Is UD’s shadow primer worth it? Wear test!
What are your thoughts on eyeshadow primers? I really only use them when I’m going out to an event. One of my favorites has been the Urban Decay Shadow Primer Potion URBAN DECAY - Original Eyeshadow Primer Potion

EJ_ratburgerI use the nyx eyeshadow primer everyday and it lasts me forever and I can definitely see that it works and that it stays longer saying that I wear heavy goth eyeshadow under and on my eyes most days and it’s mostly there at the end of the day, and it applies better, but I was wondering if getting a better primer would be a good investment. does anyone know if this is better?

Feeling Golden Today with Tarte 🌟
Today’s mood board aesthetic is brought to you by Tarte’s Chrome Paint Shadow Pot in the shade Park Avenue Princess. tarte - Chrome Paint Shadow Pot This look is my go-to for nights out when I only have 10-15 minutes to get ready. The chrome paint is a powder pot that glides on so effortlessly like a cream! Perfect for finger application in a rush! The pigmentation is amazing and I usually only experience a tiny bit of fallout. Now let’s talk about the photo here—this speaks to me on another level. The Golden vibes and Buddha just calm my mind and take me away from reality...like how easy this look was. The Golden vibes just go together and feel light and “natural” but “elevated natural.” You feel me? I can’t recommend Tarte’s chrome paints enough. They’re $22 per pot but that last FOREVER...and that’s on Tarte. The other products I used here: YSL the shock mascara, Tarte’s so fine eyeliner, Fenty beauty bronzer. Have you used Tarte’s Chrome Paints? What are your thoughts?

Didn’t know I would love this palette!
During the holiday time, I noticed that the Urban Decay Honey palette was on sale at every store for half off. I always wanted this palette, but spending $50 on a palette was a stretch for me. I then realized that UD was doing a mystery bag, so I purchased it.. First off, I love everything I received! One of the items included was the UD Honey palette, and after using it one time I already love it. Haha. Personally, I would recommend this palette to anyone who loves a warmer/golden palette. I know for sure I’ll be using all of the colors in this palette so its completely worth having in my collection. I paired the shadows with the UD primer potion and the shadows lasted all day! Worlds Best Eyeliner? 100% yes! ✨
This it Cosmetics - Superhero Liquid Eyeliner Pen is unlike any of my usual eyeliners! When I say this baby can last day it can! I doy daily makeup look at 7:00am and come home around 4:00pm! The makeup look featured in this picture was about 8 hours old and as you can see the eyeshadow creased however the main star / the eyeliner ... did not! It’s a full black liquid eyeliner with a brush tip that applies like a dream! I do a winged liner look everyday and I need a strong eyeliner to do a flawless look with minimal mistakes. I d my wing free hand since I’ve been doing it for years but I certainly need a good tool to do that! The day I had this look was just a work day - usually I do workout in my makeup since I go straight after work, but not this time. Even though I didn’t go to the gym with this look, l bet it will last through the workout session. For reference, I gave oily combo skin and have a light to medium skin tone. Since I also have oily eye lids I need to put an eye primer on as well. Like I said I love me a good eyeliner and this is one to be on the look out for! It retails for $24.00 but it will last you a good six months. I so recommend this eyeliner to anyone trying to get the best wing look with the best eyeliner! I started using my eyeliner a month ago and I can’t wait to keep using it everyday until it dries. Let me know if you have used this eyeliner before? 😉

Old vs New Primer: Nyx to Too Faced
Nyx is a go-too brand for many people who want to play with color at a low cost. Since 2012, I remember watching Youtubers layer the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk as an eyeshadow primer. Since it’s white, it helps make bright colors like blues and oranges pop. But since I bought one, I ended up not liking it that much. I have very oily eyelids, and Milk started bunching up in my crease throughout the day. Even when I put eyeshadow over it, it would just bunch that eyeshadow, too. Plus, it’s a little bit too thick for a primer. Another problem: It didn’t look good with natural makeup. Which makes sense! You can use white to play with bold colors. But if your looks are mostly soft browns, it’s not gonna match. So I started a search for a better primer, and I found the best one: The Too Faced Shadow Insurance Primer. First of all, it looks like a natural skin tone. When you blend it in, it turns almost translucent, so you have a natural base to layer shadow on. Second, it feels like a light cream, not a paste. Which feels better for an area as sensitive as the eyes. Thirdly, and most importantly, it lasts! My eyelids never crease with this primer, even if I got up at 7 AM and went to bed at midnight. As you can see in the photo, my Shadow Insurance is well loved. And this is actually my third tube of it. It’s paid off to give me years of beautiful, intact eyeshadow looks. After some trial and error, I’m glad I made the switch.

Beauty Superlatives - Eye Look
I present you My Eye Look Awards! These are of some of my top rated items that I love and constantly repurchase. Let’s begin with the best eyeliner tarte - Limited-edition Clay Pot Waterproof Shadow Liner ! This gel eyeliner is such a lovely jet black color with smooth texture! I do say that this is best for those who are comfortable applying with a brush and/or drawing their own wing. I used this years ago but at the time it was $21.00 on Tarte.com and rarely went on sale so I had to find cheaper alternatives. But more recently Tarte has been hosting sales and this liner comes down to only $10.00! It’s awesome and at that price it’s a steal. It has super longwear and once it’s on it does not budge! And because the product is in the pot, it will last you a long time since you don’t need to use that much product. Next, we have the best eye primer MAC - Pro Longwear Paint Pot Eyeshadow in shade Painterly! This is best applied with your finger and then on to the eyelid! I have oily eyelids and I feel like this baby here holds the eyeshadows in place with minimal creasing. Since I typically wear makeup for 8-9 hours a day, I need to have a hardcore primer. It retails for $22.00 but once again a little goes a long way and it will be in your collection for a good time. This Painterly pot can be used as a base, transition shade, or can be mixed with other products. There are six shades ranging from taupes or neutrals. I got mine at Ulta and used points to make the price go down. Finally, best eyeshadow duo are these MAC - MAC Matte Eyeshadow in shades Honey Lust and Expensive Pink. This my 2nd refill for HL and 3rd refill for EP. Each eyeshadow refill retails for $7.00, however MAC has many sales where you get the case for the shadows for free with the purchase of the two eyeshades. In the second picture, you’ll see the swatches and how neutral and elegant they look. I mainly wear Expensive Pink to work and Honey Lust on the weekends. Paired along with the MAC Painterly Pot and you get an amazing look! I am usually not too big on MAC but these eyeshadows and primer are 100% and I recommend you check them out!

Is the MAC Paint Pot worth it? *wear test
What are your thoughts on eyeshadow primers? Honestly for a long time I thought they were useless. I mostly just applied a glitter powder eyeshadow to my lids and called it a day. I heard a lot of hype about the MAC Paint Pots: MAC - Pro Longwear Paint Pot Eyeshadow so I decided to invest in the lighter matte shade closest to my skin tone: Soft Ochre. Keyword: matte—most of the shades in this range, like the popular “painterly” are SHIMMER formulas which...why tho??? The point of eyeshadow primers is to limit creasing, extend wear time, and protect your shadow against oils that your eyelid produces during the day (everyone’s lids sweat!). I have pretty sensitive eyes so I have to be careful of what I put on them—I can use a liquid eyeshadow if I leave it far away enough from my lash line & prep with an eye cream first, but what would happen if I added a primer on top of that? Let’s do a wear test! Application—8:30 AM: Today is a work day so I usually don’t wear any eye makeup, but I wanted to look a lil fancy since I am forced to wear a mask while I work! I did not apply mascara, I’m still looking for a formula that doesn’t burn my eyes. I dabbed the primer on MY RIGHT eye (see photos) and remembered that I needed to blend it quickly—it dries down in like 10 seconds! I thank myself for choosing to wear a liquid shadow formula. I apply the liquid shadow—Stila’s Glitter & Go formula stila - Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow across my entire lid into my crease. I have hooded eyes so I don’t mind if there is a hard stop, as it won’t be visible unless my eyes are closed. I keep my eyes closed until the formula is completely dry (3-5 mins) and head to work! External forces: Toward the end of my day I experienced some glitter fallout from my non-primed eye. It happens with this formula as it contains chunky glitters. So my usual suggestion would be to only wear this for a few hours at a time without a primer! But the primed side stayed strong. Wear test complete—4:30 PM: I get home from work to asses the damage. I am VERY surprised to see that the primed side looks almost exactly the same as it did this morning! The non-primed side had some fallout and glitter loss while the primed side kept it all in place. My eyes only felt a little dry at the end of the day which I attribute to the eye cream—this is a VERY matte formula. Final thoughts: I think this is a great shadow base to protect your shadow from eyelid oils and for longevity. I do not think this would be good to use for cut creases, as it dries down almost immediately. If you have SUPER OILY eyelids this is the primer for you! Rating: 4/5. This is just too drying to me to use without an eye cream underneath.

Which eyeshadow primer is worth it?
Preface: I used to be obsessed with makeup. I’d do a full face every single morning! So I have a stockpile of products in many categories, luxury and drugstore/affordable. Ask me questions in the comments if you want to know more about either of these products! Products: J.Cat Beauty - All About That Base Shadow Primer URBAN DECAY - Original Eyeshadow Primer Potion Price point: JCat: $4.99 for .35oz UD: $24 for .37oz Scent: JCat: smells heavily of chemicals, fades throughout the day. UD: has a “stale” scent, maybe similar to clay but not chemically. This one dissipates as you cover it up. Texture: JCat: “Goopy,” but easily spreadable and doesn’t dry down super fast so you have time to work with it. On the thinner side. UD: Kind of goopy but more of a thick “I will fill in your lines & pores” texture. Doesn’t dry down easily & IMO must be set with a neutral shadow. Color: JCat: This is a warmer shimmer base that I like to use for cutting my crease or as an all over base for more shimmer shadows. I would say it is more golden than champagne. UD: This is pretty versatile in that when it’s worked in it becomes translucent. However I can use it cut my crease as well, I just need to use another shadow/shimmer on top of it to set it in place. Wearability/longevity: JCat: this is very easily broken down by the natural oils your eyelids produce. Washes off easily with soap & water, is not waterproof by any means. UD: this definitely has a super long wear time especially if you set it with a neutral powder. I do have hooded eyes so I notice creasing but I don’t mind it as you never see the creases. My experiences: So I have used both of these as an all over base and a tool to cut my crease. While I really love the JCat shimmer base as a one step product to cut my crease, it doesn’t have a very long wear time, maybe a few hours at most. So it’s great for events! But if I need my shadow to last all day I usually go with the Urban Decay primer. Overall: This is a tough one because I like both of these products! The Urban Decay just has a longer wear time and is more versatile. Honestly, both products are worth it! I would recommend both of them, they just have different occasions and situations they could be used for and work fine.

My favourite eyeshadows
Here are three of my favourite eyeshadow products that I would like to recommend: 1.M.A.C Eye Shadow - Fashion’s Field Day This is a single pressed eyeshadow from M.A.C. I like this one because the colour is so special. Basically, it’s a beautiful pinky coral shade eyeshadow with a pearly finish, but it has a fine golden shimmer that creates a kind of frost eyeshadow look. It’s not that strong reflective and iridescent shimmer so it can still be very natural for day-to-day use. The texture is a little bit dry but acceptable and the pigmentation is good. It applies evenly on my eyelid and blends very well. 2.COLOURPOP Super Shock Shadow Ultra-Glitter - DGAF I would highly recommend this single eyeshadow if you are looking for a shimmer eyeshadow with glitters. I really love this unique bouncy texture of COLOURPOP. It’s so creamy, so soft and so smooth. Only one swipe is needed to deliver an intense pigmentation. The best tool to apply this eyeshadow is your fingers. And this shade DGAF is the best seller. It has warm-toned brown shade and with many golden glitters to create a multi-dimensional look. 3.CHANEL Multi-effect Quadra Eyeshadow - 268 This is my favourite eyeshadow palette of my whole collection. This palette has four shades that contain three shades of brown and a beautiful warm red shade, and all four shades are matte. The colour combination is exactly for a fall makeup look, and the warm red shade recalls me maple leaves. The texture is not that dry as many other matte eyeshadows especially the red one. The colour is buildable and well-blended on my eyelids.
