Is a beta hydroxy acid (BHA) that occurs as a natural compound in plants. It has direct activity as an anti-inflammatory agent and acts as a topical antibacterial agent due to it’s ability to promote exfoliation. Benefits: 🔸 Fights acne 🔸 Decreses oil secretion 🔸 Reduces inflammation and redness 🔸 Removes dead skin cells Side effects: can irritate (peeling, redness) and dry on very sensitive skin. So, this ingredient is best known for it's exfoliating and bacteria-fighting powers, I like it because it’s not an aggressive acid and it works well cleaning the pores and get rid of pimples. Ulta & Marshall’s Hair & Skin Haul
What’s up my bargain basement bitches? Due to my recent unprecedented BREAKOUT on my damn chin/cheek/mustache area I decided it was time to use my Adult Money ™️ to purchase some new skin ~clearing~ items. Being that I work for the government, I am absolutely the furthest from raking in that dough, so bargains are v appealing to me. I’m an Ulta shopper, not sorry. I don’t give a dern about makeup and I find that Ulta has that good good, cruelty free, clean, & affordable skin care. Also fuck that elitist Sephora energy, my local Ulta has a salon in the back that I can only imagine is the equivalent of a set of Super Cuts side bangs. Featured in this haul: Ulta TULA SKINCARE - Keep It Clear Acne Foam Cleanser($34) TULA SKINCARE - The Cult Classic Purifying Face Cleanser (free sample) LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Adapalene Gel .01% Topical Retinoid Acne Treatment($30) COSRX - Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Power Essence on sale 50% off! ($12) Marshall’s Random ass Facial Steamer ($16) “ABSOLUTEHEAT” Pro Iron Series curling wand ($20) Golden Castor Oil with eyebrow/lash brushes ($7) AQUIS - Hair Towel Waffle Luxe Moody Gray($10) I have been using FIRST AID BEAUTY - FAB Skin Lab Retinol Serumand FIRST AID BEAUTY - FAB Skin Lab Retinol Eye Cream with Triple Hyaluronic Acid which are wonderful, especially the eye cream which completely blasted the dry patch near the corner of my eye that was there for MONTHS but I felt like tapering up a bit after introducing retinol for the first time about a month and a half ago. It is also likely that the breakout on my chin/cheeks is due to the retinol serum (I currently use 2-3x wk and don’t use any actives with it except for Mad Hippie - Triple C Night Creamwhich I’m prettty sure clogs the shit out of my pores but w/e). I will post a skin check-in tomorrow & eventually review these products after I work them into my routine. So far, so good! I will say the Tula SA cleanser had a super strong tea tree fragrance which isn’t a dealbreaker for me so much as a indicator of some powerful shit. Fingers crossed this gets the pesky comedones on my chin/upper lip to dissolve 🤓. In the meantime, comment below with your favorite sheet masks to use with the face steamer! I got it for my bf mostly, as well as an extraction toolkit because he likes to take things into his own hands with his skin and I respect that- so I got him some tools that can be sterilized & keep him from poking holes his face with my stolen embroidery needles.
MY ACNE JOURNEY! Part 2
I last left off on being helpless with no idea on what to do next for my face! I looked into the brand Tula and read about differin gel that I could purchase from target. I bought the Tula SA cleanser, Tula salicylic acid gel, differin gel, benzoyl peroxide 10% wash and got to work. AM Routine: •BP 10% wash •Tula Salicyclic acid gel •Skinceuticals Retexturing Activator •Osea Blemish balm moisturizer PM Routine: •SA cleanser •Differin Gel This routine has been a saving grace for me. I started this routine on 10/13/2020 and have been at it for about 2 months now (today is 12/8/2020). What I want you to take from my journey is that 1) damaging you skin barrier is a real thing and it can be detrimental to your skin’s health and 2) skincare routines take time to work. Stick with your routine for 4-6 weeks and if you still don’t notice a change, then you can revise your routine. I’m still researching and trying to find something to help with my scars. The skinceuticals retexturing activator has made a difference I think, but it hasn’t been dramatically different like I expected. The serum was $80 and I’m not sure if I will invest in it again. I do not currently have a favorite SPF that I use. I usually base my face with Ilia Skin Tint that has SPF 40 but it’s too dewy for my oily skin. Thinking about investing in EltaMD SPF. I think having a good SPF will make a difference in my scarring! If you have made it this far into my post, thank you for reading and please hit me with any questions you may have! It’s been a long journey for me so I’m sure I’ve left out some details. CURIOUS ABOUT THE INKEY LIST?
i have been a huge fan of the inkey list for years; their products are affordable, cruelty-free & predominantly vegan, and they only use necessary ingredients! here are a few products of theirs that i am currently using (plus some honourable mentions that i have previously used): 💫THE inkey LIST - Glycolic Acid Exfoliating Toner 💫 this 10% glycolic acid toner works wonders with no irritation or excessive dryness. previously, i used the pixi glow tonic to-go pads which is only 5% but the transition has been very peaceful! it helps to shrink and unclog pores as well as reduce fine lines. i use it every other night! 💫THE inkey LIST - Salicylic Acid Acne + Pore Cleanser 💫 this baby is a miracle-worker for acne. after years of using brands with harsh ingredients such as clean&clear and oxy, this cleanser is a breath of fresh air. it is gentle while quickly clearing up any severe breakouts i have. no tightness of the skin here! 💫NEW!! THE inkey LIST - Succinic Acid Acne Treatment 💫 as soon as i saw that the inkey list had a new pimple fighting product out, i sprinted to order it! this product contains 1% salicylic acid, 2% sulfur powder, and 2% succinic acid, a compound naturally found in the body to help control oil levels and unclog pores while also shrinking blemishes. while it is still new to me, i have found that it has shrunk my pimples as well as reduce the redness and pressure in them!! honourable mentions: 💫THE inkey LIST - Vitamin C Serum 30ml 💫 i used this when i was first getting into having a proper skincare routine. it had this incredible natural smell of what i can only describe as maple and it did truly help to even and brighten my complexion. i will say that it did not agree with broken or super sensitive skin! 💫THE inkey LIST - Caffeine Eye Cream 💫 i used this product more for puffiness and waking up my tired eyes rather than dark circles and i must say i enjoyed it! immediately after application, my eyes felt super alert and it even made ME feel more awake! i would definitely reconsider purchasing it after i am done my present eye cream. and that’s all folks!! i hope you enjoyed ;) please be sure to follow here and on my IG @chloebrk.mua #cheriecreator

These are my October/November empties: SAND&SKY - Australian Pink Clay Porefining Face Mask mini pink skys Australian clay mask. I really liked this sample, I found that my skin looked brighter and clearer after use, and it worked great on blemishes :) Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 also enjoyed using this sunscreen, I hate when spfs feel greasy and leave white casts, and this was clear and left my skin with a mattish finish. I would consider repurchasing, it’s just a bit pricey at $34 for 1.7oz. SOL de Janeiro - Brazilian Bum Bum Cream I love this so much! It smells amazing and it’s super hydrating, I already have the bigger size 😍 VERSED - FOUND THE LIGHT Powder With VC I liked how easy this was to add to any product (I was adding a couple of shakes to my morning moisturizer), but ultimately I don’t think it did much for my skin so I wouldn’t repurchase. CAUDALIE - Vinopure Natural Salicylic Acid Pore Minimizing Toner and CAUDALIE - Vinopure Pore Purifying Gel Cleanser both were great minis, and they lasted me a while. They smell amazing, and did their job. I would consider purchasing the full sizes in the future. THE inkey LIST - Niacinamide Oil Control Serum - not really an empty but it expired and turned a weird color so it’s time to toss. I like it and have another one that I will probably open soon. SKIN&CO - Truffle Therapy Face Toner - I liked this toner, I know people aren’t big fans of witch hazel but I find it works well for my skin. I got it in a FFF box and it lasted a while, but It’s expensive and nothing too special so I won’t be repurchasing. COSRX - Cosrx Acne Pimple Master Patch i liked these little patches, they’re affordable and do a great job of drawing out pimple gunk.
Sephora favorites samples worth it? 👀✨
When I saw this Sephora favorites bag, I really wanted to get it for the ren body serum and the caudalie gel cleanser. I debated if it was even worth it, I bit the bullet and got it. I’ve got to say these are worth it. It’s great that it includes a 15% off code for each item. The caudalie purifying gel cleanser is 1oz. The full size is $28 for 5oz so it comes out to $5.60 and oz. first time I tried it it felt really good on my face. Didn’t dry me out and if I end up loving it I’ll have to get the full size. CAUDALIE - Vinopure Pore Purifying Gel Cleanser Ren clean skincare body serum, this came in a great 1.7 oz. The full size is $42 for 6.8 oz. so it comes out to about $6 with some change. I’ve been using this for a couple days and it feels great on my skin. REN CLEAN SKINCARE - AHA Smart Renewal Body Serum Lancôme mascara. This is the mini 0.06oz. The full size is $25 for 0.33 oz, $13 for the 0.13 travel size so the mini 0.06 comes out to $6.50. Pretty nice mascara so far. It doesn’t clump up. LANCÔME - Monsieur Big Mascara Ouai hair oil. This came in the 0.33 mini size. The full size is $28 for 1.5 oz, $14 for 0.45 oz. This mini size I will assume it’s about $10-12. Just used this oil and it’s incredibly soft. The downside is the smell. It’s pretty heavy but it kinda smells like gardenia flowers to me. OUAI - OUAI Hair Oil Make up for ever ultra HD microfinishing loose powder. It’s in a tiny 1 g jar. The full size $36 for 8.5 g, $20 for 4 g travel size so the 1 g jar would be about $5. I’ve had this powder before and really likes it a lot. It’s super fine which I love. It sets my makeup well and hasn’t given me that many creases. MAKE UP FOR EVER - Ultra HD Microfinishing Loose Powder Versace perfume sample. In a very tiny spray. It’s 0.03 oz. The travel size in a spray is $30 for 0.3oz. So for 0.03 it would be about $3.75 I’ve had this in the travel size roller ball. Really nice perfume with flowery notes. I love the peony, lotus and magnolia scents. VERSACE - Bright Crystal Eau de Toilette This bag was definitely worth it to me. I ended up liking every single product. As in the price, I’d say it’s pretty good. Personally the value of the bag is more than the $10 I spent. This may definitely not be correct but this bag could have a value of about $37! The math could be way off but to me I really liked this. Have you tried or bought this bag, or are you not interested?
Kate Somerville Cleanser
Kate Somerville - ExfoliKate Cleanser Daily Foaming Wash This cream, foaming cleanser is formulated with AHAs and fruit enzymes to gently cleanse. It’s targeted for large pores, dark spots, dullness & uneven texture. It can be used on all skin types and I’ve personally found it great for improving acne. I decided to try it because I wanted a cleanser with acids to help reduce pore size and minimize acne without over drying. I also like that this would help with dullness. Everyone wants bright, glowing skin, am i right?! This is formulated with glycolic and lactic acid which can help refine the appearance of pores and help clear up any buildup and I found these acids work great with my oily/combination skin type. It’s definitely made my skin brighter and removed all traces of makeup. I found the cream to foam consistency to be hydrating and help minimize any active acne. Acids can be a little rough for your skin if you are not used to them, so I’d recommend using this every other day until you feel your skin can handle it daily. I typically only use this at night to remove all make up and oils. I would definitely recommend! I love that there are different sizes, so if you just wanted to give this a try, their smallest bottle is only $19!

Battle of the Face Cleansers
My skin type is combo oily that can lean more dry during the weather changes or just randomly. My skin concerns are acne, oiliness throughout the day and also dehydration. I’ve ranked the face washes I currently have open right now based on how they worked for me personally (starting from favorite). My all time favorite is COSRX - Low PH Good Morning Gel Cleanser because I can actually tell a difference in my skin, unlike the other cleansers and can be used AM and PM. . COSRX - Low PH Good Morning Gel Cleanser Key Ingredients: Tea Tree and Beta Hydroxy Acids (work together to refine pores, control oil, and soften skin). Texture/Consistency: Gel that turns to foam Scent: Very strong Tea Tree scent Price: $14 for 5.07 oz Experience: I use this as my AM cleanser and it does a good job of removing the previous night’s skincare and having a new base for my AM skincare. It foams a lot, so only need a small amount of product. Since I’ve been using this, my face has gotten more smooth and not as oily throughout the day. I knocked off a star since the scent is so strong of tea tree. Repurchase/Recommend?: I will repurchase this and recommend this because it’s a great value and only need a small amount of product. My combo oily skin also agrees with this formula, I’m so excited to use it this summer and see how and if it helps my skin. . MARIO BADESCU - Glycolic Foaming Cleanser Key Ingredients: Glycolic acid (exfoliates the skin and dissolves dulling dead skin cells to help refine pores and retexturize uneven skin), and a soothing blend of chamomile, marshmallow, safe, St. John’s wort, and yarrow extracts (work together to provide additional rejuvenating benefits that help re-balance and leave skin radiant). Texture/Consistency: Gel that turns to foam Scent: Price: $16 for 6 oz / 177 mL Experience: I use this maybe 2-3 times a week (as directed for oily skin) and haven’t noticed much of a difference in my skin. It performs just like any other cleanser to me. I use it as my second cleanse and it’s just meh. Honestly not impressed with this and glad I got it as a free sample. Repurchase/Recommend?: I would not repurchase or recommend this, I haven’t noticed any special benefit over any other cleanser. . philosophy - Clear Days Ahead Oil-Free Salicylic Acid Acne Treatment Cleanser Key Ingredients: Salicylic Acid (helps prevent breakouts). Texture/Consistency: Gel Scent: Very strong orange scent Price: $22 for 8 oz Experience: Even after using this a couple times a week as my second cleanse at night, I’ve only seen a minimal amount of reduction in my acne and can’t contribute it solely to this. The scent is so strong that I can smell it for a while after washing my face. It can be difficult to completely wash off the face. Repurchase/Recommend?: No, too expensive for what it does.
philosophy-Clear Days Ahead Oil-Free Salicylic Acid Acne Treatment Cleanser
I realized that despite being my favorite second cleanse of all time, I have never formally reviewed the iSCLINICAL Cleansing Complex! A low-pH runny gel cleanser, with willow bark and sugar cane extracts (natural sources of Salicylic and Glycolic Acid) and gentle surfactants to cleanse and decongest the skin. (Note, the pH is not low enough for the extracts to effectively exfoliate, but they certainly add to its decongesting properties). I was previously in the camp of ‘cleansers aren’t on the skin long enough to have effect’ but this cleanser was the first to change my mind almost two years ago. This cleanser is leap years ahead of the traditional cleansers marketed towards oily/acne skins. It is neither harsh nor remotely stripping to the skin, yet is still able to effectively prevent breakouts (congestion in particular, in my experience) by removing dirt, debris and dead skin cells to prevent build up within the pore. I’ve noticed that when I’ve gone through phases of opting for something like Glossier Milky Jelly instead - I will experience more congestion or inflamed breakouts than if I were using the Cleansing Complex consistently. I’ll admit, I’ll occasionally yearn for a more sensory experience with a fun-textured or heavenly-scented cleanser, and sometimes switch it out - but I’m always running back (sometimes within days) to this one. It’s fragrance-free, fuss-free and it does the job - and more. I would recommend this for combo-oily and in particular, acneic skins. Though I have seen people with drier skin types also use this with success.
iS CLINICAL-Cleansing Complex
the pore minimizing cleanser of my dreams
Holifrog Shasta AHA Refining Acid Wash - • Price: $38 for 4 fl. oz. • Skin type: oily, combo, and dry • Product function: a cleanser that works to clear each pore to reveal smooth, glassy skin • Target concerns: breakouts, congestion, large pores, dullness, and texture • Key ingredients: Glycolic, mandelic, lactic, tartaric, and citric acids; lime extract, tamanu oil, rosehip oil and aloe vera • Texture: a translucent, white, and moderately thick gel • Fragrance: unscented; just a clean tangy scent How I use it: At night as my second cleanse My opinion: I was gifted this cleanser along with the entire Holifrog line from Poke PR. This is the most gentle exfoliating cleanser that I have ever tried. It effectively dissolves all traces of debris and dead skin without leaving my skin feeling stripped or tight. When I first used this product, I didn’t like it that much because it doesn’t lather or foam, but then I learned that it was specifically formulated not to lather to prevent strpping of the skin. I am not a huge fan of the smell, but I don’t mind it that much because the product is so good. After using this, my skin feels clean, clear, and ready to take on the rest of my routine. I really enjoy using this at night after a long day out and about to wash away all of the grime from the day. I do think that the price is a little high, but there is no other product like Shasta on the market. I definitely recommend Shasta to anyone looking for a new cleanser that struggles with congestion and breakouts. HOLI FROG - Shasta AHA Refining Acid Wash
HOLI FROG-Shasta AHA Refining Acid Wash
Oil Control Skincare Product
OLEHENRIKSEN Find Your Balance Oil Control Cleanser This product is marketed as a pore-purifying cleanser that has powerful AHAs to help reduce excess oil and unclog pores, without stripping the skin. It is used to help reduce oiliness, minimize pores, and help prevent acne and blemishes. This cleanser contains glycolic and lactic acids which help to loosen and lift dead skin cells and help to prevent build up on the skin. It claims to help refresh your complexion and bring a healthy-looking glow to the skin. The texture of this cleanser is a little thick, but a little goes a long way! My favorite thing about the cleanser is how easily it lathers up! So I decided to try this product because I was looking for a cleanser that would help prevent acne and blemishes. I have been using this product for a year now and I love it!! As someone that has dry skin, I was very hesitant to try this product out as I thought it was going to dry my skin out. However, this product didn’t dry my skin at all and helped me prevent any blemishes. It helped me attain healthier-looking skin and made my skin look and feel super refreshed. This cleanser retails for $26 on Sephora, and I think it is really worth it! I would recommend this product to others as I feel that it could work on many skin types and help prevent any acne or breakouts!
