Facial oils - my experience

Even though I have combination skin, I try to incorporate facial oils in my routine. I feel like they are the bodyguard for our skin, they seal all the products underneath. I have tried two oils till now and here is what I thought: Initially when I used the Biossance oil I thought it worked great, but my skin started breaking out very badly after3-4days and I stopped using the oil all together. I was very scared to use facial oil after my bad experience with this. BIOSSANCE - Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil
Then I came across Drunk elephant and with all those glimmering reviews I decided to give Marula oil a try and I never regretted it. My skin didn’t break out at all. And the oil also gets absorbed by my skin quickly and doesn't leave an oily icky residue. I especially love using this at night, when I have more time to massage my face. It minimizes the tugging from facial tools or friction from your fingers. Not everyone likes or needs oils on their face; but if you do, then don’t think twice before buying this! :)DRUNK ELEPHANT - Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil

🚨SOS - SAVE MY CUTICLES 🚨
Hey Cherie fam, I’m looking to all you amazing people for some advice. I’ve always had dry cuticles and I don’t know what to do. I’ve been using the BIOSSANCE - Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oilas a cuticle oil, since it wasn’t really working for my face as well as #F.Miller - Cuticle Oil[products]#, and frequent moisturizing using SOL de Janeiro - Coco Cabana Cream. I’ve seen a lot of improvement in my nails, they aren’t splitting or breaking as often as they used to but I’m still getting a lot of frayed cuticles! Anyone else have this problem? Would love some recommendations!

SERUMS VS OILS ?! WHATS THE DIFFERENCE ?!
I’ve seen this mistake made in many routines, including my own! When first getting into skincare, and experimenting with all sorts of new goodies it can be tough sometimes to understand a products function and what order to apply each product. It took me forever to figure out how to incorporate oils into my routine without just making myself look like a greasy monster 🙄 So I wanted to bring it back to basics and talk about the difference between facial serums and facial oils ✨ SERUMS: ✨ These are a treatment step, serums contain up to 70% active ingredients making them highly potent and results oriented. ✨Serums are made up of small molecules that are able to penetrate and deposit powerful actives into the deeper layers of the skin. ✨Serums can have moisturizing ingredients, but aren’t considered moisturizers in the traditional sense. You need to follow a serum with a moisturizer to create a barrier on top and keep all the good stuff in. ✨You should always use serums before moisturizer and never as a replacement FACIAL OILS: ✨Are best suited as a hydration step, the molecules are much larger meaning they are only serving the outermost layers of the skin. ✨Oils provide a boost of nutrition and hydration, they help nourish and strengthen the skin barrier. ✨Oils should be applied after serums and moisturizer, and can actually be used to replace your moisturizer. ✨ You only need about 2-3 drops of oil to cover your face without leaving a greasy film. A couple of my favourite are: SERUMS: ONE LOVE ORGANICS - Botanical C Facial Serum The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% HERBIVORE - Prism 12% AHA + 3% BHA Exfoliating Glow Serum OILS:HERBIVORE - Emerald Deep Moisture Glow Oil YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superberry Hydrate + Glow Oil

Are Face Oils Worth It? 🌿💦
I received the DRUNK ELEPHANT - Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil as a sample with my DRUNK ELEPHANT - T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial Mask a while back. I have been using it after Babyfacial as a way to help calm my skin after the chemical exfoliant have bulldozed through. Personally I didn’t actually find this oil super soothing after using Babyfacial. The texture of the oil felt great on my skin, but I didn’t see it reduce redness even after it being on for a few minutes. When it comes to the ingredient list there are some great ingredients in here for sure when it comes to hydrating and soothing the skin, but there are also a few that contribute to fungal acne (an issue I struggle with) and are comedogenic. They say there is no fragrance in this product, but I’m not a huge fan of the smell as I find it quite strong. Will I be repurchasing - Probably not. I love luxury skincare but I’ve never really found that face oils do it for me.. I rather do a mask or have a long bath instead of using an oil to feel pampered. *Disclaimer - I do not support Drunk Elephant in the ways they treat not only their staff, but also their customers.*

Clean Beauty 🌱 Fad Or Real Deal?!
Clean Beauty 🌱 Fad Or Real Deal?!
As the beauty world continues to grow, we are seeing more and more brands either starting out or reformulating to be considered a clean beauty brand. This movement reminds me all too well of when eating organic & staying away from preservatives became a major lifestyle trend, and continues to be to this day! People are constantly finding ways to better themselves, whether it’s better healthier habits, better exercise, and now clean beauty for flawless looking skin. The question is: Is this just a fad or is clean beauty really the road to the best skin one can have? Up until around November of 2019, I didn’t really have a strict skincare regime. I washed my face in the shower with drugstore products like Clean & Clear scrub, and use whatever moisturizer was laying around. I didn’t use face masks, under eye gel patches, and I had no idea what toner or essence was! 😂 It really wasn’t until I started my makeup beauty account on IG almost a year ago that I started learning about skincare routines and how important it was to have one. But as I said, it wasn’t until November 2019 that I discovered Drunk Elephant, clean beauty, layering / mixing, and listening to my skin’s needs (needs more hydrating products, nourishing products, pore clearing products, etc). I will 100% stand by and say that my skin has never looked better since using Drunk Elephant products. But because I do try out and test products for IG, I can’t sit here and say it’s ALL I use. But I can tell you that my skin definitely reacts now (and I don’t have sensitive skin either!) when I use certain products because it is so accustomed to DE and their wonderful, beneficial ingredients. So do I think you can only have flawless looking skin using clean beauty products? No. I had relatively nice skin, no acne issues or breakouts, before having a proper skincare regime. There are also plenty of clean beauty brands that are affordable on the market like The Inkey List & Good Molecules. I think the key to great looking skin is just by listening to your skin’s needs, testing new products out in small skin patches to prevent reactions, and just using a trial and error method. What works for one person may not work for the next, and that’s perfectly fine. That’s the beautiful thing about this beauty community - there are an endless amount of options for everyone to find something that works for them!

I’ve struggled with acne since
I’ve struggled with acne since I was about 14 years old. I never really felt comfortable with a bare face until recently. Now I feel like I have nothing to hide, even if there are some little imperfections going on here. Even now I’m still trying to get rid of hormonal acne that was triggered by my birth control switch. Still, I’m stuck with some scarring and pigmentation also from being a picker 🤕 I’m working on evening out my skin tone mainly with AHAs and Vitamin C. I love love love the boosters from paulaschoice ❤️ I’m actually down to the last drops of my Niacinamide booster and I’m sad about it 😭 I mentioned that the glossier zit stick works like magic for me as a spot treatment, but you know spot treating won’t prevent new zits from popping up! That’s where my curology comes in. I just tried out their cleanser and moisturizer as well which feel amazing. The cleanser is creamy and soothing, the moisturizer is cooling with its gel-like consistency. My formula of curology has been helping my skin combat pesky pimples from popping up. I’ve seen a huge reduction in pimples since starting curology!

Dupe for DE Protini Cream? (Spoiler: NO)
Dupe for DE Protini Cream? (Spoiler: NO)
First off, thank you for all the love on my post about “curing” my cystic acne! I hope that it helped people as much as it helped me in my skin journey. If you read that post, you’d know that while not necessarily sensitive, I am oily and can veer into dehydrated if I overcorrect the oiliness too much. That’s why DRUNK ELEPHANT - Protini Polypeptide Cream was my angel. Perfection. I loved it. My skin had never been more ~balanced~. Chef’s kiss. 10/10. You know what I didn’t like though? That $68 price tag. I think I shed a tear when my sample size was out. (Not to mention the company’s internal drama, but I digress.) Enter Brandefy, a broke person’s savior that specializes in finding comperable dupes to expensive staples in makeup and skincare. And they tossed in this budget moisturizer saying it had pretty much ALL OF THE SAME INGREDIENTS. Obviously, I bought it immediately. And now, two days later, I can honestly say... After ONE NIGHT of using this product, I woke up with milia and small whiteheads all across my T-zone. The next night, I applied a little less to see if that helped, but woke up with more red spotting. I had noticed the texture of the Acure brand cream was thicker, less water-like than the Protini (which should have been obvious seeing as how Protini’s first ingredient is water, but hey). One AHA face wash and different moisturizer later, my skin has calmed down to where it’ll all be back to normal in a day, but this is the first time I’ve reacted to any product in this way. I’m recommending you fellow acne, oily-skin people stay away from it altogether. Dry skin babes, this might be the one for you. All I know is, at least I have a new hand cream, I guess. 2/5 ⭐️ - maybe someone will find it useful for their skin, but it’s got a limited range.

Products I've tried to treat acne....
Products I've tried to treat acne....
I have combination-oily and sensitive skin. I was also acne-prone for 7 years and I still have acne scars. I'll be sharing some products I've tried before. 💦Facial Cleanser -Chanel La Mousse Anti-Pollution Cleansing Cream-To-Foam A gentle, paste-like facial cleanser suitable for sensitive skin and evening use. Rub to create a foamy lather before use or use it with a facial cleansing massager. -CAUDALIE - Instant Foaming Cleanser A morning facial cleanser. Those with sensitive and fragile skin can consider cleansing in the evening. 💦Essence SK-II - Facial Treatment Essence (Pitera Essence) It increases skin immunity if used long-term. It also won't cause acne breakouts and is super refreshing! It's effective in lightening acne scars but does nothing for pockmarks. LA MER - The Treatment Lotion A small amount is enough for the whole face. I find it a little sticky for me and I don't feel like it adds anything to my skincare routine. SK-II - Facial Treatment Clear Lotion Toner As a double cleanser before using a toner, I don't suggest daily use for sensitive, acne-prone skin as I don't feel it doing much at all. Albion Essential Skin Conditioner It cleared acne effectively at the beginning. But somehow it didn't work as well after a while. I still use it as a lotion mask sometimes. SHISEIDO - Eudermine Revitalizing Essence Strongly not recommended! It has a really sticky texture and causes acne breakouts. 💦Serum SHISEIDO - Ultimune Power Infusing Serum Concentrate I highly recommend you to use this after a toner. It's non-greasy and it won't cause breakouts. It keeps your skin healthy if you use it long term! I think it has a restorative effect. LA MER - LA MER The Concentrate It repairs damaged skin and lightens acne scars, but I won't suggest everyday use as it causes bumps. Kiehl's - Midnight Recovery Concentrate It also features restoration effects and I normally use it after applying Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate. I'll squeeze three drops onto my palm, then rub it between my palms until it's warm and massage it onto my face. It also doesn't cause acne breakouts! You'll find your skin feeling rejuvenated the next day. 💦Facial Cream SK-II - R.N.A. Power Radical New Age Cream I think it's too thick and heavy for oily skin during summer, but it's suitable for winter use. It's also suitable for acne-prone skin. LA MER - LA MER The Moisturizing Soft Cream LA MER - The Moisturizing Cool Gel Cream I suggest the soft cream for winter use. It has a great scent and it won't cause acne breakouts. However, you'll find your skin oily the next day. I suggest the gel cream for summer use, but those with severe acne-prone skin can skip this step.

This face oil by Biossance is truly a wonder for my skin. I tried a sample size of it a little over a year ago and it really was one of the first oils that actually helped with my acne and sensitive skin. So when they had this full size as apart of a huge set, I jumped at the chance to finally add this oil to my routine. I feel as though it works well for most skin types. I have semi dry/oily sensitive skin and this oil doesn’t irritate or cause any redness. It has a very subtle rose scent to it. Nothing too over powering. You only need a few drops to apply to your entire face and neck. I feel as though it works well with even acne prone skin. It doesn’t cause any breakouts... but it does help heal and soothe already prominent blemishes. It leaves your skin super soft in the morning!!! BIOSSANCE - Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil

For blemish-prone skin, the Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil is a great choice. I use oils as a middle step in my routine, after traditional serum and before moisturizer. The consistency is like a traditional oil, thin and hydrating. There is no added fragrance in this product, however the addition of the oregano extract gives it an earthy smell. I use this oil whenever I’m breaking out all over, as opposed to using blemish patches for every random one now and then. My sister loves stealing this oil from me! She’s 16 and currently deals with hormonal breakouts often, so she uses the oil to combat this. Seeing that I do not breakout all over often, I like this product but I do not use it enough for it to be a holy grail. This one will set you back $50, but seeing that you can use it day and night it will be worth your money. I think if you have acne-prone skin this is a great addition to your routine!
