Brand spotlight: self/ish
@Selfishskin is a brand that was created for men to demystify skincare and make it an enjoyable experience through the use of effective ingredients. I don’t usually care for gender specific skincare but if this makes guys want to take care of their skin more then by all means. All the products in their lineup contains their vitamin boost complex (blend of vitamins A, B, C, and F) to protect the skin and active acid complex (blend of exfoliants) to gently exfoliate the skin. ▶️ SELF/ish - SELF/ish Facial Cleanser - daily gel textured cleanser that contains micro granules, humectants, and gentle surfactants to effectively cleanse the skin without stripping it. This has a pleasant sweet citrus scent. I was caught off guard by the granules but they weren’t abrasive. My skin felt soft and smooth post cleanse without any dryness. ▶️ SELF/ish - SELF/ish Facial Scrub - creamy textured scrub with very fine ivory palm seed powder to help gently exfoliate the skin. I’m not sure why a separate scrub was created since the cleanser already gently exfoliates but this one wasn’t bad either. Because it was in a cream base, my skin wasn’t stripped or dry after using this. I’d say this is for those with more sensitive skin that’s prone to redness. ▶️ SELF/ish - SELF/ish Oil-Free Moisturizer - medium weight creamy textured moisturizer that has a bit of richness to it. This delivers a ton of hydration and moisture to the skin without that heavy and greasy feeling. This was my favorite product out of the set as it was light enough for daytime use and occlusive enough for nighttime use with two applications. It didn’t make my skin greasier throughout the day. ▶️ SELF/ish - SELF/ish Eye Cream - medium weight eye cream that’s packed with vitamins to make it look like you got those 8 hours of sleep. I didn’t really care for this product as much but it did hydrate and moisturize my under eye area well. I’m just worried it might be a bit too heavy for me since I’m prone to milia. But nothing bad to say about it really. Overall, I enjoyed every product they sent me. But I’d most likely repurchase the moisturizer since that was favorite. If these interests you guys, give them a try!

Refreshing rose mist
Let’s review THE PLANT BASE - Mielrose Petal Essence today. This is an essence mist that claims to provide moisture, nourishment, and anti-aging and brightening benefits. It contains key ingredients such as 75% damask rose, 0.3 French rose powder, cabbage rose oil, 8% honey, niacinamide, adenosine, sodium hyaluronate, propolis, royal jelly, and a few other botanicals to hydrate and brighten the skin. This is an essence mist that sprays out into an evenly fine mist. It quickly delivers some mild hydration and moisture onto the skin that gets instantly absorbed without a sticky finish. I enjoyed using after cleansing and in between steps of my skincare routine. It added extra hydration into my skin as well as helped subtly brighten my complexion. I also enjoyed popping this into the fridge to add a cooling sensation before I spritz this on throughout the day sometimes. This contains a ton of rose extracts and oils so the main scent of this is...rose. It’s actually quite strong when you first spritz it but it dissipates after a couple seconds. If you’re not a fan of rose scent or if you’re sensitive to fragrances, then this is not the product for you. There was a lot of claims with this product but the result I noticed was just slightly more hydrated and brightened skin. The addition of the fresh rose petals were very aesthetically pleasing to look at but I’m not sure if they had any real benefits. Overall, I’m glad I got to try it, but I don’t think it’s worth a repurchase since I just felt like I was spritzing on rose water which was nice but didn’t provide much benefits to my skin. I was hoping the honey, propolis, and royal jelly had a bigger impact on the product performance but it didn’t do much unfortunately. Have you guys tried this? If so, any thoughts? Rating: 3/5 🌟 #CherieCreator #ThePlantBase

Calming serum for irritated skin
Centella asiatica, also known as tiger grass, is an antioxidant-rich herb that has skin soothing and skin healing properties. It also helps to strengthen the skin and reduce the signs of aging. One product that contains an abundant amount of this amazing ingredient is the celimax - The Real Cica Calming Ampoule . It contains 75% centella asiatica extract along with other notable ingredients such as urea, allantoin, trehalose, beta-glucan, some plant extracts, and various molecular weights of hyaluronic acid to soothe, hydrate, and help the skin recover from daily aggressors. This has a lightweight gel texture that transforms in a watery consistency as you massage it into the skin. It dries down to a slight tacky finish that disappears after a couple minutes or when something is layered on top of it. This feels very cooling and refreshing on the skin. My skin usually reacts well to centella products since it’s one of the calming ingredients that really helps to quickly calm any redness or irritations that my skin is experiencing. The results I noticed with this specific cica ampoule was that it boosted my hydration levels while also offering some mild soothing effects. There was a slight negative reaction where it caused my skin to be itchy a couple of minutes after application but it subside after a while. I’m not sure what caused this. It could’ve been one of botanical extracts or the added fragrance. Yes, this does contain fragrance unfortunately which is why it also has a faint herbal scent that’s not overwhelming though. Overall, I enjoyed using this product and I plan to finish it. But, I’m not quite sure this is the perfect centella product for me just yet so I’ll hold off on repurchasing. It’s still a great product so give this a try if you’re in the market for a new centella based ampoule. Have you guys tried this yet? If so, any thoughts?

Japanese sunscreen for your spf needs
I don’t know why I didn’t try the CANMAKE - Mermaid Skin Gel UV sooner! I purchased this a month or so ago and I finally started using it and it’s such a great sunscreen for oily skin. It’s a hybrid sunscreen that utilizes UV filters zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, octinoxate, uvinul a plus, and tinosorb s to provide strong protection against UV rays. Other key ingredients include arginine, sodium hyaluronate, beta-glucan, and various plant extracts for antioxidant benefits. This has such a lightweight gel texture similar to that of an essence sun gel. It sinks into the skin very quickly leaving you with a natural semi-matte skin finish that has a slight sheen without any greasy residue. It doesn’t leave a white cast at all, and it’s not sticky. This leaves my skin feeling very hydrated and moisturized. I can even skin my daytime moisturizer when I’m using this. I was really impressed with the formulation of this sunscreen due to all the UV filters that’s in it. Some more positive notes about this is that it doesn’t contain any added fragrance or alcohol (unlike a lot of other Japanese sunscreens). Reapplication was pretty much seamless since it easily reapplies and it doesn’t feel heavy with multiple layers. My only gripe with this is the size. It’s comes in a 40ml tube which I can honestly go through in like 2-3 weeks. I really wished Japanese brands would increase the size of their sunscreens but at least it’s affordable to me at about 11-12$ per tube. This also doesn’t sting around the eye area nor has it caused any irritations on my skin which is always a plus. Overall, this is an amazing sunscreen that I‘ve been enjoying. I can already see myself repurchasing this in the future. I definitely recommend giving this a try since I believe it’ll work for most skin types. I purchased this on YesStyle if you guys are interested. Feel free to use my code “SKINWITHTUAN” to save a couple bucks off your order. If you’ve tried this, any thoughts on it?

Hybrid toner and moisturizer
Also known as the cream skin refiner, the LANEIGE - Cream Skin Toner & Moisturizer is basically a moisturizer in a toner form. It’s a 2-in-1 formula that preps and softens like a toner but moisturizes like a moisturizer for those hydration and nourishing benefits all in one step. This contains key ingredients such as meadow foam seed oil and white tea leaf water, which is rich in amino acids to strengthen the skin barrier, moisturize, and soothe. This has a lightweight watery texture that feels very nourishing on the skin. I found that this absorbed fairly quickly while leaving me with a smooth skin finish that makes my skin feel soft and supple. This doesn’t feel sticky with 1 layer but as you apply multiple layers, it can get sticky real fast. As someone with oily skin, I mostly utilize this as a way to shorten my routines. I’ll apply 1-2 layers immediately after cleansing followed by my sunscreen during the daytime and a thicker more occlusive moisturizer during the evening and I’m good to go. Unless you’re someone with very dry and dehydrated skin, I don’t think you’d need more than 1-2 layers because like I said, it’ll start to feel heavy with more layers. I tried layering this with other products and it just ended feeling a bit to much for my oily skin. I actually used this around winter time last year and it was great for keeping my skin hydrated and moisturized during colder temperatures. Overall, I’d say this is a great product for all skin types since anyone can benefit from it. I also really appreciated that it’s fragrance free considering we all know how much fragrance laneige likes to use in their other products.

Top tier vitamin c serum
I’ve been using the @naturiumskin vitamin c serum 22% (now known as the NATURIUM - Vitamin C Complex Serum ) for almost 2 months now, so let’s dive into why I think this is such a great serum. This is formulated with a blend of stabilized and encapsulated l-ascorbic acid, sodium ascorbyl phosphate, and bioactive fruit blend that helps to brighten and protect the skin for a healthier complexion. Other notable ingredients include kakadu plum, glutathione, beta-glucan, sodium hyaluronate, gold, and vitamin e. This is such a nicely formulated serum with it’s lightweight gel texture that quickly sinks into the skin. It leaves a bit of a tacky finish but that disappears after a couple minutes. With most vitamin c serums, you can expect a slight tingling sensation upon application but that feeling was very minimal with this one. There was some purging that occurred in the beginning when I started using this but it wasn’t that bad. I still found this to be gentler than most vitamin c serums that I’ve tried. I mainly used this in the morning for it’s antioxidant properties. It pairs well with any sunscreen to boost it’s efficacy in order to keep your skin protected. I love how plump and hydrated this leaves my skin after application. After daily consistent use, my skin’s complexion looks healthier and brighter with a subtle glow. It’s also been very effective at fading my stubborn dark spots from my breakouts. One interesting thing I learned about this serum was that the brand uses gold to encapsulate the active ingredients which helps to stabilize the product, amplify, and deliver the actives better. Overall, this quickly rose to the top as one of my favorite vitamin c serums. I will definitely be repurchasing once I finish up some of my other vitamin c serums. Naturium so far has really impressed me with their well formulated products. I plan on trying out their vitamin c serum plus next since that one also interests me.

How I regrew my hair back with the tips I learned over the past four years...
I've started losing my hair since high school, which has been quite painful for me for years. I've tried nearly all the methods I could find on the Internet, magazines and so on but the truth is that most of them don't actually work for me. After trying so many hair growth "tips", I finally got my hair back! I'll list the tips that are actually helpful to me, so you don't need to waste your time on the useless ones: 🌟Massage scalp with hair serums or hair oils Many of those who have bought hair growth serums or hair oils like to complain that these hair growth products or hair thickening treatments don't work at all, and I used to be one of them until I found that It's the way I apply these products hat makes them less effective! Don't just simply drop your hair treatments and then rub them your two seconds. You need to use a scalp massager or brush such as BOUCLÈME - Scalp Massager to gently let your scalp absorb them, which helps hair follicles remain active. I normally massage my scalp for at least 5 minutes before I go to bed. My favorite hair growth serum is GROW GORGEOUS - Hair Density Serum Intense in case you are interested. 🌟Take vitamin supplements Vitamins are the key for hair regrowth: Vitamin A promotes healthy production of sebum in the scalp; vitamin E helps blood circulation to maintain the productivity of hair follicles. My doctor advised me to take some vitamin supplements daily. At first, I thought it was nothing but a waste of money, but I noticed a difference that some newly grown babies were growing on my hairline after taking DL.MD - Liquid Multi-Vitamin Supplement for one month! 🌟Stick with mild hair care products Keeping hair and scalp clean is necessary, but steer away from the strongly detoxing ones as these strongly purifying shampoos overly exfoliate your scalp and will harm your hair follicles. By using gentle shampoos and conditioners like Anne Semonin - Memoires D'ete Gentle Shampoo and Neutrogena - Healthy Scalp Gentle & Soft Conditioner with Micellar Water, you are lowering the risk of infections and sensitive scalp that may lead to hair breakage or loss. 🌟Carefully using the wig clips I used my lace front wig sometimes to cover my bald spots on my scalp during the period that I suffered from the severe hair fall. The lace front wig usually has clips added for steady holding. If you are using a wig, don't constantly put the clips of your wig in one area of your head, as the clip can tug at your real hair. Also, don't pull at the wig or yank get it as these actions harm your scalp and aggravate hair loss. But don't get me wrong! I'm not saying that you need to avoid wigs, but you'd better be careful with them! Very quickly, I used to feel depressed and shamed for my hair loss, especially when I was a teenager, and I guess there must be someone who is still going through something similar. Having wresting with the hair fall for about four years, I gradually learned how to accept my hair fall and reacquired my confidence. It's not something self-inflicted, and some so many women are having the same problems! Take your time, keep your head up, and follow those really helpful hair tips, you won't be troubled by the hair fall for sure! Love you guys lots xx!

Toner, Peel, Serum, Mask? Four Ways to AHA
What is AHA? Alpha hydroxy acids gently removes dead skin cells, encouraging the regeneration of new skin. It is know for its ability to reduce hyperpigmentation, minimize pores and brighten skin. So how is that different from Glycolic Acid? Glycolic acid is actually a type of AHA! Known to be the “smallest”, most researched and gentlest AHA, glycolic acid does all of the aforementioned things and also acts as a humectant, leaving us with smoother, plumper skin. AHA vs BHA? So some of the products I’ll mention contain both AHA and BHA. BHA, particularly salicylic acid, is great for reducing acne but can be drying. BHA has better penetration into pores due it its affinity to oily sebum. That’s why they say BHAs are better for oily skin! How should I incorporate AHA/Glycolic Acid into my skincare routine? Whichever way you choose! Some prefer it in their daily routine whereas others prefer it 2-3x a week- the products mentioned below allow you different options. 1. AHA as a toner. The Ordinary - Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution When: Everyday if you want, AM or PM toning step. Price: $8.70 for 8oz Comments: I personally wouldn’t use this everyday especially if you have a broken skin barrier (it stings!) but it leaves me so hydrated and clean the next morning. Paired with a hydrating night serum, I’ve noticed a huge decrease in pore size and bumpy irregularities on my face. 2. AHA as a night cream/peel. VERSED - THE SHORTCUT Overnight Facial Peel When: 2-3 nights per week in my moisturizing step. Price: $9.99 for 0.5 oz Comments: If you have super sensitive skin, this one is for you. This acts as a lotion and has been the mildest form of glycolic acid I’ve seen. I don’t notice as drastic of a glow as TO’s toner or Good Molecules’s Overnight, but it works. Another con is the price...$10 for only 0.5oz allows for only 6-7 uses before repurchasing, whereas I’ve had that 8oz toner for almost a year with plenty left! 3. AHA as a night serum/sleeping mask. GOOD MOLECULES - Overnight Exfoliating Treatment When: 2-3 nights per week in my serum step. Price: $6 for 1 Oz Comments: this is my absolute favorite way of getting my AHA for only $6. I use only 4-5 drops as a “serum” in my regular night routine (see my old post). I would minimize using too many other acids with it! Creates a delicious glow in the AM, this mask also minimizes pores. It is not drying even though it contains BHAs! Would recommend for those who are dry, blackhead, and acne-prone. 4. AHA as a wash-off mask. The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution When: 1-2 nights a week for 10 min before rinsing off. Price: $7.20 for 1 Oz Comments: This product is hyped and I’m not too sure why. It works as a wash-off mask but it’s drying (bc of BHAs). I would only recommend if you want to add a mask without changing your existing routine.

This might look like a weirdly shaped vibrator, I promise it’s not though! Last year, while checking the beauty section at tkmaxxde (Fun fact: tjmaxx and TK Maxx are the same company, same logo, you can even find the same stuff. One is the European name, one is the American one😉) I found a pmd at-home microdermabrasion device half off! I had been eyeing it for a while, so I decided to get it. Great decision! The device exfoliates your skin in a way similar to microdermabrasion. I normally prefer chemical exfoliation but I gladly make an exception for this. The PMD has exchangeable, spinning discs: It’s best to start with one for sensitive skin and slowly increase the roughness. It also has vacuum suction, like actual microdermabrasion. The treatment doesn’t take long, you actually need to move the device relatively fast or you overexfoliate. I mostly use it on my face, but there’s also a head and discs for the body included. I use it once a week and exchange the discs every four uses. Afterwards I use a calming mask and focus on hydration. I really like the results! I have used The Ordinary‘s 30% AHA + 2% BHA peel (the red one) regularly before and I liked it a lot, but this is even better: My skin looks even and glowy in a way it didn’t before! I got microdermabrasion treatments done before, and this device actual gives me the same results. ✨✨ Out of all devices I own, this is my favourite! Only downside: If you overexfoliate you are left with painful red marks that will take several days to disappear, so be careful!
Niacid by Slurp
Niacid is truly a unique product that I have enjoyed using and it is marketed as a “post-acne scar and indentation distillate”. It is by Slurp which is a new Korean Beauty lab that has more recently come on the market. It features snail secretions, vitamin B3 and hyaluronic acid but one of the stars in this product we haven’t seen in a while is tranexamic acid. Tranexamic acid is something that has been used in medicine for a long time to help stop bleeding so it helps reduce redness, which along with vitamin B3 help the melanin in the skin to disperse so your skin has a more even color. The snail secretions work to stimulate the development of new skin which helps reduce scarring and indentations. Finally, the HA adds the final touches with a nice dose of moisture. The product is also unique in that anything with vitamin B3 needs to be progressively increased until you achieve the full dose because your skin has to up regulate its ability to absorb vitamin B3. So for this serum it is recommend that you start with 4-6 drops on the face for about 2 weeks then move to about half of a dropper for 2 weeks, then move to a full dropper over the whole face until the bottle is finished. I used the product in that fashion and it lasted about 3 months. The consistency is very thin and watery and as soon as it penetrates, your skin gains a slight glow and nice smoothness. For $43 plus shipping this product is not the most cost effective but it is definitely worth checking out. I have experienced some really great results from this product and I recommend it. slurp - Niacid
