My favorite at home “gel” manicure!
I’ve gotten so much better at painting my nails after not going into a salon in months, and this combo of products allows my manicure to last a full 2 weeks. I haven’t ventured into gel polishes that require a UV lamp, but the OPI Infinite Shine formula is the same quality. OPI - Infinite Shine Prostay Primer

Battle of the top coat pt. 4!
I got this primer and top coat in a set, on sale at Winners for $10! I’m going wearing the essie - Expressie Quick-Dry Nail Polish in “take the expresso” it’s a super deep neutral brown colour. I’ve been super into more nude nail polishes recently. This formula is really good for a quick dry colour, I find that sometimes those chip easier, but this formula doesn’t do that! I ventured away from my favourite base coat to try something new. I find that the OPI - Infinite Shine Prostay Primer is pretty liquidy compared to my tried and true conditioning primer by OPI, which kind of goes along with a learning curve because it went all over my cuticles. Unfortunately I broke a nail this week and had to remove the polish after 5 days. This held up really well for that period of time. Not a whole lot of chipping, some wear at the edges but that’s about it. I’ll have to do a full test of the OPI - Infinite Shine ProStay Gloss Top Coat when my nail grows back 😪 📍= product was sent to me for free
Nail Care 101 - Dos & Don’ts💅
Dos Do - Use glass nail files. Especially you have weak Sometimes you may find glass nail file is not as sharp as sand ones. Since it is very low grit file, it will not damage your nails. Do - Rub your nail with regular rubbing alcohol to remove the dirt and oil with a makeup sponge. Some people prefer cotton balls. I would not recommend since those cotton pads or balls always leave those little strings on your nail. This can become really annoying when you are applying polish and its hard to notice till you actually applying the polish and messes up with everything. Do - use base coat and top coat as better prep before applying actual color and give it a shine finish. A top coat would also make the finish shinier and stay longer. Do- start in the middle when painting you nails. then go near the cuticle area and drag it up from each side. Dont’s Don’t paint over other colors. I know this is obvious, but I do see a lot of people painting over other colors. Do not cut your cuticles too much or too often. What you want to do instead is to get yourself some cuticle oil or softener and just rub it and massage that along your cuticles. And after approximately 5 minutes, you are gonna use a wood stick or a push to gently push back your cuticles. This step you want to make your cuticles look nice and even but not over cut. Over removal of cuticles will weaken your nails and cause further damage to cuticles. Do not file in both directions. A good practice is to filing in only one direction. If you do both sides back and forth, it’s almost like sawing your nails and probably cause more damage. Although it takes a lot of time by doing this, but it worth it. Do not use old nail polish that you had for 3 years. The texture are becoming thick and sticky and make it hard to apply and crusty. When you are applying the polish, do not wipe off the brush too much or having too much product on the brush at a time. You want to apply with enough polish which doesnt dry fast before it is evenly applied and you also don’t want it falling very where or flooding your cuticles and take forever to dry OPI - Infinite Shine Prostay Primer OPI - Nail Laquer + Top Coat NICKAK - Cuticle Nipper Single
Pumpkin Patch Inspo nails
The polishes I used are ranging between main stream big box and indie companies. OPI is usually very consistent, this orange is from their fall 2019 collection. It screams pumpkin orange to me and applies effortlessly. Cirque Colors has been one of my favourite indie brands, I love how interactive they are on IG. There was a learning curve to working with their polish but once you master it, they’re a dream to work with. I have to admit my bias with Holo Taco, as the brand creator, Cristine (Simplynailogical) is a idol of mine but she knows how to create great products. Orange drink is from her Rainbow Summer collection, while at the time I felt more pumpkin vibes than summer vibes, it reflects fall to me beautifully. It’s also is easy to work with. Linear holo polish can be thicker than the average polish do to the pigments they are trying to pack into it but, again, once you get the hang of it, it’s a solid polish to work with. Your nail polish Zodiac ✨
So I decided to have a little fun today and assign zodiac signs to my nail polish collection! It became a little hard when I realized all I owned was every shade of green, a few blues, and a few purples 😂 but we made it work! I’m really huge into the zodiac. I’m an Aries sun, Virgo moon, and Cancer rising. If you know your signs let me know below! Aries - Red and Gold. For this I chose the KL Polish Prince Cornelius as it’s a burnt red base (aka fire sign) with gold and silver suspended glitter. Taurus - Green earth tones. For this I chose Sinful Colors Electric Sage. To me Taurus’ seem chill until you get them to a certain point and they can be just as fiery as Aries. That’s why I choose a sage green with gold suspended glitter. Gemini - Top Coat/Transformer Polish. For this I chose Pacifica Crystal Gloss Top Coat in Milky Way. Just like Gemini’s have two sides this nail polish has two uses. You can use it as a beautiful holographic base coat or double up on layers for a beautiful purple opaque nail polish. Cancer - Grey. For this I chose KL Polish Graham. Most cancers I know in real life (including my ascending sign) are really moody so I chose Grey. Leo - Orange. For this I chose OPI Suzi Needs a Loch-Smith. Leo is a very bold and passionate fire sign. I chose orange for them as this bold color signifies that to me. Virgo - White. For this I chose OPI Alpine Snow. Virgo represents the virgin and white is what I think of. Libra - Gold. For this I chose OPI I Pull the Strings. Libras represent the scales which in my mind have always been gold. Scorpio - Black. For this I chose OPI Black Onyx. I feel like this is super cliche but there is no other sign I feel like black polish represents more than Scorpio (as much as I’d like it to be Aries 😂) Sagittarius - Blue. For this I chose KL Polish Cozy in There. Every Sag in my life is so nurturing, calm, and soothing. This pale denim blue is the most soothing shade I have in my collection. Capricorn - Earth tones. For this I chose OPI Things I’ve Seen in Aber-green. Capricorn is an earth sign so I choose a more brown green shade. Aquarius - Blue/Green shift. For this I chose OPI Nessie Plays Hide & Sea-k. Aquarius is the Water Bearer so naturally a blue green shift with suspended glitter to represent water seemed best. Pisces - Purple. For this I chose KL Polish Mozart. It seemed logical for Pisces to be a blue shade but I felt like it wasn’t quite right for them. Purple is still in the cool family but not stereotypical for a water sign.
3 Most Common Nail Mistakes You’ll Want To Avoid &How To Fix Them!
Since the pandemic started, I’ve had to do my own nails more often. My go-to nail salon has been closed for months. DIY manicures can be a little annoying if you don’t know what you’re doing. I’m telling you my mistakes so you can learn from what I did wrong. My Top 3 Nail Mistakes: 1. Only using one coat of polish I’m the first to admit it, I can be pretty lazy, but one coat of nail polish just doesn’t cut it. I know doing two coats takes more effort and adds to the drying time, but it’s so worth it in the end. 2. Not focusing enough on nail care Nail care is a game-changer! You need to buff, file, and cut your nails before applying polish to get the best results. Buffing really helps smooth out any ridges or inconsistencies on the nail bed. 3. Using a bad top & base coat Do you know that glossy top coat you get from at salons that makes your nails look super shiny and perfect? I didn’t use to care about which base or topcoat I used. I would just use the cheapest one available at the drug store. What a mistake! My Must-Try Nail Products: ● Seche Vite Base & Top Coat - The Sechevete base and top coats give you that salon-worthy shine you want from a DIY mani. Plus, it helps dry the nails super fast so you can get on with your day! ● Nail Buff - This thing was only $1, and it’s helped transform the way I give myself manicures! ● A glass nail file - Did you know glass nail filers are supposed to be healthier for your natural nails? The Final Look I did this fun look for the 4th of July! I filed and buffed my nails with the white buffer and topped them with two coats of my favorite nail polishes by Essie!
Which Drugstore Gel Polish Reigns Supreme?
Do you all remember when drugstore gel polishes were all the rage a few years ago?! Everyone, including myself, coveted the extra shiny, long-lasting appeal of gel manicures but wanted quicker, more affordable alternatives. I must stress this - I’ve never had a professional gel mani. My comparisons are purely going to be based on longevity, color payoff, & shine. In this post I’m going to discuss 3 popular gel polishes at the drugstore: Sally Hansen - Miracle Gel , essie - Gel Couture Top Coat , and wet n wild - 1 Step WonderGel Nail Color . All of these formulas claim to be long-wearing, high-shine, & don’t need a UV lamp to cure like traditional gel polishes. Sally Hansen: I’m wearing the shade “tidal wave” on my thumbs & pinkies (only left hand photographed). This formula is opaque in 2 coats, has a shiny finish, and easy to apply. I topped it with its matching top coat Sally Hansen - Miracle Gel Top Coat for extra shine. I purchased this shade & top coat as a set for approx $16 a few years ago, and have not had issues with the formulas changing over time. I have 1 other shade (discontinued). They retail for $7-10 each depending where you purchase. Honestly, this formula is not worth the hype or price. This shade lasts longer on me than the other one, but no where near the brand’s claims of being long-wearing. I find that my polish chips within 2-3 days and it’s downhill from there. Easily removable with any polish remover. Essie: I’m wearing “once upon a time” on my index & ring fingers. I received this & essie - Gel Couture Top Coat in an Influenster box a few years ago. The formula has not changed over time. This shade is opaque in 2 coats, shiny, and easy to apply. Sets with a polish & top coat are $18-20 and single polishes around $10-11 depending where you purchase. The formula is true to its claims of even coverage, shine, & fade-resistant. I find this to last about the same time as the WnW polishes (keep reading!). Again, for that reason, not worth the hype or price. Easily removable with any polish remover. Wet n Wild: These are the cheapest at around $5 ea. The 2 downsides are the shade range is significantly smaller (WNW ~ 10, sally hansen ~ 100, Essie ~ 45) & availability. It appears WNW has discontinued most of this line, but you can still find them at Walgreens.com and on the WNW website. This particular shade on my middle finger, “stay classy”, is one of my all-time fave polishes I’ve worn a lot over the last few years. I also have teal shade & the formula is consistent. It’s easy to apply, opaque in 2 coats, and shiny on its own (the 1-step claim) or with Seche - Vite Dry Fast Clear Top Coat This lasts around 3 days without chipping. Easily removable. Because it lasts about the same time as its more expensive counterparts, I recommend these instead. #CheriePartner
Clean and simple nail art！ 💅🏽 💅🏽 💅🏽
Something clean and simple before the new year 🖤 I used essie Model Clicks and Fairy Tailor for the base design and then drew the black lines in acrylic paint. I love detailed designs, but sometimes I really like the simplicity of abstract designs like this.
