Battle of the sunscreens đĽ
priscilla
Skin type: combination, acne-prone.
Skin concern: avoid sun damage.
As I said in another review, I love samples/minis because they give me a chance to try a product before buying the full size.
Sunscreens are somewhat complicated. We should look for sunscreens with broad spectrum coverage (UVB/UVA) and an SPF of 30 or higher and always reapply it every 2 hours.
You should also be aware of the ingredients that help to deal with specific concerns (acne, fine lines...). This can be tricky, if you are prone to breakouts or have sensitive skin. So you should try sunscreens until you find the best for you

I live where the sun shines virtually every day!
Therefore, my routine is photo protective. From my morning Vitamin C + antioxidant serums, to my evening gentle acid exfoliants, I have built my skincare routine around anti-aging preventatives. I recently began working topical retinol at low % into my routine and get monthly Y:ag laser facials to stimulate and encourage collagen production.
Iâm about to turn 26, and I am very lucky to have plenty of collagen and few wrinkles. I spent a lot of my early 20s breaking the cardinal rules of anti-aging including smoking cigarettes (Iâve been nicotine free for over a year now!) and skipping SPF most days. I even had a brief bout of tanning booth addiction đ
Now I use spf products as a daily routine. I was committed to Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 until a girl at Ulta recommended StriVectin - Full Screen SPF 30 Clear Finish which has a lower SPF and similar consistency as Unseen. Iâve also tried the Supergoop! - 100% Mineral Smooth & Poreless Matte Screen SPF 40AND Supergoop! - Glowscreen Sunscreen SPF 40, neither of which I was really crazy about. The gel/primer consistency of both Unseen Sunscreen and the Strivectin spf are more conducive to my skincare routine and they both sink into my skin without leaving a greasy feeling.
Now that I have an office job and wfh, Iâm spending about 10 hours/day staring at two huge computer monitors, so I think Iâll stick with the Strivectin screen that also includes Vitamins A, B, C, and Pro-Vitamin D (?) and claims for protect against UVA/UVB, Blue Light (computer screens), and pollution. Itâs affordable, comfortable to wear, a little goes a long way, and performs well under makeup when Iâm wearing it. The lower spf isnât a problem for me because Iâm not standing in direct sunlight or anything. I think if I had my previous job working outside everyday Iâd want a higher spf.
Another line of defense I like to fall back on are SPF tinted moisturizers. A while back I had tried the PĂR - 4-in-1 Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 20 which is honestly such a dream. This is a photo of me wearing it on a midday walk. Itâs low to medium coverage, buildable, hydrating, and stays put! I donât have very oily skin or especially dry skin so I feel it is a happy medium for those with normal or combo skin types. By no means is it full coverage. I slap this on (using my fingers to apply) if Iâm planning to go for a walk in the sunshine or on a hike, in addition to my base layer of SPF. Of course, the best preventative is keeping the sun off your face at all costs, so youâll usually see me on the trails with one of my favorite floppy hats, or sometimes if Iâm feeling jazzy - my Bluestone Sunshield (see a few posts back).

SPF Combo for Glowing Skin
MISSHA - Missha All-around Safe Block Essence Sun Milk
This product has been my ride or die for about 5 months now. I bought this on a whim as the Purito ones were all sold out (...), and I was surprised at how much I liked this. this lasted me through the 30°C heat, and in the winter just in doors. I didnât love the finish that it gave my skin, so i decided to start mixing these two as the Volition one gives a more glowy finish!
VOLITION - Prismatic Luminizing Shield SPF 50
On its own, I donât love the texture of this product. Itâs very thick and feels like a typical all zinc sunscreen, but this one is a chemical, which is strange. Mixing them is a perfect medium, the texture evens out and it makes my skin look amazing!

Best Sunscreens Under Makeup!
Just because the weather is changing doesnât mean we can slack off when it comes SPF the health of our skin! I used to neglect wearing SPF because I felt like it ruined my makeup, but thankfully I have found some really great options that wear really nicely under my foundation and tinted moisturizers. I have pretty normal/combination skin so I have quite a few formulas that I enjoy depending on how my skin is behaving.
During the warmer months, when my skin is more on the oily side, I typically each for a mattifying SPF. One of my faves is the #Rodan + Fields - Invisible Matte Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 30[products]#[FiveStars] It feels smooth and silky when applied, and itâs also clear which I love! It also helps keep my oils in check!
Another summertime favorite is the BARE REPUBLIC - Face Mineral Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30 First of all, I love Bare Republicâs sunscreens because they are reef friendly and contain no chemical sunscreen actives. I also love that it dries down to a powder finish, and doesnât leave my skin feeling greasy. I use this sunscreen basically year round because it works when my skin is either dry or oily.
Another year round fave is the PAULA'S CHOICE - Youth-extending Daily Hydrating Fluid SPF 50 I tend to reach for it pretty frequently because of its anti-aging benefits and also because of how lightweight it is! It absorbs into my skin super quickly also which is important when Iâm in a hurry and donât have much time to get ready in the morning.
When my skin is on the dry side, I love using the VOLITION - Prismatic Luminizing Shield SPF 50 Not only does it protect my skin from harmful UV rays, but it also gives my complexion the prettiest glow. I love wearing it on makeup free days because of the radiance it adds to my complexion, but it also wears beautifully under makeup. Itâs also really lightweight and breathable.
Another great and super lightweight formula is the MyChelle dermaceuticals - Sun Shield Liquid SPF 50 I love that it evens out my complexion and adds a little bit of glow while still being a matte formula. Itâs also blends into the skin really nicely! Iâm a huge fan of Mychelle Beautyâs skincare products!
Two of my newer SPF products that I have really been enjoying are the dermalogica - Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF50 Moisturizer and the JANMARINI - Antioxidant Physical Protectant SPF30 The Jan Marini sunscreen is water resistant so I love wearing it when Iâm doing anything outdoors because I know Iâm not going to sweat it off. It keeps my oils in check and has the added benefits of additional antioxidant protection. The Dermalogica Dynamic Skin Recovery is also a great option because not only is it an SPF, but itâs also a really nice lightweight moisturizer. It absorbs pretty quickly and doesnât leave any type of residue on my skin either.

Chemical Sunscreen Verzuz
One thing about me: I love a mineral sunscreen because of the way it interacts with the skin as a physical barrier on top versus being absorbed like a chemical sunscreen, but I will say one of these sunscreens is a strong contender for my favorite. Any guesses which one?đ
Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40
A chemical sunscreen after my own heart. The first time I put this on, I was amazed by how smooth it felt. It didnât smell strong or remind me of the beach. If I wore makeup, I could see this easily being layered with my other products.
ďżźDown side: As minimal as it was, I have felt some irritation using this sunscreen and itâs no surprise because itâs a chemical sunscreen (chemical sunscreens have a lot more ingredients compared to mineral ones, so it can be hard to pinpoint what ingredient causes a reaction if you have one).
FENTY SKIN - Hydra Vizor Invisible Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen
I wanted to love it, I did, but Iâm scared of fragrance especially when I have to put it on my skin. This moisturizing spf does smell sweet. This one actually reminded me of my beach visits because it has that typical sunscreen scent once the floral one wares off. Some Iâm still dealing with my acne, I donât want to take too many chances with the products I use, so overall Iâll be sticking to mineral sunscreen.
What have yâall experienced with chemical sunscreens?

Anti-pollution skincare & why you need it!
Did you know pollution can be silently and progressively deteriorating your complexion? Exposure to environmental stressors such as free radicals, UV/UVB exposure, different fumes and emissions could be wrecking your skin. Heck, even emissions from paint and carpeting inside your own home are potentially damaging your skin, causing inflammation, fine lines, dull skin and premature aging.
More and more research shows that environmental factors could be stronger determinants of our overall health than our very own genes. And unless youâre moving to a secluded forest with cleaner air, maybe you should start considering anti-pollution skincare!
Dr. Loretta took all these factors into account when creating her own line of skincare, so all of her products claim to protect skin from oxygen AND nitrogen free radical damage.
Dullness and dehydration are possibly my major skin concerns, Iâve struggled with dehydrated skin for years, and if Iâm not diligent with my skincare I know for sure my skin will be looking dull and crusty in just a few hours.
𧴠Dr Loretta - Intense Replenishing Serum
Living in a super dry city I need to have a serum to keep me hydrated, but isnât too heavy that will make my combo skin feel oily or break me out. This serum has a very interesting consistency, itâs light but feels like a serum/oil hybrid. Besides from protecting skin against free radicals itâs also made with vitamin F to maintain a healthy skin barrier and prevent water loss.
𧴠Dr. Loretta - Tightening Eye Gel
I have a hard time finding eye cream that works well for me, most eye creams Iâve tried gave me milia which is so annoying. Having an eye gel has been amazing for me, being a gel I know for sure it wonât give me milia but Iâm still treating my under eyes. I havenât been using that long to speak on long-term effects but Iâm liking it so far. It works great to depuff! At $60 for 20 ml itâs a pricey one, but you really only need like half a pump and thatâs enough for both eyes.
𧴠Dr. Loretta - Urban Antioxidant Sunscreen SPF 40
This is such a nice SPF in my opinion. Not only does it offer UVA/UVB protection, it also protects against HEV light emitted from the sun and electronic devices and of course, pollution. It has a slight peachy tint so it looks good on its own, and gives off a nice satin finish, not too dewy or too matte.
One thing I have to note on this product is I have to take a few extra minutes for application, itâs best to pat it in rather than aggressively rubbing it on, which I wouldnât recommend either way đ normally I wouldnât bother but I love how it looks on me, and it was $50 so I will make it work lol
Have you tried any anti-pollution formulas? Would you give these a try? âşď¸

SPF EVERYDAY đ§´âď¸
Lately Iâve been really neglecting my skin and not doing full on skincare routines, Iâve been too low on energy and Iâve talked about how this is major issue for me. When Iâm not feeling my best I tend to neglect myself.
BUT Iâve still been using SPF on the daily! Itâs literally the only step I never ever miss and itâs very important. SPF protects skin from harmful UVA/UVB rays that accelerate cellular oxidation.
These are the ones Iâve been using lately:
âď¸ cocokind - Daily SPF Cocokind can do no wrong! Iâve been waiting for a sunscreen from them for so long. This is a mineral formula which I often donât like because they feel heavy on my skin, and this one is the heaviest out of these three but itâs definitely a lot lighter than other mineral sunscreens Iâve tried before. It also protects from blue light and pollution damage. Itâs formulated with phytoplankton and microalgae.
âď¸ Dr. Loretta - Urban Antioxidant Sunscreen SPF 40 this one is an all-time favorite of mine! It has a slight peach tint so I can use it on its own with no makeup. This sunscreen highlights key ingredients like Indian ginseng extract to protect skin from HEV light and zinc oxide protects skin from UVA/UVB and other external irritants. I need to pat it in rather than rub it as it tends to pill but itâs no issue for me.
âď¸ EVERYDAY HUMANS - Resting Beach Face SPF30 Sunscreen Serum this is the lightest formula out of these three. It leaves literally no whitecast, and wears beautifully under makeup. It leaves my skin looking super dewy and perfected. This formula has hyaluronic acid to plump skin + spinach and green tea to strengthen your skin barrier. It smells the most like sunscreen but the smell fades quickly.
Whatâs your go-to SPF? đ´

Battle of the Sunscreens!
âď¸ I have sensitive combination skin that is acne-prone so Iâve used a LOT of sunscreens trying to find the perfect one. These are just some of my experiences ranked from worst to best. I always apply sunscreen after my moisturizer in the AM and then reapply during the day.
âď¸4. Umbra Tinte by Drunk Elephant
$36 for 2oz and SPF 30
This is a tinted and physical broad spectrum sunscreen for UVA and UVB protection. It has lots of antioxidants and has Marula oil in classic DE fashion for moisture. It is free of essential oils and fragrance.
Thoughts?
Meh. This is not it for me. I like a smooth finish and this in the past has made my skin feel very sticky to the touch. It has a gentle scent that isnât distracting that I actually enjoy but it made me look really shiny and gross. That being said, my best friend loves this so I will be giving it another chance soon which I think is important to do because you may find you change your mind! It really is up to your preference but Iâve tried others that Iâve fallen for on the first try and this was definitely not that.
âď¸3. Mineral Matte Screen by Supergoop
$38 for 1.5 oz and SPF 40
This is a 100% mineral screen with a matte finish for all skin types. It also claims to minimize the look of pores and controls shine. The brand recently redesigned the formula to make it reef-safe!
Thoughts?
With this formula, I struggle to get an even look sometimes without really blending but I love how it feels! Itâs so soft on the skin and gives almost a light coverage like a light foundation which I really enjoy. Because of this, I find it helps when I have any redness or breakouts too. Iâd be curious to try the new formula and see how it compares but I do reach for this regularly.
âď¸2. Youth Extending Hydrating Fluid by Paulaâs Choice
$33 for 2oz and SPF 50
This is a water-light formula with antioxidants and broad-spectrum sun protection. It also fights environmental stressors. This is a chemical screen meaning that it converts the rays into heat rather than a physical screen which deflects them. This can be sensitizing for some people but I havenât had an issue with this.
Thoughts?
I love this one! Itâs super lightweight and applies gorgeously almost like a light moisturizer on top. I will purchase this at some point in the full size. I think itâll be great for summer because of this lightness. It isnât sticky and doesnât leave a white cast. Love it!
âď¸1. Centella Green Level Unscented Sunscreen by Purito
$15.90 for 2oz and SPF 50
This is safe for all skin types, essential oil free and is broad spectrum. Itâs reef safe and calming for the skin too!
Thoughts?
YES. This is my favorite sunscreen of all time. I canât believe this isnât talked about more. Truly. It goes on like a moisturizer, isnât sticky, makes skin feel smooth and doesnât leave a white cast. This is my favorite. Hands down. Easy to reapply too! Definitely a repurchase.

SKINCEUTICALS - Physical Fusion Uv Defense SPF 50
I love skinceuticals. I have their Vitamin C serum and have had a wonderful experience with it so far. But this... oh my lord.
Before you ask, no, it is not expired. I have normal/sensitive skin, and used just a few products (cleanser, toner (YTTP) and light moisturizer before this. I have never had pilling problems with the moisturizer, so I donât think think itâs a problem with the layers under it. Honestly, I donât know what the problem is.
The texture is disgusting and super liquid-y. Hard to blend it before it leaks off your face 𼴠when I tried to blend it, it started pilling like C R A Z Y.
After I managed to dust off my face, I got told by my friend that I âforgot to blend in my foundationâ around my forehead. FML. Because this is supposed to act like a light tint and âenhance your skin toneâ (which shade????) it managed to make my âno makeup just spfâ skin a nightmare. Thanks, guys. I hate it

Centella Green Level Unscented Sunscreen
todayâs post is on @purito_official centella green level unscented sunscreen SPF 50+ PA++++. i was very intrigued by this sunscreen because one, itâs a chemical sunscreen, and two, it has no added fragrance, and it has been said that it works great with individuals with sensitive skin.
i have been consistently using this product for about a month now, and i think i found my new favourite chemical sunscreen âŁď¸ it contains niacinamide and centella, which are two great ingredients for anti-infammatory. it does not leave a white case, doesnât pile under makeup and is a great moisturizing base overall.
I definitely recommend this sunscreen for anyone who is looking for a new sunscreen to try - you will not be disappointed!PURITO - Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50+

This is another amazing chemical sunscreen!
âď¸ Why I love it:
itâs fragrance-free, paraben-free, comedogenic-free
itâs light, non-greasy, and non-sticky

itâs quick absorbing
itâs available in a tinted formula
âď¸ Verdict:
I 100% recommend! This is perfect for anyone with sensitive skin. You forget youâre wearing sunscreen when you wear this! Apply this 15 minutes before sun exposure and every 2 hours. Apply this after serums and before make up :)

Sunscreen With a Little Something Extra
Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40
I think we all know by now that we need to be wearing sunscreen everyday - not only does it protect our skin against harmful UVA and UVB rays that can lead to hyperpigmentation, cancer and other harmful effects to the skin but it can also help other skincare ingredients - Vitamin C specifically - do their job properly and fully. (The sun can actually deactivate Vitamin C, meaning that all that money that youâre spending on Vitamin C products is essentially a big, fat waste of money if youâre not using SPF!
These days, though, sunscreen and SPF can do so much more! Thatâs whatâs so great about the sunscreen that Iâm using and loving these days - Unseen Sunscreen by Supergoop. Not only is it a sunscreen/SPF thatâs protecting my skin everyday but it is also an amazing makeup-gripping primer - I love multi-functional products!
Advertised as a 100% invisible, 100% game-changing makeup-gripping primer with SPF 40, this award-winning formula is weightless, scentless and has a slightly glow effect that allows you to create any type of makeup, or no-makeup look.
Unseen Sunscreen contains clean, skin-soothing ingredients such as red-algae which helps protect skin against the blue light that is emitted by electronic devices such as your phone and computer! Frankincense helps the skin be resilient and provides a soothing effect. A complex made from Meadowfoam Seed increases hydration levels, resulting in a more even skin texture.
Iâve been using this product for about 3 months now and Iâm a big fan! As I mentioned, I love multi-functioning products! The fact that this is a sunscreen and SPF that protects my skin from UVA/UVB light, allows my Vitamin C and other skincare ingredients to do their job fully, protects against blue light from electronics AND is a makeup primer - thatâs definitely a win in my book!
The texture of Unseen Sunscreen was a bit surprising - it is more of an ointment texture - at least thatâs what it reminded me of! But it goes on so incredibly smoothly! Itâs so weightess that you can barely feel it going on your skin and you absolutely canât feel it once youâve applied it. It has absolutely no scent. If it werenât for the slight glow that it gives off, you wouldnât even know itâs there!
The price for Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40 is $32 for 1.7oz (or $16 for 0.5 oz) which is completely reasonable in and of itself. Once you consider, however, that youâre getting a sunscreen/SPF AND makeup primer in one product and you donât need to buy a second product for a makeup product, you really canât beat this price! As far as Iâm concerned, run - donât walk - to grab some Unseen Sunscreen from Supergoop!
Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40
Supergoop!-Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40
Iâve been using these two for about a week now but I do find myself using the Smooth and Poreless 100% Mineral Matte Screen especially when I have to be somewhere since it doubles as a primer! Well, they both do actually. đ
.
I super love the texture and finish of these two! Itâs super spreadable so a dime-size would suffice and it glides on so smoothly so it isnât a problem. My skin didnât get any irritation and it didnât feel heavy at all.
.
They both have that sunscreen scent but itâs subtle and it goes away after a while but itâs not too overwhelming. .
So hereâs my Supergoop! Sunscreen Comparison đđ
