $45 but the full size is $48. I think it’s a reasonable price in comparison to other moisturizers out there and how great it is. I definitely have a full size on the way to me in the mail 😅 Dr. Jart+ - Cicapair Tiger Grass Cream

FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repa
FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Cream Formulated with Colloidal Oatmeal, Shea Butter and allantoin, this thick creamy moisturizer provides instant hydration and doesn’t feel greasy. . I have not used it on my face, rather love using this on my body for all the hydration. I feel it would be a bit heavy for my face. . It is rich, moisturizing and is great to calm redness, dryness, irritation and for moisture barrier. . It is gentle enough even for sensitive skin and soothing for eczema prone skin. . I always have to keep a backup of this as my husband loves this cream more than me perhaps. . The product is vegan, cruelty-free, gluten-free.

🐯THE PRODUCT🐯 The Dr. Jart+ - Cicapair Tiger Grass Calming Gel Cream is marketed as an ultra-light hydrating gel cream for oily and combination skin. Dr. Jart is one of the most popular K-Beauty brands in the U.S. This is one of their newer releases and an addition to the revamped Cicapair line! It is targeted at skincare concerns including dryness and redness. It has centella asiatic (tiger grass) to soothe sensitivity as well. It provides lightweight hydration and moisture to irritated or sensitive skin. The texture of this product is a very thin, spreadable gel. It is a pale green color as shown on this cute bag! This bag is from the Cica Rescue Kit. Cica is another name for tiger grass! 🍃MY HONEST OPINION🍃 I wanted to try this because I had first tried the Color Correcting Treatment from this brand, and I thought it was way too thick on my skin, but I loved the idea of tiger grass in skincare. So I tried out this gel cream out and LOVED IT! I’ve been using this for about 6 months. I love this product and always reach for it when my skin feels super sensitive. It allows my skin to breathe while helping to soothe it. This is great for AM and PM use for my skin. I prefer this thin texture to the original Cicapair Tiger Grass Cream. I would definitely recommend this to others who struggle with irritated or sensitive skin. It helps calm redness on the skin, and it smells super refreshing but light. I’m so happy that I have minis to travel with!! It retails for $48 for 50 mL of product which I think is worth the price, but I also think that it is expensive for a more niche moisturizer that I don’t use daily. I just use this when my skin is in need of extra soothing rather than my everyday moisturizer. As far as time/effort, it applies like any other cream so it is quick and easy. It layers really nice over serums and under an oil if you want! I give this a 4/5 ⭐️ rating. I love everything about this gel cream, besides the price, and I wish that Dr. Jart was a cruelty-free skincare brand.
