Hair Care Essentials!
robynkenner
Hi Everyone!
So I wanted to make a post on my hair care routine on the days that I do wash my hair because it has helped my hair so much as opposed to my old routine which was the customized shampoo and conditioner that either dried out my hair or my scalp or both.
This is such an important time of the year to make sure our hair gets all the right care it needs because the air is so dry. So... let’s begin!
First, before I get into the shower I use my Wet brush - Original Detangler

How To Detangle Hair Without Damaging It
I have fine medium length wavy hair. I have been really focusing on trying to grow it longer. The key to growing it longer is keeping it from getting damaged. My hair tangles very easily after washing it and when I sleep on it. With trial and error with all types of products and tools, I discovered my go steps to less damage and detangling the right way. I purchased the Wet brush that is meant for detangling hair. I never realized that brushing my hair with the incorrect brush when my hair is wet or dry can really do damage over time. This brush was really life changing for my hair. I use it on my wet hair once I am out of the shower or even sometimes in the shower after conditioning. The bristles are really soft and when you use it, it doesn’t pull at your hair at all. I start from the bottom of my hair and work my way up. I have noticed I was losing a lot less hair when I started using this. It is worth trying to prevent further damage in the future. I will not go without it.
There is also a product I will use while brushing my hair wet that helps with any knots. It is the Dry Bar Prep Rally, Prime and prep detangler. This product has definitely been a game changer with my hair. Not only does it help with any tangles, it also is heat protectant. So, when you use any hot tools, blow dryer, straightener, or curling iron it will help protect your hair from any damage. I will apply only when my hair is wet all over. This is something I will not go without after washing my hair. I lose less hair and after blowing drying it leaves it soft and smooth and smelling amazing.

ALWAYS detangle your curly hair wet!
So when I was a kid, I learned the hard way that you can't brush dry, curly hair. I know it's doable for straight haired-peeps, but curly hair is NOT having it.
Even if you NEED to detangle it, but can't shower, it's a good idea to spray it with water. Seriously, little spray bottles of water and conditioner are our friends.
My 3A curled hair mom taught me how to brush my hair properly after. I've added my own twists to it, but here's what I do:
🌿 STEPS 🌿
Start with wet hair.
As said above!
Yes, your hair is more sensitive and elastic wet. But dry brushing disrupts curl patterns.
Also, use lukewarm - cold water in the shower! Hot water makes curls more frizzy.
Apply generous detangler/conditioner
I've found that any conditioner, even non leave-in, can work. If you use leave-in, make sure it's a silicone-free conditioner so it doesn't build up in your hair.
My favorite is the SheaMoisture - Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Conditionerwhich I've reviewed as a great, moisturizing product with rice protein and coconut oil. It has no sulfates or silicones, and has helped make my best hair days.
Here, I also tried the Carol's Daughter - Black Vanilla Moisture & Shine Hydrating Conditioner
($10.99 for 12 oz)
It has a delicious, warm scent, with nourishing biotin and Vitamin B5. The only con is it has some silicones, so this may be better as a wash-out product in the shower.
Start with your fingers, and work from the bottom
Basically: little by little. Your fingers can work out the biggest tangles better than a wide tooth comb can.
Also, brushing from the top of your head tends to break hair there, causing the dreaded frizz halo.
Starting from the bottom means less tugging- And even if there is breakage, it's in a section you can trim.
Pick gentle tools.
Wide tooth combs work out big knots- Whereas fine tooth ones can get stuck in tangles and tug at more hairs.
I use the Wet brush - Original Detangler The bristles are gentle and bendy- So they won't snap through stuck hair.
Use it only after you’ve work out the biggest knots. The balls at the end of the bristles can get snagged, so this is best for your final touches.
Still, with conditioner, it glides through hair like better- And it gently works through subtle tangles so my curl pattern can form neatly again.
Use preventative measures.
Put your hair in a ponytail while you do sports. Make sure to wash it every week. Don’t neglect conditioning.
And to REALLY amp up your curls after brushing, scrunch them with gel!
What brushes do you guys recommend for detangling wet curly hair ?

Best hydrating duo ✨
Just wanna share my love for this duo!
I have been using these for a while and since they came out with a holiday kit I bought like 3 of the sets! 😂
My curls (and scalp) LOVES these two! The only issue is that they’re not any bigger 😂 if you haven’t tried these and you’re looking for a scalp exfoliant and a deep conditioner that will restore your hair these are the ones got you!
The scalp shampoo has small beads that gently exfoliates your scalp! It has a minty scent too! Also @briogeo products are free of all the nasties chemicals! 😉Briogeo - Don't Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Hair Mask

Briogeo Scalp Revival at the Sephora Sale
The November Sephora sale is coming up soon, so I wanted to tell you all about my thoughts on these Briogeo Scalp Revival products.
Note: I will not be talking about the shampoo.
I really love Briogeo as a brand. Their Curl Charisma line has really helped me bring my curls back to life. However, I have super sensitive skin all over my body and this includes my scalp. I have to treat it right or else I get HELLA itchy and I also get dandruff occasionally.
Here are my thoughts and experiences with Briogeo’s Scalp Revival Conditioner and Scalp Treatment Serum:
Briogeo Scalp Revival Conditioner: Briogeo - Scalp Revival Charcoal + Peppermint Oil Cooling Jelly Conditioner ok, so you can clearly see that I’ve rated this 1/5 stars... but let me explain why: my hair is SO DRY. It’s really frustrating having to use lightweight products near my scalp, but having to use super thick creams on the rest of my hair. I thought this product might solve that problem by, you know, conditioning my hair a good amount all around. Nope. This conditioner has the same consistency as their shampoo, just minus the exfoliating beads...they describe it as a “gel conditioner” but it freaking lathers dude like a conditioner LATHERING?!?! No thank you. It dried out my hair so badly and did not give me any type of moisture whatsoever. So, obviously, this is not the right product for my hair type, but who would benefit from this? I would definitely recommend this conditioner if you have the oiliest hair on the planet. Like, wash your hair daily oily, no curl, no texture, just pin straight hair. That is the only type of hair I’d recommend this to. I got this in a travel kit (2oz) which I would recommend picking up if this sounds like your kind of product!
Briogeo Scalp Revival Treatment Serum:Briogeo - Scalp Revival Charcoal + Tea Tree Scalp Treatment Serum ok, so we are obviously full 180 here. Let me tell you about my lover. My partner in crime. The treatment serum. Oh my gosh. This has SAVED my scalp on multiple occasions. I use it every other time I wash my hair, so probably twice a month. It’s a lightweight serum that treats itchy and dry scalp but it doesn’t make your scalp oily AT ALL!! I love it. I part my hair into sections around the front hairline and crown where I get the itchiest, and apply it while my hair is wet after I get out of the shower. It’s kind of pricey (1oz for $32) but a bottle lasts forever for me. Like, at least a year! I highly recommend this for those with an itchy scalp.
Ok, but why tea tree and charcoal? They have healing and cleansing properties for your scalp without being overly harsh or stripping to your hair. Briogeo’s products are 6-free: no harsh sulfates, no parabens, no silicones, no phthalates, no artificial dyes, no DEA. This supports healthy overall hair.

✨take care of yo scalp 💁🏽♀️💆🏽♀️✨
Hello everybody, here are a couple things (not all but some of my faves) I use to combat some of the issues I have had trouble dealing with over the years. I don’t have a lot of dandruff per day but I have flakes that won’t come off? If that makes sense..
Let’s call what I have mild dandruff with some clogged pores.
Here is what I have found to work for me:
Briogeo - Scalp Revival Charcoal + Coconut Oil Micro-exfoliating Scalp Scrub Shampoo
Yes, the very famous, well known shampoo that everyone and their moms know and love. Yes it is just as good as everyone hypes it up to be. It’s magical, the exfoliating grains aren’t too coarse and the minty smell, cleans your soul. Words aren’t enough, and Sephora is giving away samples as birthday presents.
Briogeo - Scalp Revival Charcoal + Tea Tree Scalp Treatment Serum
Yep, same deal with the scalp oil. I tried others but this one gets me all the time! It’s very light weight too, I have incredibly fine hair that gets greasy very easily (yeah my scalp and hair is basically a nightmare on my head, like literally) the oil helps my self esteem but also I have seen a tangible difference in how my scalp reacts when I put this stuff on. It’s a cooling feeling and over time you see less clogged pores (That means you don’t get the weirds scalp acne anymore)
SEPHORA COLLECTION - SEPHORA COLLECTION Scalp Massager
I brought this knock off because it was 10 dollars, I saved my coins unlike some other people. But also if you can support briogeo so they make more cool stuff, if you can that is. This scalp massager may have just been what I needed my whole life. I am going to buy my mom one too! My scalp feels more relaxed, those sore spots loosened up and I know it’s circulating everything.. that’s kinda the whole point. Good tool to have, i use it in the shower with shampoo but I also use it with serums, oils and any treatments for the scalp (and back of the neck, it’s not meant for your neck and shoulders but it feels so good...)
NOT YOUR MOTHER'S - Activated Bamboo Charcoal & Purple Moonstone Restore & Reclaim Scalp Scrub
Thought I would like it because I like this brand but it’s not worth it.. it’s a nice conditioner with some wax beads... I guess that’s what happens when you buy hair stuff from the grocery store.. but like it’s a nice conditioner..
Kyn. - Restore Hemp Oil
Did a review on this, check that in my feed!
sulfur 8 - Medicated Anti-Dandruff Hair and Scalp Conditioner Original Formula
Last but not least, the MVP of the whole scalp dealings. Apply this for atleast three hours before washing it off, be generous but also know a little goes a long way. Doesn’t smell good but it will do wonders, it’s like magic, use it with the scalp massager and that’s a double whammy. You just got yourself a new scalp!
Aaand you’re welcome!

Good hair care sampling
This is all the hair samples I’ve tried in the past few weeks and also a part 2 of @amika faves ✨ @amika Bust your Brass line introduced me to the concept that a purple conditioner can do SO much for blonde hair. Up until then I only ever used a purple shampoo, and even the @amika one I felt was superior to my previous. My previous purple shampoo was purple but washed off white and foamy while amika: - Bust Your Brass Cool Blonde Shampoo and washer off as a purple foam- which makes me think it’ll do the most for blonde hair! I also really love the amika: - Bust Your Brass Violet Leave-In Treatment Foam , I’ve been working it in after styling and I really love it.
Some other new faves are Briogeo - Scalp Revival Charcoal + Coconut Oil Micro-exfoliating Scalp Scrub Shampoo and the Briogeo - Don't Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Hair Mask . I had no idea how much I needed a scalp scrub until I tried this, and now I know I need one in my routine. Ot makes your scalp feel so much cleaner- and dont worry about the scrub cleansers- they dissolve easily. I actually went and bought the full sizes shortly after finishing the samples. I also think its important to note that the Briogeo - Scalp Revival Stimulating Therapy Massager is the real key to scalp treatment- for both cleansing and overall hair treatment. Its been long known that massaging the scalp circulates blood flow to the roots and can help with hair growth.
Finally, I tried VERB - VERB Ghost Shampoo , VERB - VERB Ghost Conditioner and VERB - Ghost Oil that I received from a virtual gift exchange. To be honest, the shampoo and conditioner didnt jump out at me as something amazing but I really did like the Ghost oil, made my ends feel smooth. VERB - Ghost Starter Kit

Hair Growth Remedies You Need To Know
We all crave long luscious locks, right? I know I do. Unfortunately, I wasn’t blessed with Rapunzel-like hair. Hair growth depends on several factors, including diet, environment, and genetic history. However, some remedies can help keep strands healthy, ultimately allowing them to grow long and strong.
I’m sharing my favorite hair growth hacks that I swear by.
About My Hair:
I personally have very dry, long, curly hair. I tend to get a lot of breakage because of heat styling and occasional chemical treatments (highlights). My biggest hair concern is keeping my hair and scalp healthy.
My Go-To Hair Growth Products:
Biotin: I take 1 biotin pill every day. While this may not be suitable for all (always ask your doctor first), I did get an OK from my doctor to take them. I do think they really make a difference. I’ve tried a bunch of biotin brands before, and these seem to work best for my hair. Plus, they're pretty inexpensive. You get a 3-month supply for under $20. These are made with coconut oil as well, which helps keep hair hydrated.
Briogeo - Scalp Revival Stimulating Therapy Massager
Scalp Massager: Healthy hair starts at the scalp! Once I learned that I’ve never looked back. I use my scalp massager by Briogeo around 2-4 times per week to give my scalp some much-needed love! Massaging the scalp helps improve blood and circulation. When you have increased blood flow, the hair follicles are getting more nutrition. This specific massager from Briogeo was just under $20. Every time I use this, my hair and head feel incredible after.
Hair Growth Tips:
#1. Don’t use too much heat. Take it from me. I have scorched my hair so many times.
#2. Eat a lot of protein.
#3. Don’t over brush wet hair. I only use a wide-tooth comb on my hair when it’s wet.

This shampoo is so lathery. A little goes a long way and it cleans the scalp extremely well. I’ve been using Acure shampoos and conditioners for a whole year and a half now and my hair just thrives with it. If you’re looking for a shampoo that’ll give your hair a healthy shine without harsh chemicals I would give this brand a try :) and it’s curly girl method safe ;)
The only thing I would say that makes this bad is the fragrance. It’s not super strong but it is fake fragrance, which is most times bad for us. It doesn’t take any type of effect on my hair specifically, but you probably won’t care anyways if you already use scented shampoos :)

This Shampoo & Conditioner Duo Does Wonders For My Fine Hair
If you have fine hair like me, you know the struggles. It gets tangled easily, greasy quicker, and it can be a pain to style. Most fine-haired gals will probably relate to feeling like you don't have enough hair or fly-aways happen to us way more often than those girls with super thick locks.
Personally, my hair is fine but also curly/wavy. My biggest concerns are frizz, volume, and keeping my curls as hydrated as possible. Fine hair always tends to get 'dirty' faster than thick hair too. I notice the bottom of my strands feel dry, but my roots get greasy.
My Favorite Shampoo & Conditioner For Fine Curly Hair:
I'm a massive fan of the VERB Curl Shampoo + Conditioner. Each of two products rings in at $18 and has a light, grapefruit, and oatmeal scent. I think it's also important to note that these are cruelty-free and free of parabens, which is super important to me when I look for beauty products.
The shampoo VERB - VERB Curl Shampoogently cleanses my fine, curly hair without stripping its natural moisture. I also notice it leaves my scalp feeling extra clean. The shampoo is made with Glycerin, Sunflower Seed Extract, and it's rich in fatty acids. I think these ingredients help my delicate coils feel less flat and frizzy.
The conditionerVERB - VERB Curl Conditioner is what makes the duo great! I love that it's a nurturing, curl-defining conditioner. It makes my hair feel way more hydrated, and my lifeless, frizzy, fine coils look way more polished. After conditioning with the VERB Curl Conditioner, my hair feels so much softer and looks more voluminous because it defines my curl patterns.
To get the most out of this awesome duo, I usually finish off my hair routine with the VERB Curl Cream to keep my hair looking its best.

Relief for my Itchy Scalp !!
I feel like Head and Shoulders have had bad reputation over the past decade without a valid enough reason for it. Most hairdressers I speak to always talk lowly of it, with their reason being that “it contains sulfates so it must be bad” and all those marketing myths.
I personally am a big fan of Head and Shoulders. Despite having sulfates in, it’s never stripped my hair of the oils and left it feeling squeaky clean (which I hate). This is likely because it’s pH balanced and not on the more alkaline side but lathers enough to remove any oils from the hair leaving it clean!
This shampoo has a thick texture and foams really easily making it easy to wash and rinse out. It also leaves your hair looking healthy, perfect for everyday use.
I particularly like the menthol in this - if you’ve used a menthol shampoo before, you’ll know what I mean when I say it gives your scalp a tingly fresh sensation (almost the same feeling as the burst of freshness you get after you brush your teeth).
If you have a dry flaky scalp like me, this shampoo is perfect for soothing your scalp and relieving some of the itchiness. It’s the one of the very few shampoos that’s not irritated my flaky and itchy scalp. I’ve suffered from a flaky scalp for as long as I can remember so Head and Shoulders is definitely one of those products which has been a staple in my life.
What are some of your favourite shampoos if you have a dry and flaky scalp like me? Let me know in the comments below!

My Favorite Products for Dry Hair 💦
I have thin hair that has been bleached blonde. It is super long and I struggle with breakage and dryness. I’ve found the following in the beauty community on Instagram and they’re amazing and now my go to products.
✨Honey-Infused Hair Oil by Gisou
$87 for 3.4 fl oz or $46 for 1.7 fl oz
This product can be used daily for as a pre-styler and finisher or added to a hair mask for extra hydration. It can also be used as an overnight treatment. Honey is the focus of this and it has minerals, vitamins, amino acids and antioxidants. It is a very hydrating product in skin and hair care so it’s perfect for my dryness.
This product is gorgeous and they recently just launched at Sephora in the US. It is lightweight and smells incredible. This makes my hair look way better, feel softer and tames any flyaways. To use this, I take the dropper, fill it up to whatever it naturally pulls and rub my hands together with it before brushing it through damp hair or dry hair.
I use this product daily in the mornings on slightly damp hair or dry hair. I tend to use it just once a day and pair it with their honey-infused hair perfume.
✨Number 5 by Olaplex
This is the conditioner by Olaplex and I’ll use it every other day if not daily. This product repairs hair from the inside out with specialized technology.
This product works on a molecular level to repair damaged bonds in the hair. It also increases the strength and restores elasticity and protects it from further breakage. They also have a great hair mask too!
I find that nothing makes my hair feel healthier. It is thick and smells fruity in a light way. I adore this and want to try all of their products!

This is too moisturizing for 2B curls
Here's one cute illustration I enjoyed creating for @amika The Kure repair shampoo 🤩 I love how I drew the doodle design on the packaging...it turned out great💖
The milk splash part was the most intricate yet fun!😍❤️ amika: - The Kure Repair Shampoo for Damaged Hair
This shampoo is perfect for:
✓Straight
✓ Wavy
✓ Curly
✓ Coiled
✓ Tightly Coiled
✨What it is:
A keratin-rich shampoo that repairs, restores, and revitalizes dry, damaged, and overstressed hair.
✨Key benefits:
- Restores moisture, elasticity, luster, and smoothness
- Improves hairs' manageability and shine
- Provides vital nutrients to smooth and nourish hair
✨If you want to know more…
The Kure Repair Shampoo's keratin-rich formula restores damaged hair to health and vibrancy. Hydrolyzed wheat protein increases the hair’s ability to retain moisture for revitalized, shiny hair with improved manageability. Avocado oil provides nourishment and smoothing from important nutrients like protein, vitamin A, D, E, B6, amino acid.
Just a heads up with this formula and ingredients. I liked this shampoo but for my 2B curly and frizzy hair I found it to be too moisturizing hence it makes my hair flat and I experience less volume.
I love @amika and many of their products but this isn't my most favorite one! 😊🌿
I like some other shampoos better, this one sadly didn’t make my hair look the way I was expecting!
