how to hide acne and breakouts

my skin type: sensitive, combo, acne prone, rosacea
my skin concerns: redness, hyperpigmentation, breakouts
my skin color: usually a light neutral shade works well for me :)
Today I’ll be doing makeup and focusing on hiding my acne and redness! DISCLAIMER: your acne doesn’t make you less of a person or “ugly” or anything like that. It’s okay to have acne, and I promise no one is looking at you. But sometimes my self confidence is low and covering up makes me feel better.
Things I avoid:
+ I don’t set my makeup w/ a powder most days, but I especially don’t with my heavy breakouts. I find that when I powder my face, it makes my face dry or clings to my acne and makes it look crusty. A dewy look works out better for me!
+ matte products
+ products with high concentration of alcohol
Things I look for:
+ hydrating products
+ medium coverage products that can be layered
+ sunscreen!

MY 2020 FAVS 🌟🌟
2020 was my year for amping my skincare journey & trying many amazing products, and some that just didn’t make the cut, but here are some of my favs from 2020 that I’m bringing into 2021 with me ☺️
CeraVe - Renewing SA Cleanser For Normal Skin
i’ve talked about this one on my page before but it’s the best cleanser that I have ever tried ! the ingredients are packed full with skin treating ingredients such as niacinamide, salicylic acid and ceramids. it’s super hydrating, yet really gets the job done of cleansing my face and helping with present and future acne.
DHC - Deep Cleansing Oil
if you don’t double cleanse, here is your sign to start! I have combo skin with large pores that are my worst nemesis. now I am not saying this gets rid of your pores (that’s unfortunately impossible), but it pulls out oil plugs, removes dirt, makeup and anything on your face from the day. this is my most satisfying step of my nightly routine and I know that i’ll be oil cleansing for the long run.
PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator
I think i’ve probably talked about this product maybe 10 times on my account, so that’s saying something about how great it is!! it’s such a gentle yet strong exfoliator that has helped my hormonal acne, uneven skin tone and reduced my redness and irritation. it’s packed with a punch and is an all round holy grail of mine.
The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution
this one for me almost does the same trick as the paula’s choice 2% bha exfoliant, but it’s definitely a lot stronger. I love doing this once a week as a little recharge for my skin. another pro with this product is that a little goes a long way, so it lasts a long time!
THE inkey LIST - Retinol Serum
you could call me a retinol newbie as I just got into it recently. since I just started, this one has been amazing! as it’s not good to start out with a strong retinol, I definitely recommend this one! it’s helped so much with my skin in terms of uneven skin tone, acne, and I think my blackheads are slowly decreasing.
peach slices - Snail Rescue Blemish Busting Toner
day and night I use this and I love it ! it’s super duper gentle, yet is such a great toner. this is my first product i’ve used which includes snail mucin, but i’m digging it!! it’s helped so much with irritation and redness, as well as aiding present pimples, and preventing future ones.
innisfree - Daily UV Defense Sunscreen SPF 36
the first proper face sunscreen that I have purchased! it doesn’t have a strong SPF smell and not too much white cast at all. I may be trying another SPF soon just to compare, but so far so good with this one!
OLE HENRIKSEN - Banana Bright Eye Crème
I love it ! amazing smell, texture & has a nice tint to it to help reduce dark circles!

Trust the Process
I decided to start off the new year by adding this new product into my routine. I have hopes for Apostrophe. 🤞
I've always struggled with acne so I've tried many products. I have tried online dermatologist consultations before so this wouldn't be my first try at these. Curology was actually a product that seemed to really help me for about 2 years. When I first started with that product it took my skin a while to improve but as the prescriptions changed, I noticed the changes. My skin did get better and for some months I was actually happy with the results. Until I hit a rough patch, the prescribed medication was not working. Even after the changes in prescription nothing was really working. I gave up on Curology at the beginning of last year (February 2020). Then the next couple of months my face actually cleared up so that made me think that Curology was making my acne worst.
As my acne was getting better I was very happy until about 4 months ago. Acne has been a part of my life since I was a teenager so I don't expect it to just disappear some day but I do hope to have a better control of it.

ELF Hydrating Camo Concealer
e.l.f. - Hydrating Camo Concealer
I don’t really wear concealer much, but I’ve had a few breakouts that have been very red and I want to cover up. I got this and was shocked at how good the shade match was! It was literally the first one I picked up! This is easy to blend out but I have to be careful or this makes my dry patches really stand out. Overall it has pretty good coverage and I like this! For someone who doesn’t use concealer much this was a great, inexpensive product.

Inexpensive Blendable Concealer
I’ve been using this concealer for the past month. It’s inexpensive, blendable (don’t know if that’s a word) & gives great coverage. I purchased mine at Target for about $6, plus tax. I wish that stores would carry more of the darker shades because the only shades that tend to stay in store are of course the lighter shades. e.l.f. - Hydrating Camo Concealer

Marshall’s Haul: Deals and Steals!
If you guys aren’t going to Marshall’s/Ross/TJ Maxx occasionally to peruse their skincare and makeup sections you’re missing out!!! Here are the deals I got (product reviews to come).
The pimple patches were actually found at Target, a friend recommended stickers because my skin is too sensitive for acne treatment and I only get the occasional hormonal spot here recently. $7.99 USD
alba BOTANICA - Acne Pimple Patch
I have been wanting to try FAB’s tinted moisturizer foreverrrr because it has colloidal oatmeal in it which is amazing for my eczema! It is normally $28 though, which is steep for a tinted moisturizer. I got it at Marshall’s for $15.99 IN MY SHADE! Very excited to try this baby out.
FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30
I love pawpaw ointment! It’s a great multipurpose balm to have on hand (similar to Aquaphor) I haven’t tried this fancy brand yet, I usually use Lucas’ Pawpaw (thank you Australian camp counselor friends) but have heard great things about Dr. Pawpaw (UK-based). This 100 mL tube is usually $25 and I got it for $3.99!!!
Dr. PAWPAW - Original Balm
And for the STEAL I got Bareminerals original mineral foundation that is normally $32 for $5.99!!! Fun fact, Bareminerals was the first foundation I ever used and I’ve been curious to try it again since I’ve been having so many issues with my skin. Going to try that natural look out again and worst case mix it with a moisturizer if it’s powdery.

Reviews to come! 💕 Oh and didn’t have time to do the lashes today fingers crossed for tomorrow!

Sun-Proof/ Uv damage skin care
Sunscreen is an absolute necessity in EVERYBODY'S skincare routine, especially during summer when we are spending more time outside! Spf is found in lotions, foundations, facial mists, and are also sold separately. Investing in spf is defintely worth your money in the short and long term for your skin health.
Andalou Naturals- This is the face cream(spf 18) that I use during the day. It uses fruit stem cell complexes that are great for anti aging, antioxidants, and are an anti-inflammatory. It also contains "super" antioxidants which are amazing for helping the skin bounce back from sun damage and protect us from free radicals.
Sun Bum Sunscreen- Spf 50, this is a chemical sunscreen that is moisturizing and doesn't break me out at the same time! I have very sensitive skin and have had no problems with this product. I apply this after my lotion and before my primer/foundation.
Ulta Rose Water Setting Spray- (Check my page for my in depth review) This product has become an essential in my makeup routine. This setting spray has a matte finish and an spf of 50!!! This doesn't cause any irritation in my skin and can even be applied without makeup underneath it.
Sun Bum Cool Down Soothing Gel- Anyone with fair skin can tell you how much sunburn sucks! I use this to prevent my skin from peeling or even if I just spend a long time in the sun. This lotion in particular contains Vitamin E, which is a powerful antioxidant a known for reducing UV damage, and also Tea Tree Leaf Oil, which calms redness and inflammation. The aloe is great for moisturizing, acne, redness, inflammation, and burns in general.

What I use to reapply my SPF during the day
these products have been amazing to apply and reapply SPF during the day! Especially if you don’t want to ruin any makeup as well 🤩
LA ROCHE-POSAY - Anthelios 50 Mineral Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid SPF 50
Firstly this sunscreen i will go on and on about forever. It’s SO lightweight, doesn’t give you a white cast, (theres a tinted version and an invisible version) and MOST importantly doesn’t clog my pores (acne prone). You don’t even feel like you’re wearing sunscreen! This is the product that got me to feel comfortable wearing sunscreen on the daily. My acne scars are thanking me!!
Supergoop! - 100% Mineral Invincible Setting Powder SPF 45
This mineral setting powder from Supergoop is pretty good. I like the concept of it, and I love how in the packaging the brush is already included. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because when you twist the bottom to get the powder, some of the powder has kickoff and gets everywhere. Not great if you wanted to reapplying quickly in the car, but if you’re outside and a little kickoff of powder is fine, then there we go! It’s lightweight, mattifying (I like that becuase I get shiny) and the brush is very soft.
Avène - MINERAL High Protection Tinted Compact SPF 50
I LOVE this mineral compact from avene. There are 2? Shades that come in the mineral compacts and they are both SPF 50. The colour I use is Biege and is a perfect match for my skin tone. It’s a cream to powder finish, so when you apply it with whatever tool you use, (I just use the puff the compact comes with) it instantly turns into a powder finish, mattifying your skin. of course, there is a mirror in the compact as well.
What are your summer suncare essentials this year? I’d love to know!

💙Sunscreen Spray: Bae or Nae?💙
LET'S TALK SUNSCREEN SETTING MIST! ☀️
Ok. So, I have some pros and cons for Coola's makeup setting spray. 🤔
Pros: Look at how beautiful that packaging is! I mean, it's beautiful for a day out at the beach or, for me, a day in the theme parks! The mist is super fine and looks great over your makeup, no matter how many times you reapply. It didn't break me out and kept my skin protected, which is important!🤩
Cons: I HATE the smell!! It has a very strong chemical smell and while I push past it, because I like the product itself, I really wish it didn't smell like that. Like legit, my eyes water when I spray it. So, if you are sensitive to scent, this is NOT the product for you. 😐
Altogether, I like the product and I still use it, just wish they had a way to cover up that strong scent and I’m not fully comfy with all the alcohol in the productCOOLA - Makeup Setting Spray SPF 30 . 💗
COOLA-Makeup Setting Spray SPF 30
Perfect for SPF Reapplication
Product Empty!!!!
If you are like me and totally suck at reapplying SPF throughout the day due to makeup, I have a great product to recommend.
This spray SPF 50 is perfect because you. An mist as much or as little as you need. Make sure to keep a powder sponge nearby because it does to spray blotchy at time.
Overall this is an great product for spray SPF. I have combination, acne-probe skin and this did not cause any breakouts or irritation.
This is a definite repurchase.
