Dermatologist opinion: facial oil dupe
Marula oil is extracted from the marula tree nut found in Africa. Benefits of marula oil: ✔️Rich in antioxidants- which help fight off free radicals from pollution and UV exposure. ✔️Anti-aging – the antioxidants also help with its anti-aging properties to help keep the skin looking youthful. ✔️Rich in fatty acids- (oleic and linoleic fatty acids) that soften and moisturize the skin. ✔️Lightweight - What’s great about marula oil is that it hydrates the skin and absorbs well without being too heavy or greasy. ✔️Immediate glow- I definitely notice my skin is radiating after I wear this oil. I love to use this instead of a moisturizer as a last step in my nighttime skincare routine, especially during the winter months! DRUNK ELEPHANT - Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil Drunk elephant - $72. yes the packaging is beautiful, but that price point is way too high. It only has one ingredient: marula oil. Why is it so expensive? It is likely due to the processing. It is cold pressed with a patented process of unheated extraction. It is unclear if this process is necessary to maintain all of the benefits of marula oil. The Ordinary - 100% Cold Pressed Virgin Marula Oil Ordinary- $8. Also 100% cold pressed marula oil. The processing may be slightly different. The application is a little less light weight, and for this reason slower to absorb, but still blends easily into the skin and gives an immediate glow. Final thoughts: after trying both, I would choose the ordinary product because they are both so similar! What would you choose?
💙Marula Oil💙 A Quick Review💙
The Ordinary - 100% Cold Pressed Virgin Marula Oil is amazingly lightweight and is quickly becoming my favorite skin oil. It has a light scent and I’m glad because a lot of fragrance is something I avoid in about 90% of the products I buy. It is a part of a brand I trust wholeheartedly and is worth every penny! If you are looking for an amazing skin oil that is affordable and works wonders to hold in moisture to your skin, this is the product for you!
How to use Ascorbic Acid POWDER + my AM routine
Vitamin C will forever be part of my morning routine, because the 'before and afters' don't lie!! I experimented with a number of AM routines and different vit C serums from The Ordinary before landing on their The Ordinary - 100% L-Ascorbic Acid Powder Ascorbic Acid is pure vitamin C in its most potent, and also the most unstable form. It is incredibly difficult to formulate serums with L-Ascorbic Acid, which is why TO offers it in a powder form to slow/prevent its oxidation. You are meant to mix it with a liquid only as you need it. Don't worry, it dissolves in water based serums almost instantly and does not feel gritty! My "before" photo is from a little over a month ago, and my "after" was taken today (Nov 20) after using the ascorbic acid powder daily for 1 month! Both taken in the same room, same lighting, zero makeup. In addition to improving texture and decreasing breakouts, the difference it made in my pigmentation and skin tone is incredible! This is my AM routine and directions on how to properly use a pure powdered form of Ascorbic Acid. After cleansing, I add 1/2 a scoop of The Ordinary - 100% L-Ascorbic Acid Powder into my palm (start with only 1/4 of the supplied scoop until your skin adjusts). Then I add 2 drops of The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5and 2 drops of The Ordinary - Amino Acids + B5. You're aiming for about a 20% concentration of vit C. Mix with a finger until the powder is fully dissolved then apply evenly over face and neck, avoiding eye area. It is advised to use additional antioxidants with vitamin C in order to minimize oxidation and increase its effectiveness. Therefore I immediately follow up with 2 or 3 drops of The Ordinary - Resveratrol 3% + Ferulic Acid 3% I then apply an oil to moisturize. I currently use about 3 drops ofThe Ordinary - 100% Cold Pressed Virgin Marula Oil and sometimes mix with a couple drops of The Ordinary - 100% Plant-Derived Squalaneif I need a moisture boost. (Feel free to use any moisturizer that you prefer, as long as it doesn't contain actives that conflict with Ascorbic acid.) The last step is always, always, always sunscreen! I use thinksport - Everyday Face Sunscreenspf 30 which I tint to match my own skin tone (see my previous diy post for this). Then proceed with makeup (or not). Some additional notes: Keep powder closed, away from sunlight, and DRY. Don't even open it in a humid bathroom after a shower! If it oxidizes, toss it immediately. It mixes most easily in water based serums, but can be added to other serum or moisturizer which it does not conflict with (consult TO's regimen guide). Mix only what you need per application, don't pre-mix a batch. And start out slowly since it does tingle/sting a bit. I hope this is helpful, but don't hesitate to ask me if you have additional questions. Thanks for reading!

Facial oils - my experience
Even though I have combination skin, I try to incorporate facial oils in my routine. I feel like they are the bodyguard for our skin, they seal all the products underneath. I have tried two oils till now and here is what I thought: Initially when I used the Biossance oil I thought it worked great, but my skin started breaking out very badly after3-4days and I stopped using the oil all together. I was very scared to use facial oil after my bad experience with this. BIOSSANCE - Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil Then I came across Drunk elephant and with all those glimmering reviews I decided to give Marula oil a try and I never regretted it. My skin didn’t break out at all. And the oil also gets absorbed by my skin quickly and doesn't leave an oily icky residue. I especially love using this at night, when I have more time to massage my face. It minimizes the tugging from facial tools or friction from your fingers. Not everyone likes or needs oils on their face; but if you do, then don’t think twice before buying this! :)DRUNK ELEPHANT - Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil

Pictured: my growing bybi family - i’m really into this 100% natural, vegan & cruelty free UK beauty brand. Started by two female entrepreneurs, I love bybi for many reasons; firstly, the company focuses on using sustainable ingredients and up-cycling, so there really is little waste when it comes to the ingredients that go into these products. My experience with bybi has been amazing; all the products are exceptional quality yet extremely affordable - most of the boosters cost £12 as does my favourite babe balm bronze! ... plus the packaging is just so cute!! The priciest item you can buy from bybi is £32 and with seasonal sales, everything is even more affordable! The strawberry booster aims to help dry, flaky skin and I love using it the day after I use retinol or stronger bha exfoliants. This is also perfect for sensitive skin. Bakuchiol is a well known retinol substitute which acts like retinol but doesn’t have all the drying/flaking side effects! This booster claims to rejuvenate the skin and improve overall texture! I cant wait to try more of bybi’s products and continue using these ones. I love how high quality everything feels and adore the two founders behind the brand 👏🏻 👏🏻 bravo ladies
Will facial oils break you out?
Facial oils can be daunting if you’re someone who is prone to breakouts. I don’t typically have acne now in my mid 20’s, although I have a condition that makes me have hormonal-imbalance induced breakouts. On my personal journey with oils, I’ve found sukin - Rose Hip Oil was a helpful product with acne scarring. I gave it only 3 STARS because if you’re someone who has ongoing acne, it can make things worse. I would consider using this once your less prone to breakouts. For example, I had acne as a teen but as it cleared into my 20’s this helped with any dark marks and spots. I’ve heard from others that a good option for scarring is BIOSSANCE - Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil although personally, I find it irritates my sensitive skin. Another great oil for calming & soothing my sensitive skin — and not much else — is Kiehl's - Midnight Recovery Concentrate I give this 4 stars, because like I said it is calming for my skin and smells pleasant, but I’m not so sure about the anti-aging claims this product makes. I do not see any difference in fine lines. However, it leaves my skin with a healthy glow, so I will sometimes wear it out on no-makeup days. Now as for the two oils that are pictured.... Let’s start off with price — (Canadian $) ✨Tarte’s Maracuja oil retails for $21 for 15ml. It claims : smoother, brighter and firmer skin 🐘 Drunk Elephant’s Marula oil retails for $53 for 15ml. It claims: moisturizes, nurtures and restores a youthful glow 🎉 FOR LESS THAN HALF THE PRICE of DE’s Marula, Tarte is my winner !! 🎉 It softens my skin and most importantly.. does not BREAK ME OUT. When I’m in need of some extra moisture, this is my go-to. I can layer it under or over my moisturizer and it absorbs into my skin. By morning, my skin feels like it had a drink of water. It also appears brighter and plumper. I find my makeup applies much better when I’m properly moisturized as well. Unfortunately I found that on several different occasions, DE’s Marula broke me out time and time again. I can’t get past that. As for moisturizing, it is comparable to Tarte but not worth the pimples & blemishes I wake up to the next morning! I’ve found a different use for this pricey oil, I now use it on my body & stretch marks, ‘cause why not? In conclusion, the cheaper of the two is the better product. No complaints here! 🥰 I’ve heard many rave reviews on DE’s oil, just curious if anyone else had the same issue as I did? & if you have any other oil suggestions I’d love to hear them! Thanks 😊
Drunk elephant 🐘: worth the hype?
Skin type: combination. Skin concerns: fine lines, wrinkles, dullnes, pores. Drunk elephant 🐘 is a brand that you can see all over the internet, most beauty bloggers have something of this brand and don’t hesitate to take a picture since their packaging is very colorful. But... are these two DE products really worth the hype? DRUNK ELEPHANT - Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil Key ingredients: Virgin Marula oil. Price: $72 for 1 oz. Worth the hype?: No. The first time I saw this bottle (full size), I fell in love with it 😍. The truth is that it took a long time to try this product and when I finally had it in my hands... meh 😑 it's like any other Virgin Marula oil and the truth is that there are thousands on the market at cheaper prices. I'm glad I bought “the littles” pack. DRUNK ELEPHANT - B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum Key ingredients: pro-vitamin B5, pineapple ceramide, sodium hyaluronate. Texture: lightweight serum. Price: $48 for 1.69 oz. Worth the hype?: Yes. I like the versatility of this hydrating serum, it can be used alone or in combination with other products. It’s quickly absorbed leaving the skin hydrated and fresh, a little goes a long way. I combine it with Virgin Marula oil and vitamin C. I think the price is reasonable for the amount of product you receive. What do you think of them? 🔎

Luxe Hyaluronic Acid Serum
One of my favourite skincare products is hyaluronic acid. I’ve been trying to find the perfect one and this is it! This is by Pestle & Mortar who are out of Ireland. While I love a good Canadian product, this company is amazing, too. PESTLE & MORTAR - Pure Hyaluronic Serum This is a multi-molecular weight hyaluronic formulation. It’s light-weight & fragrance-free. It also contains panthenol —aka pro vitamin B 5— which is a humectant used in skincare because it attracts and holds moisture. Pros: + Hydrating + Claims to reduce fine lines & wrinkles + Restores dehydrated skin + Plumps skin + Fragrance-free + Suitable for all skin types Why I love it: While it’s similar in consistency to The Ordinary’s hyaluronic acid serum, I find its less tacky on the skin. I apply this serum by massaging it into my dampened skin and notice no pilling afterwards. It makes my skin feel smooth and hydrated and plump! It gives me a healthy, dewy, hydrated glow. For 15 mL it costs $33/ for 30 mL is $59. Cons: + It’s pricey to ship if you live outside of the UK. To ship to Canada it cost $20. + Duty: the bane on my existence. It cost me another $31 to receive my package. In total this was a very expensive purchase. If you live in the UK or you don’t mind absurd shipping rates and duty, I definitely recommend haha.

My go-to skincare night routine🤩
I have combination skin as my T-zone is oily while the other parts are super dry. As you know, since we’re suggested to stay away from the crowds, I‘ve been staying at home for quite a time and the dryness caused by the air conditioner has been more severe. I must admit that it’s drunk elephant that pulled me out of the dryness concern. In my PM routine, I use Clinique’s toner, then drunk elephant’s B-hydra, followed with its Marula oil and end with the Polypeptide Cream. I’ll tell you in detail about this de’s family.Drunk Elephant B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum $48I got this baby from Sephora for $48. I think it not pricy for a 50ml face serum. It’s said that it can replenish the skin complexion and improve the look of skin texture and tone. I bought it for the concern of skin dryness, so I do not pay much attention to its targets of dullness, uneven texture and fine lines. I love the Pro-Vitamin B5 in it as it’s a good helper in holding hydration to the skin. The formulation is very light and it’s very blendable. It absorbs into my skin very quickly. I did feel my skin drinking enough water after applying this. One bottle can last a very long time so I think it’s really worth the price.Rate: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟Will I repurchase? Definitely yes!Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil $72Since my T-zone is quite oily, I seldom use facial oil. However, after reviewing so much positive reviews on Cherie, I made my decision to have a try. It’s not cheap as the name says, luxury😅 but it did change my mind on oil. It’s very lightweight and really blendable, I love the idea of de’s skincare smoothies, so I often mix it with the Polypeptide cream, it can make the cream more blendable. It won’t make my face feel oily, which is amazing. I love the water-like texture and I do feel the hydration effect of it. But I seldom use it in my AM routine since I’m afraid of my oily T-zone. Considering the high price, I rated it 4 stars. Rate: 🌟🌟🌟🌟Will I repurchase? Maybe not considering the price.Drunk Elephant Protini™ Polypeptide Moisturizer $68This one is definitely my true destiny this year!!! Most of bloggers praise its effectiveness on anti-aging, but I would like to highlight its hydration effect. As I said, my skin was going through severe dryness. This moisturizer smooth my face and make my face so soft, without dehydration. The lotion-like texture is very lightweight and very easy to blend. I cannot help touching my face the next morning☺️ And for 50ml, $68 is acceptable. I really appreciate its cost-to-performance ratio. You can also try mixing it with the marula oil. I’ll repurchase this cream for sure.Rate: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟Will I repurchase? Must.If you have the same dryness concern like me, please review below and tell me your fav skincare routine😉 I‘m very willing to explore more amazing beauty products.
HYDRATION in a Bottle! 💦 OSEA Sea Serum
Okay — this is IT. This is one of my all time favorite hyaluronic acid serums. It’s fab for irritated skin — it’s literally all I want to put on my face after a long day at the beach being in the son. It absorbs super quickly into your skin & feels silky smooth once it dries. The texture feels super jelly — and i really like it. There’s a few types of seaweed that help lock in the moisture & maintain hydration. I feel super plump & refreshed the next morning, and always helps soothe any irritation 🌊🌊🌊 It’s a little pricey at $88, but worth it IMO.
