Revamping my Skincare routine post-partum
Prior to my pregnancy my biggest skincare concerns were dryness and the occasional pimple. My entire life I’ve struggled with dry skin, redness in my cheeks, and in my childhood KP. During pregnancy I used Drunk Elephant, and loved the results. But then once I gave birth I literally neglected my skin for 6 months. From that moment I committed to be better to myself and decided to try out the Glossier skincare edit. While it did keep me moisturized, I noticed it wasn’t doing much for the new skincare issues I faced since having a baby. I noticed I had developed quite a lot of hyperpigmentation and that the redness had come back. The glossier did a great job of providing moisture, but that was about it. When I started running out of products I decided it was time to start looking into new products that addressed my needs. That’s when I discovered The Ordinary. I loved that they had so many options to target specific needs and the price was amazing!! I decided to start with a few products and I am slowly working on incorporating more. Below are my experiences with the first three I bought that I have been consistently using for a month now. The Ordinary - Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA I really love this moisturizer. It has a lightweight feel, yet my skin doesn’t feel thirsty a few hours later. I really enjoy this as it is summer right now and the lightweight feel makes my skincare feel moisturized yet still able to breathe. And when I have to wear a mask for prolonged periods, like at work, it doesn’t contribute to the maskne I had been experiencing prior to using. I am interested to see how well this works when I move as I am going from Oregon to Arizona and imagine that the lack of humidity may increase my skins need for moisture. But in the humidity of Oregon’s summer this has been a great choice for my dry skin. The Ordinary - Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2% I have tried a few different Vitamin C serums in the past and this one is the best so far. I have found that in the past that vitamin c serums either did nothing for me or left me with a chemical burn like rash. This one does sting, but I only had the rash occur once and it was one day while camping where I didn’t wash it off and apply sunscreen soon enough in the morning. I do have to stress that when they say PM preferred they really mean it. This makes your skin incredibly sensitive to sun so I only use it at night. Other than that I have noticed that it has really brightened my skin and made a big difference in the redness on my cheeks. I really like how quickly it absorbs in skin, making layering not take too long at night. The Ordinary - Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG I have enjoyed using this one my eyes as I definitely notice it tightening the skin around my eyes, but I haven’t seen much improvement of my dark under eyes. Will continue to use to see if I just need to give it more time.

How to Use Retinoids Without Wrecking Your Skin
Retinoids are amazing. Whether you’re using adapalene (Differin) to treat acne, over-the-counter retinols to prevent signs of aging or correct hyperpigmentation, or plan to start tretinoin (Retin-A) for both, retinoids are exciting and have decades of research to back up their efficacy. But they can be a bit tricky- after all, almost anyone who turns to retinoids is warned of flaking, dryness, purging, redness, irritation... side effects galore. Except, it’s honestly pretty easy to avoid most of those. The purging is somewhat inevitable due to how retinoids work, but mixing retinol with an oil or applying an oil in the same routine can help stave off a lot (if not all) of the irritation, redness, flaking, and/or dryness. Oils help to fortify the skin barrier with fatty acids, as well as seal in the moisture from your hydrating serums and/or your moisturizer. I figured this tip out after accidentally forgetting to apply an oil (a usual part of my PM routine) with my tretinoin and immediately experienced flaking around my nose. Here are my favourite retinol+oil combos... The Ordinary - Retinol 1% in Squalane is my favourite over-the-counter retinol, melding two wonderful and simple ingredients: squalane and retinol. They offer three concentrations, beginning at 0.2%, then 0.5%, and finally 1%. I saw no irritation slowly making my way between the various concentrations, the squalane drying down to a lovely satin finish if you use in the AM before sunscreen. THE inkey LIST - Rosehip Oil applied after my Apostrophe Tretinoin has helped immensely- I didn’t notice any flaking/dryness until the night I forgot to apply it after my tret, which is impressive! I also haven’t experienced any redness or increased sensitivity, which I credit partly to this oil (also partly to my soothing serums). It’s already been helping with my acne and hyperpigmentation, as well as some tiny bumpy texture that has been persistently plaguing my forehead since before the beginning of my skincare journey years ago. DRUNK ELEPHANT - Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil applied after DRUNK ELEPHANT - Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil is a dream team combination for aging, dry skin- as well as a wonderful way to correct texture and tone! I can’t recommend this specific combination enough for helping with uneven texture and uneven tone. It lightened some of my dark spots and really helped smooth the orange peel texture on my chin, with the oil keeping a lot of the dryness at bay.

Best black head removing mask!
The product✨ The Ordinary’s AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution contains glycolic acid, lactic acid, and salicylic acid. This is supposed to help with normal, combo, and oily skin, and targets blemishes, fine lines & wrinkles, dullness, and uneven texture. This also contains Tasmanian Pepperberry to calm irritation, and also gives this solution its deep red color. It’s the consistency of a serum, and spreads easily across the skin. ••• My thoughts✨ This has been a holy grail product for me. I find this is the most effective chemical exfoliator that I’ve used (with that said I haven’t used many). I tend to use this once a week and have seen a significant difference in my pores, oiliness, and black heads. I wash my face really well, making sure it’s completely dry before placing a few drops of the mask on my face and rubbing it in. You’re supposed to leave the mask on for 10 minutes, but I tend to do 8 or 9 just because it’s critical not to go over 10 minutes! It does tingle a bit at first, but subsides within a few minutes of putting the mask on. Once I wash it off my skin is so much smoother, and my pores and black heads look reduced. I would recommend this to anyone, but I would use caution if you have sensitive skin, I think It would be best to use this mask for maybe 5 minutes at first and work your way up to 10 minutes. Also one oz, which will last you a long time is only $7.20 which is crazy! ••• The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution

Hey guys! I thought I’d jump on and share with you guys my favourite product to reduce the appearance of pores and blackheads! I have been using this product for over a year an absolutely love love it. This pink clay mask has kaolin which detoxifies and brightens your skin. This mask literally sucks up all my excess oil and sebum! I have combo skin and only get oily in my T-zone area and only apply the mask where I get oil. The end result? It tightens the look of my pores and magically gets rid of my black heads! I only use this once a week or when I start to notice my black heads start appearing especially on my nose area. Lately I have been quite dry everywhere else so I avoid applying the mask in those areas. I have done that before and it made my skin so tight and dry. However on days that my skin gets oilier usually in the summer season I sometimes use this before I apply on makeup for a special occasion and I find that it creates a nice base and makes my makeup look so much more radiant! I’ve also took a photo of the clay doing it’s magic! Apologies for the bad quality but I took this at 10PM at night but you can see how it just sucked up all my sebum in the areas where my pores are visible. Some of the key ingredients that stood out to me are: 👍🏻Vitamin C - brightens the skin and enhance skin radiance 👍🏻Vitamin E - strengthen the skins barrier 👍🏻Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract - anti inflammatory and anti bacterial ingredient 👍🏻Rosa Rugosa Flower Oil - soothes acne and infected skin 👍🏻Citrus Reticulata (Tangerine) Fruit Extract (Citrus Reticulata) - anti fungal properties that helps with problematic skin 👍🏻Allantoin - has moisturising agents that prevents drying out the skin, it also has healing properties and has a calming effect on the skin 👍🏻Acrylates Copolymer - prevents irritation Highly recommend this product for those who have oily/combo/acne prone skin. Give this a try and let me know how this product work for you!
