Exfoliation is an essential step in your beauty routine to maintain that healthy glow, improve skin texture and tone, and prevent breakouts. Basically what it does is remove dead cells so they can be replaced by new ones. This process allows products to penetrate better and instantly restores luminosity by forcing cell renewal. A physical exfoliation is a product or tool that requires rubbing or scrubbing action. This includes brushes, sponges and skincare scrubs (it has small particles like salt grains, sugar, jojoba beads ...). This type of exfoliation removes dead skin cells from the top layer using physical friction. This type of exfoliation is preferred by many because you see an immediate result: smooth, radiant and healthy skin. Physical exfoliation causes less irritation than chemical exfoliation. It’s an excellent choice for oily skin and large pores as they tend to have thicker skin and are more tolerant of abrasive particles. My favorites: FOREO - LUNA play plus
The minimum you should exfoliate is once a week (dry skin) and maximum 3 times a week (oily skin).
The exfoliation should always be gentle and never abrasive.
If you have severe acne, see your dermatologist first.
Don’t do it if you have wounds or cuts.
If you are taking medications or using prescription products (retinol), exfoliation may cause dryness, sensitivity and acne breakouts.

Importance of Exfoliation!!!
Happy Monday Everyone🖤 It’s the start of a new week and I need you all to pay very close attention to what you are about to read! Exfoliating is essential in every skin routine regardless of what skin type you have PERIOD. You need to exfoliate! This step in your routine targets all skin issues from acne to large pores and to smoother skin. Check out these benefits of exfoliating: 1. Helps reduce hormonal acne! To all my high school and college students, school gets stressful. For me personally, I break out when I’m stressed. However, exfoliating prevents breakouts from appearing and helps acne go away faster. 2. Helps even skin tone and provides smoother skin. If you are suffering from textured skin, acne scarring, and hyperpigmentation. Through exfoliating those skin issues will fade away overtime. 3. Exfoliating regulates the oil in your skin which also helps to unclog pores to prevent future breakouts. (key for my folks with oily and combination skin) 4. Removes dead skin cells to promote new cell growth. Getting rid of those dead skin cells will promote smoother skin. 5. PREVENTS AND TREATS ACNE BIG TIME! _____________________________________ I am currently using Paulas Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant. I use this once every evening and use The Ordinary’s AHA+ BHA Peeling Solution about twice a month. I prefer chemical exfoliants over physical exfoliants because physical exfoliants can be harsh and ruin your protective barrier. Things to Remember: 1. Do not over exfoliate. Follow the instructions label on your product. 2. If you exfoliate, you must wear sunscreen. Exfoliating can cause sensitivity to the skin. So please wear sunscreen to protect your protective barrier. 3. Use exfoliants that have AHA and BHA as ingredients.PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Lotion Exfoliant The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution
Next on my list to review....
Here's my latest skin haul awaiting to arrive in the mail. I'll be trying and reviewing to give you my truthful opinion on how these work for me and why I think they are (or are not) a good product. Have you personally tried any of these? Sound off in the comments your thoughts. Give me time to get through each of these products since I'll be trying them out for atleast a week at a time.
100 uses and then it’s obsolete. I don’t know how I feel about that. Quite frankly, I think one of the cvs knockoffs might be a better option, considering the price (it’s about $40 bucks a pop) I do like it better than my brush, it feels gentle enough not to scratch but fire enough to get dirt out. There are knock offs that will do the trick and not hurt your pocket as much 🤑😘
Foreo vs. Silicon scrubber
These tools are used to clean the skin. FOREO - LUNA play plus Facial cleansing brush that removes dirt, oil and makeup residue with T-sonic pulsations. Use: to use simply apply cleanser to your face and turn on the device and massage into the skin for 2 minutes and rinse. Pros: great for travel, lightweight, soft skin from the first use, gentle on the skin, helps to remove makeup, easy to clean, waterproof. Cons: higher price, it would be better if it was rechargeable instead of using batteries. face secrets - Silicone face scrubbers Ideal for daily cleaning. Use: apply facial cleanser and run it over the face in circular motions. Pros: gentle on the skin, antibacterial, low cost, easy to use. Cons: 🤷🏻♀️ you have to make more effort to achieve the foreo results. Both tools work equally well, the difference is that one vibrates and the other doesn’t. I think they are very good options and it will depend on your preference. Since I use Foreo I feel my skin smoother and cleaner. This model is one of the cheapest of the brand and works perfectly.
Holy grails; hands down!
CeraVe - Moisturizing Cream For Normal To Dry Skin CLINIQUE - Pep Start 2-in-1 Exfoliating Cleanser These two are my absolute holy grails. As a bit of backstory, I have sensitive skin — including but not limited to redness, acne, occasional pesky blackheads as well as sun damage. Due to my redness and acne getting exacerbated by certain products — I wanted to share these two products that have NEVER FAILED to make my skin feel and look soft, clean, fresh, and awake! The CLINIQUE - Pep Start 2-in-1 Exfoliating Cleanser leaves my skin feeling rejuvenated and can be used twice per day... I prefer to use it only at night (just because it is exfoliating that I personally don’t want to over-do it...) According to Clinique, “exfoliation is achieved through the natural enzymatic action of papaya extract and the manual action of natural silica and bamboo beads. The base provides a cooling cushion, and foams into a satisfying lather.” Takeaway: leaves your face feeling fresh and clean and is appropriate for all types of skin! CeraVe - Moisturizing Cream For Normal To Dry Skin is my go-to everyday for a face and body moisturizer. It is known in the beauty community as a noncomedogenic face moisturizer and had been recommended initially by my dermatologist. The ONLY complaint I have is that if you use a little too much OR if you live where it gets humid, it can feel like it’s melting off your face. I haven’t been wearing makeup so much which is how I’ve found this. Alternatively, it sits very well under makeup! Takeaway: a little goes a long way!
Deep Cleaning Products
SUMMER FRIDAYS - Jet Lag Mask SIZE: 2.25 oz/ 64 g $63 CAD This ultra-hydrating facial mask with a rich combination of ceramides, vitamins, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory ingredients that help to combat puffy, inflamed, over-worked skin. I normally use it once or twice a week after shower, left in on for 20 minutes and then rubbed the rest in my skin befor going to sleep as a deep cleaning. It can peel and feel tight, I would put on lotion after this as I normally do. It has a very slight scent. I don’t find it to be overwhelming at all. It feels refreshing when it goes on. By morning my face is so smooth and soft. I do love this product, it’s softer and feels more hydrated but not sticky and heavy like other cream moisturizers. But it's more of a nice to have than a need to have. There are other products that are cheaper and achieve the same results CLINIQUE - Pep Start 2-in-1 Exfoliating Cleanser Size：125 ml Price: $26 I get this as a sample from Sephora. This cleanser is suitable for oily/combination skin. This is a very nice dual cleanser and scrub in one. I use this after I have removed my makeup well using a cleansing oil. I find it very scrubby. It’s a foaming exfoliating scrub and the beads are very gentle yet effective for getting rid of dead skin cells and makeup. Personally, I found it's a bit too rough for everyday use, but as an occasional thing, it's handy. I only use this one a few times a week and it has seriously reduced redness and made my skin a lot smoother and brighter. Accordingly, if you don’t use regularly, that oily feeling on your face gets back. This is a nice cleansing product, especially when you are looking to get a very gentle and silky exfoliation, as opposed to feeling harsh gritty, but not recommend to beauties with acne and very sensitive skin.

so i recently bought the PEACH & LILY - Super Reboot Resurfacing Mask and the claims were similar to the DRUNK ELEPHANT - T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial Mask so i wanted to see how they compare to each other!! DRUNK ELEPHANT - T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial Mask not fungal acne safe ( Sclerocarya Birrea Seed Oil , Passiflora Edulis (Passion Fruit) Seed Oil, Sorbitan Isostearate, Polysorbate 60) $80 for 50ml 20% aha 2% bha this mask BURNS like hell for like the first 30 seconds but then settles down. i personally didn’t notice a difference in my skin. although my skin felt soft the next day, i was also surprised with irritation bumps :D so yeah for $80, i was pretty disappointed. PEACH & LILY - Super Reboot Resurfacing Mask not fungal acne safe ( polyglyceryl-10 Laurate) $ 43 for 80ml 10% aha 0.5% bha this mask has a similar “ tingling” feeling however its not as bad as the DE mask. ive used this mash twice now ( you can use once to twice a week) and ive noticed little bumps on my cheecks ( prob irritation) but im sure my skin needs a few more used to get used to it. it does however leave my skin plump and dewy my overall opinion on these 2 exfoliating mask is that they are both very similar and essentially do the same thing.

Yo Glow Facial Enzyme Scrub
HUDA BEAUTY - Yo Glow Facial Enzyme Scrub By far this has been my favorite exfoliating product I’ve used for my face. There’s just something satisfying about seeing all the dead skin sloughing off your face (or is that just me lol). I usually would use this twice a week or whenever my skin has been looking dull and feeling rough. I only had the mini size so I didn’t really notice any lightening of my dark spots but after using it my skin was immediately softer and smoother.
Skin Update : December’s here 🎄🌬
Hi loves, Hope your day’s been good to you - I wanted to share my skin’s progress with you because I feel like it really cleared itself up which makes me happy ✨😇👏🏻 Although, I might need a product for dark circles and enlarged pores. I did my research but I’m still hesitant about which one to pick - so feel free to comment anything you’d think would work!👋🏻🙃 I’m currently using the following products : 1) CLEANSER : Benzagel - Acne Wash or alya skin. - Foaming Micellar Cleanser (I alternate with both!) 2) EXFOLIATE : HUDA BEAUTY - Yo Glow Facial Enzyme Scrub (1-2x a week!) 3) The Ordinary - Lactic Acid 10% + HA *I use The Ordinary’s Lactic Acid only at night! I read that it did cause irritation for some people - which was the case for me but it’s not that bad. It itches for a few seconds and then it calms down! 4) SERUM : L'OCCITANE - Immortelle Overnight Reset Oil-in-Serum 5) MOISTURIZER : HUDA BEAUTY - Honey Balm Niacinamide Moisturizer 6) OIL : L'OCCITANE - Immortelle Divine Youth Oil 7) SUNSCREEN (day time only) : LA ROCHE-POSAY - Anthelios XL Ultra-Light Fluid SPF 50+ Take care x 💓
✨HOLY GRAIL PRODUCT - Third Repurchase!
✨ What is it? Thin cotton pads drenched in the most LUXURIOUS formula. I use it as a morning cleanser to both remove my products from the night before and give my skin a boost of exfoliation and radiance. It can also be used as a toner pad after you cleanse if you have oily skin or feel like you need something extra. ✨ What’s in it? The ingredients that stuck out to me are as follows: • Witch Hazel - soothing astringent • Salicylic acid - pore un-clogging BHA • Sodium PCA - natural moisturizing factor • Bakuchiol - natural retinol alternative • Lactic and Glycolic acids - exfoliating AHAs (low %) • Willow Bark extract - anti-inflammatory and pore clearing ✨ My thoughts: This is my #1 favorite product on the market. Dr. Nassif’s skincare line is all medical grade products with ingredients that WORK. These pads keep my skin crystal-clear, nothing evens me out like they do! I’m a huge fan of AHAs and BHAs and I just recently started learning about the benefits of Bakuchiol which only heightens my love for this product. A MUST try!! Its $45 for 60 pads, but this product came in a FabFitFun box a few seasons ago which is where I first tried it, and you can sometimes get it as a discounted add-on if you have a subscription! Unfortunately the pads do contain fragrance low on the ingredients list, but I personally do not find it to be sensitizing and I cannot smell a fragrance at all. Drunk elephant | TLC Baby facial mask
🐘What it is? Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial™ 25% AHA + 2% BHA Mask 🐘Key Ingredient: 25% AHA+2%BHA, can effectively exfoliate dead surface skin, stimulate the regeneration of new cells to achieve a brighter and more youthful appearance. 🐘My Thought： I have oily skin and prone to acne, and often get breakouts from clogged pores caused by excessive oil production. I know AHA and BHA are good at solving this concern, so I did not hesitate to give it a chance when I knew this product. As you can see in the pic, its texture is a yellow paste which is hard to spread. When I first applied it, I felt a tingling sensation, especially on my nose area. All the acids will have such a feeling, so you really don't need to worry. Now I have been using this mask for almost 2 months, 1-2 times a week. I have to say that my skin does have some visible changes. My clogging problem has been greatly improved, and acne spots have also faded a lot. I'm not sure all the credit goes to this mask, but I really appreciate it. As for the anti-aging benefits, I haven’t had any fine lines and wrinkles yet, so I can't tell you some useful feedback. Anyway, if you are not sensation skin and want a product that can tackle with multiple skin problems, I think this mask deserves a chance.

neutrogena deep clean gentle scrub
key ingredients: citric acid - citric acid is effective for sloughing off dead skin cells and speeding new cell turnover. this ingredient can promote new skin growth that can alleviate the appearance of acne scars, minor wrinkles, uneven skin tone/texture, hyperpigmentation, and age spots. salicylic acid - salicylic acid is proven to be an effective skin care ingredient because of the way it penetrates into the skin and dissolves any debris inside your pores. it’s also naturally derived from willow bark which is known to heal and soothe. this acid can also help with any inflammation and redness of a blemish. what it claims to do: neutrogena’s deep clean gentle scrub claims to gently exfoliate the skin with microbeads. the beta hydroxy helps to clean deep into the pores for soft and smooth skin. neutrogena’s description of this product claims that, “Neutrogena Deep Clean Gentle Scrub is the daily cleansing scrub with beta hydroxy proven to clean deep down into your pores, yet is gentle enough to use every day. Skin looks and feels soft and smooth after just one use.” my experience: this product was pretty effective for exfoliating and removing the dead skin cells off of my face since it is formulated with a beta hydroxy acid formula (bha - which is the salicylic acid). i used this scrub everyday for about 2 weeks straight until i noticed that it started leaving a tight feeling on my face after usage (although this is labeled as a “gentle scrub”). i found this to be a bit too harsh for everyday use on my skin, but that might just be because i have sensitive skin). instead of using this everyday, i limited my usage of this product to about 2-3 days every week. after using this algorithm, my skin felt smooth and soft after without the tight feeling that i was experiencing before. i also noticed that this helped remove and reduce the appearance of some of my blackheads. FACE MASK FOR ACNE
Whether you’re into skincare/beauty products or not, I’m sure you’ve already seen this famous clay mask from @sandandsky. The first thing that I will say is that it absolutely lives up to the hype! This is one of the smoothest clay mask I’ve tried and doesn’t crack when it dries like most clay masks do. It‘s formulated to refine pores, detoxify and brighten the skin. If you suffer from congestion and hyperpigmentation, which most people with acne prone skin do, then I highly recommend this mask. I love using it whenever my skin breaks out and/or is feeling dull. It immediately makes my skin feel purified and clean! It also brightens my overall complexion. Aside from using it as a wash-off mask, I also like to use it as a spot treatment overnight. This is honestly my absolute favourite clay mask and I think it’s 100% worth it! SAND&SKY - Australian Pink Clay Porefining Face Mask
