Will you sashay or will you stay? 😔🤚🏼
I thought I'd give some thoughts on skin care products I have tried in 2020. I will talk about more products in future posts, but let's start with this. What I loved ❤ NEOGENLAB - Sur.Medic Azulene Soothing Pepthide Ampoule
What am I doing wrong in my routine??!!!!
I made a post about a week ago detailing my skincare journey, and how I finally felt like I was getting on track again to my pre-covid glowy skin, never having many breakouts... but this week that all went in the garbage. I was so embarrassed to post these photos but I’m seriously so desperate for help to fix this, so I’m going to drop my routine below and hope that some saint out there will give me some advice on what’s going wrong! (my AM/PM routine are both the same) 1. Cleanse with the Murad - Clarifying Cleanser( has a 1.5% salicylic acid concentration) 2. On dampened skin I use the The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5, I would say I use about half a dropper or so full of the serum all over my face— not sure if that’s too little or too much? 3. For my toner I change between ELEMIS - Balancing Lavender Tonerand the SK-II - Facial Treatment Clear Lotion Toner , using a cotton pad on my acne breakouts and my T-zone 4. I go in with my The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% but I recently found out i am using WAY more than I need to be, going in with about a half dropper full of serum every time I use the product. Thinking that might be a big factor, but I’m still not quite sure... 5. I also occasionally go in with the The Ordinary - ''Buffet''but again, honestly not even sure if I’m using the right amount, I have truthfully been using a full/half dropper of serum from each product I have from The Ordinary. 5. For my moisturizer I am currently using #Bvlgari - Nourishing Face Emulsion[products]#(I ran out of my previous moisturizer so I found a travel size bottle of this I got from a travel pack while flying) Not sure if this is even good tbh but it seems hydrating???? I also use salicylic acid spot treatments/acne patches occasionally before I go to bed to help with brutal whiteheads like the ones above. I know a lot of my breakouts have unfortunately been due to mask wearing, however, I make a point to wash my masks after every use, never rewearing a used mask, I wash my silk sheets/pillowcases OFTEN, I rarely put my phone up to my face to talk, but when I do I sanitize the screen. I feel like I have an entire ritual at this point, however I still deal with these breakouts/redness. I bought these items above because I had heard nothing but stellar reviews, however I am seeing little to no change in my routine, and if anything, it’s all significantly worse than the bare minimum routine I had a year ago before discovering skincare. My confidence hurts and so does my wallet 😭😭😭😭 I am a very critical person of my skin and my appearance, which never mixes well when I suffer from any kind of breakout or inflammation, but if anyone out there has a little advice for me, I would be so appreciative 😌
Daily Skincare Regimen
Hi guys! 💗 I thought i would share what products I use on a daily basis. Morning: 1. Begin with cocokind - Facial cleansing oil - use damp warm wash cloth to wash it off 2. Cleanse with bliss - Rose Gold Rescue Cleanser - rinse with cool water 3. Use I'm from - Rice Toner - apply with a cotton round & after applying, squeeze excess product out of cotton round onto hands & apply directly to face, allow a few minutes for product to absorb into face 4. ApplyThe Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% - warm 2 drops in hands & press into skin all over face, allow a few minutes to absorb 5. Apply The Ordinary - ''Buffet'' - warm 2 drops in hands & press into skin all over face, allow a few minutes to fully absorb 6. Apply The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 - warm 2 drop in hands & press intk skin all over face, allow a few minutes to absorb 7. Put a dime size amount of The Ordinary - Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA into hands & warm. Apply all over face & neck 8. I got back & forth between which eye cream I use but I usually go with thebliss - Eye Do All Things Eye Gel & apply a dot under my eyes & use the roller ball to rub it in & depuff my eyes. Night Time: 1. Apply cocokind - Facial cleansing oil all over face & use a warm damp washcloth to remove 2. Cleanse face with bliss - Rose Gold Rescue Cleanser - rinse with cool water 3. Every other night I switch between using The Ordinary - Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution by putting it on a cotton round & applying it to my face, allow a few minutes to absorb completely 4. Also every other night (the same nights that I use the Glycolic Acid Toner) I apply PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator with a cotton round & allow a few minutes to absorb before proceeding with the next step 5. Apply I'm from - Rice Toner with a cotton round & after applying, squeeze excess product out of cotton round onto hands & apply directly to face, allow a few minutes for product to absorb into face 6. Apply The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% - warm 2 drops in hands & press into skin all over face, allow a few minutes to absorb 7. Apply The Ordinary - 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Moroccan Argan Oil - warm 2 drops in hands & press into skin all over face, allow a few minutes to absorb 8. Warm a dime size amount of CeraVe - PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion in between hands & apply all over face & neck 9. Last but not least I apply KATE BLANC - Castor Oil to my lashes, eyebrows, & I warm a drop between my fingers & apply it under my eyes before bed (product not pictured) & that’s it, my daily AM & PM skincare routine!! Thanks so much for reading guys & let me know if you have any questions, comments or advice!
PRO TIP! when you apply a retinoid before bed, the oil from your skin can cause the retinoid to travel on your face or transfer onto your pillowcases. this can cause the retinoid to get on sensitive areas and cause burns! for me, it was my eyelids. i applied the cerave healing ointment on the burns and they healed in a day. now every night before bed i apply the healing ointment and now no more burns!!! my acne was bad and left deep scars and with these products my skin has never looked and felt better. VANICREAM - Gentle Facial Cleanser LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Adapalene Gel .01% Topical Retinoid Acne Treatment VANICREAM - Lite Lotion CeraVe - Healing Ointment
winter moisture boost!
I only started my skincare journey in January of this year, so I've been adjusting to the seasons as I go. I've noticed as we transition into colder weather that my skin feels moisturized to the touch, but my face feels simultaneously too oily and too dry/tight. Here's my spring/summer a.m. skincare routine for reference: COSRX - Low PH Good Morning Gel Cleanser L'ORÉAL - Revitalift Derm Intensives Vitamin C Serum The Ordinary - Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG CeraVe - AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30 I knew I didnt want to add another moisturizer under my already thick moisturizer SPF (my skin hates weighty moisture), so I bought the COSRX - Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence . It adds a good dose of moisture, while being light-weight enough for my oily combination skin. Within a couple days, my skin stopped feeling parched! I would absolutely recommend for combo to oily skinned peeps!! Such a good winter supplement to my daily regime!
Introducing niacinamide in my routine 🤠
I posted about The Ordinary Niacinamide+Zinc a couple weeks ago and said I'd wait a bit until giving more thoughts on the product. For me, this serum was irritating and caused redness. Pretty sure my skin does not tolerate zinc so much. My skin just didn't feel great even after taking all the precautions I could based on the reviews I have read online. It's already snowing a lot where I live and I rather not keep on trying something that irritates my skin when it's going to get -35°C soonish. My rating is based on my personal experience though. Texture was ok, price point is good and I love the glass packaging. I did want to see if the zinc was the problem and I think it is. I started using the iUnik Black Snail Restore serum and it did not irritate my skin like TO did. It's formulated with snail mucin and centella asiatica, both soothing and hydrating ingredients. It is also formulated with niacinamide, so I do get the benefits (regulates oil, protects against sun damage, treats hyperpigmentation, etc.), but without the irritation TO caused to my skin. Also formulated with ingredients from black rice and black sesame which also fade hyperpigmentation and acne scars. I find it's a great way to introduce niacinamide into your routine without jeopardizing your skin so much. Only downside is that it takes longer to see results with this one. Glass packaging, costs more than TO but still a good price point and works for my oily skin.
Snail mucin for your skin
Comprised of 70% black snail secretion filtrate, the íUNIK - Black Snail Restore Serum is a hydrating powerhouse that claims to provide skin nourishment, reduce the appearance of premature aging, brighten the skin, soothe the skin, and increase cell regeneration. Other key ingredients in the formula include centella asiatica leaf water, glycerin, niacinamide, sodium hyaluronate, mugwort, adenosine, arginine, some fermented ingredients, and five superfood extracts. This has that familiar slimy viscous gel texture that you can associate with most snail mucin based products. This starts off as a lightweight slimy gel but quickly turns into a watery consistency as you massage it into the skin. It quickly sinks in while providing the skin with an adequate amount of hydration without any tackiness. I fairly enjoyed this serum but it wasn’t anything spectacular in my book. After a couple weeks of use, the results I saw were more hydrated skin, some mild soothing of redness around my cheeks, and slightly faster healing time from my acne breakouts. My skin didn’t look that much brighter and I can’t really comment on any reduction in the appearance of premature aging. I basically expected this to be a hydrating serum which was what I essentially got. This is also formulated without any fragrance. It also didn’t cause any negative reactions on my skin which is always a win for me. Overall, this is a wonderfully formulated serum that most skin types could utilize without any issues. I enjoyed it but I’m not sure I’d be rushing out to repurchase it just yet. Regardless, this is still a great product but I’m looking for something a bit more in terms of results.
Rosacea/Sensitive skin routine!
This is my new routine for the fall. I recently found out I have rosacea and hormonal acne so I have been experimenting with what products would best suit my skin. For reference: the hormonal birth control pill is what has cleared up my skin dramatically, and I cannot attribute my routine to clearing it up. But my routine is keeping my skin’s moisture barrier soft, healthy and glowing. I will add a brief overview of my routine and why it’s working so well for me! HERBIVORE - Pink Cloud Rosewater + Tremella Creamy Jelly Cleanser This cleanser is everything.... it’s low foaming, soft and gentle and effectively melts off any and all makeup and sunscreen. It’s non stripping, the only smell to it is very natural and not strong at all, and it’s also very hydrating. Tremella mushroom provides more hydration than regular Hyaluronic acid, and plant based squalane emulsifies all of the makeup and dirt on the skin to gently yet effectively whisk it away. When you rinse, your skin feels so comfortable and never tight/dry. My tried and true CeraVe hydrating cleanser started burning my skin so this cleanser has been a game changer for me! evian - Brumisateur Natural Mineral Water Facial Spray I made a post about this mist. I find that the water in NYC can be a little hard so using this resets my skin’s pH balance and makes for a very soothing product in my routine. I follow with moisturizer after using this lovely fine mist. Kiehl's - Kiehl's Ultra Facial Moisturizer This is such a lovely, simple cream. It has squalane, glycerin, apricot, avocado, olive and rice bran oils, and glacial glycoprotein. This moisturizer is thick enough to help the skin retain moisture and stay soft and supple without being heavy. I love this and I think it’s perfect for the fall to keep combination/normal/oily skin in check! DRUNK ELEPHANT - F-Balm Electrolyte Waterfacial Mask Such a lovely product from drunk elephant! This is a multi use moisturizer/mask. It’s a leave on treatment chock full of hydrating and nourishing ingredients like electrolytes, vitamin F beads (they melt when you massage it in), a large dose of Niacinamide and squalane. This product is so lightweight yet moisturizing and really locks in hydration. I use this on top of my moisturizer night and day for glowy and happy skin! SUNDAY RILEY - Auto Correct Brightening and Depuffing Eye Contour Cream One of the only eye creams I actually like! There is a slightly botanical smell to it, but it doesn’t linger. This cream is very moisturizing, illuminating and instantly brightening/depuffing. When I use it I don’t have to use much concealer for my dark undereyes! GLOW RECIPE - Avocado Melt Retinol Eye Sleeping Mask A very gentle retinol eye cream. No peeling/irritation. I find this helps to smooth texture and helps milia too! Not very clinical but still a nice product.
Retin-A (0.025%) Before and After
Hi guys! I’m 27 years old and I started using Retin A OBAGI - Tretinoin 0.025% Cream in March 2020. I have been using a pea sized drop every night as well as a little on my neck. After picture was taken August 2020! The wrinkles around my eyes have significantly reduced! I did get super dry skin when my skin was adjusting but power through it! After I apply this at night to a clean face, I’ll add a layer of Kiehl's - Kiehl's Ultra Facial Moisturizer . P.S. I took these pictures from my dentist. I got veneers on my 4 front teeth
Gentle Am routine ✨
Alright, so this is my routine in the morning. I haven’t changed it for winter weather yet and I don’t know if I will honestly. My morning routine contains a few actives but mostly trying to take care of my dehydrated combination skin. I only rinse my face with lukewarm water in the morning except if I “slugged” the night before. I will use sioris - Cleanse Me Softly Milk Cleanser as this is my current pm second cleanser. 🥛 Like my pm routine, I use both a first essence and a toner. My favorite steps even if they’re not 🌈 essentials 🌈 . In the am I use NEOGENLAB - Real Rerment Micro Essence (thx james welsh) and I have to say I love it. My skin drinks it right up and automatically calms any tightness I might feel on my skin. I then follow with I'm from - Rice Toner (again, james). I love that it contains niacinamide as I don’t like using it in high amounts (like in a serum) it’s also quite moisturizing for my combination skin. 🍚 Really makes your skin glow. I will then alternate the use of the The Ordinary - Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12% and PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Azelaic Acid Booster as my actives. On days I use the Vit C, I will use right after the toner and will follow with The Ordinary - Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG . The caffeine solution was really working the first months but now my under eye doesnt seem to react as much to it... will probably not buy it again but the bottle last ages so I will finish it. ☕️ For the ascorbyl solution, it’s a really nice and gentle option. Will switch to straight L ascorbic acid serum when the ascorbyl is done though :) 🍋 If I use the azelaic acid, I will skip the vit C and apply the caffeine solution straight after toner. I will then put on the VERSED - DEW POINT Moisturizing Gel-Cream which is a super nice soothing gel moisturizer with really impressive ingredient list for a drugstore product. I will THEN apply the azelaic acid over it to prevent any irritation. 🌿 I fill end the routine with the famous PURITO - Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50+ . Do I really need to explain how awesome this product is ? 🌞 If you have any recommendations to make it more “vold weather friendly” your suggestions are appreciated ❄️
Maskne - Please help!
I have combination acne-prone somewhat sensitive skin. My “maskne” has gotten horrible lately! My current skincare routine is: AM Cleanser - Good (Skin) Days - A New Leaf Cream Cleanser Toner - Benton - Aloe BHA Skin Toner Essence - NEOGENLAB - Real Rerment Micro Essence Serum - Beauty of Joseon - Calming Serum : Green Tea + Panthenol Moisturizer - dear, klairs - Fundamental Water Gel Cream SPF - Supergoop! - 100% Mineral Smooth & Poreless Matte Screen SPF 40 PM Oil cleanser - Then I met you - Living Cleansing Balm Cleanser Treatment (2x/week) - NEOGENLAB - Neogen Dermalogy A-Clear Aid Soothing Essence Pad Essence Serum Moisturizer Any advice would be appreciated! I’m not sure if any of my products are making it worse.
✨MY BLACK FRIDAY MUST HAVES✨
So... Black Friday has always been a big deal for me. Every year I make a point of staring a note in my phone of everyone I will have to buy for and what I want to surprise them with. I keep this going through the year and whenever I have a good idea I just pop it in my note. (I didn’t come up with this, I stole the idea from my super organized boyfriend) And then every year I buy all my presents for everyone on Black Friday, or whenever the B.F sales start. I love doing this cause I always feel like I get the best price, and I know that everything will arrive before Christmas. Now, it’s best to stick to the list but I can’t help but get caught up and snag a few things for myself. Here’s the deals for me that were simple too good to pass up; Biossance - 30% off site wide! now if you’ve been on my profile you know that their eye cream is a holy grail product for me! I decided to spring for the full size and try something new as well! I grabbed the BIOSSANCE - Squalane + Marine Algae Eye Cream and the BIOSSANCE - Squalane + Glycolic Renewal Mask, and for only $7 I couldn’t pass on the travel size BIOSSANCE - Eye Rescue Duo. The Laurel and Reed 3 month clean skincare box subscription - 25% off on Cratejoy! I’m absolutely obsessed with this box subscription. If you love clean skincare the products are AMAZING and the value is incredible. It’s all full size products and the brands they work with are killer! I also love that they do a colour theme every month so the boxes are so aesthetically pleasing. These boxes are only $47.95 for a 3 month subscription and have at least $125’s worth of goodies but honestly usually way more... it’s a good deal at the best of time but right now you can get an additional 25% off. Some of the items I’ve received in the past from L&R include; GRAYDON - Face Glow #Ere Perez - Cranberry Lip & Eye Butter[products]# LOLI - Plum Elixir LATHER - Honey Moisture Mask with Propolis Extract SRANGE BIRD - Inner Clarity Cleanser ONE LOVE ORGANICS - Botanical C Facial Serum PURE ALCHEMY BEAUTY - Turmeric Glow sahajan - Nourish Face Cream Any deals you just couldn’t pass up this Black Friday ?
🌙 CURRENT NIGHTTIME ROUTINE 🌙
My biggest skincare goals right now are focused on texture and hydration. I find it can be challenging to find a routine that is balanced in exfoliants and hydrating/ calming products. I’ve tried to rush my skin into results and it never works, and while I wouldn’t consider this my “holy grail routine” it’s something that’s working for me right now to target specifically texture, without drying out my skin. Here’s what I’m using, and why I love it! 1st cleanse: EARTH HARBOR - Sunshine Dew Antioxidant Cleansing Oil a heavenly smelling, effective oil cleanser that gently removes any sunscreen, makeup, or gunk from the day. 2nd Cleanse: CLARISMA - Cool Ocean Breeze Daily Cleanser this cleanser has really been the driver in retexuring my skin, the fruit enzymes in this cleanser are gentle exfoliants that didn’t give the dead skin cells on my face a chance! It really brightened and purified my skin. Serum: #Intoxicated Cosmetics - Snail Venom Serum[products]#[FiveStars] I just did a results post of this serum, and was amazed and how effective this serum was! Check out the post, you gotta see it to believe it 😉 Eye Cream: FARMACY - Cheer Up Brightening Vitamin C Eye Cream with Acerola Cherry I like this eye cream, nice texture and good brightening results! I’ve enjoyed using this eye cream but will probably go back to BIOSSANCE - Squalane + Marine Algae Eye Cream when this pot is finished. Treatment: HERBIVORE - Bakuchiol Anti-Aging Serum I love this natural retinol alternative! I’ve been nervous to integrate a retinol into my routine so I’ve been happy to use this alternative as a placeholder. Great hydrating and plumping qualities! Moisturizer: SATURDAY SKIN - Waterfall Glacier Water Cream love the bouncy gel texture of this cream. I like that it’s a little bit cooling upon application, calms my skin and makes me feel ready to catch some zzZZzzZ’s. If my skins feeling really dry I’ll add 1-2 drops of HERBIVORE - Emerald CBD + Adaptogens Deep Moisture Glow Oil to my moisturizers, this oil is amazing for hydrating, calming and reducing redness! And of course lip care! I always slather on a nice coating of SUMMER FRIDAYS - Lip Butter Balm before bed, smells amazing and gives my lips a nice drink! Helps me wake up with soft, hydrated lips. I also have been rotating these three masks and using each once per week! LATHER - Honey Moisture Mask with Propolis Extract : For deep hydration, and soothing dermatitis flare ups. HERBIVORE - Blue Tansy Resurfacing Clarity Mask : For resurfacing. I only use this for 8-10mins at a time right now to ensure I’m not over exfoliating or over-drying my skin ORIGINS - Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask to Clear Pores : For pores, T-zone only!

GLOW RECIPE - Papaya Sorbet Smoothing Enzyme Cleansing Balm LOVE LOVE LOVE, would repurchase again!!! This is my second type if cleansing balm ive used, and i really do enjoy double cleansing. I used this first on dry face, then emulsify with water, then rinse! Then i follow up with the cerave hydrating cleanser. Ive been using this combo for as long as i had this balm and it leaves my face hydrated and non-stripping. I really enjoy the price as well compare to the FARMACY - Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm which i love as much, just slightly more expensive. I really enjoy this but would also want to explore cleansing oils. Any suggestions? YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - POWER OF DREAMS KIT with AHA + Vitamin C I am currently using DRUNK ELEPHANT - T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Resurfacing Night Serum once/twice a week, i have the mini bottle, and i would never purchase the larger size due to the price. While waiting for the product to finish, i bought this to replace it. The thought of having 11% aha in this toner scares me, but i find it as equal as the drunk elephant one, ingredients wise. Any thoughts??? Thanks guys. 💗
My skincare (normal to oily sensitive skin)
My current routine! I have ups & downs & some I want to improve but this is what it’s currently at! Not pictured: TATCHA - Calming Foaming Enzyme Powder Absolutely love! Was going back & forth between this version & the one for oily skin but this one is juuuuuust right for my picky skin!! Pictured: (in order of use) TATCHA - The Essence Plumping Skin Softener Omg-it’s a game changer! This stuff may just look like fancy water (lol who am I kidding-I use evian - Brumisateur Natural Mineral Water Facial Spray so yeah-THATS fancy water but I love it! lol) but this stuff is 100% the real deal! I’ve noticed that products glide one & I don’t have as much of the shiny effect after putting on my skincare routine! Yay! DRUNK ELEPHANT - Shaba Complex Firming Eye Serum Ok so warning on this one-you’ll never use a full pump unless you share with 2 other people at the same time-this pump is stupid-I hate it but the product so far has done a good job & hasn’t made me run to go find a new one right away-could it be improved...? Yeah-but it’s a good option for me for now 😊 also-I don’t like using this by itself cuz it’s drying... so for a fix to that I added.... DRUNK ELEPHANT - C-Tango Multivitamin Eye Cream One again-you don’t need a full pump unless you’re sharing-no one has that much surface area to cover with this...ugh. This is the step that was missing when I just was using the firming serum-this is hydrating & goes after because it’s thicker. The combo works for me. Would I rather have 1 product? Yes. Would I rather have a better pump that doesn’t portion out share sizes of product? Yes.... am I rushing to Sephora to find a new one? Ha! No.... Curology - Curology formula My 2 cents on those people who hate this? It’s not for you & that’s ok! But dang does this work for me!! It’s a must have!! Love it!! -or- never and DRUNK ELEPHANT - T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Resurfacing Night Serum I haven’t used this enough to rate but this is supposedly suppose to help with dark spots & pores? We shall see tester size...we shall see... TATCHA - The Water Cream Omg moisture heaven! Smells like a spa, glides on like a dream AND has gold in it? Sign me up! This stuff is amazing-I love it & it does wonders for me! Add ons! TATCHA - THE SERUM STICK Not in love-good for dry spots or singular areas every once in a while but meh-not worth it & not a fave of mine. TATCHA - Luminous Dewy Skin Mist Also-not in love. Is it nice when I’m dried out? Yeah! Does it last? Nooooot really? Meh-I have it I’ll use it & I won’t buy again... TATCHA - Silken Pore Perfecting Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 35 PA+++ Meh-this is just....meh. Again will use it up & not rebuy....
cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence. this product is 96% snail mucin 🐌. Snail mucin, it's the slimey little trail the snail leaves behind, and comes from your ordinary garden snail. No snails are harmed when it comes to collecting snail mucin, quite the opposite actually. In order for a snail to be able to produce optimum mucin, it must be well rested and feel comfortable and relaxed in its environment. How cosrx collect their mucin is, they'll be placed on a mesh net in a dark room (they're nocturnal) and are left alone to freely roam the mesh for 30 minutes, then are placed back in their home, the mesh is collected and hey presto! You've got yourself a mesh covered in mucin. The two weeks that I've been using this product, here are my visible results: -Plump and hydrated skin -Existing cystic pimples have dramatically reduced in size - Acne scars seem much less visible -No new breakouts 🎉 The product is thick and slimey in its consistency, clear in appearance and has no noticeable smell. It applies and absorbs effectively and layers well. I use this straight after toning and have no problem layering other serums and moisturisers on top, they all absorb beautifully and no stickiness is left behind. Snail mucin contains ingredients like glycoproteins, hyaluronic acid, and glycolic acid. Benefits of using mucin: -Seals in moisture and helps skin heal -Rich in hyaluronic acid and antioxidants -Plumps the skin and smoothes out fine lines and wrinkles -Stimulates collagen production -Fades acne scars and dark spots -Improves skin's texture 🐌 For me, this has been my hero product and has seriously helped improve my problematic skin.
COSRX-Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence
Azelaic Acid: You Need This In Your Routine
Azelaic acid is amazing. It occurs naturally on the skin and is produced by grains in labs, holding anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties rather unique to such a gentle, multifaceted antioxidant. It helps with skin texture, redness, uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation, rosacea, and even minimizes the look of active breakouts. All of the pictured products are free of fragrance, alcohol, and essential oils. facetheory - PoreBright Serum N10 ($19 per 30mL) features star ingredients like 10% azelaic acid, 10% niacinamide, salicylic acid (<2%), aloe, and sodium hyaluronate to calm skin while addressing issues like congested pores, uneven tone, acne, oily skin... it’s a versatile serum that I enjoyed. The serum is light and moisturizing, with good spreadability. This is the gentlest of the three in my experience. PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Azelaic Acid Booster ($36 per 30 mL) is a game-changer. I enjoyed FaceTheory N10, but something about PC’s formulation transformed my acne experience. 10% Azelaic acid, salicylic acid (<2%), licorice root extract, allantoin, and a variety of humectants + emollients come together in this light gel-cream to give significant texture-smoothing, tone-correcting, acne-preventing results. Whenever I apply this in the AM (which it is gentle enough to do), my blemishes are reduced remarkably by the evening. I also have seen such significant fading of my acne scars that I already got a back-up! Its cream formula allows for use as a spot treatment if you prefer that. This is my favourite of the three pictured. The Ordinary - Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% ($7.90 per 30mL) is a simple formula, with 10% Azelaic acid and vitamin e as the star ingredients in a variety of silicones and emollients. I noticed significant hyperpigmentation reduction with this cream, but I cannot stand the silicone texture. It has a strange grit to it, no matter how much I shake up the bottle. I also think my skin dislikes heavy silicones, as I experienced increased breakouts when using this, despite the wonderful brightening and calming properties it has. Not sure I’d recommend this unless your skin handles silicone well. The matte finish would probably be enjoyed by oily skin types.
PAULA'S CHOICE-10% Azelaic Acid Booster
Azelaic Acid Is The Most Under Appreciated Acid
Azelaic acid isn’t talked about nearly enough. It’s not an AHA, nor a BHA, but it’s still a gentle exfoliant and so many other things. Let’s talk about why this acid helped my sensitive, combo skin have less acne and fade the dark spots dramatically. • Exfoliant: Acids, at a high enough concentration, dissolve the glue that holds dead skin cells together, allowing them be sloughed off while you cleanse or against your pillow as you sleep. Using them throughout the week helps to keep skin tone bright and smooth, plus can help with fading discoloration such as PIH, hyperpigmentation, and dark spots. Azelaic acid isn’t an AHA like glycolic and lactic acid, nor is it a BHA like salicylic acid. It’s a dicarboxylic acid and is a... • Melanin Inhibitor: Azelaic acid’s biggest feature as a hyperpigmentation fading ingredient is it’s ability to suppress melanin synthesis! This will help not only help lighten current dark spots, but also should help in preventing them from forming. It’s been the best ingredient for my hyperpigmentation, hands down: I saw distinct fading of dark spots within 2 weeks. There’s a reason I’ve been using it for 3 months now! • Antioxidant: Yeah, azelaic acid is amazing. It not only lightens hyperpigmentation and smooths texture, but also reduces skin damage preventatively by fighting off free radicals that would break down collagen. It also soothes skin wonderfully thanks to the anti-inflammatory aspect of its antioxidant status, making it a very gentle exfoliant. • Antimicrobial: Last but not least, azelaic acid is antimicrobial. That means it stops the growth of microorganisms- and it’s actually already produced by healthy yeast on our skin, so it’s not killing the good bacteria, just the variety that cause acne and such. This makes it legitimately amazing for people struggling with acne- whenever I apply this to a breakout in the morning, the blemishes are much less red and a bit smaller by evening. Azelaic acid been a miracle find for me and I now understand why it’s often prescribed by dermatologists. I personally prefer PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Azelaic Acid Booster , but due to its small (but still possibly irritating to those with rosacea) salicylic acid content I also like to mention The Ordinary - Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% , whose only negative feature is the siliconey texture.
PAULA'S CHOICE-10% Azelaic Acid Booster
Review: Glossier’s Super Pure 💙
Glossier. - Super Pure Niacinamide + Zinc Serum - a watery serum formulated with niacinamide (B3) and zinc. Glossier describes it as the product you need “to help blemish-prone skin chill out.” Honestly, I’d just describe it as the product you need to help skin chill out. Niacinamide is great for so many reasons. It calms skin, reduces redness, decreases blemishes and congestion, and with long-term use can help with hyperpigmentation and fine lines. Zinc also works to fight blemishes, control sebum production, heal damaged skin, and support collagen production. 💙 RESULTS: Used together, these ingredients work to prevent future breakouts, fight current flare-ups, and keep pored decongested. The result? Calmer, happier skin! If I have a breakout even in a small area of my face, super pure is the first thing I reach for. I also love using it if my skin is irritated from over-exfoliation, diet, or just having a bag day! I also use it several times a week even when nothing’s wrong to help keep redness at bay and prevent future flare-ups. 💙 SUPER PURE IN YOUR ROUTINE: Super pure has a watery texture, no smell, and sinks in very quickly. It plays well with some of my favorite ingredients so can easily be layered with other treatments, but it can cause sensitivity and generally decrease effectiveness if used to close together with acids and vitamin c. If you want to use both, leave 10-20 minutes between treatments or use one in the morning and one at night! 💙 OVERALL: I love this product. As you can see, I’m almost through the bottle and will probably be repurchasing! I highly recommend this if you’re looking to add a soothing serum to your weekly routine
Glossier.-Super Pure Niacinamide + Zinc Serum
Niacinamide: My Favourite Ingredient
Niacinamide is one of my all-time favourite ingredients and it’s really not talked about enough. Niacinamide is proving to be a power player in skincare, managing to soothe inflammation, reduce redness, control oil production, minimize the appearance of enlarged pores, even skin tone, improve texture, improve the appearance of fine lines, and improve skin radiance. It’s truly such a multi-faceted ingredient and I recommend it in all routines! Here are my experiences with some popular niacinamide serums: • The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% was my first niacinamide serum. It played a huge role in transforming my skin from oily to normal/combo. It also helped tons with my acne... until it didn’t. The zinc in this formulation is hit-or-miss, being a hit for most! But I found myself in the small population of the miss category, my skin reacting poorly to prolonged use. I still recommend folks wanting to try niacinamide on a budget give it a try at $5.90USD for 30mL and $10.60 for 60mL. •THE inkey LIST - Niacinamide Oil Control Serum came next, its $6.99/30mL price tag making it a good zinc-free budget alternative. This product utilizes niacinamide in a base of glycerin, squalane, and hyaluronic acid, focusing on light hydration alongside the touted oil control. The lip does get a bit clogged with crystallized product, but the applicator is convenient for travel. I enjoyed this serum, but the ingredient list is a bit basic. • PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Niacinamide Booster , at $44.00 per 20mL... I was hesitant to purchase this serum. But I’ve got two back-ups of this serum on the way, if that says anything about how “worth it” it is. It helped reduce the appearance of the sebaceous filaments on my chin, forehead, and the bridge of my nose, plus I experience less irritation from altering my skin routine than I normally would... and I find my skin just feels bouncy after I apply this serum- perhaps an effect of the absolutely stacked INCI list! Whereas the other formulas are bare bones, PC packs in CoQ10, vitamin c, and allantoin, boosting its anti-aging and soothing properties. If you can afford it, I’d give it a try! Its pore-minimizing results alone will keep me repurchasing.

TOP 3 FOR ACNE PRONE SKIN
1. BLUME - Meltdown Oil for Acne-Prone Skin wow. Wow. Wow. She’s great. I use this product as a spot treatment directly on active spots. Also on budding cystic acne she breaks it down pretty quickly (1-3days it’s GONE). I’ve seen others mix in with moisturizer - my skin needs to soak this product in separately in order to actually gain the benefits of a moisturizer afterwards. I use this twice ++++ daily and I have NOT burned/over dried. Highly suggest if you have acne prone skin/combo/mild cystic acne like myself. The scent/colour is purely a result of the natural oils inside* 2. The Ordinary - Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2% THE BEST VIT C serum I have tried. I mix this in with a moisturizer in the morning/evening and damn what a glow getter. I’m on my second lil bottle and will continue to repurchase as not only the price point (which is a bargain at $10) but the very real benefits are astounding. Again, doesn’t dry me out. Helps immensely with uneven skin tone, REDNESS, dark spots/lifting acne scars. You will see results over time, remember exfoliating serums/products take weeks!! Just a few drops will do!! 3. The Ordinary - Retinol 0.2% in Squalane This was my first time introducing a retinol to my regime (hence the very low %, if you’re beginning I suggest this). A game changer. As I’ve reached a point with my acne where I feel it’s relatively under control (knock on wood) I felt I could begin a retinol and not fear the wrath of burnt broken skin. I have deep set wrinkles on my forehead/crows feet (thank u astigmatism) and use this product 1-2 times a week exclusively at NIGHT depending on how my acne is doing. My face does have a slight warmth to it directly after use but I promise it is not a slow burning of your skin. It is simply the retinol doing its job and driving blood to the surface for collagen production/cell turnover. This is another product where results take weeks to become visible but like anything skincare related, it takes its sweet time. These are my HOLY GRAIL products. My skin simply cannot survive without them. I hope some of the info was helpful/informative!!!
