My Problems with This Popular Serum.

socialworkskin
Over the summer, my pores became a lot more visible. I decided to try the new cult-classic serum The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
which has gained so much attention on Cherie, TikTok, Instagram, etc. Here are my honest thoughts about this popular serum! Product Details
Contains 10% niacinamide-a multi-functioning ingredient that controls sebum (oil) production, supports the skin barrier, and promotes cell turnover rate. The main purpose of it in this serum is to control oil production.
Contains 1% Zinc PCA- regulates sebum production and has antimicrobial properties that can aid in curing acne.
Has a thick gel-like texture.
My Review
My skin was really up and down with this product because of the ZINC in it. ZINC can be irritating to some skin types. While most times my skin could handle this product, there would be times that I would get irritated with this product. If I used this during a bad breakout, this would sometimes make the breakout worse. If you have sensitive/dry skin, don’t purchase this.
My second issue with this serum is the formula and the crazy amount of pilling the product does. I sometimes feel like a snake using the product. Pilling can be a sign of using too much product and there are certain ingredients in products that make it more prone to pilling. The best way to stop the pilling is by adding this serum to a moisturizer.
Even though I had those two problems with the product, I still give it a 3 stars because it definitely dramatically reduced the appearance of my pores. I’ll keep using it til I run out but I definitely won’t repurchase this. I find using my Hada lobo HA serum helps reduce the appearance of my pores (see my other post). If you have a drier skin type but still want to use niacinamide, I recommend buying the THE inkey LIST - Niacinamide Oil Control Serum. That formula doesn’t have zinc it in it, and I hear it doesn’t pill as much!

jassintadoeI have dry slightly sensitive skin and I use TO’s niacinamide daily and it doesn’t cause any irritation and I’ve never had pilling either so it’s a shame it didn’t work well with your skin

socialworkskinMy skin is just very moody with it. Some days it gets irritated by it, other days it doesn’t. It sucks because other than that problem it does a good job in minimizing the appearance of my pores!

Nighttime Daily Routine
I started this routine a few months ago and it has been working for my dry skin. I start with micellar water Simple - Kind to Skin Micellar Cleasing Water This helps remove makeup from my face before cleansing. It’s gentle and does not irritate my skin. Even when I don’t wear makeup I use it because of the tint in my sunscreen. Then I cleanse CeraVe - Hydrating Face Cleanser For Normal To Dry Skin I use this product and it does not dry out my skin at all, it takes a while to get used to the lotion texture of it. This cleanser does not remove makeup well for me and that’s also why I use the micellar water. Then Niacinamide The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% I use this because it works well with the retinol and helps reduce irritation that can be caused by the retinol. I am interested in trying a different Niacinamide because I read the percentage in this is higher than necessary Then retinol VERSED - PRESS RESTART I got this retinol, because I heard it was great for beginners. After I finish with this I am looking to try something new. I started using it only 1x/week and slowly increased. I now use 5x/week Then moisturizer CeraVe - CeraVe Moisturising Cream I chose a cream over the lotion because it is thicker and is better for the dryer winter months. I used to wake up with dry skin on my forehead and around my lips, but since using this it has really helped! JOSIE MARAN - 100% Pure Argan Oil I started using this oil when my face my feeling extra dry, but have recently added it to my routine every night because I love the way it makes my face feel. I feel like my skin is glowing when I wake up in the morning. I love the consistency, it’s not thick or heavy. It is pricey, but totally worth it for dry skin in the winter. 2x/week I exfoliate The Ordinary - Lactic Acid 10% + HA I use this AHA on the days that I don’t use the retinol. Retinol and AHAs should not be used together I read that it was a food option for dry skin.

January empties !!!
Let’s start with those that I most likely would NOT repurchase: ACURE - Seriously Soothing Cleansing Cream the aspect I liked least was the smell. I just couldn’t get over it! For that reason alone, I would not repurchase. HERITAGE STORE - Rosewater Spray nothing particularly exciting about this toner. I have some other toners I’ve had my eye on so I’m going to move onto something new next! Next let’s talk about what I would repurchase: CeraVe - Resurfacing Retinol Serum very gentle retinol serum, great brand, what more can I say? COSRX - Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence this had me glowing at first! But I feel that the improvements I initially saw faded after awhile and I haven’t noticed the same results since. I do like using this as another layer of moisture in the cooler months. Finally, let’s talk about what I’ve already repurchased: The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% this serum is fantastic! I get some larger hormonal breakouts along my jaw line and I feel like since I’ve started using this product, it does a great job keeping those pesky pimples as minimal as possible. I’m not sure how it compares to other brands’ Niacinamide products but I sure do The Ordinary’s version! Have you tried these products? What do you think?

niacinamide that ACTUALLY worked for me!
When I first learned about niacinamide, I was dealing with an oily mess on my face, so of course I was excited to hear that there was something that controlled oil production and helped reduce redness from breakouts. I looked at a bunch of reviews and I ultimately decided to buy The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% . I’m sad to say it really didn’t live up to the hype for me. I’ve completely used this up and I honestly I couldn’t be more excited. It’s not like this serum caused any breakouts or anything but it was so disappointing to find that it didn’t really help my skin. So before I even finished this serum, I bought THE inkey LIST - Niacinamide Oil Control Serum . And I’ve really got to say: WOW!!! The difference in the oiliness of my skin is incredible! I’ve done multiple tests to see how my skin reacts, and I can really tell a difference in oil control when I use this serum in my routine! I couldn’t be happier with THE inkey LIST - Niacinamide Oil Control Serum and if you haven’t had much luck with The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% , I highly recommend you try The Inkey List one before you give up on niacinamide!

The Ordinary Niacinamide + Zinc Serum Review
The Ordinary Niacinamide + Zinc Serum Review
[PRODUCT REVIEW] Serum The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% What You Need to Know: Cruelty free Fragrance free Alcohol free Silicone free Nuts free Gluten free Vegan Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) 10% Zinc 1% My Personal Experience: I did not realize how much this serum has helped my skin until I ran out and stopped using it for a few days. My skin was much more oily and therefore dull as the sebum oxidized on my face. Now it’s a staple in my morning routine. This serum is lightweight, easy to spread, and creates an almost matte finish after applying. I do find that if I use too much it can become sticky or soapy. For me, 2 or 3 drops are enough for my entire face even plus neck area. I want to be transparent about my situation. I’m 23 years old, living on the east coast, with no major skin issues. My skin isn’t very sensitive. My main concerns are oiliness, enlarged pore at the center of my face (genetic + bc I’m oily), a bit of redness of my cheeks (mostly bc of acne in my teenage years) and occasional pimples. I use acids at night plus weekly more intense mask treatments so I’ve built up my skin tolerance for actives. I like this serum a lot for my morning routine because niacinamide is a multi-tasker and I like my morning routine simple. It is an antioxidant. It helps with pores and oiliness. Honestly that’s enough for me in the morning. I’ve used maybe 3 or 4 bottles of this with many moisturizers, primers, and foundations, and luckily for me it works under all of those. Since I started using niacinamide, even my asian mom began to compliment my skin once in a while 😳. I get pimples less often and my complexion is brighter. It can be a little bit dry during winter, like my skin feels tight after applying it. But as long as I switch to a more hydrating moisturizer or add something like hyaluronic acid it works perfectly. I do want to point out that this specific formulation contains zinc, therefore making it more suitable for people with oilier skin and pimples. Also, I have read that a lot of people find this formula a bit irritating. So if your skin is on the drier or more sensitive side, I’m not sure this will be the right niacinamide for you. There are a lot of other products on the market that has niacinamide. And there are a lot of people sharing their experience with different niacinamide products. If you’re interested in trying out niacinamide, there are a lot of resources online for you to read. Hope you find your perfect ingredient and product. ⭐️ Final Tips: I believe (after doing my own research) that niacinamide is quite stable and can be used both AM and PM. But wear SPF everyday. Always. ☀️ In terms of layering actives, there are a lot of resources online and you should always research for you own specific conditions to avoid irritation.🌱

Niacinamide 10% & Zinc 1%
Let’s talk Niacinamide. What is it? Niacinamide is vitamin B and is great at reducing the appearance of skin blemishes and skin congestion. @theordinary created their formula with zinc which aids in clearing sebum. What is sebum? Well, a quick google search will give you the yucky details 🤢 Now, The Ordinary does not make claim their product is to treat acne. But I personally feel that this is a great option for those of you that have mild acne issues and are looking for an alternative method to what you’ve been trying. I had been using an OTC product containing Benzoyl Peroxide and was tired of bleached sheets and towels and decided I’d give this a try. . Also very important to note as I just learned of this, Niacinamide should not be used in conjunction with vitamin C. If you use vitamin C in the am, than use Niacinamide at night, and vice versa. Otherwise, Niacinamide can effect the integrity of the vitamin C. And The Ordinary suggests using your vitamin C at night. . So, this is my second bottle of Niacinamide 10% & zinc 1%, which puts me at using the product at about three months. So far I am loving it. It has taken over any other need for acne treatments. I have found my pores to be clear. I don’t have oily skin so I am not sure how well it works for oily skin. I do find it to be a bit soapy as others have mentioned. Only half a dropper is needed. I find if I really slow down my routine and let my products take the time to sink in, I have less issues. . Niacinamide 10% & Zinc 1% can be purchased at @ultabeauty $5.90 @sephora $5.90 @theordinary 30ml $5.90 60ml $10.60 This one is a definite staple for me. My daughter actually uses it as well and has been able to come off her prescription topical medication. She only uses it around that pesky time of the month

the ordinary had given itself a great platform recently over all social media’s! i’ve seen many people use these products to clear up their skin, here are some great products for oily/ acne prone skin. 🔆 Niacinamide 10% + zinc 1% helps oil production, and minimizes the appearance of pores. this is a serum so you should use it before other creams and oils. do not use with vitamin c. 🔆salicylic acid 2% helps blemishes and tones. use after cleanser and before oils and creams. 🔆100% plant derived squalene helps dehydrated skin. use after moisturizer any time of the day. 🔆 Hyaluronic acid 2% + B5 helps repair skin and avoid dehydration. works best when used before moisturizers and oils. *use all of the above in the morning and night*

Not the niacinamide serum for me
Not the niacinamide serum for me
I love niacinamide as an ingredient but not all niacinamide serums work for me. A classic example of this is the The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% . I first tried this when the ordinary first released itself. I had no idea what niacinamide was at the time so I blindly purchased this because of its cheap price and the promise of helping with oiliness, pores, and acne. The actives in this serum are 10% niacinamide to reduce blemishes, congestion, and brighten the skin, while the 1% zinc pca is supposed to regulate excess sebum activity. This has a gel texture that feels a bit slimy. It dries down pretty quick but leaves a tacky finish. This didn’t work for me back then because it pilled so badly under everything. The only time I noticed minimal pilling was when I just used only this after cleansing followed by a moisturizer. Otherwise, this was terrible to layer under other products. This also left a stinging sensation on my skin which can even be felt when layering something else on top. The stinging went away after a couple minutes but it was still uncomfortable because it occurred every time I used it. My last gripe with this was it broke me out badly and caused my skin to become drier which can be a side effect of zinc pca. I stopped using this back then and only decided to revisit it recently to see if my experience would be different since I’m much more knowledgeable about ingredients now. Plus, I also wanted to compare it all the newer niacinamide serums that I’ve used since then. But unfortunately, nothings changed. The same problems I had before with this product remained. It was ok at first but after a couple days, I started breaking out and my skin felt more dry and sensitive. I’ve got my answer now so I won’t ever be revisiting this product again. There’s just so many other alternatives out there nowadays. If this works for you then please continue using it. I just wanted to share my own experiences and thoughts on this product. Feel free to share your own thoughts on this below. Do you love this or did you experience something similar to me? Rating: 2/5🌟 #CherieCreator #TheOrdinary

For clear skin even if you’re sensitive!
For clear skin even if you’re sensitive!
a.My skin type is combination, often with hormonal acne during parts of the month. I generally have pretty balanced skin! b.This product includes 10% Lactic Acid – which is an AHA exfoliator that gently penetrates the skin to clean out pores and renew skin. Lactic acid is one of the gentlest acids so it’s great for beginners or anyone who has more sensitive or reactive skin. This serum also includes hyaluronic acid to deeply hydrate the skin and provide extra moisture as the Lactic acid exfoliates. c.The texture can tend to pill up a little which is one of the few cons of this product. It has a thick viscous feeling on the skin, but most of the time I find it sinks in well as long as you use the appropriate amount. The packaging is a classic Ordinary glass bottle, which makes it recyclable. The size of the product is also great and has lasted me a long time since you only need a few drops for full effectiveness. d.I use this product 2-3 times a week – first I wash my face, then apply toner and let it absorb completely. After that, I take a few drops of the acid into my palms and gently tap it into my skin until it’s completely absorbed. After that, I follow with a hydrating moisturizer and oil! In the morning, I’m super diligent about applying SPF! My skin overall really loves lactic acid so with consistent usage, I get less breakouts, more even skin, and generally a more even texture with reduced forehead bumps! e.I would 100% recommend this product to a friend, and honestly give it 5 stars! the only thing that I don’t love is that the formula can be a bit tacky sometimes depending on the toner that I apply underneath it, but it’s just so affordable and effective that I’m willing to overlook that! The Ordinary - Lactic Acid 10% + HA #cheriecreator

niacinamide- the ingredient for ALL skin types!
niacinamide- the ingredient for ALL skin types!
(note: what i am listing for what it has helped me with isnt what its helped me with personally, but what it can help anyone with. i dont have wrinkles, but this product can help others reduce their wrinkles.) first and foremost, i wanna say that just because this is for all skin types doesnt mean it works for everyone. everyones skin is different and everyone can have reactions to anything. but, this ingredient is able to help all skin types! its pretty unlikely you will have a bad reaction to it as well since its a form of an essential nutrient. niacinamide, also called nicotinamide, is a form of vitamin B-3, which is a necessary micronutrient. it has many benefits, and therefore can be used for all skin types. some of its benefits are as listed: it helps build keratin, a protein that keeps your skin firm. this can help with aging skin. it helps build a ceramide barrier, which can help retain moisture. retaining moisture is important for all skin, even oily! it helps fight inflammation it can minimize your pores it can help to regulate oil production it protects your skin from UV rays it can help treat dark spots and acne scars it can minimize wrinkles it can protect your skin from outside stressors such as toxins and sunlight it can treat acne so as you can see, this is one of the most versatile ingredients for all skin types!! its really amazing snd has worked wonders for my skin. i have been using this treatment: The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% it has helped control my oil and reduce my ance scars, as well as help prevent my acne (along with my other products). it has also helped to reduce my redness.
