ingredient spotlight: oatmeal

This post is all about oatmeal, which is definitely something I never thought would be in skincare. However, I’ve found it insanely helpful for dry or normal skin types, as well as sensitive and acne prone skin. It’s very soothing and repairing! It is produced by finely grinding oats, then boiling them. The antioxidants found in oats (and colloidal oatmeal), can help soothe skin! It also contains water-binding properties and is an effective skin protectant. The FDA categorizes colloidal oatmeal as a skin protectant, allowing it to be listed as an active ingredient on skincare products. Today I’m going to be talking about three products with oats, FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Wild Oat Hydrating Toner
, Krave - Oat So Simple Water Cream
, and the Herbal Dynamics Beauty - HYALURONIC ACID & OAT OVERNIGHT RECOVERY MASK
. — Wild Oat Hydrating Toner: perfect in my AM routine when I need some extra hydration AND to tone, but don’t wanna dry my skin out. I usually apply this with my hands, after I wash them, and just kind of pat the milky toner in. It’s a great layering product, and I can layer a few pats of this in before going in with my moisturizer. It’s pretty watery, but somehow manages to pack in a lot of hydration; sometimes I’ll mix it with a serum to get extra hydration. I make sure to bring this down to my neck and chest cause I don’t wanna leave those out! Because this has colloidal oatmeal, it’s super soothing, mega hydrating, and the most calming. I am nowhere near empty because a little is a lot, but I would totally repurchase this for my am routine when I run out. $22 for 6oz, which is kind of a steal. — Oat So Simple Moisturizer: with oats and squalane, it’s hard to go wrong with this moisturizer. This moisturizer is perfect for my normal to oily skin for the day time, as it’s a water cream and not very thick. It boasts only NINE ingredients, so you can see just how important the oatmeal is to this product. It’s a very soothing and calming moisturizer, sinks in quickly, and neutralizes redness pretty fast. I will occasionally use an oil with this if my skin is dry, but this and the rest of my routine do a pretty good job at hydrating! It may not be enough for dry skin or skin that is prone to lots of environmental damage over the course of the day. This runs at $28, which I also think is a good deal, and I would repurchase it! — Hyaluronic Acid and Oat Overnight Recovery Mask: unfortunately, I do not like this product. The texture of it really throws me off, as it’s very moisturizer-but-balmy. When applied, it kind of streaks along my face and doesn’t sink in for a while, and doesn’t really add any hydration or soothing properties like the other two I’ve mentioned. It has more of a wash off mask feeling than an overnight, as it doesn’t dry. This is the first product I’ve tried with oats that doesn’t hold up! The full size runs about $30 (I have the mini at $17, gifted).

My Skincare Awards! {Overnight Masks}
Overnight masks are something I love to try. I’m always searching for “the one”. Spoiler alert: “the one” is included in this post. I have very dry skin that needs extra moisture because I live in a dry climate. These are 3 PM masks I have open in my collection right now. I’ll rank them in order from favorite to least favorite. 1. YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superberry Hydrate + Glow Dream Mask This is “the one”, y’all. It’s got everything I want. It contains hyaluronic acid, squalane, maqui, and vitamin C. It hydrates, nourishes, calms irritation, plumps, and leaves my face glowing the next morning. It has a thick, soothing texture and a faint berry scent. I use it 1-2x/week. Rarely do I try a sample of something and purchase a full size, but I did with this mask because it’s 100% worth the hype. Don’t apply too much, though, or it can feel heavy and greasy. It’s good for all skin types. $48 for 2oz. - totally worth it. 2. Herbal Dynamics Beauty - HYALURONIC ACID & OAT OVERNIGHT RECOVERY MASK This is a very close second favorite. This mask contains hyaluronic acid, oat, mushroom, broccoli, aloe, and rose oil. It’s texture is slightly less thick than the YTTP Superberry, and there’s very little discernible scent. This is perfect for those times when my skin is extra dry and irritated because of the calming oat. My skin looks plumped and visibly less dry and nourished the next AM. I use it 1-2x/week. This was gifted to me by the brand; however, I would repurchase this myself. Try 0.5oz for $17 (which will still last a long time) or 1oz for $30. Mine is 1/2 gone and I will buy another. 3. SUMMER FRIDAYS - Jet Lag Mask I’ve reviewed this before on Cherie. For me, this mask isn’t really worth the hype. It isn’t quite moisturizing enough for me in winter. I’ve used it as an overnight mask, wash off, eye cream, moisturizer (for a whole week AM & PM!) and even a hand cream. It’s texture is the most thin of the 3, but it’s not thin by any means. It does feel lovely on my skin, and in warmer months my skin feels nourished and looks glowy in the AM. It has very little scent. It contains vitamins, ceramides, chestnut extract, niacinamide, and vitamin C. Note it does also contain peppermint extract (irritant)! I don’t find it to be as soothing or helpful for my winter dryness. Now that it’s warmer, I like this mask more (use 1x/wk or so), but for the price of $48 for just over 2oz, I’d rather get the YTTP Superberry because it works for me year round. If you’re curious, there is a 1oz size for $25. This would be a good option for those who don’t have severe dryness or sensitivity to peppermint.

Overnight mask sent from the heavens
@herbaldynamicsbeauty’s Hyaluronic Acid & Oat Overnight Mask has been a very welcomed addition to my nighttime routine! I’ve been using it a couple of times a week when I feel like my skin needs an extra boost of hydration and love, when I wake my skin feels soft and glowy 🥰✨ After shooting this, I rubbed it on my body, bc I didn’t want any of it to go to waste. I would definitely repurchase this, it’s $17 and should last you for quite sometime. Key ingredients include oat extract, hyaluronic acid, tremella mushroom, aloe vera extract, broccoli extract, and rose essential oil! It’s also cruelty, sulfate, paraben, and phthalate free!

My Favorite Korean Skincare Products
🇰🇷 Korean Skincare has been gaining traction in the U.S. over the last several years and rightfully so. Korean skincare is typically affordable, effective, focused on hydration and sun protection, and several years ahead of the U.S. in trending ingredients. My combo dry skin LOVES the focus on hydration and I personally really enjoy a longer multi step k beauty routine. I typically et my k beauty products on YesStyle, Wishtrend, Amazon, or Sephora if it’s something like Laneige or Glow a Recipe. Here’s some of my favorite K Beauty products I currently have on rotation: (From top left to bottom right) 🇰🇷 Dr. Jart Ceramidin Cream: A very rich, barrier replenishing moisturizer for when my skin is dry or irritated. 🇰🇷 Glow Recipe Plum Plump Serum: An antioxidant rich gel texture hyaluronic serum. I use this daily. 🇰🇷 Mauve Fantastic Ever Cool Kids Never Sleep Cream: A water cream with some loud 80s packaging that I am LIVING FOR. This is a good dupe for the Tatcha Water Cream. 🇰🇷 Then I Met You Living Cleansing Balm: A barrier replenishing cleansing balm rich in sea buckthorn oil. 🇰🇷 Dear Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream: A cream gel consistency moisturizer with blue tansy. Great for calming any inflammation. 🇰🇷 Krave Oat So Simple Water Cream: A very lightweight water cream with soothing oats. 🇰🇷 Purito Centella Green Level Safe Sun: Get 👏🏻 Hip 👏🏻 To 👏🏻 This 👏🏻 Sunscreen 👏🏻 it’s like $8 and completely invisible and weightless. This is like my fourth bottle. 🇰🇷 Then I Met You Soothing Tea Cleansing Gel: An antioxidant rich mildly exfoliating gel cleanser. I feel very so so about this. It’s fine but I wouldn’t buy again. 🇰🇷 Laneige Cream Skin Toner: A milky hydrating toner with meadow foam seed oil. 🇰🇷 Dear Klairs Supple Preparation Toner: An incredibly hydrating and plumping watery gel consistency toner. 🇰🇷 Amore Pacific Treatment Enzyme Peel: A richly foaming powder enzyme cleanser gentle enough for every day use.

I ❤️ OATS! (Acne routine)
Hi everyone! Since I’ve been struggling with maskne recently, I’ve tried to be minimal with my skincare using ultra-soothing products. Here’s my current routine: AM: Aveeno - Calm + Restore Nourishing Oat Facial Cleanser Love this new cleanser! Super gentle but still effective. FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Wild Oat Hydrating Toner I ❤️ THIS TONER! I live in a college dorm and the bathroom is down the hall, so I use this as soon as I get back to my room after washing my face. Fragrance free (yay!) and soothes my cystic acne. Aveeno - Calm + Restore Oat Gel Moisturizer This gel-cream is great! I’ve used Neutrogena - Hydro Boost Gel-Cream and PURITO - Deep Sea Pure Water Cream as gel moisturizers in the past, but I’ve really been enjoying Aveeno’s new oat version! Clindamycin gel (prescribed by dermatologist) - topical antibiotic, similar to benzoyl peroxide’s antibacterial properties. DIFFERIN - Oil Absorbing Moisturizer SPF 30 Just got this a few days ago. Sunscreen is essential, especially since I’ve been using tretinoin. PM: Same cleanser, toner, and gel-cream. CeraVe - Skin Renewing Night Cream I use this as a thicker moisturizer on top. Non greasy and does not cause breakouts. Tretinoin (prescribes by dermatologist- I wait for my moisturizer to dry and soak in completely, and apply tretinoin after. I find my skin is least irritated that way. I hope bringing my routine back to the basics lets the tretinoin and clindamycin work their magic. I’ll keep you guys updated! 😊❤️❤️

My Favorite Serums (Dry & Senstive Skin) 🤩
When I shops for a serum, there are two things I evaluate before spending the 💵: * Can it help dry skin? * Will it irritate me? Well these two products are what been saving my skin the past few months from stress and dryness. They don’t do anything fancy other than hydrate my skin & exfoliate to give me a glow 🌟 The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 can be purchased for just $6 at ULTA and is the best HA I have used so far. It plumps my skin, packs in hydration, and is non-irritating. The texture is like a lightweight gel and little goes a long way. I apply it by pressing it into my skin after I have applied my toner. HERBIVORE - Prism 12% AHA + 3% BHA Exfoliating Glow Serum is an amazing AHA/BHA exfoliator and perfect for those of us with dry skin. It has a very similar texture to the HA from The Ordinary, and feels just as hydrating too. This product is a bit on the pricier side [retailing for $54] so if this is out of your price range, my next fave exfoliating serum would be The Ordinary - Lactic Acid 5% + HA ⭐️ The Prism serum I typically apply during my night routine and the Hyaluronic Acid is used on an everyday basis. I love using both with my HONEST - Calm On Foaming Cream Cleanserand my FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Wild Oat Hydrating Toner 💛 I usually follow up with the FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration as my moisturizer 🧴 ✨ What are your favorite serums? #CheriePartner

Toner for dry skin
Toner for dry skin
First aid beauty have some amazing products and it's been one of my favorite brands. None of the product which i have tried have disappointed me. Their wild oat Hydrating toner is one of my favorites. The main INGREDIENTS in this are, Colloidal oatmeal which helps and soothes dry stressed skin. Propolis extract which is derivative of honey which helps renew your skin appeareance. Wild oats which help soothes and nurture skin barrier. The TEXTURE is unlike any other toner. It's not watery or runny at all. It's like a hybrid of toner and serum and more like essence. I love using as an extra addition to my routine to combat any dryness or irritated skin. Hydration is the key for a beautiful skin. Be it oily, combination or dry skin, keeping skin Hydrating is very important according to me. This toner helps my skin so much and also soothes the redness and parched skin. It's helps to retain my moisture barrier. It quickly absorbs in the skin and also works so well under makeup. This toner retails for $22 for 6oz.

Toner for Sensitive Skin
Toner for Sensitive Skin
This toner is alcohol free and powered by oatmeal. That means that this toner will hydrate the skin while relieving and soothing the skin. This toner has a milky consistency and it’s very thin. Since it’s really watery, it skins into the skin quickly. I’ve used this toner for about a month now and I can say it’s definitely hydrating. I initially wanted to try it out because I have super reactive and sensitive skin, so I wanted something that would help calm and hydrate. I have really dry skin, so using this toner isn’t enough on its own but it’s a great product to layer under serums and moisturizers. I love that it has colloidal oatmeal to soothe the redness in my cheeks and calm my skin when it’s feeling sensitive. It also contains honey, a great antiseptic and hyaluronic acid, which is great to layer underneath other hydrating products. I’m really enjoying this extra layer of hydration in my skincare routine. I would highly recommend this to those of you with sensitive and dry skin! It’s a great deal for the price, the amount of product that you get is great. I think the product itself is also worth the price because it’s effective.

✨Midnight Blue Calming Cream i
✨Midnight Blue Calming Cream is a gentle treatment cream that calms & soothes sensitivity. It has been indispensible as I navigate these sensitive irritated rosacea waters. Star ingredients are Guaiazulene extracted from chamomile oil, which carries powerful skin calming abilities, and Centella Asiatica, which helps hydrate and relieve redness. It’s also has a beautiful blue hue and silky texture. ✨The supple preparation toner balances the skin’s pH level and improves the effectiveness of subsequent skincare steps. Plant extracts and soothing ingredients combine to form a calming, non-irritating, hydrating toner. Key ingredients include Phyto-Oligo to deeply moisturize, beta-glucan and hyaluronic acid to prolong hydration and wheat amino acids to help reduce inflammation. This is easily one of the most hydrating toners I have tried. However, because I’m neurotic about residue post cleansing I tend to use a more traditional toner on a cotton pad to make sure there are no traces then follow up by patting this into the skin. . ✨Both of these products from klairs have had a spot in my collection for quite some time and even though I may put them aside to test other products, they remain tried and true favorites.

YTTP Adaptogen Moisture cream
YTTP Adaptogen Moisture cream
So the YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream with Ashwagandha + Reishi was sent as a surprise gift to me and I have been using it for 3 weeks. Which really goes to show just how little you need to cover your whole face well. I think this is meant for any skin type really but would probably say dry skin types would benefit the most from it. The adaptogens and mushroom ingredients definitely help calm my skin a bit and reduce irritation. No breakouts from using this at all, in fact I think I’ve seen less breakouts since I started it. The texture is a bit thick but not too heavy for daytime use. It applies well and absorbs so quickly so I don’t look to shiny after applying which is always a plus. There doesn’t seem to be a fragrance to it which is one of my favorite things. After I apply it, it just feels like my skin is amazing and not like I have a moisturizer on. Overall I’ve been a huge fan. Definitely going to be purchasing the full size soon because it’s so nice. I would definitely reccomend this to anyone looking for a decently moisturizing moisturizer. Safe for acne (at least for me), and sensitive skin!

Thirst Dehydrated Sensitive Skin
Thirst Dehydrated Sensitive Skin
As someone with sensitive but very dehydrated skin I have to be careful what kind of moisturizers I use on my face. Most have been known to either burn or clog my pores. This product did neither. I haven't heard many people talking about this product so I felt the need to share it since I have fallen in love. I found this product through a korean skincare youtuber. After listening to her explain the product I was sold instantly. I was even more sold when I found out you get 200 ml of product for $15 on amazon!! Key Ingredient in this moistuizer: Capsulized Ceramide Complex: When you squeeze this product out you'll notice little white balls that then burst and smoothe out on your skin. This is a cermide skin complex that encloses the ceramide, to keep it "fresh" and help abosrb the maximum amount to the skin. ( I don't know how scientific based this actually is but all around pretty cool and inovative.) This product is also fragrance free, paraben free, hypoallergenic, and skin sensitivity tested. I can use this product day & night without it causing any irritation or mixing weirdly with other products. I can tell this will be a favorite of mine for a while!

Products for Sensitive Skin
🍌 So I don’t have particularly sensitive skin but I definitely am prone to SENSITIZING my skin which I blame on my late stage chemical exfoliant and retinol addiction. I’ve had my share of contact dermatitis and these are some products I love when my skin is really reacting. 🍌 Glow Recipe Banana Soufflé Moisture Cream - a lightweight soothing moisturizer. The texture of this is really interesting...it kind of jiggles in the jar and reminds me of banana pudding before it sets. This moisturizer contains magnesium and banana which are both great for calming irritation. It has a very light banana scent and is a great daily moisturizer if you have sensitive skin or are using heavy actives. 🍌 REN Evercalm Overnight Recovery Balm - a heavy balm for really dry or sensitive skin. If you’re oily you’ll hate this stuff. It has the texture of literal Vaseline. But if your skin is really dry or irritated this will calm it down. I use this when my skin is in a state of emergency and it always helps. This balm contains a plethora of soothing and moisturizing botanical oils...it does also contain essential oils and fragrance if that’s something you’re sensitive to. 🍌 Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream - this is a GREAT moisturizer for stressed out skin. This one is a little heavier than the Glow Recipe but not too rich. The star ingredient in this is Guaiazulene which is derived from chamomile and gives the cream it’s beautiful blue color. This also contains Centella Asciatica a great soothing ingredient for calming redness.
