Glowy summer base makeup!
thehappyskinglow
Hi pals! So today, I wanted to share my perfect base makeup tricks! I don’t usually wear a full face of makeup, but when I do, I like it to be long wearing and still really dewy, glowy, and natural. Here’s how I achieve that:
My skin type:
Combo, currently suffering from a lot of hormonal acne and oilier skin. I need products that won’t get caught in fine lines or start to get patchy!
Tone:
Medium deep, usually I wear shades called “golden brown” or “caramel”
Products used:
e.l.f. - Illuminating Face Primer
Makeup routine
Base makeup
Dewy makeup products
Glowy summer makeup look
Summer makeup
CAUDALIE
e.l.f.
Glossier.
Concealer
Face Primer

My Lazy Girl Makeup Routine
This routine is my go-to, everyday, makeup routine that takes less than 10 minutes.
As you can see in my before photo, I have some redness and a couple of small breakouts. Typically what I focus on with my quick makeup routine is to even out my skin tone, add a bit of colour, and make my super blonde lashes & brows visible😆
1. First things first, I cleanse my skin with a micellar water and moisturize. If I have more time to get ready, I’ll go in with serums and treatments, but when I’m in a hurry I stick to basic skincare.
2. I always apply spf, and this SKINCEUTICALS - Physical Fusion Uv Defense SPF 50 is my absolute favourite. It’s tinted and gives such a nice healthy glow to the skin (it’s not shimmery or sparkly at all).
3. Next, I apply my FENTY BEAUTY - Match Stix Matte Skinstick (in the shade Linen) under my eyes, around my nose, and on my chin to help cover up some redness. This formula is honestly not my favourite for concealer, it’s quite dry and sometimes hard to blend but I’m just trying to use it up. I also have the highlight and contour shades and I do not like the highlight at all but don’t mind the contour shade (again, they’re both very dry).
4. Then I go over my entire face with my HALEYS - Re:Cover Pressed Powder Foundation (in shade 2.15) I just love this stuff. I’m a big fan of powder foundations in general because I find them so quick and easy to use. This formula melts right into my skin and I don’t find it to be drying at all on me. It has great coverage and doesn’t appear to be caky or too powdery on my skin.
5. I love a multi-use product for saving time and this cocokind - Chagaglo Bronze Highlighter is just that. I use a little bit of it on my cheeks to warm up my face and also dab it on my eyelids to add a little bronzy shimmer. It’s creamy and blends out well but doesn’t slide all over the place - love this one!
6. Next I added a bit of the ILIA - Color Haze Multi-Use Pigment to my cheeks and lips, I have the shade Before Today and it’s a beautiful petal pink.
7. Now it’s time for brows and I always use my essence - Make Me Brow Eyebrow Gel Mascara (in shade 03) this stuff is SO GOOD and it’s like $3, I always purchase multiples at a time so I never run out. This one is the perfect shade for me and gives my brows great definition, hold, and colour.
8. Next up - lashes. I just started using this HONEST - Extreme Length Mascara + Lash Primer and it’s awesome! It has a primer on one end and the mascara on the other. I’m super impressed with the length it gives my lashes and the formula is very black.
9. My last step is spritzing my face with my CAUDALIE - CAUDALIE Beauty Elixir , this is a step that I never miss. I feel like it really blends everything together and makes it look much more natural.

My Caudalie Favorites
Wanted to show some love for one of my favorite brands during today’s post! When I first got into skincare, Caudalie was always a brand I wanted to try. They focus on clean, sustainable skincare that leaves your skin smooth and glowing!
My two favorite products from them are the CAUDALIE - CAUDALIE Beauty Elixir and the CAUDALIE - Vinoperfect Brightening Moisturizer with Niacinamide ! Both are a little on the pricier side for me but they are lasting forever! When I use them in the morning it gives my skin that lit from within glow! I’ve found that some people love their products and for others, they’re just meh.

My 4-Step Minimal Everyday Makeup
I’m a makeup newb, but I always make sure to cover up my eye bags with concealer when I feel like looking okay😂
As you can see, a little can go a long way!

Stumbled upon another fave
So...I’ve been posting about things I’ve been finding that work wonderfully for me. If you follow me you know my story. If not..I’m short...I just got back into the makeup game after almost 5 years and my skin has changed and so has product. It’s like a new world to me. One thing I will never have enough of is foundations. I was always a die hard matte girl until recently Indiscovered dewy is more youthful and aren’t we all trying to keep that alive 😂. Well...I discovered BB cream and LOVE the finish and was satisfied but realized...it does NOT set well on concealer and for me is a little difficult to blend. Also didn’t quite give me the coverage I felt comfortable with. Don’t get me wrong..I will still use it but foundation is just me. Soo....I found I love elf flawless finish and Covergirl Advanced Radiance is my ride or die(most days) yet lacked the sheen of a BB. Sooo....I did some playing and got the Perfeft formula. Mixing elf illuminating primer with the foundation and it’s perfect. Finish with elf highlighting powder and bam. The look of a BB that isn’t a BB.

a couple of holiday looks
I’m not a huge eye makeup kinda person, I usually lean more towards the natural side (mostly because I’m pretty bad at eye makeup and end up making my eyes look smaller). I tried out a few looks for Christmas Eve dinner and I finally chose the most natural look, the second picture.
Although I would never really wear a dramatic, sparkly eye look out in public, it’s fun to play around with makeup while I’m stuck at home.
I mostly used a palette that my friend got me in China, but here are the other products I used for my look:
Glossier. - Perfecting Skin Tint
Glossier. - Stretch Concealer
BOBBI BROWN - Eyeshadow
Milk MAKEUP - Lip + Cheek
BOBBI BROWN - BOBBI BROWN Bronzing Powder
BOBBI BROWN - Shimmer Brick Highlighter
BOBBI BROWN - Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick

Glossier Review
I have to admit I have been in love with the asthetics of Glossier for a couple years now but the price point always made me hesitant. This year I FINALLY decided to take advantage of their Cyber Sale.
Overall, I wasn't left disappointed! Glossier definitely has the "no makeup makeup" concept down and I was super impressed with how well some of the products helped me achieve this look.
Glossier. - Boy Brow
This is for sure a new staple in my makeup bag! The formula is light and performs beautifully to give your brows a natural shape. I previously used the e.l.f. - Wow Brow Gel as a dupe recommendation and I personally don't think it's a comparable dupe at all. While the results are similar, Boy Brow is more waxy and moveable, while Wow Brow leaves my eyebrows crunchy and weighted down.
Glossier. - Generation G Sheer Matte Lipstick
I really wanted to love this lipstick. I adore the concept and it genuinely gives a blotted lipstick look. I love the color (I purchased like) because it gives me a "my lips but better" color. However, I can't get over the waxy plastic smell they claim to be lychee rose. It lingers on my lips and it's a no for me because of the fragrance.
Glossier. - Wowder Weightless Finishing Powder
This really is WOWder! It's light as it claims, eliminates some dewy shine from your face, and works wonders to even skin tone and blurr large pores. It's a new favorite in my makeup collection and has replaced light foundation when I want a simple no makeup look.
Glossier. - Balm Dotcom
Hands down the best lipbalm I have ever used, no question about it! I purchased the original and mint, which I use several times a day now. I plan on purchasing more in the near future so they can live all over my house and in my purse forever and ever.
Glossier. - Futuredew Oil Serum Hybrid
I was nervous about this product based on the reviews I read. It really does give a healthy glow to the skin that looks like it comes from within. I use it as a natural looking highlighter too. But it doesn't completely dry down, thus one star removed.
Glossier. - Stretch Concealer
This isn't a medium or full coverage concealer, but in my opinion it still performs beautifully. After applying it under my eyes I noticed the area looked brighter and I looked more awake. It doesn't cover redness but it does even skin tone some and looks like my skin, but better. I don't have any creasing either after wearing it all day.
Glossier. - Lash Slick Mascara
I love everything about this mascara EXCEPT it sometimes flakes. It really gives my lashes a natural look and again, "my lashes but better." I am on the hunt for a dupe that doesn't flake.
Glossier. - Cloud Paint Seamless Cheek Color
These are everything they are hyped up to be and more! I purchased Beam and Dusk. Both look beautiful, are highly pigmented, and give my cheeks a healthy natural glow.

Acne friendly primer
This primerizer (primer + moisturizer) is amazing! It works great before makeup, mixed with foundation or even on its own!
I use it even on my worst acne days and it never irritates my skin. It hydrates without feeling greasy and the texture is super smooth and light and sinks into the skin in such a lovely way.
I definitely recommend it! smashbox - Photo Finish Primerizer

Perfect Match for Concealer Touch Ups
This is my go-to concealer when my skin is having a good day but still needs a little touching up. It’s formula is very lightweight and not really meant for full-coverage moments like acne and redness, but instead, it’s perfect for brightening and softening your face so it’s flawless. What I love about this concealer is how illuminating it is and it’s soft sponge-like applicator, which helps the formula blend seamlessly into the skin and create a perfect-looking complexion. If you’ve seen any of CT’s tutorial videos with it, you know that it really imparts the skin with a heavenly glow and radiance. My perfect shade is fair/pale which is the skin tone range I live in lol. Charlotte Tilbury - Magic Away Liquid Concealer

Nourishing primer
Product claims: A three-in-one, nutrient m-rich serum, moisturizer, and primer that can be worn alone or under makeup for long-lasting wear.
Product has highlighted ingredients: Tamanu oil: helps moisturize and soothe skin, jojobas oil: supports, moisturizes, and smooths the look of skin’s texture, purple tea extract: helps improve the appearance of skin’s tone.
My experience: I was so scared of trying this product because of the essential oils in it! Lilah B is my absolute favorite brand and I really wanted this product to work! Happy to report that it lived up to my expectations. You literally need only 1 pump for each application. It’s very nourishing and gives you the perfect dewy effect even though it’s oily. For an oil like consistency it sinks in the skin pretty quickly. I was scared that it might make my makeup look too greasy and my foundation would move around but wow it stayed put for a couple of hours and I didn’t end up a greasy mess even with my oily skin. I did take off one star because it’s very very pricey. It’s definitely a luxurious product but I wish their brand had kept it under $55
Do I recommend this to others: Yes I absolutely do! If you’re looking for something which will give you a “glow within” effect then you will like this product
Price: $68 for 1 oz. and $25 for 0.33 oz
Long-Wear Test: Nudestix Nudies Tinted Blur
NUDESTIX - Nudies Tinted Blur Stick
PRODUCT
A light-coverage blurring product that can be used as a “foundation” or primer. It contains soft-focus minerals that help to blur imperfections and create a “soft matte glow.” Mine is in the shade Light 3, which I find matches my skin tone pretty well.
OPINION
I tested this product over the course of 7 hours and closely paid attention to the wear and how the product interacted with my skin over this time period. I was working from home, so I was under optimal conditions for this product to perform well. I like the coverage this product provides, I am not a fan of full coverage, and this just slightly blurs out any imperfections or redness. In that respect, it does exactly what it claims. It is just a tint on the skin – so if you need more coverage, this is not the product for you. It does give a slightly blurring effect, but I let my primer do most of that work for me (I used Dr. Brandt Pores No More under this). After watching it closely, I see that this starts to crease in oilier areas (nose, chin, forehead) at around the 3 hour mark and by the 5 hour mark, it looks kind of cakey in those same areas. After completing this wear test, I feel like this would be best suited for a quick event like a meeting, lunch, or dinner; or used as light coverage for the perimeter of my face, not the oilier areas. I don’t know how well this would work for someone with dry skin because the formulation is pretty dry itself. Overall, I think this is a good product if you like light coverage, but it is pretty pricey at $30 for .022 oz, so I would not necessarily recommend it, though I do enjoy using it. It does not really work well with other products and has a tendency to pill when swiped over some primers. I give this a 4/5 stars (because it worked well for me, but can be fussy).

Dewy or sweaty?
This is a primer that many makeup artists rave about, but is it actually as good as they say?
Claims: hydrating primer
My thoughts: this primer define you hydrated the skin, which is a plus- although sometimes it can feel a bit sticky. Many people use this who have dry skin to make their skin look more dewy. I have combination skin and at times this primer made me look super oily and sweaty. I would only recommend this if you have drier skin, if you do then it’s great- other wise not so much.
tarte-Double Duty Beauty Base Tape Hydrating Primer
Favorite foundation for no makeup look
Product claims: A featherweight, light-coverage foundation and hydrating skin elixir in 16 shades that can be worn across 48 skin tones
Coverage: light
Finish: natural
Skin type: Normal, Dry, combination and oily
My experience: I absolutely love this product because I don’t like wearing heavy makeup every day. The formula is very thin but still good enough to provide some coverage. I did notice however that I cannot wear it back to back for more than two days because it does clog your pores a little bit! But other than that it goes on super smooth and so easy to blend that you don’t even need a sponge, you can just apply it with your fingers and get done with it. I’m amazed it worked out so great for my oily skin given that it’s an oily formula so I’m sure it will work amazingly for dry and normal skin.
Do I recommend this to others? Yes absolutely! I see this working well for all skin types. It’s a bit pricey and I do wish it was under $40 for what it is
Price: $42 for 1 oz
