Let’s talk about sunscreen ☀️ What’s a good sunscreen to wear? One that is: * Broad-spectrum protection (protects against UVA and UVB rays) * SPF 30 or higher * Water resistant This will help protect your skin from early skin aging, sunburn, and skin cancer. What is the difference between chemical and physical sunscreens? Chemical sunscreens work like a sponge, absorbing the sun’s rays. They contain one or more of the following ingredients: oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate, and octinoxate. These are often easier to rub into the skin without a white cast. Physical sunscreens (aka mineral sunscreens) act like a shield, sitting on the surface of your skin and deflecting the sun’s rays. These can come on white. They have the active ingredients zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide Reapply every 2 hours when outside in the sun ☀️ Some of my favorites: Tinted: Cerave tinted, la roche posay tinted, alastin CeraVe - Face Sheer Tint Hydrating Sunscreen SPF 30 LA ROCHE-POSAY - Anthelios 50 Mineral Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid SPF 50 ALASTIN SKINCARE - HydraTint Pro Mineral Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 36 Not tinted: colorescience, drunk elephant colorescience - Sunforgettable Total Protection Face Shield SPF 50 Sunscreen DRUNK ELEPHANT - Umbra Sheer Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30 What’s your favorite sunscreen?

I truly underestimated how great this sunscreen is. I had it for a while but never used it. It’s tinted, I had no idea haha it truly leaves your skin such a beautiful color. I took before and after pictures so you can see :) It blends beautifully, and doesn’t have that normal sunscreen smell. I love that it has UV/UBV protection. It’s truly a great sunscreen, especially if you have sensitive skin, they specifically created it for that :) if you are looking for a tinted sun screen, this one is amazing! LA ROCHE-POSAY - Anthelios 50 Mineral Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid SPF 50 WHAT IS IT? 100% mineral sunscreen with zinc oxide and titanium dioxide this is developed for sensitive skin. 50 SPF TEXTURE: non-whitening, fast-absorbing texture leaves a matte finish on skin. SPLOTCHY tinted mineral sunscreen. Save your 💰
Ugh🤬 I bought this sunscreen via Dr.Drays raving review. I put it on and.... ❌1. It’s a splotchy mess ❌2. It’s way too dark of a tint for my skin tone I tried reapplying in places where it didn’t cover but that made it worse. It also clumped in certain parts of my face. Just an awful product. Did anyone else experience this? 💰 For a drug store sunscreen, it’s pretty expensive ($17 + tax!). I do not recommend. Save your money. CeraVe - Face Sheer Tint Hydrating Sunscreen SPF 30

Skincare 101: the Basics
Three products are all you really need to care for your skin. Well, maybe not *you* specifically, but let’s be frank: most people don’t *need* a twelve-step routine to take care of their skin. If you’re starting off in skincare, your financial situation has changed, or your skin has been flaring with redness/flaking/breakouts, opt for a super simple routine for a month or two to see how your skin does without the extra frills. It may surprise you how little you need to keep your skin happy! • 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗿: Cleanse with water in the morning, or opt for a hydrating cleanser if you’re oily, workout, or just enjoy cleansing often. Double-cleanse with that hydrating cleanser (and/or an oil-based balm) in the evening, or opt for a single cleanse with a gel or foaming cleanser. My milky faves are CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser and HOLI FROG - Tashmoo Water Lily Nourishing Milky Wash , while my deep-cleansing faves are CeraVe - Hydrating Cream-To-Foam Cleanser and PAULA'S CHOICE - RESIST Perfectly Balanced Foaming Cleanser . • 𝗠𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗿: Moisturize morning and night, regardless of your skin type! Look for products with ceramides and fatty acids to nourish the skin barrier. If your skin is more oily, opt for lightweight moisturizers like gels and lotions. If your skin is dry, creams and balms are going to be better for binding hydration and moisture to your skin. My faves for oily skin? CeraVe - PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion , VERSED - DEW POINT Moisturizing Gel-Cream , and PAULA'S CHOICE - Probiotic Nutrient Moisturizer . My dry skin faves are NATURIUM - Plant Ceramide Rich Moisture Cream , THE inkey LIST - Peptide Moisturizer , and DRUNK ELEPHANT - Lala Retro Whipped Cream . • 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻: The most important step! Sunscreen is the ultimate anti-aging product, so reapply every two hours y’all. My main loves for all skin types are PAULA'S CHOICE - Youth-extending Daily Hydrating Fluid SPF 50 and elta md SKINCARE - UV Clear Broad Spectrum SPF 46 . Those with dry skin, I’ve been enjoying CeraVe - Face Sheer Tint Hydrating Sunscreen SPF 30 , though paler folks may prefer DRUNK ELEPHANT - Umbra Sheer Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30 . What’s your fave step? What extra step would you add in that’s not featured here? 👀 Keep up with the tag #Skincare101 to follow along this guide I’ll be posting to cover some basic concepts in skincare!

ISO! Vegan CF Tinted Spf - Reapply Every 2 Hrs
I’m on the forever hunt and I’m hoping y’all can help me!! I’m looking for a vegan cruelty free tinted sunscreen that **actually looks good reapplied every 2 hours** Here are the requirements: - Vegan - Cruelty free - Non-Comedogenic - Spf 40+ or PA+++ - Tinted - Broad Spectrum - Mineral or physical *What I use now* DRMTLGY - Universal Tinted Moisturizer SPF 46 - LOVE IT - It’s CF but not vegan. - Layers great every 2 hours - Medium coverage Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 - Love this - Layers beautifully every two hours - Chemical sunscreen is the downside - No white cast & not tinted *Sunscreens that I’ve tried but didn’t make the cut* MyChelle dermaceuticals - Sun Shield Liquid SPF 50 - LOVED EVERYTHING but... - Color was too ashy for me. If you have a light ashy skin tone go order this. CōTZ - Face Natural Skin Tone SPF 40 - Beautiful matte first application - Silicone base pills and doesn’t layer well colorescience - Sunforgettable Total Protection Face Shield SPF 50 Sunscreen - Loved the first application finish - Too oily there after - Ran into eyes but didn’t sting MDSolarSciences - Mineral Crème Broad Spectrum SPF 50 UVA-UVB Sunscreen I tested this on only my forehead this weekend. It has beautiful consistency, beautiful finish, but it left a white cast. It also passes my test acne prone test when I punch it into cosdna.com. If you have a very very light complexion I would try this! #Amavara - Tinted Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50[products]#[FourStars] - THICK - Too thick for reapplication - Bunched around eyebrows - Smelled like paint #Supergoop - CC Screen[products]#[ThreeStars] - THICK - THICK - THICK I’m so excited to hear any recommendations y’all have! Thank you!!

One Week Using Differin
Experience: I started using Differin about a week ago to deal with my maskne and dark spots. Ever since I started wearing masks more frequently, my skin has essentially freaked out. It’s super sensitive and dry, especially around my mouth, but I get cystic-like acne along the area where my mask touches my face. I decided that I was going to try Differin as my last resort before going to the dermatologist (cause I’m still nervous about going to doctor’s offices, unless absolutely necessary because of covid). The instructions recommend daily use; however, I began my first week by using it every other day since I’ve had negative experiences/reactions with other active ingredients before. Since then, I’ve begun using it every night. I use this in the evening after cleansing and applying moisturizer and Aquaphor’s healing ointment. Pros: I definitely already see a visible improvement in my skin, especially with the hyperpigmentation that I’ve dealt with. I do use other products that help with brightening, but I’ve been using those products for quite a while and haven’t seen such a drastic improvement until now. Cons: I experienced a few small breakouts around my chin, but they went away pretty quickly. I have yet to experience any significant purging/dryness, but I also didn’t jump immediately to daily use. Other Products I Use + Frequency: CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser (everyday, AM/PM) DRUNK ELEPHANT - Slaai Makeup-Melting Butter Cleanser(everyday to remove sunscreen, PM) The Ordinary - Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA(every other day, alternate between this and the next product/AM) The Ordinary - Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2%(every other day, alternate between this and the previous product/AM) DRUNK ELEPHANT - Protini Polypeptide Cream (everyday, AM/PM) DRUNK ELEPHANT - Umbra Sheer Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30(everyday, AM) Aquaphor - Healing Ointment Skin Protectant(everyday, use as a lip balm and to protect sensitive areas of my skin when applying Differin)

Battle of the Mineral SPF
Battle of the Mineral SPF
When revamping my skin care routine, I made a point to look for a mineral SPF that could serve double duty as my morning moisturizer post-vitamin C serum. I narrowed my search to these two as they both promised lightweight hydration, no cast, sensitive-skin friendly botanicals, and non-nano Zinc Oxide protection. ☀️VERSED - Guards Up Daily Mineral Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 35 I purchased this one first given its lower price point. Unfortunately it pilled both over my serum and over clean dry skin. When trying to rub it into damp skin, it stung. I even have a hard time using it as a body sunscreen because it pills so badly. On top of all that, it was not hydrating enough to serve as my morning moisturizer. Only redeeming things were the lack of cast and their customer service. 🌈KINSHIP - Self Reflect Probiotic Moisturzing Sunscreen Zinc Oxide SPF 32 Following my experience with Versed, my expectations for this were low—but Kinship knocked it out of the park! No cast, glowy finish (without being oily), no pilling, and actually hydrating. Right now my skin is super dry and sensitive from a bout of over-cleansing, and this really is so gentle on my damaged skin. Plus- no breakouts! Only possible con is it’s very sweet smelling, but I adjusted to it within a week.

Worst. Face sunscreen. Ever. 🧟‍♀️
Worst. Face sunscreen. Ever. 🧟‍♀️
CeraVe - Hydrating Sunscreen Face Lotion SPF 50 I was so hopeful when I purchased this product due to hearing a lot of good reviews about this brands other products. This was the worst face sunscreen I’ve used! It was thick, goopy and left the worst white cast I’ve experienced all over my face with the exception of my still normal looking eyes. The white cast coupled with my already fair complexion left me with the complexion of a corpse. I tried to rub it in after it sat on my face for a while, however it pilled and there were still visible white flecks of the product in my pores. I ended up using my micellar water to remove the product and opted to just stay indoors, out of the sun instead!

$20 Gets You My Least Favourite Sunscreean, Ever
$20 Gets You My Least Favourite Sunscreean, Ever
With combination skin that’s quite sensitive, I avoid fragrance, essential oils, and high amounts of alcohol in products. That can make finding a good, affordable sunscreen difficult- alcohol is used to thin texture, fragrance is added to cover the sunscreen smell, etc. But I have a few favourites that let me know it can be done.... yet, La Roche Posay missed the mark. Hard. This silicone-heavy sunscreen manages to check all the boxes both on avoiding ingredients I don’t want and managing to have all the features I dislike in a sunscreen: Feels Heavy? ✔️ Pills No Matter What I Apply Under It? ✔️ Emphasizes Skin Flaws? ✔️ Is Not At All Pleasant to the Touch? ✔️ I’m normally not so harsh on sunscreens, but this was so bad that I would vocally complain about the texture and finish to my husband as I applied it. But, its formulation saved it in one retrospect that earned it 2-Star status instead of 1-Star status- it lasts fantastically through swimming. It didn’t budge, the unpleasant heaviness reminding me it was still very much on throughout the two hours of my swimming until I scrubbed it off my face and applied my preferred sunscreen. This may work for some folks, but I’m not sure who- it clung to dry areas yet managed to make me look shiny despite using lightweight moisturizers. I plan to try more LRP sunscreens, as I know they’re a drugstore skincare standard, but I’m not super excited to be honest.

The struggle for the right SPF is so real 😩. Up until now, every sunscreen I have tried has left me with a horrible white cast and it was not cute. I bought this product on impulse and I loveee it!! I know a lot of us avoid using SPF because either we forget or cause of the white cast issue. However, this product goes on so smoothly and leaves no residue. Although, I didn't read the packaging and didn't realize how watery this product actually is (I mean it says fluid so clearly I actually can't read😂). Despite that, this product is a great SPF for dry skin like mine. This product claims to effectively provide UVA/UVB protection while hydrating your skin. It's been great for my dry skin! What works for me may not work for you, and vice versa! Always do your research before trying new products! 💕

SPF myth
SPF myth
Myth: the higher the SPF, the more protected you are from UV rays. Truth: the truth is, theres not much difference between SPF 30 and 50 in terms of how much percentage of sun rays are blocked. I believe the you grt arohnd 97% coverage with an SPF30 and 98% with an SPF50. Realistically, you’re ok with an SPF30 or 40, and just make sure you’re reapplying every two hours or as directed. This has been a myth I grew up with and went into my teens with. I even saw an SPF100 one time. I was surprised when I was told to still be careful because SPF100 did NOT mean i was 100% covered and protected, which is a big part of why brands are no longer labelling or marketing for an SPF higher than 60; nowadays, thats the highest you’ll find on the shelf. I learned that in the recent years when I became more passionate and savvy about skincare, and now I use my favourite sunscreen by Vivier cosmetics, an SPF of 45 and its working great for me. I especially love the texture and feel on my oily skin. These stats are for UVB rays, UVA rays are different and are blocked out in different numbers, but thats a story for another post. For now, have fun with your SPF 30+!

The elta md Spf moisturizer is my go to product in the morning. It is meant to protect you from the sun, while keeping your skin moisturized throughout the day. It goes on smooth and doesn’t feel thick or sticky like most SPF’s do. I have been using this product for about 5 years now. One of my family members is a dermatologist and she recommends this to all of her patients, and of course her family! This is one of the only products containing sunscreen that doesn’t break me out. It is the best! I would recommend this product to everybody. The product is definitely worth the $28.50. elta md SKINCARE - UV Clear Broad Spectrum SPF 46
