Rocking Retinol For My Huge Pores And Uneven Skin
Ingredient: Retinol Product: PETER THOMAS ROTH - Retinol Fusion PM Night Serum I discovered this product while looking for retinol reviews on YouTube. I came across two YouTubers who were both raving about Peter Thomas Roth Retinol night serum. Retinol promises to help the renewal of your skin’s upper surface to reveal a younger, healthier skin layer. It also helps in shrinking huge pores, tighten it, and even out skin tone. Sounds too good, right? I checked this serum online and I was lucky to see that it’s 50% off so I didn’t think twice, and immediately purchased it. This product is light, clear, almost like water. It feels like light oil on my face when I apply it. On nights when I use it, I start off with my usual double cleanse routine, then I wait for an hour for my face to be completely dry before I apply this on. It’s integral that your face is 100% dry as retinol apparently reacts with water so make sure that when you use retinol products, you wait long enough for your face to be totally dry. I started using this about 2 weeks ago, and I use it very sparingly as I also use Biologique Recherche Lotion P50T. They’re both acid-based so I try to be super careful so as not to introduce too much acid on my face. I’ve seen a massive difference in my skin’s texture but I notice that when I use this, I get a small pimple the next morning. Maybe it’s the reaction of my skin to this product and the Lotion P50T. I haven’t noticed any difference in the size of my pores but my skin feels amazingly soft and smooth. Love this and will continue using it.

Products From The Same Skincare Line Are Meant To Be Used Together
Having lived in France for a year, I have learned to really take care of my skin. French women are all about the skin and wearing natural makeup looks. They’re not much of a fan of foundation and layers of makeup products to hide the skin. I have adopted this skin philosophy while living there, and since their pharmacies are literally skincare heavens, it wasn’t really hard to find something that will help target my specific skin concerns. If you follow my skincare reviews here on Cherie, you’ll know that I have a dry combination skin type that is, at the same time, sensitive too. I wasn’t very good at wearing SPF in the previous years; this is why I now suffer from hyperpigmentation. I’ve learned my lesson so now I wear it every day even if I don’t go out. It’s pretty clear that skincare labels develop a line with multiple products in it to be used together. So it is just logical that these 2 products from La Roche-Posay’s Pigmentclar line work together. LA ROCHE-POSAY - Pigmentclar Serum Visible Dark Spot Reducer I use this serum during daytime after my usual cleanse, tone, and essence steps. It has a very light consistency, more like a gel type of formula so it’s perfect for humid weather. The first time I used it, I felt a slight tingling sensation on my cheeks, but it didn’t cause any irritation in the form of redness on my face. It’s normal for me to feel this especially during the first time of using a new product as my skin is extremely sensitive so it takes a tiny bit of time to get used to products I introduce in my routine. La Roche-Posay Pigmentclar Daily Moisturizer I top the serum off with this moisturizer in the Pigmentclar line, then finish the routine with a lightweight SPF 50 sunscreen. I noticed that my skin has slightly brightened after about a month of using this product. It has literally turned my face a bit on the paler side. I have natural olive skin undertone, but I do get a bit pale when I don’t get much sun. I can still see a bit of redness on both sides of my nostrils though and a bit on my cheeks. I think these products are good for overall brightening, and not to specifically target redness on certain facial areas.

Trusted Kiehl’s To Treat My Thirsty, Hyperpigmented skin
Kiehl's - Daily Reviving Concentrate If I can only pick 1 brand of skincare to use my entire life, it would be Kiehl’s. I’ve been a fan for years now since I’ve laid my hands on that blue bottle of midnight recovery serum. I’ve tried a number of their products and my skin just loves it. This Daily Reviving Concentrate has the same consistency as the Midnight Recovery Serum- it’s light, just a tad thicker than water. I use this in the morning to treat my thirsty skin after I double cleanse my face, and after applying toner and essence. I particularly love that it’s hydrating but it doesn’t leave my face oily. I can instantly feel its moisturizing properties but it’s not too much so as to leave my face greasy. It’s a good makeup base as it leaves a bit of a glow to my skin. Sometimes I like putting a teeny weeny drop on the side of my eye - the area where you normally apply highlighter - to highlight the high points of my face. I do that when I don’t have a foundation on, which is literally every day now because of the lockdown. I swear by this product. Kiehl's - Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution I suffer from hyperpigmentation because I liked suntanning until about 4 years ago. Back then, I didn’t know that the sun rays would give me sun spots even if I wear SPF. Fast forward to today, I have learned my lesson and I try to stay out of the sun as much as I could. I love tanning so I just use self tanning products to fake a glow. Due to my sun frolicking days, I developed a bit of sun spots on my cheeks. I combat these by using products with vitamin C or niacinamide. I particularly love this dark spot solution from Kiehl’s as it has a mixture of different acids that help in brightening the pigmentation, plus it’s gentle. I have sensitive skin so it’s really easy for me to feel a slight tingling sensation when I use products with acids or vitamin C but this product is so gentle that I didn’t feel anything the first time I applied it. I have seen some improvements on the uneven texture of my face. The pigmentation on my cheeks have since lightened a bit. I also love the smell of this serum. It feels like I’m in a spa whenever I put it on my face. Definitely a must try if you’re looking for something gentle to treat your hyperpigmentation.

Retinol alternative. Does Bakuchiol work?
Bakuchiol - is it really a retinol alternative? 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝘽𝙖𝙠𝙪𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙤𝙡? >>A vegan, all natural plant extract, said to be a 𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘰𝘭 𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦. Bakuchiol comes from the Babchj plant and is a compound isolated from the seeds and leaves. It is then commercially purified to become what we are seeing in skincare, Bakuchiol oil. 𝘿𝙤𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙩 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠? There is not enough studies or research on how it works particularly at this time, BUT with the few that there are, 𝙔𝙀𝙎, 𝙞𝙩 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙨. ✰ improves sign of aging. Has the same collagen boosting properties as Retinol. ✰ its an antioxidant! It fights against free radicals. ✰ fades pigmentation. It inhibits melanin production. ✰ antibacterial + anti-inflammatory. Fights acne! 𝙄𝙨 𝙞𝙩 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙖 𝙜𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙤𝙡 𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚? It’s honestly just as effective according to research. You do have to use it am and pm to achieve the same results just from nightly retinol. ✰ not sun sensitive, wear this night and day! ✰ better suited for sensitive skin types that can’t handle retinol yet. 𝙣𝙞𝙖𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙙𝙚 𝙙𝙤𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙖𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙗𝙖𝙨𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮. You can find a cheaper alternative to Bakuchiol by using Niacinamide with ALMOST the same results. The two ingredients do things differently, but help with similar concerns. 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙤𝙡? USE BOTH! Bakuchiol stabilizes Retinol, helps it work longer, and also helps skin sensitivity to retinol. HERBIVORE - Bakuchiol Serum This Bakuchiol serum really didn’t do much for me. It will not be a repurchase. It does not compare to a lower dose/% of retinol at all for me. While it has a nice tacky yet luxurious texture, it pretty much just made my skin feel hydrated and that’s about it. I will be trying the rest of this serum with my retinol as I have read new things about them working better together, so we will see!
▫T H E • F A C I A L • B A R when I come across an new and uncoming products powered by black female owned brands I get crazy 😜 excited. Like uncontrollably excited 👸🏽 what makes them so unqiue is how tailored to my concerns and focuses on improving them. Like for starters the adult acne cleansing gel. An all natural exfoliator with 2.0% active salicylic acid that gentle goes across my face leaving soft and hyradted while pinpointing the acne. 👸🏽 the facial oil, on original blend goes on lightweight still addressing acne but also leaving a slight glow in it wake. It too has salicylic acid in a mid dose and smell divine. I use it morning and night in my routine with no problem. 👸🏽 in tandem with the oil I dab the advanced scar serum on any and all scars and blemishes around my hormonal line. Using pumpkin peptides perfect for the 🍂🍂 I directly hit all those unwanted scars to activate new skin cells. It also goes great with coffee oils. 👸🏽 finally with an entire line of acids I have to protect my skin using the amazing black girl sunscreen. With SPF 30, and ultra sheer it on smooths on and I go. Its just enough protection and let me enjoy with a bit of a tan. 👸🏽 WOC I high recommend this brand as it gives you everything you need to live acne free. Brands so dedicated to our skin come few and far between. It a vegan crueltyfree brand that even carries makeup. I'll be raving about this company for a while.
Today’s favourite is The Ordinary‘s Retinol 1% in Squalane. The ingredients are pretty straightforward: Squalane, a few other oils, 1% retinol, tomato fruit extract, a preservative. Retinol is a form of vitamin A and one of the very few actives that has scientifically proven anti aging potential. There are other retinoids, some of which like adapalen or isotretinoin are considered pharmaceuticals. They are generally used as an acne treatment, isotretinoin is probably also the most effective anti aging topical there is (prescription only though, and for good reasons!) Retinol also helps with acne, thickens your skin and can even help with scars. Too good to be true? As with everything, there has to be a downside: Your skin has to get used to it and while it does you will either get very dry skin or your skin will purge and you’ll get extra pimply. It’s very important to start retinol slowly and with a low percentage. As I have used prescription retinoids for acne in the past, I decided to skip the lowest percentage The Ordinary offers (0.2%) and start with 0.5%. The first one and a half months were bad, so many new pimples. After the initial purging my skin got better fast. When I ran out of my 0.5 bottle I decided to try out 1%. It went smoothly and I‘m on my second bottle now. I use it two to three times a week and it works nicely. I rarely get spots and I like to think that my skin looks more even in general. Like all The Ordinary products, this one is really cheap, I personally also like the squalane base as it‘s pretty moisturising. Definitely a good retinol product for beginners. A few words of warning though: if you have very sensitive skin or skin issues like rosacea, retinol might not be for you. If you’re in your 20s you can wait, unless you have issues with acne and/or scarring (like me). And: Sunscreen is even more important while using Retinol!!
