Any questions about toner? How to use a toner
The backstory about this post is that I received a message on Instagram a few weeks ago where someone asked me why I didn’t mention “washing off” my toner in one of my posts....uhhhh. They had thought all along that toner was something you had to wash off or it would hurt your skin. I’m not sure where this person heard that, but they need to hear this: unless a toner packaging tells you to wash it off, don’t wash it off... Toners are essentially the step after your cleanser and before your serums/moisturizing step. They can contain treatments like Niacinamide, AHAs or BHAs, Hyaluronic acid, etc. and are typically a lightweight, almost watery consistency to be applied with a cotton pad or by pressing into the skin with your hands. Please note that toner is NOT believed to be a necessary step—it can be seen as a replacement for a serum or treatment or additional hydration/exfoliation—really whatever you’d like to use it for. Also note that many toners contain ALCOHOL which can be incredibly drying to your skin—please read ingredient labels before buying! The toners I typically use are:
PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator
INDIE LEE - CoQ-10 TonerI heard about both of these products from Instagram hype. Not many products live up the the hype, but these ones work great for my skin type: fair skin, sensitive, combination, acne prone with rosacea. What’s your favorite toner?

“NO FAIL” RETINOL ROUTINE - PM
I shared earlier this week my “no fail” AM skincare routine the products seen in that post I’ve used time and time again. They’ve never let me down and along with the ones listed here, are repurchases that keep my skin happy and healthy! Milk MAKEUP - Vegan Milk Cleanser I like to use this cleanser when my face needs a little extra pampering. Milk Cleanser is super soft and gentle and leaves my face feeling very nourished. INDIE LEE - CoQ-10 Toner same as used in the AM. I'm from - Rice Toner I honestly cannot get enough of hydrating products, especially when I am using my retinal. I have probably five open at this time and will use them all or a few at a time. This Rice Toner is so soft and smooth. If you’re into essences or toners this is a must try! I splash a few drops into my hand and then pat it onto my face leaving it wet until I add.... THE inkey LIST - Hyaluronic Acid Serum I lock the Rice Toner in with HA. I am indoors most of the time, a bit of a recluse, but my skin still get very dry so I lock in the hydration first and end with the moisturizer! Medik8 - Crystal Retinal this is a bit expensive but well worth it to me because within weeks of use I saw significant changes. I’ve been asked my so many what I use for skincare as I have hardly any lines and I used to worship the sun with no sunscreen (⚠️) But I’ve been lucky and take very good care of my skin now. You only need a pea size amount of retinal for your face and add it to DRY skin. YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superberry Hydrate + Glow Dream Mask last up is my new favorite (on my second bottle), the YTTP Dream Mask. You only need a small amount with this and I go through about two a year as I use it every night. It’s gentle enough to use nightly but if you’re using other treatments you may want to alternate nights (if you have sensitive skin as it has vitamin c). You can put a light layer of moisturizer on before applying this but for me, this is plenty. The Crystal Retinal I use is non-drying so I am good with just the mask. But if your retinol tends to dry your face, I’d recommend adding a light layer of moisturizer before the dream mask. ⭐️ That’s it! You could eliminate the 2 toners (Co-Q10 & Rice Toner) and simplify it down to 4 steps. I’ll be sharing my PM exfoliating routine soon! One of my favorites!!! I never thought I’d love exfoliating so much 😂 Much ❤️ my @cherie family! 🍒 #cheriecreator
MY MOST USED “NO FAIL” AM ROUTINE
The products you see have been products I’ve been using time and again for two years, around the time I got serious about my skincare life. These steps I never skip although I have added others or tried different brands. I will say again that I have used a more expensive version of Hyaluronic Acid and while it truly felt soft and comforting to my face, I don’t feel this is where my high dollars need to be spent. INDIE LEE - Brightening Cleanser best cleanser around! You can even leave it on longer and use it as a mask! This helps target dull, uneven textures, dark spots and pores. It’s a gel like texture. I am all about products that brighten my skin. INDIE LEE - CoQ-10 Toner next up is to tone and what better with one that will hydrate, soothe and protect your skin with the antioxidant coenzyme Q10 and Hyaluronic Acic! Plump that face up! I like to splash just a few drops of water on my face first then come in with Co-10. All we can do to help seal that hydration 💦 THE inkey LIST - Hyaluronic Acid Serum Then comes HA to really lock in that hydration. So may find it hard as people claim it can be “sticky” or “tacky” but I go right it after spraying my Co-Q10 and do a quick rub and then immediately tap it in. Then let it completely dry. If you don’t, you can have your following products pill, and believe me, that’s not fun! I believe everyone should have HA in their routine. There are so many variations out there at many different cost points but if you do your research and are comfortable using what works for you, go for it. Mine costs me $6.80 a month. I use it both am & pm. FARMACY - Very Cherry Bright 15% Clean Vitamin C Serum with Acerola Cherry depicted in the picture as the cute little 🍒 is VCB. I am currently out and my order is taking much longer than I’d like. But I have probably used almost 10 different brands of vitamin C (in comments) and I’ll still be goin back to Farmacy. I love the light scent and I had seen results pretty quickly, never any side effects. TATCHA - The Dewy Skin Cream I have a handful of creams I do adore and I could really probably spend less than dear ole Tatcha, but oh I do so love this cream. It just makes my face so happy. It’s a bit richer but my mother who has oily skin loves it! If I am hanging inside - tbh that’s 90% of my life - I do a light amount and then follow up about 10 mins later with sunscreen. Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 I do wear sunscreen indoors although I’m never near direct light. Life of a migrainer! 🤯but I figure one can’t aver be too careful. Plus I have ones open unfinished from the summer. But it is my stance that, yes, you should weat sunscreen indoors. It’s your best line of defense! Unseen Sunscreen makes me feel as if I have nothing on! My most used, never fail AM routine! ❤️ @cheriefam 🍒

Which BHA Product for Your Skin Type?
If you deal with acne-prone skin or enlarged pores, salicylic acid (BHA) is heaven-sent for most folks. Oil-soluble, it penetrates more effectively/deeply into the pore than water-soluble AHAs, touting hydrating, antimicrobial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties in addition to exfoliating. But Which BHA Product Is Best for You? 👀 • PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator : $29.50 USD, $0.25 per mL. A cult classic, an international bestseller, a bottle of liquid gold. Water-thin, it contains a couple of humectants, an antioxidant, and 3 preservative/stabilizing ingredients. A super simple INCI list! This makes it especially friendly to many sensitive-skinned folks, as the list of possible skin triggers is small. Some people say the finish feels oily, but I find it intensely hydrating and it soaks in quickly, making it great for combo and dry skin alike! This simple liquid is my pick for enlarged pores and general skin congestion. • NATURIUM - BHA Liquid Exfoliant 2% : $20 USD, $0.17 per mL. Encapsulated salicylic acid and a variety of humectants make this a hydrating exfoliant “toner”, perfect for those with any skin type, with one exception- those with sensitive skin may have issue with the citrus extracts contained, though the producers of the extracts claim they contain mild AHA exfoliant properties. I’d recommend this to any skin type with non-sensitive skin looking for a budget SA product that leaves skin hydrated but not tacky, and helps to keep pores minimized and unclogged. Texture-picky folks on a budget will love this! • THE inkey LIST - Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA) Blemish + Blackhead Serum : $10.99 USD, $0.37 per mL. This is the best BHA for oily skin, featuring a super simple INCI list made up of humectants, stabilizers, salicylic acid, and zinc PCA. Salicylic acid helps to keep pores clear while zinc pca helps to reduce sebum production, though I personally react badly to zinc pca- bumps and itchiness, unfortunately. This product is still one I recommend to friends, as it’s affordable and has minimal chance of triggering skin allergies/sensitivities other than the zinc, with huge potential for those that struggle with acne in general.
Review: the ordinary peeling solution
Everyone has been raving about this product, so I decided to give it a go. I used this product once a week for about 3 months. The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution Benefits: AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution from The Ordinary offers deeper exfoliation to help fight signs of pore congestion and improve skin radiance. The formula also improves the appearance of skin texture and reduces the look of fine lines. My experience: This product worked very well with my skin type (combo/ acne prone). I always used it according to the directions and most of the time felt a bit of a tingle, which is normal. After every use, my skin felt very smooth and looked nice and dewy. This product also helped fade my dark spots and made my acne subside. I found that after a month, I did notice a difference in my pores (appeared a bit smaller). My review: I do like this product! Looking at reviews of the peeling solution, it seems a good amount of people who have sensitive skin found this product to be irritating. My skin can be sensitive, but I’ve never had a problem! The peeling solution was my first experience using a chemical exfoliant and I’m glad I tried it! However, now that I have used PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator I do reach for this one over the peeling solution because I do think it’s a better product. Both of these products are great liquid exfoliants!
Honest Review: Mizon AHA & BHA Daily Clean Toner
Although I’m not that prone to breakouts, I do get a lot of blackheads and whiteheads, especially around my t-zone area. I’ve always had combination skin so while my cheeks are mostly dry, my forehead, nose, and chin tend to get oily when it gets warm and humid. Before, I relied mostly on physical exfoliation and extraction to get the job done. However, that’s not really recommended since it can wear out the skin over time. So when I first found this toner after searching for AHA/BHA products, I was pretty excited. Mizon AHA & BHA Daily Clean Toner promises to prevent all my skin problems–blackheads, whiteheads–and more. It also claims to be able to repair and rejuvenate the skin. Pretty nice, if you ask me. My expectations weren’t really high since this was just a random find, plus I view toners simply as a prepping step before I get into my heavy-duty products. I only have three conditions: It doesn’t make me break out. It doesn’t make me oily. It can be combined with my other skincare products. So, how did this AHA & BHA Daily Clean Toner fare? 💋💋💋💋 4 out of 5 kisses! It’s good enough for daily use (ha!) since it fulfilled pretty much all of my conditions. What I loved the most about this product was how lightweight and gentle it was on my skin. In fact, I had a hard time taking a swatch photo because it almost has the same consistency as plain water. Since it was lightweight, it got absorbed quickly, which meant I could use it in the morning too. In fact, Mizon actually advertises this toner to be used twice a day, for both your AM and PM skincare routine. That’s how gentle it is to the skin. That said, I didn’t really feel like it wasn’t really HG material so after finishing the bottle I chose not to repurchase. Not that there’s anything wrong with it, it’s just that I was still getting the same problems as before. It did help me a bit with the blackheads but I felt like I was better off looking for something else. If you’re interested in this product, you can check it out here on Cherie for only $15.86. How to: GLOWING SKIN✨✨
Let’s face it. There is no real quick fix to get a 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐧 without taking care of it on a daily basis. Wearing sunscreen and supplying your body enough hydration are probably the most important tips we should follow. In this post, I'd like to share my top favorite skincare ingredients that will get you great results even quicker. 𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐮𝐭: 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐀𝐇𝐀 𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞. AHA: Glycolic Acid - effectively removes the outermost layer of dead cells from the complexion, revealing brighter, fresher skin. It is for use for dry to normal skin. Glycolic acid gently removes dead skin cells and also generally well tolerated, even by acne-prone skin. It may not work enough to get rid of acne but it’s a great supplemental product to keep in your vanity. I would recommend starting with 10%-12% and gradually move up to 15%. 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:ALPHA SKIN CARE - Enhanced Renewal Cream Contains 12% Glycolic Acid. Free of oils and fragrances. Helps even skin tone and texture. Contains peptides to help plump & improve skin’s texture. It also has antioxidants, vitamins, and green tea to prevent signs of aging. ( alternative: liquid form, TO Gycolic Toner) 𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐨𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐧: 𝐔𝐬𝐞 𝐁𝐇𝐀 𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬. BHA: Salicylic Acid - they are proven to clear clogged pores and improve bumpy texture. BHAs like salicylic acid is oil soluble. This characteristic allows them to penetrate below the skin’s surface and dive deep into your pores. They can penetrate blocked pores by making their way into the oil glands, dissolving the paste-like mixture of sebum that can lead to breakouts. They are typically safe for use once or twice per day. For home use, maximum strength of 2% is advised. 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator This BHA is in a toner formulation. Make sure to pat dry your skin after washing the face before using this. Concentrate on the areas like the T-zone which is usually more oily. It’s critical to apply a gentle moisturizer before salicylic acid completely dry the top layer of skin to avoid irritation and apply sunscreen if used in the daytime. 𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐜𝐧𝐞: 𝐑𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐨𝐢𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐨. Retinoid: Tretinoin - retinoids like Tretinoin stimulate cell turnover on your skin. Dead skin cells are cleared off your skin more quickly as new skin cells rise to the surface thus, revealing glowing skin. Quicker cell turnover opens your pores, releasing trapped bacteria or irritants. Tretinoin has also been studied extensively for its impact on the visible signs of aging (healthline.com). 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: customized Curology formula, Retin-A, Retino-A, Atralin, Avita, etc. To get the best results with tretinoin, it is necessary to use it properly. Start off with no more than the strength of 0.025% to avoid irritation. In order to reduce the initial flaking/side effects that can accompany the Tretinoin, you can put on a moisturizer before your application. Allow it to sink into the skin completely then apply a pea-sized amount of the cream. Tretinoin can increase your skin's sensitivity to sunlight so be sure to use sunscreen daily!

Texture and hormonal acne be gone!
This is honestly one of my favourite products ever. Not only do I adore the Then I Met You brand and their founder Charlotte, but this product is a ride or die for me. Although I was a bit hesitant at first with Then I Met You’s prices, I had heard Charlotte Cho talk about how this toner had helped her hormonal acne on a podcast. I have recently dealt with a lot of hormonal acne after going off birth control and so I may as well try it. I can definitely say this is worth the investment. I use this every evening and sometimes during the day if it’s my time of the month and I have seen such a difference in the way my skin looks. This along with another acne fighting skincare product have successfully kept my acne at bay for 2 months now. After two months I don’t think I am even half way through the bottle yet. I just put a little amount in my hands (a small puddle the size of a quarter) and then tap it into my skin. The packaging is beautiful and feels expensive, although it does make me nervous to drop it. I seriously hide this behind all my other products so that I know it won’t fall from the cupboard. I haven’t tried any other Then I Met You products but it does make me want to try them all. PS I have combination, acne prone skin :)
Then I met you-Birch Milk Refining Toner
first off i’d like to note that i have: • combo skin; very oily t-zone, normal lower cheeks/jawline • sensitive skin; my skin will show redness, be tingly, or itchy if it doesn’t like something • dehydrated skin depending on the environment/weather i’m in • acne-prone; hormonal acne on the chin • largest pores on earth; excess sebum & blackheads on the nose ETUDE - Etude House SoonJung pH 5.5 Relief Toner having oily but sensitive and sometimes dehydrated skin is a pain when it comes to finding a product that doesn’t clog the pores yet doesn’t suck ALL the oil out of my skin. but after reading reviews, i decided to buy the Etude House - Soon Jung pH 5.5 Relief Toner. i can safely say that i’ll be using this until the day i possibly find a better one. this toner is hydrating but not too moisturizing. the texture is basically like water and once i apply it onto my skin, my skin literally drinks it and then i can just apply a moisturizer and continue on with my day. it has ingredients that actually calm the skin so my sensitive skin loves that. also, it doesn’t irritate my acne nor does it create new ones. i’m currently on my 3rd bottle and i definitely am gonna purchase more :)

bye bye texture ✌🏼
found this toner last year and it’s been a staple in my routine since the beginning. My skin can be sensitive towards toners but I haven’t had any issues with this product. No redness or itchiness. Over the last few months this toner has helped with my acne and scarring but also the overall texture of my skin and my pores are smaller. After using this product the next morning my skin is glowing and looks so smooth. I definitely recommend this product to anyone who is looking to test out chemical exfoliants or looking for a new toner. It is on the pricer side but you will see results.
