My favorite mask for oil control!
OLE HENRIKSEN - Cold Plunge Pore Mask What am I? A clay mask designed to cool, detoxify, reduce pore size, and control oil through out the day. This mask is best for those targeting concerns such as pore size, dull and uneven texture, and oily skin. The masks star ingredients include snow lotus and alpine willow herb extracts to nourish the skin, a “green fusion complex” which is an active blend of botanicals designed to absorb excess oil and refine pores, and lactic and salicylic acid to buffer away dead skin. This mask is well know for its bright minty blue green color and cool peppermint scent. You apply this clay mask with your fingers, letting it dry down, and then after 15 minutes, remove with a cool washcloth. What do I think about this? I was initially drawn to this mask because of the bright color. When I heard it helps target oil control I had to give it a shot since I tend to have more oily skin. It’s been over a year now that I’ve been using this mask and I still really like it. It’s instantly cooling and slightly tingly and after washing it off my skin feels more firm and my pores feel tighter. I don’t notice major reduction in oil but my skin is noticeably less oily by mid day when I use this. I love to use this before an event to prep my skin before I apply my makeup. And overall it does give my skin a more matte effect. I think anyone else with oily skin would really love this mask! It’s $36 for a 3oz tube but it lasts a long time if you’re only using it once or twice a week, so it’s definitely a more affordable mask option. This is my favorite clay mask out there and you should totally go pick this up if you don’t have it already!

My favorite sheet masks from Dr. Jart!
Dr. Jart+ - Firm Lover Rubber Mask What am I? A two step sheet masking system that facilitates the delivery of ingredients while simultaneously cooling the skin. These sheet masks target skincare concerns such as dryness, dullness, uneven texture, pore size, and blemishes. The first step is to apply the ampoule which comes in the little pod. After spreading that across your face, you then follow up by placing the two piece rubber mask on top. The rubber mask helps to keep active ingredient from evaporating, allows for better penetration of the active ingredients into pores and fine lines. There are four different versions of this sheet mask, but this one in particular is the Firm Lover, which contains a berry complex featuring salicylic acid to help skin appear more firm and red seaweed to help maintain skin’s moisture for more supple looking skin. Other masks in the collection include hydration lover, bright lover, and clear skin lover, all of which I enjoy. What do I think about it? I’ve been using these masks for months now and they’re my favorite to use right before a special event or important day. After using this my skin looks instantly more plump and hydrated. I feel like my skin is already pretty firm so I don’t see any crazy firming but I don’t expect to. Mostly I love that these masks are like pressing the reset button on my skin. They all hydrate, plump, and brighten, and I swear I always wake up with better skin the next day after I use one of these. Because of the special 2 step design and rubber mask, it stays on your face, so you don’t have to spend your whole time wearing it laying down staying still. It stays put the whole time and the fit is near perfect. There’s also a great fit around the mouth so you can still eat or drink while you have this on. The only think I don’t like about these masks are the amount of waste they create since they’re single use masks. They retail for $12 a mask and that is quite a bit to spend on a single use product. Despite that, I still love these masks and rave about them constantly, and I highly recommend them all.

A new product from my favorite k-beauty brand!
GLOW RECIPE - Banana Soufflé Moisture Cream What am I? A soothing lightweight moisturizer designed to calm and hydrate the skin. It claims to work for all skin types and addresses skincare concerns of redness or dry dehydrated skin. Key ingredient include banana to restore skin’s hydration, magnesium to calm inflammation, and central’s asiatica to heal dry irritated skin. Glow Recipe is a vegan and cruelty free k-beauty brand and the packaging is recyclable. The texture of this product is so lovely. It’s nice and light and while its marketed as a lightweight cream it almost has a thinness to it, you can stir the product around in the jar very easily. It’s definitely light and it sinks right into the skin upon application. What do I think about it? I’ve had this cream for about 10 days now and I’ve really been enjoying it so far! I bought it the day it launched because I’m a big fan of Glow Recipe and their watermelon line. It’s recommended that you apply this product as the last step on your routine, however I see the best results using this after my serums and before my moisturizer and night cream in my night routines. It might be ok to use this as the last step in your routine in warmer months but it’s winter here so I definitely need something thicker on top these days. My favorite thing about this product hands down is the fact that it smells just like banana laffy taffy! It smells amazing but you don’t smell it when it’s on your face, which is good for those of you who aren’t super jazzed by added fragrance. I think this has been a nice extra layer of hydration for me the past few days and the scent and texture make the experience really fun. It’s moderately priced at $39 for the 1.69oz jar. I feel like it’s just a tiny bit overpriced, for its level of importance in my routine. I don’t necessarily feel like this should be a new staple in my routine, but I’m definitely having a blast testing it out and I think you would enjoy it too, especially if you have oily or combo skin like me. I recommend you give this a try if you’re thinking of getting it!

I’d rather get coal than these toner pads
COSRX - One Step Original Clear Pad What am I? Pre soaked toner wipes designed to dissolve dead skin and excess oil and banish blemishes. This product is marketed for those whose target concerns are fighting acne, controlling oil production, and dull skin. Each $20 container comes with 70 pre soaked pads containing BHA’s to exfoliate dead skin, and betaine salicylate and willow bark to fight and treat acne. These are meant to be swiped across the skin after cleansing, before you apply any serums or treatments. The pads aren’t dripping in a lot of excess liquid so it doesn’t take long for your skin to dry after using. What do I think about it? I purchase this from Ulta a while back, but I only used these toner wipes twice. Unfortunately my skin had a bad reaction, so these aren’t something I want to use again. In fact they’ve been sitting around for so long at this point that they should probably just get tossed. I’m really bummed out that these didn’t work out for me because I know a lot of people really rave about these and I love the brand. After using these twice in a 5 day span, my skin got increasingly irritated. The existing breakouts I had seemed to get worse and a lot of whiteheads started to pop up. My skin also felt super dry. I also just want to mention that I don’t particularly think the packaging is very attractive looking on my vanity, which is a bummer because I usually love to display my skincare. I do think they’ve gone on to have a plain white cap in newer designs though. Overall, like I said, a lot of people have said they love these, but unfortunately they just didn’t work for me and I don’t like them AT ALL. I think perhaps my skin was too sensitive for this product, so maybe if you have sensitive skin you should pick something else. Sadly, I can’t recommend these.

Is this a good anti-redness serum?
FIRST AID BEAUTY - Anti-Redness Serum What am I? This product is marketed as an anti redness serum that alleviates and soothes stressed skin, calm inflammation, and guard against environmental stressors. This product claims to tackle skincare concerns such as hyperpigmentation, rosacea, free radical damage, and redness. It contains caffeine and ginger extract to cool inflammation and aloe vera to calm irritation. This is a thicker creamier type of serum that would best be used as the last serum of your routine. However after you apply it to the skin it skins in quickly and doesn’t leave any stickyness or residue. What do I think about it? I can’t completely remember where I got this from but I’m pretty sure I got it in a gift set for Christmas last year. I really love the brand and I had high hopes for this product, but honestly I don’t feel like this product was doing much for me. I tried this for 10 days but I didn’t notice it doing anything positive for my skin. I have skin that is very prone to redness and I didn’t feel like this helped with that at all. If anything I noticed that by mid day my skin looked more oily than usual when I was using this in the morning. Lastly I want to mention the price. At $36 for the full size 1.7oz, you’re best off passing on this and picking something else from First Aid Beauty like their toner or ultra repair cream. Would I recommend it? Unfortunately it’s a no for me, dawg.

A surprisingly great toner for dry skin!
KYLIE COSMETICS - Vanilla Milk Toner What am I? A hydrating toner to help replenish skin, and unclog and minimize the appearance of pores. Ingredient callouts include avocado oil, kiwi seed oil, and apple extract which work together to soothe, tone, and restore natural hydration to the skin. It also contains squalane and sodium hyaluronate to hydrate and plump skin. What am I used for? This toner is best for addressing concerns such as dryness, dull skin, and pore size. This is meant to be used after cleansing and before applying any serums or moisturizers. This prepares the skin for it’s upcoming routine. This is a thicker, milky consistency that you wouldn’t normally see in a toner. When you dispense it from the bottle it looks a bit like watery milk. It doesn’t feel thick though, it melts right into the skin. What do I think about it? I purchased this product pretty soon after it launched. I initially approached the brand with some skepticism, just because Kylie is a celebrity and not a dermatologist. After hearing good things from friends, I decided to pick it up and give it a shot, and have been using it for about a month now. I really love this toner and I’m so glad I bought it! I don’t use it specifically just in morning or night routines, but rather whenever my skin is feeling like it needs some extra hydration. It’s thicker milky consistency makes it a perfect starting point for when my skin is feeling dry. I think this is going to be great this coming winter. Directions say to pour onto s cotton pad and swipe across the skin put I just pour it right into my hands and oat it on my face and have had no problems doing it that way. The only think I don’t like about this product is that it’s lightly fragranced. It doesn’t bother me a ton but I just don’t feel like fragrance is necessary in skincare so why add it? At only $22 for an 8oz bottle, I feel like this toner is a fairly reasonable and highly accessible price point. It tones, soothes, and hydrated my skin wonderfully, and I would definitely recommend you try it out yourself!
