🍉Downsize those pores🍉Gentle PHA + BHA Toner
🍉Downsize those pores🍉Gentle PHA + BHA Toner
GLOW RECIPE - Watermelon Glow PHA+BHA Pore-Tight Toner Glow recipe gets a lot of hype! I mean a LOT! And yes I admit it I’ve jumped on the bandwagon 🙋‍♀️. But only after trying products and enjoying them and having good experiences. Yes their packaging is SO cute but what really matters is the ingredients, cause b***h they don’t lie! Ingredients: Opuntia Ficus-Indica (Cactus) Extract, Citrullus Lanatus (Watermelon) Fruit Extract, Glycerin, Hyaluronic Acid, Gluconolactone, Sodium Polyglutamate, Betaine Salicylate, Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Extract, Hibiscus Sabdariffa Flower Extract, Lactobacillus/Watermelon Fruit Ferment Extract, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Saccharum Officinarum (Sugarcane) Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Paeonia Suffruticosa Root Extract, Brassica Oleracea Capitata (Cabbage) Leaf Extract, Ipomoea Batatas Root Extract, Sorbitan Oleate, Levulinic Acid, Sodium Levulinate, Fragrance/Parfum ⭐️Key Ingredients⭐️ 🌵Cactus Water: being the first and most prevalent ingredient in the formula, this makes this toner not dry the s*** outta my face! Contains electrolytes and amino acids to help skin retain moisture. It also gives it that satisfying goopy gloppy texture. 🍉Watermelon Extract: Amino rich - hydrates, soothes, + improves appearance of fine lines + wrinkles 👩‍🔬Gluconolactone - a PHA - helps to resurface and smooth skin, while also removing buildup of dead skin cells. A very gentle gradual exfoliant that is great for sensitive skin types. 👩‍🔬BHAs - The formula includes 2 types of BHA: Willow Bark, a gentle, natural source of BHA, as well as sugarcane, birch, + royal azalea tree-derived Betaine Salicylate. One of the most effective ingredients for decongestant pores and reducing appearance of pores + blackheads. 💦Hyaluronic Acid - this helps deliver + lock in hydration so the formula is not drying or stripping to the skin This does contain less than 0.5% fragrance** 🍉My Experience🍉 I honestly love this product. I have been using the 40ml bottle (smaller one) since the begging of august and still have about 40% remaining. I use this am + pm because it’s gentle enough to do that for my skin (unless you’re using another strong exfoliating treatment or strong retinol). I have seen improvements in the texture of my skin + it has decongested my face a lot. Being someone that hasn’t taken care of their skin for, well, like 26 years out of my 27 year old life, there’s a lot of texture + gunk built up + work to be done. This is not a product that will fix your skin in a week, but I am confident that it is something I will keep in my skin care arsenal as it is good for my skin, it is a great preventative treatment to reduce the chances of pore buildup in the future. I am a strong believer in SLOW, consistent results over immediate results that can have negative consequences sometimes.

💊Hydrating Niacinamide Serum💊
💊Hydrating Niacinamide Serum💊
Awake - Glow Pill I started using this around June after I got it in an Ipsy bag. That was the beginning of my skin care journey + my budget was tight so I decided to use this since it’s rich in Niacinamide + hyaluronic acid. Ingredients Water/Aqua/Eau, niacinamide, propanediol, glycerin, glycereth-26, 1,2-hexanediol, panthenol, C12-14 pareth-12, carbomer, caprylyl glycol, betaine, trehalose, ethylhexylglycerin, acetyl glucosamine, sodium hyaluronate, disodium EDTA, xylitol, hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid, hydrolyzed sodium hyaluronate, sodium hyaluronate crosspolymer, hydroxypropyltrimonium hyaluronate, hydrolyzed glycosaminoglycans, benzyl glycol, tocopherol, hyaluronic acid, raspberry ketone They don’t share the concentration of Niacinamide, but it is listed second so one can assume it will give the benefits one usually sees from Niacinamide. There’s also hydrating ingredients like propanediol glycerin panthenol 4 (maybe 5, can’t tell lol) different molecular weights of hyaluronic acid to penetrate and hydrate at different levels within the skin barrier AND it’s FRAGRANCE-FREE! ✨ 🙋‍♀️My opinion after using an entire bottle🙋‍♀️ Awake - Glow Pill So I had kind of high expectations because the ingredients list seemed pretty solid to me. I definitely enjoyed this serum a lot. I applied it on damp skin after cleansing +/or toning. The packaging is really cute ❤️ The texture is super lightweight, a little thicker than water. It doesn’t sting upon application & soaks in well. It is hydrating but Not to the point where I could never use it as a moisturizer (which the brand recommends for oily skin🤯) Results? My skin texture has improved over the past 4 months, but that could also be due to my other skin care products. I don’t think this serum did a whole lot for me. It was something I had & it didn’t cause a negative reaction (TY fragrance-free🙌.) so I guess might as well finish it. I think there are definitely more hydrating serums out there as well as stronger Niacinamide serums that can provide more improvements with skin texture, pores + hydration. If you can grasp it cheap through Etsy or boxy charm I’d say it’s worth a try, but I’m not the most impressed 🙍‍♀️If it wasn’t $39, I would probably repurchase. Photo credit, Ipsy. I do not own this photo. My camera on my phone broke

When your skin literally looks like an 🍊 peel..
When your skin literally looks like an 🍊 peel..
🍊Orange Peel Skin? Wtf? ”Orange Peel Skin” is referring to a texture of the skin - when pores appear large, more dimpled, + even lax/droopy. People with this texture (🙋‍♀️) can never get makeup to look right! 🍊What causes it? SUM DAMAGE ☀️🔥🆘 - caused by years of unprotected exposure to UV rays. Sun damage promotes + speeds up the aging process of our skin. Slowing down the production of collagen + elastin, the stuff that is the glue holding our pores together, causes pores to appear larger and saggy or stretched. 🧐AGE - Aging affects our skins production of collagen + elastin in the same way as sun damage. They slow down. Derms say this usually starts happening in our 20s + we need to take preventative care starting then. Aging also slows our cell turnover rate, making it likely that cells will build up around the pores, enhancing their shadows and making them appear larger 💦DEHYDRATION/Compromised skin barrier -!Dehydration is just plain bad for the skin, obviously. But when our skin is in this condition, our sebaceous glands overproduce, leaving a cellophane-like, rough+shiny sheen to our skin - increasing the appearance of texture + pores. 👩‍🔬What can we do? Remember that actual pore size is fully determined by genetics, and pores do not shrink or close or open. However, there are steps we can take to reduce the appearance of pores ☺️ 💦Hydrate + Moisturize - use hydrating serums & moisturizers with good ingredients like Hyaluronuc Acid, Glycerin, ceramides, peptides, oils with omega fatty acids, panthenol, aloe, + great occlusives to lock in that moisture 💪Retinol - using an OTC or prescription strength retinol will increase the rate of skin cell turnover. Meaning you will speed up the process of shedding those dead skin cells and pushing all the gunk in your skin + to the surface to leave. This leaves behind healthier, plumper, less damaged skin. Make sure you use retinols safely! ✨Exfoliating Treatments - Using a mild exfoliating leave on treatment in toner or serum form every day or using stronger wash off treatments 1-3x a week will smooth out texture. Using a combination of AHA or PHA with BHA will be effective as they work on different levels of our skin. 🐄Collagen Supplements - because the loss of collagen is at least partially responsible for orange peel skin, replenishing collagen levels in our body will plump skin. Collagen is too large of a molecule to penetration the epidermis when applied topically, thus to reap benefits taken supplements is the most effective way to encourage collagen production Products I use- GLOW RECIPE - Watermelon Glow PHA+BHA Pore-Tight Toner GLOW RECIPE - Avocado Melt Retinol Sleeping Face Mask SATURDAY SKIN - Bright Potion Probiotic Power Serum PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator HERBIVORE - Prism 20% AHA + 5% BHA Exfoliating Glow Facial

👩‍🔬Niacinamide: an in depth review of this OG⭐
👩‍🔬Niacinamide: an in depth review of this OG⭐
So we’ve all heard of this OG queen Niacinamide by now, but why is she a Holy grail ingredient that everyone should try incorporating in their skin care routine? The hype around Niacinamide is rooted in scientific research and is 100% real. So here’s an in depth look at what Niacinamide is, how it functions + research backed benefits it packs with a punch. 👩‍🔬Who is she?👩‍🔬 Niacinamide is a specific form of Vitamin B3, AKA Nicotinamide. Not the same as Niacin, which is an acidic form of Vitamin B3. 💦An essential water soluble vitamin that is NOT synthesized within our body, thus it must be ingested or applied topically for us to reap the benefits 👩‍🔬Science👩‍🔬 Niacinamide’s main benefits are due to its ability to promote + increase the production of ceramides + elastin, thus strengthening our skin barrier. Niacinamide can (magically) repair + restore damage to the cellular DNA in our skin. After penetrating the skin, N is converted into Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD). NAD has potent free radical-fighting + antioxidant properties. This helps our skin to restore cellular energy + repair damaged DNA (from aging, acne, sun exposure etc). DNA damage occurs invisibly over time in response to environmental pollution + UV exposure. By increasing NAD levels in our skin, Niacinamide decreases oxidative cellular damage within skin cells. It can subdue the immunosuppressive effects that sunny rays have on our skin. 💦STRENGTHENS THE SKIN BARRIER💪 Promotes the production of ceramides + elastin - both vital components of a health skin barrier that are responsible for keeping moisture in + harmful things like bacteria + free radicals out. Dr Jennifer Herrmann, MD, refers to N’s role in our skin health as “a well oiled machine” - working to fight off both internal + external stressors that lead to the breakdown of our skin + signs of aging. 🍕REGULATES OIL PRODUCTION By strengthening our SB, N helps regulate + stabilize oil production. So, using N is a great preventative measure to take to prevent excess sebum build-up/clogged pores which indefinitely lead to comedonal or inflammatory acne 🍊IMPROVES TEXTURE + FINE LINES Since N promotes the production of ceramides + elastin within our SB, it also helps keep our lipid barrier intact + healthy. Ceramides + elastin plump up the skin, smoothing texture and fine lines ☀️EVENS SKIN TONE + REDUCES HYPERPIGMENTATION Again, the scientific community is not exactly sure how, but research shows that N is thought to inhibit the transfer of melanosomes (the things that house + produce darker melanin pigments) throughout our skin, thus resulting in diminished appearance of dark + brown spots on skin 👩‍🔬Usage guidelines👩‍🔬 Derms recommend Niacinamide for ALL skin types Research-backed benefits seen at percentages as low as 5%! Is compatible with almost all other active ingredients ~ fun fact most skin care ingrdnts work 10x better when paired with others (in a safe manner of course)

✨Pore Minimizing AM Routine for Combo/dry Skin✨
✨Pore Minimizing AM Routine for Combo/dry Skin✨
Hi lovely beautiful people ☀️❤️ Today I want to share the AM skincare routine I’ve been using for awhile now, with the exception of the THE inkey LIST - Oat Cleansing Balm that I just got my hands on 4 days ago. I truly believe I am seeing great results and would love to hear what y’all think 😛 My skin type: Slightly sensitive, combination skin more on the dry side My skin concerns ❌Uneven texture, on my cheeks and nose primarily ❌Large pore appearance and gunk built up in my pores ❌Mild breakouts + blackheads ❌Severe wrinkles between eyebrows and on forehead as well as around my mouth for only being 27 ...so basically everything lol 🌸 1 🌸 THE inkey LIST - Oat Cleansing Balm I ❤️❤️❤️ this CB. Before I got this gem 4 days ago I was using the HERBIVORE - Pink Cloud Rosewater + Tremella Creamy Jelly Cleanser as my morning cleanse (as well as my 2nd cleanse at night) and I think it worked beautifully, but my main goal is to improve my skin texture right now and in order to do that I need to break down the gunk that’s built up over the years. But I also need to repair my moisture barrier, so I wanted to use this super nourishing cleansing balm as my AM cleanse. I really feel it smoothing out and gently buffing my skin when I massage. I run it gently into my skin for at least 8 minutes. I always get that satisfying feeling of feeling gunk coming out when I cleanse with this. Also there are great emulsifiers in this formula so it rinses off of the skin completely + beautifully. After I rinse this off, cue... 🍉2🍉 GLOW RECIPE - Watermelon Glow PHA+BHA Pore-Tight Toner I think this toner is so unique and awesome I’m so many ways. it has this gloopy jelly like texture when the product is picked up. A little goes a long way! I bought the small size and have more than 70% left after 6+ weeks of use. This has amazing ingredients like cactus water, watermelon, PHAs, BHA (from willow bark), hyaluronic acid + more. It exfoliates but EVER so gently, I use it am + pm, except on days where I use more intensive exfoliating treatments or retinol. 👩‍🔬3👩‍🔬 While my skin is damp from applying the toner I go in with Awake - Glow Pill serum. It contains Niacinamide as the second ingredient, as well as several different molecular weights of hyaluronic acid. 🍒3🍒 FARMACY - Very Cherry Bright 15% Clean Vitamin C Serum with Acerola Cherry is what I apply after the glow pill. This stuff smells amazing like cherries! Just started it 2 weeks ago so no results so far but I love the formula and texture. 💦4💦 FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Face Moisturizer I LOVE this! It’s a lighter version of the ultra repair cream. It’s amazing ☀️SPF☀️ COOLA - Mineral Face SPF30 Matte Cucumber I love this as it mattifies my skin but not too much. It blurs my pores a bit as well.

Over-exfoliated? Redness? Soothe your skin in 10
FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Instant Oatmeal Mask I used this mask for the first time after my skin was sooo itchy from (most likely) over exfoliating. I put this on after cleansing my face and letting my skin dry. My skin DRANK this up 💦💦💦 it’s a quick 10 minute mask that helps repair + soothe the skin. Within 4 minutes most of the mask had absorbed into my skin and it felt so soothing. So I lathered on another layer, waited then rinsed this baby off. My skin felt so refreshed. The itching stopped immediately! I would recommend this to honestly any skin type, especially sensitive + eczema prone skin. It has high concentrations of colloidal oatmeal, proven to be a superhero for skin. Need some TLC for your beautiful skin?! Try it out!

Let’s Chat: Fox Eye Trend 👀 💬
Let’s Chat: Fox Eye Trend 👀 💬
How far is too far? 🤔 (❗️PSA: I do not speak for the entire Asian community. This is to further current discussions about this trend that have sparked recently❗️) 👀In the first pic, on the left is me with no makeup. And on the right is from a plastic surgery Instagram account. 👀 ❕Background: ❕ As an Asian-American, I have had comments and negative remarks made about my eyes. Whether it be someone pulling back their eyes, asking if I can see properly, etc. As many other Asians have as well unfortunately. Especially with the recent racist rhetoric & assaults against East Asians due to COVID-19, there are important conversations happening to address racism against Asians. 💬While upturned/slanted, almond shape, and Monolid eyes are not exclusive to Asians these are characteristics that are often associated with those of Asian descent—particularly East Asian. (Also, those who aren’t Asian who have more upturned eyes often receive comments saying they have Asian eyes although they are not.) SO, the Fox Eye trend...👀👀👀 🔍When someone pulls back their eyes or exaggerates their makeup (and sometimes have surgery) so their eyes appear smaller & slanted/upturned. 🖋While appreciating other people’s beauty is always a wonderful thing, there is a line between appropriation & appreciation. ❕And the biggest difference (IMO) is the difference between how people are treated. Example: Why are East Asians being treated differently and called “ch*nky” for having naturally slanted eyes and non-Asians being praised for either pulling back their eyes for a selfie or getting surgery to make their eyes slanted? (This can be applied to many other BIPOC as well! We’ve seen, especially in recent years BIPOC features being turned into beauty trends ⬇️ see below) Naming this trend the “Fox Eye Trend” is similar to how people are now saying anyone with big lips has “Kylie Jenner Lips.” #doublestandard 🙄 🦊Why the Fox Eye Trend is a Negative Beauty Trend: 1. The motion of pulling back your eyes was a common bullying tactic to mock Asian features 2. There is historical background as to why Asians have been discriminated against based on their eyes. 3. The Fox Eye Trend is an example of appropriation. Our eyes are not a ‘trend.’ It is objectifying and contributes to the commodification of people’s features. 4. There are people in the Asian community who are uncomfortable and hurt by this trend ❕And if these reasons aren’t good enough! Pulling back your eyes, isn’t great for your skin. Especially since the skin around the eyes is so thin & fragile. ❕ 👀Would love to hear any thoughts in the comments! ‼️Graphics are from @dearasianyouth + @impact on Instagram. This serum seriously does it ALL 👏🏽
This serum seriously does it ALL 👏🏽
I love a good serum, seriously.. (it’s a problem 🙈) This serum from Purito is my absolute fave! It is a great multitasker, super affordable, and is made of super high quality formulations. It’s also PERFECT for sensitive skin, those with weakened skin barriers, or have dry flakey skin because it’s combination of ingredients that rebuild your barrier. This serum in unscented 🙌🏽 which is somewhat hard to find these days, and delivers a powerful skin cocktail without any irritating essential oils or harsh synthetic fragrances. Not only does this serum help reduce some of my inflamed acne that comes around my monthly hormone surge, but it also helps repair the dark spots left on my skin. This serum is going to be a staple in my routine for forever because it simply does it all! PURITO - Centella Unscented Serum Main power players ⬇️ 1. Niacinamide 2. Ceramide NP 3. Sodium Hyaluronate 4. Asiaticoside, Asiatic Acid, Madecassic Acid, 5. Peptide4 6. Panthenol 7. Adenosine

Straight from the pros!
Straight from the pros!
Here are some really good tips and advice straight from dermatologists 💖 Deal with dryness at night 🌙 If you wake up with super dry skin in the morning, change your bedtime routine, not your morning one. It’s much easier to treat and deal with dryness at night than is during the day ☀️ The ☀️ is responsible for the pesky fine lines on our faces. 90% of fine lines are caused by sun exposure so that makes sunscreen the #1 HERO ingredient for younger looking skin. Start wearing sunscreen early. I wish I could turn back time and use sunscreen from my teens on!! Hair line breakouts bothering you? If you are breaking out along your hairline it could be from the oil on your scalp and the oil from your hair products. A foaming face wash cuts through all that oil without being too harsh. Blackheads 😩 Blackheads hate salicylic acid!! Salicylic Acid is really only ideal for blackheads and whiteheads. If it tends to dry you out, look for a face wash that has it in it and let it sit on your face for 30 seconds. Puffy eyes? One helpful tip for these is add an extra pillow under your head while you sleep . Gravity drains enough fluid to help with next-day puffiness. Ashy skin. If you have ashy skin, don’t towel dry after a bath or a shower. Instead, apply moisturizer while your skin is damp. Creams seal in hydration and work best with a little water. CHECK YOUR SKIN REGULARLY ‼️‼️ Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the U.S., affecting one in five Americans in their lifetime. Almost 20 Americans die from melanoma DAILY 😢 Whej melanoma is found early though, it’s highly treatable! It is important to check your skin regularly for new spots, spots that are different from other spots on your body, or moles that itch, bleed or change color, as these are often early warning signs of skin cancer. If you notice any suspicious spots, make an appointment to see a board-certified dermatologist. Drink less alcohol. Alcohol is rough on the skin. It dehydrates the skin, and in time, damages the skin. This can make us look older well before it’s even necessary 😩 Avoid Hot Water! 💦 Try not to take hot showers or wash your face with hot water. This can dry out your skin and work against the products you are using to hydrate. Hope some of these helped ❤️ ***Pulled from interviews with different dermatologists***

Let’s talk PATRICK TA - Major Brow Shaping Wax in CLEAR! Making it short & sweet 🖤 Game changer! I’ve used brow soaps, gels, wax’s - nothing compares! I will say there are other products with BETTER hold but for what this is... it doesn’t clump or ruin my foundation. It’s pretty light and maleable throughout the day if you want to touch up. Love this for everyday looks and it makes my brow routine easy 👏 Have you tried it out? PS. I am also using the PATRICK TA - Major Brow Dual Ended Brow Brush - normally I would opt out and BYOBrush (lol) but I’m happy I purchased this one. It’s ✨aesthetic✨ but the stiffness of this brush makes using this product a dream. It’s so thin and stiff! Which I love even when using other creams to draw strokes of hair.
