Today is my WISHTREND Black Friday box opening day! Can you imagine how excited š Iām have been looking at the box for two weeks before I get it out of quarantine. The longest two weeks ever!!!
I tried COSRX - Low PH Good Morning Gel Cleanser
Dec. 20, 2020
Product Mentioned
Tried, wouldn't buy.
So I received this sample of the LANEIGE - Cream Skin Toner & Moisturizer in a Sephora package and thought the idea of a toner/moisturizer duo seemed like a good idea! While there may be duos out there that work brilliantly, this did not make the cut for me. It's creamy, but it dries into a weird oily/sticky feel on the face. I had washed my face and applied this and nothing else (hoping it would dry??) After an hour I formed two small little pustules on my nose and my skin felt tacky and looked oily.
Tried it, wouldn't buy it!

To purchase list (TPL)- YES or NO?
alpyn beauty - PlantGenius Melt Moisturizer While I only got two 2 of this in 1 day, am & pm, I was able to determine itās not for me. The scent was off-putting, a very natural scent which I wouldnāt mind if it didnāt linger. Itās also got some oils in it that can be irritating. At $60 this is a very pricey moisturizer. It claims the benefits of Bakuchiol (retinol alternative), Squalane and Vitamin C BUT you donāt see these ingredients until over half way through the ingredient list! TPL - NO
REN CLEAN SKINCARE - Evercalm Overnight Recovery Balm $49 I really liked this. I like to really moisturize up at night so I would add my nightly moisturizer and top off with a thin layer of this balm. I had no issues with a sticky mess and my hair (or pet hair) all over my face as I have had with a previous balm. One āļø taken for fragrance. TPL - YES
DIOR - Capture Dreamskin Care & Perfect A gorgeous primer/serum but incredibly overpriced at $120! Not as fragrant as some Iāve used before being it has the added fragrance but there are more reasonably priced options available, Tatchaās primer even being half the price! TPL - NO
TATCHA - The Silk Peony Melting Eye Cream $60 This eye cream is THICK! Itās more like a balm that is meant to melt into your skin. For me it was hard to spread around my eye area. I would try to warm up between my fingers first but just didnāt find it easy to work with. Iām not a fan of using fragrance around my eyes either. While I love Tatcha I have other eye creams Iād rather use. I also did not like product in this type of container, very small and not sanitary given the texture. TPL - NO
SUNDAY RILEY - Good Genes All in One Lactic Acid Treatment $120. I believe Iāve talked about this one before. It is such a small sample but a tiny (pea-size) amount is only needed. So I was able to determine this was non-irritating to my skin. Itās got a pretty decent ingredient list except for the fragrance. I prefer using Farmacyās Honeymoon Glow with AHA & BHA at half the price. TPL - NO
Murad - Rapid Age Spot and Pigment Lightening Serum $72. While I initially thought this was working for me Iāve realized it may have brightened some areas of skin but did not help fade or reduce my spots. A pretty simple serum to use with no issues in my routine.
TPL - NO
LANEIGE - Cream Skin Toner & Moisturizer $33 A HIGHLY popular toner that has a pretty simple ingredient list. I love a good hydrating toner and this hits the spot! Itās easy to transfer from my hands to my face and my skin drinks it up. I was able to add as many layers as Iād like without any side effects. Only downside is Laneige is not cruelty free. TPL - NO

Overhyped products; didnāt see a difference
Iāve used these products consistently over the period of a couple months (not necessarily in combination with each other). I havenāt noticed a difference and realize I donāt particularly love the feel of serums and oils. Hereās my review of each product individually and one ordinary product that I do feel like makes a difference.
PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator
I was super excited to try and love this product and was mainly wanting help with blackheads on my nose. I havenāt noticed a difference even when using the product twice a day for a couple months. The product is very oily and itās easy to get all over the bottle. Not a toner that can be used without a cotton pad
The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5
I donāt love the textures of these products and am disappointed not seeing a difference after using consistently and over half the bottle is gone.
dear, klairs - Freshly Juiced Vitamin C Drop
This product is very oily. I want to include vitamin C in my skincare routine but just didnāt enjoy this particular one.
e.l.f. - Happy Hydration Cream
I love all of elfās products and bought this thinking I would love it. It leaves a white cast and I donāt like the feel when I put this moisturizer on, because of this I have been using it just at night I order to not waste the product. Elf has much better products than this one for sure!
One product I do like:
The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution
Iāve started using this once a week and believe it is helping with my blackheads. It is drying and I have sensitive skin so if youāre like me I would suggest only once a week for 8 min and consider a hydrating mask afterwards.

Amazing Brand and Cleansing Oil
The new cleansing oil, I recently opened it and so far itās really gentle. Itās lightweight, it contains ingredients like sunflower oil, grape seed oil, black currant oil, and jojoba seed oil. It doesnāt leave my skin feeling dry after cleansing and it removes makeup and any impurities.
Have you tried this brand and do you like it? Comment below.

You Need An Oil -Based Cleansers: Deep + Gentle
š¤BANILA CO - Clean It Zero Cleansing Balm Original stole my heart
- this cleanser is so amazing for deep cleansing, make up removal and sunscreen. As you gently massage the balm onto your skin it melts into a milky clear oil that works into the skin smoothly with no clumping or grains. You can massage pressure points on your face for effective lymphatic drainage. Even comes with a little scoop!
āļø For a quick and brightening at-home facial šš½āāļø massaging gently for 15 minutes focusing on different sections of your face. The sebum plugs and blackheads around my nose and cheeks literally fall out and itās so satisfying, but kind of gross š
- Check out L.A. Beautyologist on YouTube for her Deep Oil Cleansing Routine š¤
- Sherbert-like cleanser is infused with vitamin C šand A-rich acerola extract, papaya extract, rooibos leaf extract, and bamboo extract
- Formulated without:
⢠Parabens
⢠Sulfates
⢠Phthalates
⢠Mineral oil
⢠Alcohol
⢠Artificial coloring
š¤ As someone with very oily skin shouldnāt I stay away from āoil based cleansersā
- a common misconception, but water is effective to remove excess face oils because water and oil molecules naturally repel one another. So in order for typical water-based cleansers š¦ to remove naturally occurring facial oils, water-based products often have surfactants that may be harsh and stripping for many sensitive-faced folks like myself :)
- The Tea š

Many companies capitalize on our lack of knowledge surround oil-based cleansing and market products as āoil-freeā making us think they will work better for our oily skin. This marketing, just perpetuates the idea that oil is bad for your skin, when we should be seeking to nourish our skin, not strip it.
š¤ What if I have combination/dry skin, I donāt want to get rid of whatever moisture I have?
- Luckily, many oil cleansers are very moisturizing and help reinforce our natural skin barrier, as most oil-cleansers are not made to be stripping. Korean skin care is traditionally centered around the idea of hydrating, calming, and nourishing. They incorporate natural and unique ingredients like Cica, Snail Mucin, and Green tea šµ.
Great gentle cleansers to explore:
dear, klairs - Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil
PURITO - From Green Cleansing Oil
DHC - Deep Cleansing Oil
POND'S - Cold Cream Cleansing Balm
- To ensure youāre getting the most effective ingredient for your skin type look at the differences between linoleic and oleic acids naturally occurring chemicals on our skin!
Depending on your skin type you may be deficient in linoleic or oleic acids, and they are wonderful soothing and smoothing ingredients.
*Donāt get obsessed researching, š©š½āš»š but itās good to know what your skin is lacking (i.e. hydration). best way to see if a product works for you is to try it yourself

EGF and what it does
š«EGF - Epidermal Growth Factorš«
Save this if aging/dehydrated skin is your concern š
Our skin changes as we ageā³.. It becomes thinner, its cellular renewal process slows down and canāt hold moisture as effectively.
EGF ć°ļø a protein that stimulates cell growth and has wound healing properties.
However, if you have concerns, stick to daily SPF + a good retinoid product and the pair works just fine in anti-aging. My suggestion is always read up legit sources before committing on any product.
This power ingredient is one to look out for in your skincare.
Products with EGF worth a try. I only tried one which I've rated.

Awesome ingredients
dear, klairs - Klairs Midnight Blue Youth Activating Drop
I have been wanting to try this for the longest time. I received the product and immediately using it.. I was sold by the ingredients.. and the colour! Com'on!! Such nice blue...
I have been concentrating on dealing with acne issues, that I have neglected anti aging products. I was so excited to try this out and bought 2 bottles straightaway! Only been using this for 2 weeks and I can feel my skin soft and supple.
The consistency is just watery, non sticky nor greasy. very pleasant toner like serum. It's meant to lighten your redness and i did see my redness go down. it's really a calming serum. I will persist in the usage so as to see long term results..

StriVectin - Super-C Retinol Brighten & Correct Vitamin C Serum
This product has made my skin feel more hydrated and my skin has been glowing ever since I started the product. This actually gave me instant results by the second day and I love it! The formula is super light weight, non-sticky and absorbs quick. It does have a light citrusy scentš.Although, I try to refrain from scented products for my face but this was an exception because this really worked for me. So if youāre looking for a serum to add to your skincare routine I would highly recommend this product!
Texture: not to watery, just about right.

Best cleanser for acne prone skin
For #fridayfavorites I want to highlight a #cultfavorite COSRX - Low PH Good Morning Gel Cleanser
After hearing so many good things about this cleanser I had to try it. I ordered it from Stylevana and was happy that the order arrived in a week! For 11 CAD I think itās value for money considering how good this cleanser is.
Itās very gentle on my skin and I tend to use this cleanser more often than others. It has a gel like consistency and is not too foamy and a little goes a long way. It washes away impurities without stripping my skin.
It has a low PH which is said to be effective in protecting our skinās acid mantle. #acidmantle protects the skin from harmful bacteria that can cause acne and other skin problems. Low ph cleansers are also good for people with eczema and dryness.
FUN FACT: did you know this product was crowd sourced!! Customers gave feedback to @cosrx asking for a low ph cleanser and they delivered! Isnāt that awesome!

The perfect toner for dry, sensitive skin!
Did you know this toner is made with 77.78% rice extract?
PRODUCT:
@imfrom_global Rice Toner is a dual layer toner consisting of a water layer and emulsion layer. This toner is meant to prevent water loss, eliminate dead skin cells and provide hydration to rebalance skin.
MY THOUGHTS:
Iāve been using this toner on and off for a few months and I find myself reaching for it every time my skin feels dry and/or dull. It has a lightweight texture that absorbs quickly and feels really soft and smooth upon application. I have noticed some brightening effects but not much. This toner is amazing for dry, sensitive skin. It has this fresh, cooling feeling I love! Definitely recommend
SIDE NOTE:

Current Products I'm Using
I have oil/combo skin and been struggling with hormonal acne for a few years now which is mainly around my chin. I have noticed some positive changes but also some negative ones, for example I have more blackheads in areas besides my nose which I never had before. Here are the products I've been using lately.
AM Routine
I don't cleanse in the morning just splash water on my face and pat dry, then I apply PAULA'S CHOICE - Resist C15 Super Booster after I apply moisturizer e.l.f. - Holy Hydration! Face Cream - Fragrance Free then sunscreen Supergoop! - Play Everyday Lotion SPF 50 With Sunflower Extract
PM Routine
During the day I don't wear much makeup just some mascara so I just use GARNIER - SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water with Rose Water for my first cleanse, then I go in with PAULA'S CHOICE - Pore Normalizing Cleanser which I am just about out of so I will be using CeraVe - Salicylic Acid Facial Cleanserwhich I haven't tried before but decided to buy it because of all the hype! Than I apply my toner and depending on my skin at the time I will either use PAULA'S CHOICE - Pore-Reducing Toner or I'm from - Rice Toner I have just recently purchased and starting using The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% then I moisturizer with THE inkey LIST - Peptide Moisturizer
I use PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator twice a weeks and PAULA'S CHOICE - 1% Retinol Treatment with Peptides + Vitamin C 3 times a week.
My skin is still breaking out so I'm gonna try eliminating certain products to see if I can pin point what is causing the breakouts and blackheads. I recently purchased a cleansing brush and I'm gonna start by eliminating the Paulas choice BHA Exfoliator and start using the brush 2 or 3 times a week instead. If that's not the problem then I'm gonna try taking out the Vitamin C. If anyone has any advice or tips I am all ears!!!

My empties and its replacements š
Hi everyone!!! I wanted to round up a few products that Iāve used and emptied (or nearly emptied) in the past few months and share a few thoughts and what Iāve replaced them with š. All these products got the BOOT from my skincare routine - not bc they sucked but bc Iāve want to try something new and see what all the rage is about in these products Iāve picked up!
Toner
ļæ¼So I recently learned from@skindocminaand@Culskinthat toner isnāt necessary š but Iāve seen really great things about the Neogen real ferment essence. My favorite k-beauty bloggers mentioned it and so I wanted to try. So far, I really love the texture of the toner because itās not extremely watery where it slips right off, but itās got a littttle bit of density to it. The indie Lee toner is alright, no complaints! Really love the spritzer bottle but the product itself is average IMO!
Moisturizer
ļæ¼ive been really on the hunt for a nice, rich moisturizer for the winter months. This indie Lee moisturizer was just alright for me. It has a little bit of a pepperminty smell but it doesnāt really run into the skin quite well. It leaves a white cast if itās not worked into the skin. Iāve seen so many rave reviews of this moisturizer from the likes of Hyram and others, so I had to try! I havenāt opened yet but will let you know š
Sunscreen
ļæ¼Sunscreen is CRUCIAL everyday, every season. Iāve used up my Supergoop completely and though it feels nice on the skin, I almost feel paranoid that itās clogging my pores since it acts like a primer as well. Because Iām not wearing makeup these days, I want a more light, breathable sunscreen. Iāve heard this Klairs one is amazing, so I had to try!
Have you tried any of these? How did you like them??
jenny
quick post-workout skincare - itās important!
As a D3 student-athlete (any fellow lax players on here??), weightlifting and working out is a huge part of my life, and since delving more into skincare, Iāve realized how important post-workout skincare is. Since we are in quarantine, I work out at home, but during normal times, Iād be in a gym with lots of other peopleās sweat and germs all around me, and thatās just not fun for skin!
A lot of the time Iāll have to wake up at 5:30am to do a morning lift, and often Iāll have to do a practice in the afternoon, and Iāve found that this routine works for any time of the day if I donāt have time to do a full wash-up right after.
So hereās what I do to take care of my skin after a workoutāwhether that be at home, at a gym, or on the field!
I typically start off by splashing my face with water and use a clean washcloth to gently tap my face dry. I wet the washcloth and wipe the sweat from my chest and back.
Then, I go in with my GARNIER - SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water with Rose Water to clean off that sweat and dirt.
Next, I use #BOBBI BROWN - Face Mist[products]#[FiveStars] to calm and hydrate. Iām running out of this face mist so I might consider making my own face mist or buy the J.R. WATKINS - Heritage Store Rosewater & Glycerin Spray because Iāve heard good things about it.
Finally, I seal in the moisture with The Ordinary - 100% Organic Cold Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil .
If the sun is still out, I will layer on a sunscreen because that is literally the most important step! I love dear, klairs - Soft Airy UV Essence SPF 50 PA ++++ , although with the Purito controversy, there is concern that itās not as protective as they claim. Another sunscreen thatās ok to use is Neutrogena - Hydro Boost Water Gel Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30 .
If I feel I need it, I might use some PANTENE - Never Tell Dry Shampoo to just freshen up my hair a bit.
This routine just ties me over until I can take my nightly shower and do my nightly routine. It certainly leaves me feeling refreshed and ready for the ready of the day, especially after exhausting workouts!

Is your skin craaazy dry? Read my doās and donāt
Iāve got very dry skin in the colder months. I also live in a dry environment. Iāve put together some general doās and donts that work for me when my skin is seriously dry. Now, please note that I enjoy 99% of the products Iām going to mention, but some I just have to reserve for using in warmer months when my skin is less dry.
DO pay attention to what kind of first cleanse you use. I like FORMULA 10.0.6 - Bare Face Beauty Skin-Hydrating Cleansing Oil because it breaks down my makeup and leaves my skin feeling soft. DONāT use a first cleanse that dries your skin out like the GOOD MOLECULES - Instant Cleansing Balm (a little bit drying)
DO look at ingredients lists and brand descriptions of cleansers. Opt for something with a gel or milky texture that either doesnāt lather are all, or barely lathers. I enjoy the bareMinerals - Pureness Gel Cleanser (but not if youāre sensitive to coconut). DONāT use a cleanser with harsh acids, such as salicylic acid in the TRULY - CBD Jelly Anti Acne Facial Cleanser , because they can dry out your skin even more.
DO use a hydrating toner. I love the PAULA'S CHOICE - Resist Advanced Replenshing Toner because it contains hyaluronic acid and has a soothing, milky texture. DONāT use toners with astringent properties or essential oils like the MARIO BADESCU - Witch Hazel & Lavender Toner (I steaigjt is just donāt really like this even when my skin isnāt super dry). Toners with those ingredients can dry your skin out further.
DO layer and mix serums (make sure you do some research first!). I enjoy the Wyldflower Labs - Sunshine Serum - Multitasking Day Repair Serum and LILY SADO - Green Tea + Vitamin C Super Serum .
DO use some chemical exfoliants when experiencing a breakout, but be careful to use a concentrated spot application. I like the PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator because it is effective and can be easily applied in an affected area. I use this 1-3x/wk in the PM. DONāT use harsh chemical exfoliants and donāt use them too frequently. The YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Kombucha + 11% AHA Exfoliation Power Toner is very strong. It can cause irritation, especially on dry areas, and if used to often has caused white heads.
DO moisturize! I love the pixi - Rose Ceramide Cream when I have stubborn dry patches that wonāt go away. I also like the unscented, soothing GOOD MOLECULES - Silicone-Free Priming Moisturizer . DONāT use a moisturizer thatās not geared towards extra dry skin like the Clark's Botanicals - Jasmine Vital Cream While this is a nice moisturizer, its light gel texture is more suited for normal-oily skin, or dry skin in the summer.

Krave Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser & Kale-Lalu-yAHA šæ
This jelly textured cleanser is a joy to use. Itās never drying nor strips the skin. I end up with skin thatās clean, hydrated and soft. This cleanser contains antioxidant powerhouse matcha. Matcha is a form of green tea with an exponential number of antioxidants like polyphenols such as EGCG in comparison to regular green tea. The green tea plants are grown in the shade for a few weeks prior to processing which increases the chlorophyll levels šµ
This cleanser is perfect if you want a gentle cleanser packed full of antioxidants that wonāt dry your skin out. The texture is just plain funļ¼
I love acid toners as I prefer chemical exfoliation. Kale-Lalu-yAHA uses 5.25% glycolic acid to gently yet effectively exfoliate the skin. I love that this acid toner also contains antioxidant packed dark leafy greens like kale, spinach and parsley.
Itās well rounded as itās combined with soothers and hydrators like hyaluronic acid, aloe, allantoin and B5. Thereās a few extras like chlorella minutissima extract (an antioxidant packed algae) & malachite extractāa powerful antioxidant that seeks out free radicalsć
Kale-Lalu-yAHA has become my all time favorite acid toner (besides P50) for its ability to be effective and gentle at the same timeļ¼

Protecting Your Skin
š¼ I have combo skin leaning more dry (probably because I live in Southern California which is essentially a coastal desert and also full of smog and sun so I need all the protection I can get)
š¼ My skin is currently in a pretty good place where it falls more in the normal range but I do still get occasional breakouts and bouts of oiliness and dryness
š¼ Hereās some of my favorite products for protecting my skin:
š¼ Krave Beauty Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser: This is a great affordable gel cleanser thatās packed with antioxidants. Anything which Matcha in it is going to be packed with antioxidants. Hemp is also a great ingredient for keeping the skin soothed and hydrated. I like to use this as a morning cleanse or a second evening cleanse.
š¼ Youth to the People Suberberry Hydrate + Glow Dream Mask: This stuff is magic. It contains Maqui Berry which is actually the most antioxidant rich fruit in the world as well as vitamin C and moisturizing Squalane. I use this at night after my moisturizer and it leaves my skin feeling so soft and bright. My favorite mask of all time.
š¼ Farmacy Very Cherry Bright Serum: This is an awesome vitamin C serum to protect your skin during the day from pollutants, UV rays, blue light, etc. I really like this for my combo skin because itās a lightweight gel that contains four different types of hyaluronic acid and keeps my skin hydrated and plump but not oily or sticky. I use this every morning after my toners and before oils/moisturizers.
š¼ Purito Green Level Safe Sun: Never forget sunscreen. Itās the absolute most important product you can use to protect your skin. I love this because itās affordable, lightweight, and doesnāt leave a white cast. I apply this after moisturizer in the mornings (and donāt forget to reapply every 2 hours)
PURITO-Centella Green Level Safe Sun
My Current Morning Routine
āļø My routines are pretty prone to changing but one constant is that I always like to focus on protecting and nourishing my skin with antioxidants and obviously a sunscreen. These are my current morning favorites:
āļø Alta Mara Hydrating Coconut Cleanser: Just as the name suggests, itās a lovely gentle milky cleanser.
āļø Klairs Supple Preparation Toner: A lovely hydrating toner rich in amino acids, centella, licorice root, and hyaluronic acid.
āļø Byroe Bitter Greens Toner Essence: If this was a little cheaper I would never be without it. This contains 22 fruit and vegetable extracts and is chock full of antioxidants making my skin super soft and glowy.
āļø Farmacy Cheer Up Eye Cream: A lightweight whipped texture vitamin c eye cream.
āļø Rosen Bright Citrus Serum: A very watery consistency (like actually the exact consistency of water) abscorbic acid vitamin c serum.
āļø Mauve Fantastic Ever Youth Producer Serum: A hydrating antioxidant serum containing hyaluronic acid, sugar kelp, hemp seed extract, and orchid extract.
āļø Sunday Riley CEO Glow: Another vitamin c but put it in an oil base with some turmeric!! I love this stuff it gives me the softest glowiest skin.
āļø Krave Oat So Simple Water Cream: A nice hydrating lightweight moisturizer.
āļø Purito Centella Green Level Unscented Sunscreen: Just an amazing lightweight sunscreen thatās super affordable and has a bunch of centella in it.
My Morning & Night Routine

*the beet shield: this is the first sunscreen Iāve ever used and Iām already stocked up after this one runs out. It isnāt oily, it doesnāt leave a cast, and it leaves me with a glow!
*matcha hemp cleanser: this cleanser doesnāt leave a tight feeling on my face and hydrates my skin :) it still does the job even when I skip oil cleansing
*great barrier relief: anytime I use a new product or overuse a product that breaks me out, this serum is really good at calming my skin down. I canāt layer it with too many things but the purpose is to reset your skin
*toner: this toner makes my skin feel really soft. when i first used it it tingled a lot, so I only use it 2 times a week max when Iām not using my mandelic acid. also i only use a little bc using too much hurts my face
Through any products I have tried, Iāve always turned back to these and plan on reordering when I run out :)
