How to (Temporarily) Shrink Your Pores in 1 Hour
What you might think are stubborn blackheads that you can’t remove, no matter how religiously you use salicylic acid, are actually sebaceous filaments, which are basically a combination of sebum (your skin’s natural oils), bacteria, dead skin cells, and even the single hair in your hair follicle that have all come together to create that annoying clogged pore. Unfortunately, the size of your pores is determined by your genetics, and they can’t be truly “shrunk,” no matter what a product claims. Although you can only temporarily reduce the appearance of your pores, it’s a pretty simple and extremely satisfying process known as “gritting.” I first learned about this process from Fifty Shades of Snail, whose process is well known in the online skincare community. The process uses three products — a BHA chemical exfoliant, like salicylic acid; a clay mask; and a cleansing oil — and takes about 1 hour max. It’s recommended that you do this in the morning, about once every few days, so this is a great way to indulge in some skincare self-care on the weekends! Below are my favorite products to use for gritting: COSRX - BHA Blackhead Power Liquid

Reviewing My Followers Skincare Routines pt. 1
Hey y’all! In today’s post I’ll be reviewing my followers skincare routines! I went through some of y’all’s accounts in search of some routines, then messaged everyone to make sure they were okay with me using their routines in this post! This is only pt. 1 because this post got wayyy to long to include everyone at once! Let me start by saying I’m not an esthetician or dermatologist, nor have I ever claimed to be. I am just a fellow skincare lover who knows a lot about ingredients in skincare. We’re starting off with @Chloe_McRae. Sometimes she decides to double cleanse, and when she does she starts with the#Holifrog - Kissimmee Vitamin F Therapy Balmy Wash[products]#[FourStars] which is $42 for 2.5 fl oz. This has a ton of great hydrating oils, as well as Vitamin F, which is great for helping cell turnover. I would say it’s a great first cleanse for those with dry skin. Next she uses theDRUNK ELEPHANT - Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser Deluxe Sample which is $32. I would say this is a good cleanser. The cleansing agents are gentle and non stripping, and it also has glycerin which is hydrating, and cantaloupe fruit extract which is a hydrating extract full of antioxidants. Other than that, this is a pretty basic cleanser. Next she uses the HERBIVORE - Prism 20% AHA + 5% BHA Exfoliating Glow Facial l which is $58. Because the name is confusing, it’s a gel face mask. This stuff looks gorgeous and the ingredients are too. Along with AHA and BHA, it has aloe and rose water which help your skin to retain moisture. I don’t think it’s worth $58, but it’s pretty good. Next is the PEACH & LILY - Wild Dew Treatment Essence which is $39 for 3.38 fl oz. This essence has glycerin, Nicinamide, and Hylaronic acid. For $39 I expected a lot more. In general, essence is less effective than a serum, so this seems a little expensive for what you get. Then comes theDRUNK ELEPHANT - Sweet Biome Fermented Sake Hydrating Spray which is $42. Yes, $42 for a face mist. Now looking at the ingredients this has glycerin and a small amount of Hylaronic acid. The rest of the ingredients are extracts. Thankfully there isn’t fragrance, but this is a no because it’s so expensive. And finally is the COSRX - BHA Blackhead Power Liquid which is $24. Really this has some Willow water and Nicinamide and that’s it. Okay I freaked out at this point. Nowhere in this routine is sunscreen or moisturizer!!! Nooooo!! We need less acids and more of the basics. Overall I’d say this routine has too many steps. I think you could simplify down to a double cleanse, a cheap but good serum with Hylaronic acid and Nicinamide which seem to be the ingredients that work well for your skin, and the a moisturizer and some spf. Our next routine comes from @WillWorkforMascara. She starts her routine with theCeraVe - Foaming Facial Cleanser For Normal To Oily Skin w is $17. This product is great for oily skin, which she has. It has glycerin, nicinamide, and Hylaronic acid so it’s super hydrating. Next she usesThe Ordinary - Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution witch is $8.70. Along with glycolic acid, it has aloe vera water and glycerin. Some people think it’s overly stripping, but for oily skin its great. Now this is where this routine becomes international. She goes in with theMUJI - Boosting Essence Lotion which is $7 for 50 ml. This essence has aloe vera juice and glycerin. It does have quite a bit of fragrance though which makes it a no from me. Next she goes in with the#Pearlessence - Argan Oil + Vitamin E facial oil[products]#[ThreeStars] which is $11.89 for 1.83 fl oz. This product has two ingredients. Vitamin E and Argan oil. Now this is where we really go international. #Human Nature - Sunflower Eye Cream[products]#[TwoStars] and found out that 295 Cuban Peso is $12.29. Now as for the ingredients this eye cream has sunflower oil and glycerin. And fragrance. Fragrance can especially be irritating around the eye area so this is another no. Instead try some thing likeTHE inkey LIST - Caffeine Eye Cream She also uses a eyebrow and eyelash oil called Peach Thy Lash which is 150 Cuban Peso or $6.25. I don’t know anything about this kind of product so I can’t really say if it works. And finally is theLANEIGE - LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask which is $22. This mask has Vitamin C, Hylaronic acid, and glycerin. It seems good to me, but this sort of product is more about the experience, and I haven’t tried it. Again! We need moisturizer and sunscreen! This one also has too many steps so let’s simplify it to cleanser, toner, moisturizer, sunscreen, eyelash oil, and lip mask. Unfortunately this post would be super long if I included everyone, so look out for pt. 2 coming soon! Please cheer for this post if you liked it, comment below your holy grail skincare products, and follow me to join the family and for similar content! -Mae
A struggling month
Since my progress post I’d figure I’d show that even those who have promoted they’ve healed their acne that it may and can be just for a moment, a month or a year and things can change in your life that could eventually alter your skin yet again. During the summer my skin was doing real good except the occasional monthly pimples from my period. However these past 2 months I’ve been breaking out along my jawline, chin, mouth and a little on the cheeks. It’s been pretty frustrating because I felt like I was me again and then boom I’m back to feeling insecure. I am currently testing new products to see a difference and changing/adding supplements and vitamins to help and will hope to update in a few months ! All I can say is that I am unemotional about this round of acne... and I think it helps to have a great support system to keep you positive because at the end of the day we are all beautiful no matter what may appear on our faces 😊 New products: COSRX - BHA Blackhead Power Liquid Helping with my pores and bringing my acne to surface Beauty of Joseon - Calming Serum : Green Tea + Panthenol Soothing my inflammatory acne YEOUTH - Retinol Serum with Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin E and Aloe Vera Really excited to finally add a retinol and this one is great- not $$$ and absorbs nicely (won’t see full effects until another 2-3 weeks) Apart from that my routine has stayed the same and the rest of my face is pretty clear!

Clay Hair Mask
HOW TO MAKE: 2 Tbs of Aztec clay powder and 2 Tbs of Organic Apple Cider Vinegar AZTEC SECRET - Indian Healing Clay HOW TO PUT ON: Wet hair Divide hair into sections Comb clay mixture into hair with fingers Leave on for 30 minutes HOW TO WASH OUT: Start off with cold water then transition to slightly warmer water MY THOUGHTS: My hair definitely felt clean and my curls felt soft; however, I didn’t get as much curl definition as I was hoping for. Any tips for more curl definitions? What other ingredients have you added to hair clay mixtures?
oily skin & don’t know how to manage? I got you
this post is for all the people who have oily skin and sometimes just don’t know how to deal with it! well i’m here for some tips! I have oily/combo skin and I’ve learnt some important info during my skincare journey that I would love to share with you all 🤗 1. still moisturise it is super important for people with oily skin to keep up with moisturising ! you may think that your skin is hydrated and doesn’t need any extra moisture, but it still really does. if you don’t moisturise, or use products to keep your skin hydrated, your skin can overcompensate with releasing it’s natural oils, which in hand, can make your skin more oily 2. don’t be afraid of oils whether this is oil cleansing or any certain type of oil (rosehip, squalane etc), don’t be hesitant to use these products just because of your skin type. for me, oils have made a huge difference to my skin, especially oil cleansing! one thing to remember with oil cleansing, is that oils attract oils, and therefore are oil soluble. products like this help to get rid of grease, blackheads etc and can be great for oily skin! 3. use products targeted for oily skin I know that this one is quite self explanatory, but here are some products that helped my oily skin become more manageable! - niacinamide. this ingredient is amazing for oily skin ! it helps to decrease oil production from within the skin. my fav product is NATURIUM - Niacinamide Serum 12% Plus Zinc 2% , but I also don’t mind The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% -exfoliation. now with this I don’t mean physical exfoliation, but chemical exfoliation! my favourite exfoliant has to be PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator this one is my HOLY GRAIL product of them all ! I have many posts on this product so be sure to check those out for an in depth description. - clay face masks. these are good for absorbing oil and giving your face a matte finish. some of my favs are PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Balancing Oil-Absorbing Mask AZTEC SECRET - Indian Healing Clay I hope this helps and if you have any questions, feel free to comment 🌟🥰
SUPERMUD blackheads be GONE!
What it is: This mask contains 6-- yes six--exfoliating acids and activated charcoal. It claims to instantly and visibly clear pores and clarify the complexion. Price: $59 full size, $25 mini My thoughts: *Disclaimer: I want to start this review by saying that I would not recommend this mask for sensitive skin. If you have sensitive skin and you’d like to try it, please patch test in an area first. This is an intense mask. I do not have sensitive skin. I am able to use a lot of different products on my skin, but this one, although effective, makes my skin red. This is an as-needed or couple of times a month product for me. Now for the details: It unclogs and tightens the pores, and the tightness is noticeable. It leaves the skin feeling soft, clean, and brightened, but I do experience redness. I think this mask is best used when you can moisturize VERY well afterward. This product is great at fighting breakouts because of the acids in it. The texture is very indicative of a mud/clay mask. It is a heavy texture that hardens as it dries. It has a very minty/eucalyptus scent to it, and it has a moderate cooling sensation when it is applied. The biggest downside for this mask for me is the price tag. GlamGlow products are best purchased on sale in my experience.. The plus side is that it isn’t a mask that I would personally use on a weekly basis so it lasts a long time for me. GLAMGLOW - Supermud Charcoal Instant Treatment Mask Rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

glam glow supermud clearing mask
key ingredients: six super acid blend - the super six acid blend in this mask contains a mixture of both alpha hydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acids, such as lactic acid, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, mandelic acid, tartaric acid, and pyruvic acid. these acids work together at different speeds on different layers of the skin so you get the benefits of both. they also unclog pores that result in skin problems and imperfections. activated - x charcoal - activated - x charcoal is an extreme absorption carbon that attracts toxins and dirt from deep down in your pores. eucalyptus leaves - eucalyptus leaves steep in the mud and charcoal, delivering the benefits and phytoactive components into the skin and formula. what it claims to do: this clay mask claims to clean and remove any toxins deep down into the deepest and toughest areas from your pores. with the unique formula that this mask holds, it’ll help fight problematic skin/skin imperfections and clogged pores. the super six acid blend helps loosen dead skin cells to exfoliate and sweep them away, leaving fresh and smooth skin behind. this mask is also recommended for acne - prone and oily skin. my experience: i came across this product about a week ago and decided to give it a try because of what it claims to do. this mask is great for clearing out and removing all of the dirt and debris deep inside your pores. it also helps refine the appearance of your pores as well, which makes it more difficult for any bacteria to clog them, resulting in clearer skin. i found that this product works best as a spot treatment overnight, especially for whiteheads since it draws out the pus and toxins from the blemish. it may take time for the active ingredients in the mask to penetrate and give their effect, so a treatment left in place on a blemish for several hours may be of benefit for many products. however, i didn’t notice a difference when applying this to an under the skin blemish, but it did bring it to a head quicker than it would without. this mask is also simple to wash off even if used as a spot treatment, which is left on for way longer than the recommended time. as the mask dries, the super six acid blend allows you to see the active ingredients being drawn towards your pores to remove debris. this is called the pore - matrix. psa: this type of clay mask isn’t recommended for sensitive skin because of the amount of powerful acids it contains, which is why i mostly use it only on my t-zone area because it isn’t sensitive. you also may feel a tingly sensation when applying this mask (it goes away after a few seconds) but this signals your skin is getting used to the different acids and that they’re penetrating into your pores. Great gentle exfoliating mask
I’m a long-time fan of The Ordinary, so when I saw this new mask in the Deciem store during a recent trip to Toronto, I snapped it up! I‘ve used their acid peel in the past and although I loved the results, it was very strong and stung my skin every time I used it. I was hoping this mask would be a gentler alternative, and thus far it’s lived up to my hopes. This mask claims to target lackluster tone and texture, including large pores and acne blemishes. The product is a creamy consistency, and a little goes a long way—a very thin layer is all you need. The mask dries to a matte finish within a few minutes, and when I wash it off it feels like there are some physical exfoliants—maybe the charcoal? Either way, it doesn’t sting my skin at all, and I think it’s really helped calm down my current breakout. This mask is more expensive than the acid peel, at $12 for 50ml, but it’s still very affordable. Overall, I would recommend this to anyone looking for a milder exfoliating mask that targets acne, large pores, and texture. The Ordinary - Salicylic Acid 2% Masque

Yes To Tomatoes Detoxifying Sheet Mask
Hey y’all! This is the first product I’m reviewing for Cherie :) So, this is a Detoxifying Charcoal paper/sheet mask from the brand Yes To Tomatoes. You might’ve heard about this brand elsewhere or have seen it in stores, but if you haven’t it’s a brand that uses 96% natural ingredients in there skincare products (mostly targets acne and blackheads) * This mask is marketed as a detoxifier. It helps purify the skin and works as a natural detoxifier on the face, getting rid of pores and dirt. It also helps keep acne under control. * This product is a paper mask with eye holes and a mouth hole so you can directly put it over your face. There is not a specific texture or consistency except that it feels like paper and it is a little wet. * I have been using this product 2x a week for a month now. I tried it because I like most of Yes To Tomatoes products and wanted to see how well this product would work. So far it has been helping my skin look a little lighter and closing up some pores. The two things I dislike about this product is that it burns a lot for the first 5 minutes, which is probably because it contains ginger, and that it doesn’t really show any direct results after using it for the first few times. * I would recommend this product to others who don’t have sensitive skin, but has patience. * In my opinion, I don’t think that the product is worth the money ($2.99) because the results are not very dramatic. That mask ^ is my last one and I’m thinking of stopping after using it. yesto - Detoxifying Charcoal Paper Mask

Au Revoir Blackheads. You’re not welcome here!
Let’s talk about one my biggest love affairs with skincare, The Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay mask. Safe to say....a cult favorite. It is an all natural powder clay, made of 100% calcium bentonite; Which is a type of dry, absorbent clay that forms from old volcanic ash. Bentonite clay has been found to remove bodily toxins upon application by absorbing them. Its a vacuum cleaner for things like dirt and oil and hardens on your skin upon a few mins of application. It’s marketed as the worlds most powerful facial with the purpose of deep cleaning the dirtiest of pores and it does not fall short of that. This product has been in my skincare cabinet for a little over 3 years & I wish I had discovered it sooner. When a friend posted it on her IG and swore by it, I ran after work to get it from the Vitamin Shoppe but soon found out I wasn’t the only girl in Manhattan with hopes of flawless skin. Apparently this was when this product had blown up and was sold out everywhere, I ended up finding it at a beauty supply store in Harlem after hours of searching everywhere. Thankfully now, you can find this $9 mask just about anywhere in the city (Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Rite Aid, Vitamin Stores, local grocery stores, amazon, etc) Being the girl that’s always had troublesome skin this mask promised to help get rid of any impurities on my face, Blackheads and Acne being top of my list. You mix the powder with either water or apple cider vinegar 1:1 & get this cream like consistency which you then apply to the face and leave on for 10 minutes. You start feeling your face tingle & tighten w/in a few mins & before u know it u need a straw to take a sip of water. It’s unlike any mask I’ve ever tried. After washing your face is a bit red but followed with moisturizer and it’s like a new face. Any active pimples/redness diminish & blackheads are gone. I use this once a week subject to how much trouble my face is giving me and I have seen this mask change my skin. If you haven’t tried this, what are you waiting for?! 5/5
