💤First Impressions: Brooklinen Mulberry Silk 🐛
Growing up a lot of my friends used silk wraps & bonnets to protect their natural hair or wigs. I’m familiar with silk from my work in fashion, but basically only knew that it’s expensive & difficult to work with. 🛏 Silk pillowcases showed up on my radar again last year after one of my friends who frequently colors her hair passed along the recommendation from her stylist brother. I tried a satin wrap she gave me for a while, but I still tossed & turned so much, it would always slip off & get lost somewhere behind my bed every night. Silk or satin can help prevent breakage & moisture loss as well as extend the lifespan of your blowout or style. 🐛The benefits are actually just as good for skin as they are for hair. SKIN BENEFITS: • 18 amino acids, the same 18 your skin has & a with a similar protein structure • Naturally non-absorbent to prevent moisture loss • Texture also helps prevent fine lines & wrinkles • Hypoallergenic, doesn’t attract dust mites & is a natural fungal repellent. This can help symptoms of many things including ACNE, allergies & eczema • Dense fabric structure repels dust & bacteria to protect your pillow from accumulating dust mites as well • Regulates body temp HAIR BENEFITS: Inherently smoother than other fabrics & natural moisture loss prevention, it keeps your hair shiny, less tangled, with less breakage or hair loss. What’s wrong with cotton? Cotton is a wonderful & versatile fabric, why it’s used a lot in daily life. Most uses for cotton are to keep our bodies dry & comfortable; think towels, Tshirts & socks... They absorb our sweat & bathwater so well, your cotton pillowcase is actually taking some moisture from your skin while you sleep. If you aren’t a good sleeper, you could be doing even more skin damage by the extra tugging, pulling & pressing into folds. SILK vs SATIN Silk is an organic fiber, while the term Satin refers to type of fabric weave or finish. It can be made from anything from silk blends to synthetics like rayon, polyester & nylon. Most satin is polyester. Satin may allow for less friction on your skin & hair, but it doesn’t offer the benefits package of silk. Satin is (most often) vegan though. How is Silk made? From long, thin water-insoluble fibers made by Silkworms during larval stage. The insect's intent is to create a cocoon for its transformation into future moth form. Workers simply unravel the cocoons, each can produce 325–1000 ft. of fine, very strong thread. What to know before purchasing: •THE MOMME -Silk is measured by fabric weight, not thread count. A decent Momme is 19-25. Higher #=stronger fabric •Long fibers=soft/Grade 6A=best •Mulberry Silk -From silkworms that eat only Mulberry leaves, creating long & uniform strands brooklinen - Mulberry Silk Pillowcase Knew it would be an expensive purchase, did a lot of research to select Brooklinen: 💕22 Momme/Mulberry silk $59 each. There are less $ options w/ same specs, but Brooklinen offer returns after 365 days!

K-Beauty Does it Again 💚😍
The k-beauty craze has been sweeping the nation, and I'm loving it! Prime ingredients, cute packaging, and innovative products are taking the western beauty world by storm! The Laneige lip mask has been one of the most hyped K-Beauty products of the last 2 years, and it's popularity only keeps growing! I use this lip mask all day long! They market it as a night mask, but it's always in bag.. during cold Canadian winters I am constantly applying this! I find this product is effective at keeping my chapped lips at bay, but there are plenty of products on the market that can do the same thing. I don't think this product is really worth it, but it always makes a nice gift! Will I repurchase - I've purchased 3 of these and love using them, but I'm going to look for a drugstore dupe since these are pretty pricey!
SOFTEST LIPS EVER?!?💋🌸🎀💞
I love everything pink. Clearly. So to say I initially bought the lip sleeping mask because it's pink would not be a lie. 😂 I first tried the LANEIGE - LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask and felll in love right away. I first tried the mini/sample in a Sephora favorites a year or so ago and got the full size shortly after that. Using this every night before bed SERIOUSLY gives me the softest lips EVER! Then just recently I purchased the LANEIGE - Lip Glowy Balm and it is just as good as the sleeping mask! This balm looks SO GOOD on the lips, it give them a glossy glow, without the stickiness of a gloss! Theres is also the slightest pink tint to the berry one. I LOVE THEM BOTH!
🕷🕯Friday the 13th & feelin cute!🕯🕷
I try not to be superstitious about a day or a number, but I still find myself thinking about it🤔 🍂It’s really feeling like Fall! Had the first snow of the season the other day, but now it’s just raining a lot🌧 Before I took better care of my skin, I rarely took selfies without makeup on, I just didn’t feel cute. Now I feel cute with a glowing face full of skincare & have kinda ditched makeup (which personally, also helped my skin tremendously!) I felt extra cute today & just wanted to chill & get cozy, but we have guests right now, so I decided to throw on my fav mascara & gloss for fun. ➡️ Everything on my skin, lashes & lips is in the next photo. GIVENCHY - Phenomen’eyes Mascara Is my ultimate favorite mascara! I truly miss the brown shade this used to come in, but that’s just me, loved it for my lashes (& brows when I was lazy) The brown shade was not great for every look, but it was so soft & natural looking. This black shade is your basic, classic black, I’m just so in love with the formula & applicator. 🏰The comb reminds me of that medieval spikey ball weapon thing. Love it. It makes it super easy for me to control where I’m applying, & keep it light, feathery & clump-free (my personal preference for an everyday mascara look) I love how i can just sort of “kiss” my lashes with this product, especially the bottom line, so effectively. ✔️You can definitely get a more dramatic effect with this mascara if that’s what you’re going for! 🖤The thing I love most is how the formula really holds my curl throughout the day! My tricks for lashes is start with a great curler. This will be different for everyone, because we all have different eye shapes. My eyes are not deep set at all. My lashes aren’t particularly long, but my lashes sometimes graze the inside of sunglasses for instance... My perfect eyelash curler has a less pronounced curve than most standard American market curlers, which helps get me the perfect curl with no pinching at all! 🛍I also use a FREE spoolie (yes I’m that bitch at Sephora) to comb out any clumps. SHISEIDO - Shiseido Eyelash Curler I also always have these on hand, so I’m never with a cracked/split one, save your eyes from injury & hidden bacteria: SHISEIDO - SHISEIDO Eyelash Curler Pad I wish Sephora carried these! They’re only $6/2 pack-but annoying/wasteful to buy without free shipping-unless I buy tons lol. *i always curl BEFORE mascara! As the mascara is kinda drying I use clean fingers to sort of push them up to curl a bit more & have it hold! ⚠️You may be tempted to use a curler at some point AFTER mascara. Though I did it 1,000x without incident, the one time I pulled out over half my top line was it for me! Proceed with caution. DIOR - Lip Glow Oil So moisturizing & not sticky! Lips look alive & plump!💕 NEST FRAGRANCES - Bamboo Candle 🕯Jasmine/Amber vibes, warm, perfect for Fall🍂
CHOOSE YOUR FIGHTER-Rayon, Cotton, Poly or Silk?
TEAM SILK BABY: brooklinen - Large Silk Scrunchies $32/set of 3 I absolutely love these! They’re made from 100% 22 Momme Mulberry Silk🐛 Some brands that make quality Silk pillowcases don’t actually make their scrunchies out of the exact same type of Silk. ☁️Read my ‘First Impressions on Brooklinen’ post to find out all about Silk & the benefits for your hair (& skin) I love that these fit my thick hair without feeling like I’ll break them. They still have tons of ruffles when stretched, & the elastic inside is actually thick! I showed buns in the photos, but it fits all of hair perfectly with just one, strong, secure & so comfortable. I noticed they stretched a bit in size after first use (see photos) but no further stretching & perfectly strong. If you have thick hair I highly recommend. scünci - Scrunchies $7/set of 12 I know they make bigger ones called ponytail scrunchies, sold individually, but the scrunchies in this pack of 12 were way smaller than I remember Scünci pack scrunchies being before, & they’re not labeled mini or anything. I hate when scrunchies have no excess fabric when stretched to max, so there’s basically no ruffles to speak of when I use it for my thick hair. I also broke a lot of them🤦🏻♀️ I can only assume the fabric is Polyester based on the little pilling on it, but the fabric isn’t disclosed on the packaging🤔 Works for a half tail I guess, I do adore this sage green shade so much. /kit·sch/ - Microfiber Towel Scrunchies $18/set of 2 85% Biconstituent fiber (Polyester & Polyamide)/15% Polyester Biconstituent aka bicomponent fiber is made of two materials, utilizing the desired properties from each. I was a little disappointed by their fabric choice. Polyester is hydrophobic, meaning polyester fabrics don’t absorb fluids like perspiration or water, & Polyamide is considered a water resistant material, no matter what its design properties are. (Sorry for nerding out- I used to be in the fashion industry) However, these are super cute, fluffy & more convenient than a traditional towel, because I don’t use a hair dryer. But they don’t really dry your hair. /kit·sch/ - Eco-Friendly Towel Scrunchies $18/set of 2 65% Bamboo Rayon/35% Organic Cotton Rayon is a semi-synthetic fiber made by chemically reshaping cellulose. Cellulose extracted from bamboo can be suitable for processing into viscose rayon (also made from cellulose from other sources) This one dries better better because it’s actually made of absorbent materials! Yay! But isn’t as fluffy, soft or thick, as you can see in the photos if you swipe. I would love these if they were made thicker (which is totally possible with these fabrics) Both versions have a 5.5” diameter, but these are so much thinner than the original. If your hair is thin, one is probably enough, but I like to use both at the same time. Reviews of all the Kitsch towel wraps, both reg & eco-friendly🔜
💊First Impressions: HUM vitamins & supplements
HUM is a supplement brand with a philosophy & huge product range dedicated to beauty nutrition. Pure, non-GMO, sustainably sourced & gluten-free! They also have all your basic vitamin/mineral needs covered, as well as curated blends for more specific issues. The line up is pretty impressive: over 30 different options for everything from healthy digestion probiotics, to wrinkle reduction & skin-cell protection. Walter Faulstroh & Chris Coleridge founded Hum Nutrition in 2012, after Walter’s personal struggles with acne breakouts led him to prescription medications & topical solutions. nothing worked for him long term, but while working at their previous company, ‘V Water’ (a vitamin/mineral infused beverage company) he was inspired by a coworker after she helped his acne by formulating drinks specifically targeted to treat it. With help a forward-thinking nutritionist from London, Hum nutrition was born. 🙋🏻♀️I would highly recommend taking advantage of your FREE personal nutritionist: 💻I’ve had the best email correspondence with mine thus far... Fast responses & she always addresses my questions or concerns thoughtfully. I’m not going to rate anything just yet, although I did give a 4⭐️rating to the ‘Glow Sweet Glow’ gummies recently when I got a sample from Sephora... but as I said in that review it could really only be a rating on flavor & texture, because taking 1 days worth of vitamins is not how this magic works. But trying those led me to research the brand a bit & on to purchase 8 supplements from them😂 💊I look forward to seeing (& feeling) some results in 4-6 weeks & sharing a full review of each supplement with you! They start you off with 3 recommendations after you take a brief (very easy) quiz. I only picked 2/3 of the ones they chose & added the others I was interested in. You don’t have to do this at all, you can grab most of these at Sephora, or purchase whichever on HumNutrition.com —But there are great price breaks if you sign up: $10 off 15% off of 3 additional 25% off for 3 month plan ( charged 1 month at a time ) 📆 The ones I picked for my arsenal: All prices for 30 day supply 💳 (1 or 2 a day) 🧡HUM - Base Control$10 The multi-vitamin. (Also comes in iron free) Been off my vitamin game for a while, so this was a no-brainer. 💓HUM - Private Party : Supports Vaginal & Urinary Tract Health$25 A probiotic supplement for the ladies. The one that really caught my attention. 🐟HUM - OMG! Omega the Great Fish Oil Supplement$30 One recommended for me. Kind of big. ❤️HUM - Hair Sweet Hair Growth Vegan Gummies$25 Berry. 🌚HUM - Mighty Night Overnight Renewal Supplement$40 To naturally aid sleep/increase cell turnover. 💨HUM - Air Patrol Supports Skin & Lungs with Vitamin C$10 Vitamin C & Calcium for lung health. 🍊HUM - Glow Sweet Glow Skin Hydration Vegan Gummies$25 Tangerine. ☀️HUM - Here Comes The Sun Vitamin D Supplement$12 I don’t get a lot of sun.🧛🏻♀️
Here comes the sun🌞🌞🌞
Regardless of doody weather 🌥☔ we've been having here lately, I can't stop singing The Beatles song as I pop my daily @humnutrition supplements each morning, lol. I have been meaning to take supplements but 1. Most of the pills are too big for my liking, 2. The gummy or drinking versions never tasted good, and 3. It always just felt like a dull chore. However! When Hum gifted me their Mighty Night supplements (not pictured) through Octoly, I fell in love with how quickly effective they were. So, after a few nights of taking them, I went HAM 🍖 and decided to purchase 3 of their other supplements to try. And let me tell you, my nails, skin, hair, and body has never felt or looked better. Wowsers! I sleep so well, I wake up with clear skin, my nails are the strongest its ever been (I've always had sad, brittle, weak af nails), and my hair looks healthier, too! The gummies taste DEE-LICIOUS, the softgel sizes are teeny, their packaging is adorably happy, and I actually really look forward to taking them each morning and night. Needless to say, I'm a huge fan of this brand now. Do you take any supplements? If so, which ones? Oh and btw, happy Friday/weekend! Yay! 🙆🏻♀️
Any advice for sensitive, dry / combination skin
Hello! I am so excited by Cherie because I am unfortunately one of those people who spends hours reading articles to try and understand my skin and then spends $$$$ on products that do not work for me. So it’s amazing to see so many people giving each other advice on things that work! I have very sensitive skin that varies between being very dry and irritated, to very oily. I have large pores and am very prone to blackheads over my whole face. When using things to try and minimise my pores, it often dries everything up and creates whiteheads 😭 I am currently using: Dermalogica - ultra calming cleanser (I am not loving this and finding it isn’t calming the redness or taking makeup /sunscreen off well) Paula’s Choice - Anti-redness exfoliating solution (2% salicylic acid) Paula’s Choice - (Clear) oil free moisturiser Serums and retinoids seem a bit scary, but I feel like I need to incorporate some into my routine! If anyone has any similar problems or suggestions I would love to hear your advice 🙏🤞 thanks so much
i was wondering if anyone had any knowledge on what this could be! the last photo is my face now for comparison. last year around this time my skin decided to do whatever this nightmare is. i had used nothing new, no new face products or perfumes, no new laundry wash, nothing. for about a month or two this would happen on and off, it would hit hard for a week, die down slightly, and then get worse again. the only thing i used on my face during that time was a small amount of cetaphil moisturizer and then later small amounts of cortizone 10 at the recommendation of my local pharmacist to try and moisturize. my eyes were red, swollen, extremely dry and flaky, irritated, every awful thing you could imagine. my skin is very sensitive and often breaks out in hives if it doesn’t like a product, but nothing like this had ever happened in my life. and then, after about 2 months, it went away, and hasn’t come back. this was such a rough time for me and i still have no idea what happened.
My Oldschool Acne Cure
It never occurred to me to use Calamine Lotion for acne until I saw the Mario Badescu drying lotion. It was pink which was a dead give away to me what it was. I looked it up and sure enough its calamine and salicylic acid. I hate salicylic acid, and literally had some calamine in the cupboard so figured I'd give it a go. For my sensitive skin this is pretty much perfect. I put a thick layer on my zits at night and even a thin layer on some of my oily problem areas. Similar to a clay mask you will see it dry up the oils and start to crack. But, it always remains super soothing. Usually after having some on for a couple hours I will see a decrease in redness. I will even put concealer over the dry patches for keeping my zits dry throughout the day. 100% would recommend for acne and especially cystic acne and oily problem areas.
Maskne: acne that’s triggered by wearing a face mask. More than two months ago I was thinking about this topic, but no one spoke about this problem and I came to think that it only happened to me. Now you see information about this everywhere. The constant use of masks can cause acne, allergic reactions and dryness. Wearing a tight face masks reduces air flow and creates a warm and moist environment, ideal for growth of skin bacteria. Another problem is friction, maskne typically appears on the areas where the mask rubs the most (chin, cheeks and nose). How to take care of our skin: 💄 With practically the entire face covered by the mask, it is not necessary to use makeup, you can make up your eyebrows and eyelashes or use sunscreen or BB cream to give a touch of color to the face. 🧴 Keep your skin hydrated. 🧼 Wash your face before and after (to remove the excess oil, debris, sweat and dirt) wearing face mask. 👄 Moisturize your lips whenever necessary. 😷 Use disposable masks and if they are reusable, prefer those made of cotton and wash them after each use in hot water with laundry detergent and white vinegar and tumble dry on high heat. ☀️ Wear sunscreen. Apply products that help each concern. Dryness/irritation: DRUNK ELEPHANT - F-Balm Electrolyte Waterfacial Mask it’s an overnight mask with electrolyte cocktail. Ideal for all skin types. helps me relieve irritation and dryness caused by the masks. It has been extremely useful to me. HERBIVORE - Emerald Deep Moisture Glow Oil calm the look of redness and nourish skin with lasting hydration. I use this when I feel my skin dull and dehydrated during the day, it gives immediate hydration. HERO COSMETICS - Rescue Balm contains antioxidants and peptides. Helps calm irritated skin and redness. I apply it in areas that require more support. Acne: HERO COSMETICS - Mighty Patch Original and Invisible+ Bundle + or STARFACE - Hydro-Stars hydrocolloid patches that remove impurities. These patches are wonderful, really "pulls out all the gunk trapped inside your pimple" as they say. They are fast and very effective.
HERBIVORE-Emerald Deep Moisture Glow Oil
Overrated - it’s a big NO from me 🙅🏽♀️
Everyone’s probably come across this product at some point as majority of the beauty stores list it as a best seller. I don’t suffer from serious or constant acne but at times I will get a big pimple especially after I’ve done a blackhead extraction. I normally use pimple patches with hydrocolloid to help heal my spots quickly and gently, however I wanted to give the MARIO BADESCU - Mario Badescu Drying Lotion a try! Unfortunately my experience was not a glowing positive one. 😞 After I applied it to my pimple, I instantly felt a burn. Not a sting - like an actual burn and I was tempted to just wipe it off. I assume this is from the alcohol in it which personally I think there’s just too much in there that for sensitive skin girls like myself, it’s very irritating. In terms of pimple healing, I honestly think because of the irritation, the healing speed was slowed and the pimple would just be so red and aggressive. Potentially people with more robust and less sensitive skin could tolerate it however I do still think there’s better spot treatment products on the market. This one I feel does a bit more damage then good! 😞 Would love to know your thoughts on this product if you’ve used it 🥰
