Don’t do this - Using the hair curler on wet hair!
I love curls, but for me it takes a while to get them as they don’t just happen to me. The silver lining is that once I get them, they usually last for at least 4 days, which is a dream come true. However, it’s not always been very easy to get the wavy hair of my dreams. It’s been a long road of trial and error until I got it right. I used to try the curling iron as soon as I got damp hair, which resulted in a very long process and lots of burnt hairs. Not to mention that I can’t say I was over the moon with the results. It took me a while to realize that damp hair was a definite no-no. Actually, it was my hair stylist who insisted I never use a curling iron or straightener on wet or damp hair. Since then I always blow dry the hair before, and, more often lately, I wash it in the evenings and do the waves next morning. When I first started with the Philips Style Care Prestige, I felt like I’ve found my way to the perfect waves in a fraction of the time I’ve used to spend on this. The automatic hair curler is not on the cheap side, but it’s very easy to use, you just need to put little strands of hair in the opening and it sucks the hair in. Also, it gets warm in a matter of seconds and I’ve noticed that it doesn’t burn my hair at all. You can curl the hair in different directions, and for different amounts of time. It’s customizable depending on your needs and I totally love this. However, I was doing another mistake when using it – applying styling products before using the automatic curler. I’ve stopped doing this after I realized how much better it looks if I apply the styling foam when I’m done. So, what I do now is just use the curler on dry hair, it takes me about 20 minutes with my long hair. I don’t curl all the hair, just hair strands here and there. After I’m done, I put my fingers through the curls, so they look a bit messy – I love this fresh and casual look. The hair styling foam or spray is optional, sometimes I used it, other times not, my waves are good either way.

GO TO CUTE HAIRSTYLE: THE LOW MESSY BUN!
So naturally I have very straight, silky smooth hair and I love a good messy look. Although everyone’s go to is throwing their hair up in a top messy bun, I swear it takes me much longer to create that then this look! 💁🏽♀️ I also feel like your hair stays a lot more secure the entire day with this look and can be dressed up from day to night, and all you need are 2 hair ties! 😊 I would go for stretchy, good hold hair ties and preferably the same colour as your hair👍🏽 STEPS I love a middle part for this look so start by determining your part. And then I gather all my hair to the back like I’m about to make a pony tail! After this, my other hand with the hair tie comes in and starts creating a very simple, messy, quick bun (thus really doesn’t need to be perfect) I then grab another hair tie just for the added security. Again since my hair is super silky, it tends to fall out but with the extra hair tie, I like to fix up any lose ends as well Once that’s done, I play around with the bun, tuck in any long piece of hair till I’m happy and that’s it! **Pro tip: throw on some hops and you can even pull out a few strands around your face to elevate the look for night time! 💕
How I get fast curls that last for days at home
Remington Style Inspirations Fast Curls and Syoss Keratin Hairspray Sometimes I’d love some curls, as curls could volumizing my thin hair. And not just any type of beach waves, but real curls. This is the reason why I got the Remington Style Inspiration Fast Curls. What attracted me first when I saw it in the shop, was the “fast” on the label. I mean, I wouldn’t have wanted to spend forever getting some curls for a night out. I also liked the idea of hair rollers, brought back sweet memories from when my mom and grandmother used them when I was little. Felt like the symbol of femininity back then for me. I use the rollers a few times per year, so not very often, but it is really fast. Before using them, I wash my hair and blow dry it for a few minutes. The hair doesn’t need to be perfect dry, but not wet either. I plug in the device as it takes about 10-15 minutes to get the rollers hot enough to curl the hair. Then I start applying them one by one (there are different sizes, I use the larger ones mostly). It takes a bit to put them on, maybe another 10 to 15 minutes depending on how fast you are. Then about 15-30 minutes I let them on while I get dressed or watch some TV. After I take them out, I put my fingers through my hair and arrange it properly before securing everything in place with Syoss Keratin hairspray (I like it a lot because it comes down easily just by brushing the hair and it makes the hair shine and smell great). All in all I think it takes me somewhere in between 30 to 40 minutes to get great looking curls for a dramatic appearance!

My Mental Wellness Improved Through My Self AcceptanceWhen I was around 13 or 14 years old, I remember routinely taking one of my older sister’s black eyeliner pencils before school every morning. I’d arrive early so that I could slip away to the girl’s bathroom to apply a single black line to my eyelids. My parents didn’t allow me to wear any makeup at the time. Although this smudgy line on my eyelids didn’t make me look all that much different, I never felt comfortable at school without it. My teenage mind convinced myself that I needed some sort of cosmetic symbol in order to appropriately express my femininity. Up until that point in my life, society had told girls that looked like me - tall, Black, and with kinky hair - that we somehow weren’t as beautiful as the other girls. For far too long, I believed it too.Feb. 17
