Key ingredients: The Inkey List Sea Kelp Serum

You may or may not have seen a ton of hype about this product on Instagram. THE inkey LIST - Sea Kelp Serum
It costs $10 and has 2 highlighted ingredients: sea kelp extract and a malachite mineral complex. It’s a pretty simple ingredient list so I thought I would test it out in my routine for a couple of weeks. The ingredient claims: -Sea kelp extract: reduce and protect the skin from environmental pollutants -Malachite mineral complex: detoxify skin & deliver antioxidants It’s a lightweight serum advertised to work on all skin types for anti-aging benefits. Unfortunately this serum really set off my skin. When I’m trying to new product I use a basic routine full of products I know don’t irritate my skin so I KNOW the new product is the culprit. This caused a series of tiny bumps around my eye area and whiteheads on my forehead which is so random. I also must mention the smell...god, it’s awful. It smells like dirt, very earthy but in the worst way. When I used this serum I applied it after my hyaluronic acid serum but before any facial oils or moisturizers. Honestly if you have tough skin and aren’t sensitive to natural ingredients this will probably work great for you. It’s $10 for 1oz so you won’t be losing a lot of money if you end up not liking it, but it’s risky if you’re more on the sensitive skin train like me. I have to rate it 2/5 stars for my overall experience, however the price point is good and it absorbs well into the skin. Another product that did not live up to the hype.

The Inky List
Have you tried @theinkeylist If not, you’re missing out! . I decided to explore this brand when I took a look at their price point and ingredients. You can’t go wrong when not a single product is over $15!!! The founders believed that skincare should be accessible for everyone as well as easy to navigate and understand. All products are easy to understand and clearly state what they can do for you. I also like that they explain what products to avoid mixing together. . I started with Hyaluronic Acid - $8 - and found the formula to be okay. It’s not my favorite, @deciem formula is actually my favorite, but either one is a great option. I think I just prefer the dropper better over the squeeze bottle of The Inky List. I end up with too much coming out at times. But the hydration this gives me is A+. My face feels and looks instantly dewy. That healthy glow! ✨ If you don’t have HA in your life, you’re missing out! . Next up I ordered their Retinol - $10 - but only just started using it consistently. It’s a very easy formula to work with and I layer on the lotion after to make sure I have no issues with irritation. I’ve had a few small breakouts but nothing crazy. I plan to use something stronger after I finish this. . See yesterday’s post regarding the Sea Kelp - $10 . And I just picked up the eye cream Caffeine - $10 - . I got it initially for my husband. He has serious eye bags and I wanted to put this to the test but he isn’t cooperating with me. I gave it to my daughter to try as I am still working through my @farmacybeauty Cheer Up. She has dark circles and puffy eyes so I’m anxious to hear her thoughts. . What do you use from The Inky List? What should I try next? . Happy hump day! 🌼

I’m about to empty my Propolis
I’m about to empty my Propolis Vitamin Synergy Serum from Iunik and I think it’s finally time I share my experience and thoughts. This serum contains propolis and sea buckthorn extracts that help soothe and nourish the skin. It also claims to calm and brighten the skin with niacinamide and adenosine. This is said to be for Dry and Sensitive skin types however I find that this works great on my Oily skin as well. I really like its viscosity, it’s slightly thick but lightweight (if that makes sense haha) and it spreads easily on the skin. I usually apply it after my essence. It’s not oily/sticky as long as you apply the right amount and it absorbs just fine! I also appreciate the end of the dropper. It’s designed to be applied directly on the face in convenience. I had no problems with its packaging ~ it’s a clear glass bottle and I love how I can see how much product is inside. My skin has a thing for propolis and I can’t wait to try more products! 💛✨

Jamie+Grant Blue Balancing Face Oil
Jamie+Grant Blue Balancing Face Oil
Jamie+Grant is this brand owned by entrepreneur mom India! She reached out to me on instagram to send me her ‘Milk Peel Sleeping Mask’ which is a lactic acid serum but she also included this Blue Balancing Face Oil. This oil is bomb! I use it as a spot treatment with my Blume ‘Meltdown’ to kick acnes ass. This oil has resveratrol which has shown anti-fungal and anti-bacterial activity. Specifically activity against P. acnes, the bacteria that causes acne. While benzoyl peroxide provides short term bacterial response, resveratrol showed a significant inhibition of growth over time. I love the science behind products and what makes them work and why. This Balancing Oil works wonders when combined with the natural oils in Meltdown, it’s a match made in heaven After cleansing and toning, apply evenly to the spot then follow with moisturizer. I would give this a 4/5 only because it does make the area applied to a bit tacky but I use it right before bed so I don’t care as much. I think this would be great for anyone looking for a acne spot treatment

✨Good Molecules✨ Niacinamide Serum
✨Good Molecules✨ Niacinamide Serum
The function of the Good Molecules Niacinamide Serum is to help minimize the appearance of pores and even skin tone. It also helps skin tone appear brighter. The formula is a water-based serum that feels light and non-sticky. I used about 2-3 times a week when I was first gifted it by the company for review. I wanted to see if it worked. After the first week I had already noticed that my skin was less red, my pores appeared smaller, and my overall skin tone appeared more smooth. One of my concerns was my larger pores on my nose and after a few uses they appear smaller and smoother. I like this serum because it’s simple to use and feels light. The packaging is also simple and the dropper is easy to use. The retail price is only $6.00 which is amazing for the results. I would highly recommend this serum if you want to help minimize the appearance of pores. It is also a great serum to use before makeup application as it makes the makeup look flawless. The Ordinary’s Azelaic Acid Su
The Ordinary’s Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% is the kind of product I can’t be without, because my skin will look worse after a few days. Azelaic acid is also the most underrated ingredient out there. At least in my opinion. It’s an active that brightens the skin, helps with spots and inflammation, helps with redness and can even help with skin texture (that one will take time though). Unlike other acids, azelaic acid is suitable for sensitive skin: It will even help with rosacea (Skinoren and other 20% formulations are a common rosacea treatment, prescription only though). Let’s talk personal experience: My skin didn’t get brighter, I use loads of vitamin C though, so my skin was “bright” to begin with. It might help you with that, who knows! Then why do I love it so much? Azelaic acid was the one product that finally got rid of those annoying small bumps on my chin and cheeks that never quite turned into pimples but also never quite disappeared. Azelaic acid also makes my skin look so much calmer and less red. I ran out of it once and three days later my skin was bumpy and red again. Apart from plumping serums, no other product has such an immediate effect on my skin! Warning: it’s super silicone-y. I know that many people avoid silicones. I was actually one of them for years. Guess what changed that? Yup, also azelaic acid. I was super scared of silicone blocking my pores and giving me more bumps, so I completely avoided it. After using a few The Ordinary products, I really wanted to try azelaic acid though, it sounded so promising. After lots of back and forth I finally did. When my pores didn’t get blocked and my skin didn’t break out I slowly introduced other silicone-containing products and realised that I don’t react to any of them. Thanks azelaic acid!

Leo Oil by @leowithcancer on Instagram/leooil.me
Leo Oil by @leowithcancer on Instagram/leooil.me
I've been following Dena @leowithcancer on Instagram for quite a while, and you can't follow her for long without finding out about her handmade skincare products business where she makes and sells the instagram (or skinstagram, rather) cult favorite product Leo Oil (that I have pictured) as well as several other things as well (you can find and purchase these by going to the website leooil.me or astroils.com - both go to the same place)! Now that I've introduced the product, let me tell you why I love it. First of all, Dena never makes any actual claims about Leo Oil, BUT the ingredients used to formulate each bottle are shared publicly (meadowfoam seed oil, rosehip seed oil, & blue tansy oil) and are known to "act as a moisturizer that also treats & heals irritated skin." I, personally, use it as the very last step of my nighttime routine to seal in moisture and to help relieve any irritation. Also, I and many others (according to Dena when asked about responses from Leo Oil users) have found Leo Oil to be quite beneficial and helpful for treating acne! Blue tansy oil (one of the ingredients in Leo Oil) is "a powerful anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory," says Dena when asked if Leo Oil helps with acne at all. The texture is that of a standard skincare oil, and I've also included a photo of what a few drops of the oil looks like so you can see its texture & color. I've been using Leo Oil for months and have been in love with it ever since I first started using it. I don't hesitate to give it a full 5-star rating. I would and do most definitely recommend this oil to anyone and everyone; even those with oily skin can benefit from having an oil in their skincare routine! Lastly, the price may seem a bit high to some people, but if you keep in mind the fact that each bottle is handmade and hand-packed and shipped, I think you'll agree with my opinion that the price of Leo Oil and all of Dena's products are quite reasonable after all. I hope you now see why Leo Oil is my fave oil for acne & overall! 😌
