Battle of the chemical sunscreens! ☀️

mikachu
I’ve been trying different chemical sunscreens over the past year or so, and here are my thoughts! Bioré - UV Aqua Rich Watery Gel SPF 50+ PA++++
I bought this after seeing that it was a cult favorite on r/AsianBeauty. The texture is reminiscent of the Neutrogena Hydroboost Gel-Cream, except maybe a touch lighter. It’s a jelly-like gel-cream and has that same occlusive feeling. It has a light sunscreen-y scent, but not as strong as drugstore sunscreens. This didn’t irritate my skin, but I didn’t like the occlusive feeling. It made me feel oily, especially during the winter when I wore this over heavier moisturizers. However, my boyfriend has dry skin and loves this product. I would recommend it for people with dry skin as I would definitely consider this a moisturizing sunscreen! Supergoop! - Everyday Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50 PA ++++
Supergoop is also a cult favorite for sunscreens and was recommended to me by my Curology provider. I really enjoyed this sunscreen! The texture is like a watery cream. It has a light scent (I’m not sure how to describe it? Vaguely floral?), but no synthetic fragrance. It’s water and sweat resistant—I’ve worn this sunscreen while hiking and skiing, and had no problems with reapplication. The only downside for me was that it is quite dewy and the shine doesn’t really die down. Might be better suited for dry skin rather than oily or combo skin. PURITO - Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50+
I love this sunscreen! The texture is similar to Supergoop and is also a watery cream. It is scentless. The ingredients list is amazing and has soothing ingredients like glycerin, niacinamide, and madecassiside that you would normally find in a moisturizer. The finish is dewy, but unlike the Supergoop one, the dewiness does fade throughout the day. If I use a lot of hydrating layers before applying moisturizer and sunscreen, or reapply it throughout the day, this product can be a bit too dewy/occlusive for me, but overall I love this product and would repurchase! Krave - The Beet Shield
This is my holy grail sunscreen! The texture is like a lotion-based serum—it’s watery and very light. This product is scentless and has antioxidants like beet root extract and resveratrol to help fight free radicals from sun damage. What I love about this product is that it doesn’t feel like you’re using a sunscreen, it feels more like an antioxidant serum. The finish is dewy, but it dies down pretty quickly and leaves you with a more natural-looking dewiness. Even after reapplying multiple layers throughout the day, I haven’t experienced any pilling. Liah Yoo, the founder of Krave Beauty, has said this sunscreen is not sweat resistant since they wanted to make a lighter formula that people would be encouraged to use everyday, but I don’t mind as this is so pleasant to apply for general daily use. Highly recommend this product!

lenarosemWould you recommend the purito or the beet sheild first ? I’ve had my eye one both for a little while and idk which one to choose lol

mikachuIn the summertime I liked the Beet Shield better as it’s thinner/lighter on the skin and doesn’t feel like you’re wearing anything. But now that we’re in winter, I find myself reaching for the Purito one more often! It’s thicker and more moisturizing, which I need in the wintertime when my skin gets really dry. The Purito one is also cheaper too. Hope this helps!

Battle of the sunscreens ☀️🧴
Ever since the purito ‘scandal’ I went into a sunscreen shopping spree and tried a few. PURITO - Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50+ - I loved this sunscreen, it was moisturizing, didn’t leave my face oily or with a white cast and offered supposedly SPF 50 protection. Some lab results tested it and it came back at around SPF 19 and another test came back at SPF 30ish. I obviously no longer count on this sunscreen as my primary sunscreen but when working from home and far from windows I wear it and try to reapply it, not throwing it away until it’s finished! It’s an affordable physical sunscreen. Neutrogena - Hydro Boost Sunscreen SPF 50 - this sunscreen is a chemical sunscreen. I learned after I bought it that one of the ingredients is not good for the coral reefs so never buying again. It burns, leaves my face oily and has a strong scent that I don’t like. As a chemical sunscreen it doesn’t leave a white cast. ETUDE - Sunprise Mild Airy Finish Sun Milk SPF 50+ PA+++ - I bought this off of a recommendation for a substitution for the purito one. It’s very light and absorbs easily but it does leave a white cast which lead me to buy the next one. Australian Gold - Botanical Tinted Face Sunscreen SPF 50 - this sunscreen is awesome. I never wear makeup so I was nervous I’d look weird/different with a tinted sunscreen but that’s not the case. The color is to offset the white cast that is hard to not have with a mineral sunscreen. It’s pretty affordable at $10 for 3oz. Though I’ve tried multiple sunscreens I’m not done experimenting and trying new ones, just waiting to use up these four first. I go through sunscreens pretty fast though, with using them everyday and having to reapply once or twice. Let me know what your experience with these sunscreens has been and if you have any recommendations for physical sunscreens that don’t leave a white cast and don’t leave your face oily!

a truly unseen sunscreen! 🌞👀
I know a ton of people are searching for a new sunscreen after the PuritoPURITO - Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50+ one has been recalled, and I was lucky enough to test out the BLACK GIRL SUNSCREEN - Black Girl Sunscreen SPF 30 ($15.99 USD) recently. as an esthetician, my biggest and #1 recommendation to combat anti-aging is RELIGIOUS use of sunscreen as early as you can start. 🧖‍♀️for reference, my skin type is: combo (oily/dehydrated), formerly acneic, prone to hyperpigmentation, light/medium skintone 🧴FORMULA: as seen in the photo, the Black Girl sunscreen is fairly thick and a little goes a long way. it’s not viscous by any means and is a thicker, creamier formula that goes on like a lotion. 👃🏼SCENT: this sunscreen has a typical sunscreen aroma, which is fairly strong and lingers throughout the day. if you’re sensitive to the smell of sunscreen, I wouldn’t recommend because the scent was strong, especially with a mask on. ⏱WEAR: my skin is naturally oily/dehydrated, so when I first put this on I was a little ~shook~ that it immediately made me so dewy and was scared that it would make me look like a frying pan. it did NOT, however, turn me into a greaseball or get too shiny throughout the day and gave me just enough for a glass skin, moisturized look. I don’t have a deeper complexion, which this sunscreen is known for, so I couldn’t attest to whether it gave me a strong white cast but I do experience a slight white cast with my Australian Gold - Botanical Tinted Face Sunscreen SPF 50 sunscreen which is tinted and a lot thicker, as seen above. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ overall, I would give this sunscreen 5/5 stars! I would definitely purchase it again even though I have oily/dehydrated skin. if you have dry, normal/combo skin, I think this would be AMAZING for you. if you have oily skin, I would test it out a bit if possible, because it may feel a bit heavy on your skin, but is a great option for a hydrating, winter sunscreen.

My Godsend Sunscreens!🌞🌞🌞
I've previously only used Anessa sunscreen but I got tired of it and decided to try out new ones, surprisingly finding these three sunscreens which are all great and my favorites of the year! 1)Supergoop! - Everyday Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50 PA ++++ ($19/71ml) is a water-resistant and sweat-resistant sunscreen that remains effective for 80 minutes. It's the most affordable at only $19 for 71ml, the most among all three sunscreens. It has a lotion texture which leaves the skin a bit shiny without a white cast. It can be used as both a facial sunscreen and a body sunscreen, so it has the best value for money. 2) Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 PA+++($32/50ml) is a water-resistant and sweat-resistant sunscreen that remains effective for 40 minutes. It has a transparent gel-like texture which spreads easily and is neither greasy nor leaves a white cast. I love using it! 3) ALGENIST - SUBLIME DEFENSE Ultra Lightweight UV Defense Fluid SPF 50 ($44/50ml) has a correction liquid packaging like Anessa's with a more lightweight texture compared with Supergoop! PLAY Everyday Sunscreen. It's neither greasy nor leaves a white cast. It offers the best user experience, although it's the most expensive among all three. If you have any questions or suggestions, tell me below😘

I never understand the hype for Supergoop before trying these...👉👉👉
A good brand only needs to do one thing well, like Supergoop!. It completely solves the problems I have with sunscreen. I want my sunscreen to not ball up, to have a high SPF and it'll be best if I can also use it as a primer. Supergoop! has all kinds of sunscreen products which I have personally tried 6 different types of, later purchasing 3 of them in full size. Supergoop! - Everyday Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50 PA ++++ I'm using this great sunscreen which is also a great primer every day. It's very moisturizing and it gives me healthy, radiant skin. I also feel that it leaves my skin with a protective layer but it doesn't ball up even when applied on thick! Its high SPF gives me a sense of security. Supergoop! - Superscreen Daily Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 40 PA+++ I'm also using this very gentle sunscreen moisturizer every day. It has a soft, watery texture and is really moisturizing. It's equipped with SPF 40 but its scent is really unappealing to me. Supergoop! - 100% Mineral Invincible Setting Powder SPF 45 This setting powder is always in my bag and I'll use it whenever my skin gets oily or when I need to reapply my sunscreen during work. The powdered sunscreen saves my makeup from becoming messy from reapplying sunscreen. Its attached brush applicator also saves me the trouble of bringing a powder puff. Can you recommend any other sunscreens you like?👇

Review: the beet shield
People have been raving about this product, so I decided to give it a try!! What is the best shield? Well, on the krave beauty website it says the beet shield is a lightweight, soothing day fluid that protects skin from environmental aggressors. Whether it’s sun damage or harmful irritants, The Beet Shield keep pollutants to keep you from getting beet-red. You’re supposed to use this as the last step in your AM skincare routine. My review: This product is great! Before this I was using the CeraVe - AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30 which would ball up on my face in small white chunks. My makeup underneath looked awful and it was because of this SPF. Having the beet shield underneath was a game changer for me. This product not only leaves your skin looking dewy and fresh, but my makeup underneath was so smooth. This product does not look like a normal sunscreen. It comes out in a pale color and goes on almost invisible. It’s a very unique formula! I really love this product and I recommend giving it a go! Krave - The Beet Shield

Krave - The Beet Shield Everyday, your skin is bombarded with environmental aggressors and can have a hard time fighting them off on its own. Time to call in The Beet Shield. Think of it as your own personal secret service; it will keep you protected from all sides and around the clock (no cool nickname included). It’s also loaded with beetroot extract to add antioxidants and reduce pigmentation from sunburn’s past. However, unlike other daytime fluids, The Beet Shield doesn’t irritate skin or leave a white cast you’ll avoid looking like you’re doing candy cane cosplay. I really love this gem .I Definitely Recommend and it worth the price!! Have u tried any krave products? Tell me ur experience. XoxO

Sunscreen for brown skin (no tint)
We make the most of the 5 minutes in the sun by building a #sunscreentower ! 🌞 Coming from #sunnycalifornia☀️ and #india the #wintersincanada take some time to get used to! My biggest concern was: should I use sunscreens in the winters?! After doing some research I realised we should be wearing sunscreen everyday! 365 days a year, inside or outside, rain or shine (or snow)! So that’s what I do now! 💛 I wanted to highlight these two sunscreens as they are the only ones that don’t leave a tint on my #brownskin I bought the Bioré - UV Aqua Rich Watery Gel SPF 50+ PA++++ from Stylevana and LA ROCHE-POSAY - Anthelios XL Ultra-Light Fluid SPF 50+ from Shoppers drug mart So What do you think of my #spftower ? Lemme know in comments! 😁 #wearsunscreeneveryday #sunscreeneverywhere #sunscreeneveryday #larocheposay #anthelios #bioresunscreen #towerthursdays #towertuesday #sundamagetreatment #sundamagedskin #bioré #bioresunscreen #bioresunblock #skincarecanada #skincareblog #skincareblogger #brownskinsunscreen #sunscreenforbrownskin

Day one of Tretinoin 0.04%
I’m a special ed teacher of students with moderate intellectual disabilities. Currently doing both in person (hello maskne) and online teaching (aka stressssssss). Also my district told me 3 days ago I’m getting three new students so stress times ten!! I never used to get breakouts. They started probably my junior year of college, so four and a half years ago. I’ve always been conscious of skin care and my acne never got out of hand, I just could never get rid of the ever present 2-5 pimples on my face at all times. They definitely appear most around my period. Its definitely the worst it has ever been this year with a lot of added stress on top of wearing a mask all day long. I feel like I’ve tried everything. Over the last five years I’ve gotten on birth control, done proactiv, Curology, rodan + fields, differin, every benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid face wash or mask out there, I even drink a teaspoon of liquid chlorophyll every day to try and detox from within. I also drink at least 64 oz of water every day. I try to drink more, but as a teacher I don’t get many bathroom breaks. I’m beyond frustrated and feel like I just can’t get my face clear! I gave Differin a solid chance because I really thought that, since it used to be prescription only, it would work. After 4 months of using it, I feel like it did an okay job. I never really got big painful pimples, but I never really got those anyway and I was still getting the same amount of overall breakouts each month. I decided I need to try something stronger, but I didn’t want to have to go to the dermatologist. That’s when I found Rory! I was prescribed Tretinoin 0.04% with Azelaic Acid 0.8% and Vitamin E and hyaluronic acid. It was $5 for my first bottle and will be $75 every 3 months from here on out. I got approved within a few hours and it arrived at my apartment in 2 days. I’m doing this post because I never actually take pictures to compare progress (because I’m so sick of never actually seeing any progress!!) and to try to wish for some good results finally! Here’s the rest of the routine that I’ll be doing: AM- LA ROCHE-POSAY - Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Face Cleanser VICHY - LiftActiv Specialist Peptide-C Anti-Aging Ampoules VICHY - Minéral 89 Face Serum COSRX - Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence LA ROCHE-POSAY - Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer Bioré - UV Aqua Rich Watery Gel SPF 50+ PA++++ PM- VERSED - DAY DISSOLVE Cleansing Balm spectro - Jel Cleanser VICHY - Minéral 89 Face Serum COSRX - Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence CeraVe - Skin Renewing Night Cream Then I’ll do the Tretinoin last Wish me luck!!!

The Beet Shield SPF — Krave Beauty
The Beet Shield SPF — Krave Beauty
Function: An SPF 50+ sunscreen packed with antioxidants meant to improve the health of your skin while protecting it from the sun. It works for all skin types and is to be used every day as the last step to your routine in the morning! Texture: It comes out pretty thick, but rubs in and absorbs quickly/easily! Really does feel like a “fluid” after a second of working it into your skin. Experience: I’ve had this sunscreen for a few months now and even though I switch different sunscreens into my routine every now and then, I always find myself going back to this one! I bought it because I had wanted to try Krave for a long time after seeing it so hyped up on Insta. I really do love this sunscreen. It leaves my skin with the perfect dewy, glowy finish. It sits well on my skin and I can’t even feel it after it soaks in. There is no white cast. There is alcohol in it (5th ingredient) which is probably what helps it dry down so fast. I don’t notice it drying out my skin at all, as there are ingredients included to counteract the drying effect that alcohol can have. I recommend this sunscreen to everyone! It is so so so important to protect your skin and this one does an amazing job. It’s pretty affordable at $20 for about 1.6 ounces of product — there are cheaper sunscreens, but the ones that I’ve tried haven’t come close to The Beet Shield!

what better day to talk about SPF than sunday? ☀
what better day to talk about SPF than sunday? ☀
let me start by saying, I was raised thinking that because I was brown, I didn’t need sunscreen (laughing sweat emoji) thankfully, that misconception has been dispelled. EVERYONE needs sunscreen and I now LOVE it. it’s arguably my favorite part of my AM routine. I love changing it up, I love testing different formula, and I love talking about it lol. here’s the ones I’ve currently been rotating through, with some quick thoughts: PETER THOMAS ROTH - Max Sheer All Day Moisture Defense Lotion SPF 30 Sunscreen Lotion max sheer SPF 30 this is one of my top 3 favorite formulas. it is hydrating without being greasy, it sinks in quickly, and it leaves my skin looking and feeling plump and beautiful. no white cast on me! PETER THOMAS ROTH - Water Drench Hyaluronic Hydrating Moisturizer SPF 45 SPF 45 is a tad bit more hydrating, but the issue I ran into was TASTING THE SUNSCREEN no matter how I applied it. I didn’t apply it on my lips but I swear it seeped in through my skin. for those reason, I’m out. lol, jk, but I don’t reach for it like my other ones. no white cast on me. FIRST AID BEAUTY - Weightless Liquid Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 weightless mineral SPF 30 I went through the ringer with this one, lol. the first time I applied it, it was perfect. I didn’t even feel it, BUT my skin got insanely dry? legit dehydrated. the second time, I applied a little more, no dryness, but it felt super heavy and greasy. third time, I applied it with a stipple brush, and it felt like a CC cream. it’s tinted so it provides a smidge of coverage, which is nice for my no makeup days. I read some people had issues with piling, I found it did best over heavier creams. no white cast! Supergoop! - Glowscreen Sunscreen SPF 40 glow screen SPF 40 I loved this the first time I applied it. then, when I realized I wasn’t applying the right amount for my face (1/4 teaspoon), I had to admit it felt pretty heavy and greasy :(. no white cast, but pretty shimmery for all over the face. not my fave. dear, klairs - Soft Airy UV Essence SPF 50 PA ++++ soft airy essence SPF 50 the is also in the top 3 group. incredibly lightweight, the most protection, and zero white cast. it also dries down to the most beautiful satin finish. love love love this one. SPF Rx - Ultra-Clear Daily Skin Hydrator SPF 50 ultra clear daily hydrator SPF 50 this is it, my favorite SPF. well, one of three at least. I absolutely love what this does to my skin. my skin feels so firm, but not tight. even when using the 3 finger method, this sinks in seamlessly. plays perfectly with the rest of my routine, never experienced any white cast, piling or tasting (?) lol. it’s also mineral based so I can’t imagine this formula could be anymore perfect if it tried.

Great Korean Sunscreens!!
Great Korean Sunscreens!!
My previous post was all about my favorite sunscreen ever!! This one is about few other Korean beauty sunblocks that I have tried and loved❣️ 1) Missha Essence sun Milk 2)Krave The Beet Sheild 3)Purito Centella Unscented Sunblock 4)Dear Klairs Everyday Sunscreen All the above sunscreens are very light, doesn’t cast a white shade on your face after application and is very great for layering with other skin care products or with makeup. These products are not heavy, not oily and doesn’t clog your pores. I loved how these products did a good job protecting my skin from the sun and at the same time didn’t leave my skin oily . They dry very quickly and gives a light matte finish to your face which works great as a base for the makeup and it holds the makeup in place for a longer time!!

The BEST K-Beauty Sunscreen!
The BEST K-Beauty Sunscreen!
Confession: I used to be one of those people that didn’t believe face sunscreen was necessary. I would watch my mom religiously apply SPF every morning and think that it was just an optional precaution that I personally didn’t need to worry about, especially now that we are at home more often. Turns out I was very wrong. Sunscreen and SPF are a MUST, even if we are staying inside! I’ve learned about how important it is to protect our skin from sun damage and UV rays and I immediately started doing research to find a sunscreen I could add to my skincare routine and wear every day. I’m absolutely obsessed with The Beet Shield from Krave Beauty. It’s lightweight, applies beautifully without any white cast, and has not irritated my skin. It has wonderful ingredients such as beet root and Vitamin C that give my skin a natural glowy look when I put it on. I apply it after my moisturizer as the last step in my routine in the morning. A former SPF skeptic turned sunscreen fan, I highly recommend this sunscreen to give your skin some love and protection from the sun ✨ Krave - The Beet Shield

Happy Fourth of July weekend everyone🇺🇸! It’s no secret that I am obsessed with sunscreen and heading into the long weekend, I’m highlighting all my favorites for sun protection: FACE 🎆 elta md SKINCARE - UV Shield Full-Body Sunscreen Broad-Spectrum SPF 45 I start every day with this year round. It’s targeted at normal to oily skin, and has a lightweight finish. Even on top of my face oils, this doesn’t sit too heavily on my face even during the summer 🎆 Supergoop! - Glow Stick SPF 50 My summer obsession, this reef-safe, face oil/spf stick keeps you glowing, hydrated, and protected all day long 🎆 Neutrogena - Ultra Sheer Liquid Sunblock Broad Spectrum SPF 70 another great stick for on-the go reapplication, this one has a more matte finish and a classic fresh neutrogena spf smell 🎆 Kiehl's - Ultra Facial Moisturizer SPF 30 my daily spf before I started using elta md. It’s better for normal to dry skin and I actually prefer it to elta md for winter because it focuses on moisturizing ingredients alongside spf 🎆 sun bum - Sunscreen Lip Balm SPF 30 I love lip balms with sunscreen! This one tastes/smells like coconut and has aloe for hydration. The biggest downside is that it melts down like coconut oil so if you apply more than a super thin layer you’ll feel like you’re eating this. 🎆 BIOSSANCE - Squalane + Zinc Sheer Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 PA +++ another lightweight, reef safe sunscreen that leaves no white-cast. I have several sample size bottles of this that I keep everywhere but probably wouldn’t buy the full size as I find it a bit greasy/sticky BODY 🎇 Sun Bum Broad Spectrun SPF 50 (cannot find in cherie) is a great all around sunscreen for long days on the water! It smells like banana laffy taffy, rubs in easily, and is water resistant for 80 minutes 🎇 Supergoop! - Glow Oil SPF 50 I love body oils so I was naturally drawn to this product. It has a spray nozzle for easy application or can be dispensed into your hand and spread on. This absorbs immediately and leaves you glowy all over...swoon! 🎇 Lubriderm Daily Moisture Lotion with SPF 15 (also not on Cherie) is how I finally convinced my sunscreen-hating fiancé to use daily sun protection. He uses it on his face as well as his body and loves that it feels like a moisturizer rather than a sticky sunscreen. ☀️ I hope you all have fun in the sun this weekend (with lots of spf of course 😉). What’s your go-to sunscreen?!
