battle of the brow gels 🤺 // bushy brow look
I’ve been OBSESSEDDDD with brow gels ever since COVID hit since I refuse to do a full face of makeup only to sit on a few zoom meetings a day with my camera off in half of them. for a minimal makeup look, I do brow gels and lip gloss and call it a day! I’ve used a ton of brow gels in the past and none of them hold up my super straight and thin brows and make them look fuller and bushy (soap brow look). most of them deposit color onto my skin instead of actually geling down my brows, so here are a few of the brow products that DIDN’T work for me, and the two that did: COLOURPOP - Brow Boss Gel

My Take on Old Hollywood Glamour
When I think about old Hollywood glamour, I immediately go to big sweeping dramatic fake lashes, blush, and red lipstick. This Betty Boop themed look was super fun to create and actually pretty easy as well. In a previous post for Cherie that’s on my profile, I explained my process for flawless foundation and contouring which essentially is what I started out with as my base. I naturally have a tiny freckle above my lip that usually is covered up with my foundation, but with this look, I used eyeliner to accentuate it and make it bigger. I then moved on to lashes, which in this case I got from a drugstore for super cheap. I like using Lilly LASHES - Lilly LASHES Matte Black Lash Applicator to adhere my lashes because the black color blends well with eyeliner. Simply add glue to your faux lashes, wait to let it dry, and place accordingly onto your lash line with either your fingers or lash tweezers. Hold the eyelash in place so as to let it dry onto your eyes and then you’re good to go. Practice definitely makes perfect, and I’m still in the practice stage so I like to keep makeup remover and a q-tip on standby to fix any eyelash-glue slip ups. I used ILIA - Limitless Lash Mascara on my bottom eyelashes to complete my eye look and really make everything come together. I don’t actually own blush, simply because I don’t wear it ever and usually instead opt for highlight instead. So just like they did back in the day, I used ANASTASIA Beverly Hills - ANASTASIA Lip Palette to blend into my cheeks with a makeup brush. I did sprinkle a bit of my usual highlight on top too. I went really dark for my brows using ANASTASIA Beverly Hills - Dipbrow Pomade and ANASTASIA Beverly Hills - ANASTASIA Beverly Hills Tinted Brow Gel . I haven’t professionally gotten my eyebrows done since the start of quarantine, so I instead plucked them myself and used a lot of product to fill in my inconsistencies and over-plucking. I lined my lips with a MAC red pencil and used ANASTASIA Beverly Hills - ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS Lip Stain and a clear gloss from a drugstore on top. With this look, I definitely lived out my Betty Boop dreams. Hopefully with these tips, you can too!
no brows? no worries!😁
I am here to help! I also have no eyebrows and since I started wearing makeup, I’ve used nearly every product under the sun trying to achieve that full brow look I have always wanted so badly. I will break it down by skill level and what has worked (+ not worked) so hopefully you can find something that works for you and will give you beautiful, full-looking brows! if anyone wants me to make a tutorial/video showing how-to comment below! EASIEST TO USE - PENCILS ANASTASIA Beverly Hills - Brow Definer this product was great. the tapered end allows for thin hair-like strokes towards the front and a thicker, more-defined look at the arch. ANASTASIA Beverly Hills - Brow Wiz Mechanical Brow Pencil the formula itself was also great, but there is not a lot of product AT ALL and you will find yourself buying another one within the month, waste of $$$ in my opinion. benefit - Goof Proof Brow Pencil SUPER SIMILAR to Brow Definer but amazing!!! ADVANCED - POWDERS REVLON - Colorstay Brow Kit I used this product many years ago when I was just starting out. honestly don’t remember if the wax even did anything and the powder was not very pigmented. it pales in comparison to what I use now. brown eyeshadow | ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ quickly after the Revlon brow kit, I wanted to dive into a look that was a little more impactful. I used any neutral or cool-toned brown eyeshadow I could get my hands on. this led to lots of trial and error (and at one point using black eyeshadow which you should NEVER DO even if you have black hair!). my most frequent shades have been Crucifix from KVD VEGAN BEAUTY - Saint & Sinner Eyeshadow Palette and Volcano from MORPHE - 9B Bronzed Babe Eyeshadow Palette . these shades are quite dark on their own, but technique is everything and a natural look is achievable if you practice being light-handed. powder is the most common way I have filled my eyebrows in for the past 7 years and it’s never steered me wrong! MASCARAS/GELS ANASTASIA Beverly Hills - ANASTASIA Beverly Hills Tinted Brow Gel when you don’t have eyebrows, gels can’t be trusted to do all the work. however, they can help to seal in product so it’s less likely to budge all day. that’s exactly what this product does. NYX - Tinted Brow Mascara great affordable dupe and does the same thing. I do find it smudges with pressure though!!! NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART - POMADES ANASTASIA Beverly Hills - Dipbrow Pomade this product is pigmented like an eyeliner, and it will absolutely go on like one if you aren’t careful. this product was at the height of the Insta Brow trend, but we all know now that Nike checks for eyebrows aren’t for everyone. if you want a very intense eyebrow then give it a shot but I will never repurchase.

I decided to create a look today using my COLOURPOP - The Child Eyeshadow Palette ⭐️ To create my eye look, I used baby face on my whole lid, just like a tatooine as the transition shade, float your crib & droid protocol in my crease as shadows, and precious cargo for my brow bone and on my inner corners. ⭐️ Face/base products: Glossier. - Priming Moisturizer ARMANI beauty - Luminous Silk Foundation in 3.75 NARS - Radiant Creamy Concealer in affogato COVERGIRL - CG Smoothers Concealer in 705 for undereye concealer, 715 as contour laura mercier - Translucent Loose Setting Powder ANASTASIA Beverly Hills - ANASTASIA Beverly Hills Contour Kit top left shade to lighten up blushHOURGLASS - Ambient Lighting Edit used both blushes ⭐️ Eyes: COLOURPOP - The Child Eyeshadow Palette L'ORÉAL - Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara Glossier. - Boy Brow in clear (not pictured, sorry!) New Year's day glam 🎉✨
Happy New Year everyone!! I hope that 2021 is so much better than 2020 (even though I've had some good things happen) as far as the coronavirus and political tension in the US. I finally went back to work this which which means I get to wear real clothes and put on some makeup! Below are the products I used today: Base: Too Faced - Primed & Peachy Primer I do notice that my skin has been more matte than usual, it definitely controls oil. FENTY BEAUTY - Pro Filt'r Instant Retouch Concealer one of my top 3 concealers FENTY BEAUTY - Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Powder Foundation laura mercier - Translucent Loose Setting Powder for my under eyes Cheeks: Kosas - The Sun Show Bronzer Kosas - Color & Light: Pressed Powder Blush & Highlighter Duo I used Papaya 1972.. both the blush and highlighter Eyes: COLOURPOP - Brow Boss Gel URBAN DECAY - Crease-Free Eyeshadow Primer Potion I have very oily eyelids so I like to wear eye primer even if I don’t wear eyeshadow. appleBiotic - Super Lash Mascara BEST mascara hands down.. Every time I go to Mexico or someone I know goes, I make sure to get like two or three tubes. You can also purchase this for like $5 on Amazon.. if you have straight eyelashes that are hard to curl, I RECOMMEND this. It’s also not waterproof so it’s easy to take off. My lashes are typically longer, but I just removed my eyelash extensions so they are a bit short.
Brow gel: COLOURPOP versus GLOSSIER
Tinted brow gels are my GO-TO for an easy, effortless look and it’s a staple in my daily makeup routine. I honestly feel naked without it on a day I opt to wear makeup. I have been using Glossier’s Boy Brow gel in Brown since.....forever. This product was the first product I’ve tried from Glossier and it made me a loyal customer ever since. However, I’ve been seeing some chatter in the cherie community about the Colourpop dupe for boy brow and I saw that it is less than HALF the price. So, I decided to try! I went to a few Ultas and the brown tint was sold out, so I knew it had to be good. When I finally hunted it down, I immediately tried when I got home and OH. MY. GOD. I LOVEEEE it. It’s cheaper, more tinted, and applies like a dream. The wand/brush is softer and does a great job of applying the product and making it look natural. There’s literally no need to be paying $16 for a product when a $7 does it better. Packaging is the same, quality is better, and it’s easier to find (when Ulta isn’t sold out of it 🤣) I’m fully convinced that this is better than Boy Brow. Glossier’s product may have been my first love but I’ve now moved on to a better and cheaper product 💅🏼 thank u, next!
My new go to look I’m currently obsessed with
I’m normally pretty basic when it comes to my go to makeup. I decided to add a few new products to take my look to the next level. My fave products are most definitely the skin products. Summery, glowing skin, cat eye + a poppy lip!
A favourite look that never gets old! A cute cat-eye wing and red lipstick is a must! Any of ILIA’s Tinted Lip Conditioners are incredible! They’re so comfy on the lips and feel like a balm, but have such pretty pigment! Here’s the general breakdown of what I’m wearing! ILIA - ILIA Tinted Lip Conditioner THE BEST wearable red! Wish ILIA still made this shade. You can find it online at random retailers though if you search it! (I.e. the one linked here!) SEN - Skin Silk Liquid Concealer & Foundation in Shade 10. (I may possibly be a shade deeper, this was a smidge too light for me but I made it work!) Though it’s fairly new to me, I really like this foundation! It blends beautifully on the skin. Medium to full coverage but can be easily sheered out with a good glowy skincare base! Overall a big fan! FITGLOW BEAUTY - Vegan Good Lash+ Mascara One of my favourites! Lasts all day, no transfer and makes your lashes look falsies long! ILIA - NightLite Bronzer Powder Beautiful pigment, blends like butter! ILIA - DayLite Highlighter Powder in Decades. A gorgeous glowy highlighting powder! I don’t always love a powder highlight, but this is gorgeous. SEN - Petite Mineral Blush in Velveteen. Beautiful pigment and blends well! PACIfICA - Highest Def Hemp Fiber Brow Set May be one of my favourite brow products at this moment in time! Glossier. - Pro Tip Brush Point Liquid Eyeliner in Black. Glides on like a dream and is so precise! Anyone can rock this look! Just switch up the shades accordingly to your skin shade/tone!
I’m up early this morning, which is unheard of for me 😅 sharing what makeup I used yesterday. The Givenchy Khol Couture Waterproof eyeliner (in Cobalt) is one that I’ve shared before! Ever since I saw Maria Giannetos in blue eyeliner I was on the hunt for the perfect one. I tried a few but none really matched my expectations until this one. It goes on soo smoothly that you could even smudge it to look more like an eyeshadow. No surprise, the blush is by Charlotte Tilbury, in Love Glow! Put a little bit on my nose as well. The mascara is from Ohii Beauty, aka the only glasses friendly mascara I own 🙂 On that note, I need tips for keeping lashes curled! Mine always fall flat after an hour and end up pushing against my glasses. I know I asked on our stories but if you have any tips I would really appreciate them ❤️ Finally, the Ohii Beauty magic hair wand is absolutely a STAPLE. I wear it on my brows every single day, more on my brows than on my actual hair for fly aways. I like it more than boy brow tbh 🤫 -Dax
I loooove brow gels! I have thick, brown eyebrows that are a little insane without my monthly waxing appointment. I would add a picture of the different gels on my brows but they are very unkempt due to the virus! I don’t fill in my brows, I just use these gels to keep them tidy. I like the natural brow look and I was always very bad on filling them in with brow pomade in high school. I just recently got the #ANASTASIA Beverly Hills - Clear Brow Gel[products]#[FiveStars] through my Allure beauty box. I was surprised to see how great it works! It’s a bigger wand (like a mascara wand) unlike the other smaller brow wands. I’ve been using this everyday and it stays on during my 7 hour shifts at fast-paced job! My first purchase was the COLOURPOP - Brow Boss Gel and it’s great dupe for the glossier one. I don’t like it as much because it kinda doesn’t stay on all day. Also dries out pretty quick. I love the Glossier. - Boy Brow but it may because it’s tinted. Whenever I get my eyebrows done and put this on my brows, it looks heavenly! I’ll purchase this again on my next glossier order for sure.
Promise I don’t hate Colourpop! $7 brow MAGIC
I realize all my Colourpop reviews have been overwhelming negative! But this product I am totally in love with! I really like benefit’s brow products but hate paying that much! I found this dupe for Glossier’s Boy Brow on Brandefy and it really gave me the fluffy thick brow look that I love! If you like really natural thick looking brows I highly recommend this product! I have a lot of brow hair but it’s mostly almost clear blonde lol so the tinted one is perfect for me. It also doesn’t flake off like the NYX one does for me. COLOURPOP - Brow Boss Gel
COLOURPOP-Brow Boss Gel
Brow-wow! Truly a star product!
I love my brows thick, defined, and lifted. Yes, lifted- if that makes sense. I love brushing my brow hairs up to give them a Cara Delevigne-esque vibe. I simply adore how babes with bushy brows look. One can say I have pretty thick brows because they’re jet black but if you come close and really look closely, they’re sparse. That’s why I rely on some star products to fake and perfect the bushy brow look. One of my 2 go-to products is Glossier Boy Brow. Tons of people on Instagram are raving about how amazing this product is, and I’m one of them. I love how it keeps my brows up for a full day. I don’t touch up on my eyebrow makeup cause they just tend to stick, and thanks to this cult product, my brows are lifted the whole day. I’ll continue purchasing this ‘cause it’s cheap, and it does the job perfectly. Can’t ask for more! Glossier really is so worth the hype!
boy brow vs w3ll people brow gel
Second pic: natural eyebrow Third pic: boy brow left, W3ll people right I have been a long time fan of glossier’s boy brow eyebrow gel. I think it gives a really natural look, and adds to my standard “less is more” makeup routine. However, I found this vegan drugstore brand of eyebrow gel from W3ll People and wanted to give it a try! It is a touch cheaper than glossier, and more accessible since you can find it at target etc. overall, boy brow is the winner (pictured on the left in the third photo). Glossier. - Boy Brow my only drawback about this gel is that, due to the upward stroke application, I sometimes have to use a spoolie to smooth my eyebrows into the shape I want. But as for as color and fill, I think this is the perfect brow gel for someone who wants a little bit of definition without looking like they have done anything to their brows. W3LL PEOPLE - Expressionist Brow Gel as you can see in the third picture, this gel goes on cakey and leaves a lot of product behind (in the picture I even went over it with a q tip to wipe off the excess, and it is still too much). Also, unlike boy brow, I can feel this gel on my eyebrow - it feels waxy and heavy, and not as natural as the glossier product. This brand is fine if you want to go for the darker, more noticeably filled in look, especially on a budget, but it is definitely waxier and leaves a lot of product behind.
Can’t Live Without It: My Fave Brow Gel!
I have always had very thick eyebrows, until I decided to tweeze them all off at the age of 13 because everyone kept teasing me about them! I wish I had known how much thick brows would come into style just a few years later. For the longest time I tried to grow them back out, and they always just looked awkward and patchy, and I could never get them to lay the right way. They are already super dark, so any imperfections are very easy to spot. I tried filling in my brows for a while but that made them look cartoonish. I had tried cheap brow gels in the past, but they always made my brows feel stiff and flaked everywhere. When I got a Sephora gift card for my birthday last year, I thought I’d try out a higher-end brow gel. I ended up purchasing the Anastasia Beverly Hills clear brow gel and OMG- it transformed my brows. Somehow the perfect amount of gel always ends up on the end of the brush so that I do not have to wipe off any excess, and it doesn’t make my brows stiff!! It lifts them into place and makes them look so much more voluminous. It lasts all day without flaking. I love this as a product I can use on my no-makeup days that isn’t noticeable but still helps me to look more polished. It is a little bit pricey for a clear brow gel at $22, but this is now a product that I know I can’t live without!
