SCALP SCRUB PACKAGING FACE OFF!
I feel like the key to beautiful and happy hair, has to start at your scalp! I have tested way too many scalp scrubs to have only JUST found *the one*... Is it just me, or does packaging play a huge role in determining if you’re going to like a product? The Ouai scalp & body scrub: claims to be a deep cleansing, foaming skin and scalp scrub. It is meant to remove build up from your scalp and smooth out dry patches of skin. Drunk elephant TLC happi scalp scrub: claims to be a supercharged AHA/BHA acid blend that dissolves dead skin cells and build up. My scalp is incredibly dry and always itchy, due to an imbalanced scalp and product build up. I am always on the search for the perfect scalp scrub that can actually do the job and keep the itchiness away for longer than an hour. I finally found the scalp scrub I’ll always reach for, and the main reason is the packaging! I HATE dipping my wet hands into a scalp scrub CUP. Ew! I absolutely love how easy it is to dispense the DE scrub into my roots with the squeeze tube packaging AND bonus tip dispenser. The thin white paste of the drunk elephant scrub is also so much easier to spread around, than the huge gritty paste of the ouai scrub. The drunk elephant scrub is also so much faster to rinse out, as it has biodegradable exfoliating beads in it, that simply dissolve. The Ouai scalp scrub has huge sugar-like crystals in it that I can still feel in the shaft of my hair after I rinse it out. It gets caught everywhere! My last determining factor for which scalp scrub is for you, is the effectiveness. When I use the Ouai scalp scrub, I feel that it’s purpose is more for removing build up, and I mean heavy duty build up. The Ouai scalp scrub is what I would opt for if I had insane build up, and haven’t been able to use a scalp scrub in a long time. It does a super deep clean and most times leaves my scalp very dry. The drunk elephant scrub is the winner for me because I don’t usually have a ton of product build up and mostly need to get rid of the dead skin cells on my scalp and rebalance it. I would recommend both, depending on which of these concerns you have more! OUAI - Scalp & Body Scrub

Top HAIR PRODUCTS of 2020!!
Hey guys! This is the 3rd post for my Best and Worst of Beauty 2020 series! You guys love these posts, so let’s get right on into my top pick for haircare! Once again my disclaimer that these are my opinions, experiences, and data I’ve found. If your opinion or data differs, that’s okay, this is just for fun. Shampoos and Conditioners: 🧴 🚿 I have two picks for this category, one expensive, one cheap. For expensive I choose function of beauty - Custom shampoo + conditioner , which is my current shampoo. Function of Beauty has you take a hair quiz and choose hair goals, then they formulate a custom product based on your hair needs. It costs $49.99 for one 16 fl oz bottle of conditioner and one 16 fl oz bottle of shampoo. The price drops to $39.99 for a 8 fl oz version. Since the formulation depends on your hair, I’ll just share the link to see what may be in yours. If you go to https://www.functionofbeauty.com/ingredients/ it shows the ingredients added per hair goal. My goals are to hydrate, lengthen, anti-frizz, shine, and soothe my scalp. My hair used to be very dry and frizzy, and it hasn’t been since using Function of Beauty. My hair has grown way fast than it ever has, 6 inches since quarantine began! My scalp is also less itchy. A splurge, but worth it. If that’s too expensive you can get the ogx - Thick & Full + Biotin & Collagen Shampoo and ogx - Thick & Full Biotin & Collagen Conditioner . They’re sold separately for $7.99 each for a 13 fl oz bottle at Ulta. They make your hair very soft, as well as nourished. Scalp Scrub: 👩🧼 My pick is definitely theOUAI - Scalp & Body Scrub . It has fine sugar crystals that remove dandruff buildup, or dead skin cells on your skin. This one is pricey, at $38.00 for a 8.8 fl oz tub at Sephora. It has been on Allure’s Best of Haircare list for 3 years straight, and has glycerin and hydrating oils. Hair treatments: ✨🧴 The davines - All In One Milk Lotion is technically a men’s product, but I (a female) LOVE it! You can get a 4.56 fl oz spray bottle for $35.00 on Amazon. It makes your hair shiney, smooth, and detangles it. My only complaint is it has a very strong scent. My second pick is the Maui MOISTURE - Lightweight Hydration + Hibiscus Water Quenching Detangler . It’s much more affordable at $8.99 for a 4.2 fl oz bottle. This is a basic shine inducing detangler that works great with a comb. Hair Mousse: 🛁🧴 The LAYRITE - Natural Matte Cream is another man oriented product that’s great for everyone. For men, it’s mostly used to wax/gel their hair into place. I like it for crazy hair day or Halloween, but for people with a lot of baby hairs or pixie cuts, this is a must. Those are my picks! Thanks for reading this post! Cheer this post so more people can learn about these amazing products, and follow me to see the rest of the series! -Mae
Have you done your scalp detox?
An intergral part of our hair care routine is a scalp detox. A scalp detox is a method of massaging the scalp by brushing or using an exfoliating scrub, which helps buff away dead skin cells, unclog the pores on your scalp, and clear product buildup from the hair follicles. Detoxing the scalp can also help relieve itching, dandruff, and other forms of irritation. To have healthy hair, we need to build a healthy foundation/ scalp for it to grow well. I have using an amazing multi-use scrub from OUAI to build a healthy scalp. OUAI Scalp & Body Scrub The Sell: - Suitable for all hair types - A deep-cleansing, foaming skin and scalp scrub - Sugar: Unclogs and gently exfoliates and conditions while increasing microcirculation - Probiotic Blend: Supports your scalp and skin’s microbiome’s natural defenses - Coconut Oil: Rich in fatty acids that nourish and moisturize the skin, scalp, and hair The Look: I always love multi-use skincare and beauty products and this scrub works well for both body and scalp. While the particles can get stuck in the hair, all it takes is a couple of washes to ensure that they are removed well. It definitely helps to apply the scrub on exposed scalp for ease of cleansing. After washing, my scalp feels cleansed and light. The fragrance - Melrose Place smells like heaven, it boasts a velvety rich rose fragrance with hints of bergamot, lychee, cedar-wood, and white musk. This scrub is perfect for self-care spa day. How to use: Section wet hair to reveal scalp and massage in circular motions to gently exfoliate. Rinse and dry hair as usual. Good to know: Winner of Allure Best of Beauty 2020. Sulphate & paraben free, cruelty free US$38 fo 8.8oz, 250g OUAI - Scalp & Body Scrub

Love It or Leave It: Drunk Elephant Haircare
I’ve been using the Drunk Elephant hair products since their release in March of this year, and the results have completely blown me away. My hair has never looked or felt this healthy in my entire life. 😱 ⠀ My hair is naturally curly and very frizzy, but I prefer to wear it straight. (My ends, for example, may look split in this photo but they aren’t; they never lie fully straight thanks to my somewhat coarse texture and curl pattern). Because of this, it takes high and frequent heat to get these locks this smooth and silky, so I’m always needing to ward off potential damage. ⠀ I shampoo 1-2 times weekly with Cocomino Glossing Shampoo, which is gentle and doesn’t strip my hair of its natural oils, and I follow with Cocomino Marula Cream Conditioner. I leave the conditioner in while I finish my shower; the longer the better! My hair absolutely drinks it up. ⠀ Afterwards, I spray Wild Marula Tangle Spray through sections of my damp hair to help with tangles (this stuff works miracles, I swear!) and to give some much-needed heat protection. Once or twice a week I also use T.L.C. Happi Scalp Scrub. This is the one product that has actually made a marked difference for my perpetually dry scalp. It’s divine! ⠀ After a few weeks of use, I started realizing how soft my hair always was. All these months later and it’s only gotten better. My hair is less frizzy, it’s always so soft, and it looks and feels healthy. All the time. Not only does my skin live its best life, but now my hair does as well. ✨ ⠀ Have you tried any of the Drunk Elephant hair products? Which ones are your favorite? Let’s chat in the comments! 👇🗣 ⠀ * I did receive these products in PR, but I’ve also since repurchased the entire line myself. How I Treat My Dandruff / Scalp Psoriasis 😳
If someone told me that I would one day post a photo of my scalp during a psoriasis / severe dandruff flare up.. I’d be mortified. But sometimes “seeing it is believing it”. The proof is here in the pudding, guys - TLC Happi Scalp from Drunk Elephant x Chris McMillan not only removes the dandruff from my scalp, but also helps bring my scalp back to a healthy state. As you can see from the top photo, my scalp was raw, red & tender due to the flaking, itching & picking - LEARN from ME, do NOT pick!!! When Happi Scalp was first released, I started off by using it once a week. But now that winter is approaching & the air is more dry, I think that has played a factor in why I’ve been having these flare ups more frequently - so I’ve been applying Happi Scalp 2x a week instead (Weds & Sun). I was also testing out a lot of different & new hair care products, which I think made my scalp freak out / cause some build up. 😬 This before shot was taken the day after washing my hair & using a hair mask. I was having some dandruff / scalp psoriasis on certain spots, but really flared up on this day particularly. The after shot was taken a week later after using Happi Scalp twice during that time period and strictly sticking to using Drunk Elephant’s Cocomino Glossing Shampoo & Cream Conditioner. ✨ Let me know down below what your tips & tricks are for relieving symptoms of dandruff & scalp psoriasis?! 🌟 * Happi Scalp has been gifted to me but also repurchased by myself 💞 DRUNK ELEPHANT - T.L.C. Prose Hair Care: First Impressions
This is my first time using Prose and after one wash my hair and scalp feel great! I normally don’t spend much money on shampoo, conditioner, and other hair products. I’m always on a budget and do very minimal styling to my hair each day. Buying from Prose was a BIG splurge for me, all three of my products cast about $80 😬 But I can say that it was money well spent. Much like my skin, my scalp is usually dry and flaky, and finding products that smooth without buildup or weighting my hair down is tricky. With the consultation survey I took on the Prose website, my concerns and goals for my hair were identified pretty accurately. It even uses your zip code factor UV, humidity, and air quality of your area! I was impressed with the survey, and when my order arrived I was super excited for my next hair wash. I chose their new spring scent Prelude, it’s a nice subtle floral smell without being too overpowering. My three products I purchased were the pre-shampoo scalp mask, shampoo, and conditioner. Each one comes with its own instructions detailing how much to use and how long to let it sit in your hair. Overall I am impressed with Prose after my first use. I wash my hair every 2-3 days so it’ll be a few more weeks before I decide wether to re-order or not. Excited to continue using Prose! 🚿🧼😊
Function of Kayla. Sunkissed is the perfect golden yellow to have as your shower companion all summer long! I have been so curious about personalized haircare. I love the idea of something being made for my unique concerns just for me. With Function of Beauty you are able to take a hair quiz highlighting your hair type, any hair goals you may have, preferences and you can even customize color and fragrance. I love that FoB explains the reason for adding each ingredient based on hair concerns. I wash my hair once or twice a week so it is truly a ritual. Having haircare made for me made it even more enjoyable. The shampoo and conditioner left my hair soft, clean and moisturized. I do use an oil pre cleanse to break down product build up but the shampoo did a great job at washing it away. I love that the system comes with a leave in treatment that can be used on wet or dry hair. I don’t find my leave in weighing my hair down used wet or dry, it adds a nice amount of hydration and shine. The scent that I picked is milk(shea)ke which smells like vanilla, shea butter and coconut. Its absolutely delicious and I find it lingers on the hair for a day or so which I love. For those who don’t like strong scents there is an option to get your haircare unscented or choose the amount of fragrance. I look forward to using this hair care system every time.
I’m obsessed with my Scalp Revival Line from @briogeo. I was in the need for some good haircare. With my long thick hair dry scalp is something that I struggle with throughout season changes, especially the colder months. The Charcoal & Coconut-oil shampoo is a clean miracle worker that smells like peppermint goodness & has the most amazing thick texture. I love the fresh, cooling effect it leaves on my scalp, I can just feel it doing it’s job. I’m also loving my Charcoal & Tea-tree treatment. I used to use Moroccan Argan Oil for my dry scalp & now I use this treatment. The only thing I would say about the shampoo is that you have to use an enormous amount for thick long hair. It’s better for shorter hair. Thank you for making my hair healthy again Briogeo!!🥥🍵 Briogeo - Scalp Revival Charcoal + Coconut Oil Micro-exfoliating Scalp Scrub Shampoo
Briogeo-Scalp Revival Charcoal + Biotin Dry Shampoo
On Wednesday I used to religiously look forward to my #washday, but as you guys know when I had my hiccup with postpartum hair loss, I was discouraged and hated seeing my hair come out in clumps. I can thankfully say that I don’t see as much shedding and I’m giddy about washing my hair all over again. - @briogeo team members Tath (Taylor & Kathleen) reached out to #gift me some products from their plant based and clean brand. I’ve seen Briogeo all over my timeline but wasn’t in the mood to try new products with my hair crisis. I’m elated that I’m able to now enjoy it in its fullness! The #ScalpRevival Micro-Exfoliating Shampoo is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. The gritty textured shampoo is packed with a bunch of awesome ingredients like charcoal, coconut oil, and peppermint oil. I enjoy the tingling clean sensation. - That tingling sensation is also felt while using the ‘Charcoal + Tea Tree Oil Scalp Treatment’. I’ve been using my finger and the treatment on my edges, but using the massager tool throughout the rest of my scalp. I don’t know why I never had one of these tools but they feel so damn good! Besides the lush feeling I finally have something in my cabinet to help stimulate my cells and allow the treatment to penetrate even more.

Don’t 👏 Waste 👏 Your 👏 Money 👏
Luckily I did not pay for either of these products (chosen as my Sephora birthday gift)!!! I had heard so many good things and was quite excited to just be disappointed. Do only people with thin hair buy high end hair products?!? Because these WERE NOT made for ya girl’s thick hair. The charcoal scalp scrub was minty feeling but did no actual exfoliating by the time I got it to my scalp. I even sectioned my hair and applied it directly to the scalp and nothing. And the conditioner is so thin I just used it as a leave in conditioner and honestly it hasn’t done anything more than my usual cheap garnier leave in conditioner. And the prices are RIDICULOUS you guys. I expected hair miracles at $42/8 oz for the charcoal and $36/8 oz for the conditioner. I’m not a fan of making scathing reviews but you need to know when it’s snake oil peeps. Put that expensive ass tub down (yeah it comes in a tub that you definitely will get water in while you shower) and find some budget brands that work wonders!!! Hair Mask that bring life back into my hair
#amikagiftedme soul food nourishing mask . If your hair is especially dry, this one’s for you! . For some unknown reason, my hair has been getting really dry lately. I haven’t changed much in my haircare routine, so I’m thinking maybe it’s the weather? Either way, it is what it is, and now I have to deal with it somehow. . This mask already had me at the word ‘nourishing’, but the fact that it has jojoba oil really sealed the deal for me. Both my skin and hair love jojoba oil, so I knew this would be good. And you know what, it is good! Just after the first use, my hair felt much softer and hydrated, and stayed that way for a while. I didn’t have to dunk it in oil to keep it from feeling like hay. . It’s quite thick, almost as thick as your average body cream, but it spread through hair with no problems. I let it sit on my hair from around 6-7 minutes, wash it off and don’t follow with conditioner. The mask gives enough hydration. . Let me know what you use to keep your hair hydrated and nourished. I need all the recommendations I can get 😂 . . . . gifted #cheriecreatoramika: - Soulfood Nourishing Mask
