Youth to the People Empties 🍃
YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superfood Cleanser I was looking for a gentle cleanser and bought this sample-sized bottle after hearing Hyram rave about this product. I also have a friend with oily skin who loves this cleanser. Texture - the texture is the same consistency as a shampoo or liquid soap, and becomes a foamy lather when you rub it onto your face. Scent - I actually quite enjoyed the scent of this product. It does not contain synthetic fragrance, but it smells like a green smoothie. Application - YTTP packages their products in glass bottles and jars, which I appreciate from an environment sustainability standpoint. But it does make this product a little risky to use if you wash your face in the shower. I accidentally dropped my bottle in the shower once—it didn’t shatter, but it chipped a piece of enamel off of my bathtub 😐 Other than that, the product was easy to pour out of the bottle. Results - I wasn’t a huge fan of this product. It didn’t cause any breakouts or irritation, but every time after I used it, my face would feel tight and dry, and I felt like I would have to immediately moisturize. I think it was too harsh for my sensitive skin, but people will oily or more resilient skin might like this. Would not repurchase for myself, I ended up finishing this product off as a body wash 🤷🏻♀️ YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream with Ashwagandha + Reishi I received this mini jar as a sample in one of my Sephora orders. Texture - the texture is a slightly whipped cream. It reminds me of whipped cream in the tub, but slightly thicker in consistency. Scent - like the cleanser, this also does not have synthetic fragrance, but I’m not sure how to describe the scent? It kind of smelled like flour mixed with baby powder to me, but it wasn’t too overpowering or obvious. Application - this comes in a glass jar. Results - I felt very neutral about this product. I saw that some people experienced irritation due to sensitivity to the mushrooms in this product, but I didn’t experience any. It moisturized my face fine, but felt no different than an average drugstore moisturizing cream. Given this and the fact that the price for the full-sized jar is rather high, I would not repurchase. If you end up trying this product out, I suggest patch testing to be sure that you don’t have a sensitivity to the mushrooms. Hope this helps! I know Hyram and a lot of other people love this brand, and I appreciate their commitment to sustainability. However, I felt pretty meh about both of these products and am not super interested in anything else from them at this point in time.

Drugstore moisturizer: La Roche Posay Toleriane
I bought this after skincare Youtubers Susan Yara and Liah Yoo recommended it as a non-irritating, light drugstore moisturizer. The Toleriane line from La Roche Posay is supposed to be formulated specifically for allergy-prone and/or sensitive skin. LA ROCHE-POSAY - Toleriane Ultra Night Cream for Sensitive Skin Texture - the texture of this cream is more like a gel. It’s very lightweight, but not watery. Scent - this product is scentless and does not have any essential oils. Application - the packaging of this product is really interesting. There are no preservatives, but it comes in a sterile airtight cylinder. The nozzle is a twist-top that you twist to open and close the nozzle hole. I did really like the innovative packaging and how compact the product was for travel. Results - I applied this product in the mornings as a daytime moisturizer after serums/essences and before sunscreen. From the ingredients list and reviews, I was confident that this product would be good. The ingredients of this product are amazing—the first three ingredients are water, glycerin, and Squalane—and the product also contains Niacinamide. However, it wasn’t suitable for my skin. While the product itself is quite lightweight, it doesn’t quite dry matte and leaves more of a shiny gel finish. It also was not nearly occlusive enough for me, even with a moisturizing sunscreen on top. I had to apply multiple layers throughout the day, otherwise my face would feel tight and dry after a few hours. I tried using it as an eye cream since it’s supposed to be gentle enough to use around the eyes, but started getting a bit of a red rash on my eyelids so I stopped. Maybe the Niacinamide is too strong for the skin around my eyes? Not sure. Overall thoughts - I think this could be a really great daytime moisturizer for someone with oily skin, but I can’t imagine it being suitable as a nighttime moisturizer, even for oily-skin people. The ingredients are great, but it’s just not heavy and occlusive enough to lock in the moisture for the whole night. I will not repurchase this, but for really oily skin it might be a good fit!

Battle of the chemical sunscreens! ☀️
I’ve been trying different chemical sunscreens over the past year or so, and here are my thoughts! Bioré - UV Aqua Rich Watery Gel SPF 50+ PA++++ I bought this after seeing that it was a cult favorite on r/AsianBeauty. The texture is reminiscent of the Neutrogena Hydroboost Gel-Cream, except maybe a touch lighter. It’s a jelly-like gel-cream and has that same occlusive feeling. It has a light sunscreen-y scent, but not as strong as drugstore sunscreens. This didn’t irritate my skin, but I didn’t like the occlusive feeling. It made me feel oily, especially during the winter when I wore this over heavier moisturizers. However, my boyfriend has dry skin and loves this product. I would recommend it for people with dry skin as I would definitely consider this a moisturizing sunscreen! Supergoop! - Everyday Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50 PA ++++ Supergoop is also a cult favorite for sunscreens and was recommended to me by my Curology provider. I really enjoyed this sunscreen! The texture is like a watery cream. It has a light scent (I’m not sure how to describe it? Vaguely floral?), but no synthetic fragrance. It’s water and sweat resistant—I’ve worn this sunscreen while hiking and skiing, and had no problems with reapplication. The only downside for me was that it is quite dewy and the shine doesn’t really die down. Might be better suited for dry skin rather than oily or combo skin. PURITO - Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50+ I love this sunscreen! The texture is similar to Supergoop and is also a watery cream. It is scentless. The ingredients list is amazing and has soothing ingredients like glycerin, niacinamide, and madecassiside that you would normally find in a moisturizer. The finish is dewy, but unlike the Supergoop one, the dewiness does fade throughout the day. If I use a lot of hydrating layers before applying moisturizer and sunscreen, or reapply it throughout the day, this product can be a bit too dewy/occlusive for me, but overall I love this product and would repurchase! Krave - The Beet Shield This is my holy grail sunscreen! The texture is like a lotion-based serum—it’s watery and very light. This product is scentless and has antioxidants like beet root extract and resveratrol to help fight free radicals from sun damage. What I love about this product is that it doesn’t feel like you’re using a sunscreen, it feels more like an antioxidant serum. The finish is dewy, but it dies down pretty quickly and leaves you with a more natural-looking dewiness. Even after reapplying multiple layers throughout the day, I haven’t experienced any pilling. Liah Yoo, the founder of Krave Beauty, has said this sunscreen is not sweat resistant since they wanted to make a lighter formula that people would be encouraged to use everyday, but I don’t mind as this is so pleasant to apply for general daily use. Highly recommend this product!

Part 3: my quest for the perfect gel moisturizer
I tried 7 different gel moisturizers so you don’t have to! Part 3/3 (Parts 1 and 2 are on my page) I'm from - Mugwort Cream This one was another Liah Yoo favorite that I really wanted to like, but missed the mark for me. It has a nice buttery, gel-cream texture. The scent is quite intense—to me, it smells like pickle juice when wet/in the jar, and like those Chinese herb apothecaries when it dries 😂 The scent does fade after a few hours though. I actually felt like this product was the right amount of moisture and occlusiveness for me, but I think I have a sensitivity to the high amount of mugwort essence. My skin would get little red patches/bumps when I used this product. I’ve tried using it on my hands too as a hand cream, and get the little bumps on my hands too. If you aren’t sensitive to plant extracts or fermented plant extracts, I would recommend giving this a try, but otherwise be sure to patch test before you use it. TONYMOLY - The Chok Chok Green Tea Moist Cream This product has a nice fluffy gel-cream texture and sinks quickly and nicely into the skin. This also felt like the right amount of occlusiveness to me, but I wasn’t a fan of the fragrant essential oils in the product. It has a pretty strong floral/perfumed scent. I ended up finishing off the jar as a hand and foot cream. Would recommend this only if you are not sensitive to fermented plant extracts and/or fragrant oils. Overall thoughts This concludes my gel moisturizers review! At the end of the day, I think as I’ve started using more hydrating serums and essences, my skin type has changed from oily (which is what I always thought I had) to combo with particularly dry patches on my cheeks. Given this, I’ve concluded that gel moisturizers in general may not be a good fit for my skin anymore. I am now in the market for a good cream or lotion based moisturizer for daytime and will be posting my reviews for those products as I try them. Please let me know if you have any recommendations! Thanks for reading!

Part 2: my quest for the perfect gel moisturizer
I tried 7 different gel moisturizers so you don’t have to! Part 2/3 (Parts 1 and 3 are on my page) Krave - Oat So Simple Water Cream Liah Yoo is my skinfluencer bae and I really trust her recommendations and her brand. I wanted to love this moisturizer since it has so few ingredients and is supposed to be great for oily skin, but sadly it was just not moisturizing enough for me. I tried it everyday on my face for about a month in all different ways—after many hydrating layers of toners/essences/serums, with a moisturizing sunscreen on top, mixed with Squalane oil, applied it in multiple layers—and still my face would feel tight and dry after a few hours. Sometimes parts of my face would be peeling by the end of the day too. The texture of this product is beautiful, it’s exactly what you’d expect from a water cream and is scent less. I would recommend this if you have very oily skin, but otherwise I don’t think it will be occlusive enough. Dr.G - RED-BLEMISH Clear Cream This is another product I purchased after seeing it in one of Liah’s favorites videos. I also really wanted to love this product. It has an amazing ingredients list with lots of soothing, moisturizing ingredients like glycerin and cica. The texture is a super lightweight watery gel, and it sinks nicely into the skin. However, I had the same problem with this product as I did with the Krave Oat So Simple. Though I did not experience any peeling with this product, it was not occlusive enough and I would feel tight and dry after a few hours. However, I would still recommend this to anyone with oily skin or people who live in a hot and humid climate. The ingredients are amazing and it didn’t worsen my acne. ETUDE HOUSE - Soonjung Hydro Barrier Cream I read and watched rave reviews about the Etude House Soon Jung line and how it was formulated for sensitive skin. The texture of this cream is more like a gel-cream, I would say. It’s smooth, white, and scentless. However, I had the opposite problem with this cream where I felt like it was too occlusive for me. Like the Neutrogena Hydroboost Gel-Cream, this product also felt like I had a thin layer of Vaseline on my skin. Especially after applying sunscreen, my face felt a little sticky/tacky and looked pretty greasy. The grease does fade after a while, but the tacky occlusive feeling did not fade for me. My boyfriend, who has extremely dry skin, has been using this cream as a daytime moisturizer and his skin loves it. But I would not recommend it to people who have combo or oily skin. Stay tuned for Part 3 of my gel moisturizers review!
Krave-Oat So Simple Water Cream
Part 1: my quest for the perfect gel moisturizer
I’ve always thought I had super oily skin, and because of this I have been using gel moisturizers for daytime for the past year. During quarantine, I ran out of my second jar of Neutrogena Hydroboost Gel and also discovered the world of skincare Youtube and hydrating serums. Thus began my quest to find the perfect gel moisturizer! Part 1/3 (check out Parts 2 and 3 for the rest of the review) Neutrogena - Neutrogena Hydroboost Water Gel Moisturizer This was the first gel moisturizer I tried and honestly, I really liked it. Unfortunately, I don’t have a photo of the gel since I finished my jar already, but the texture is like a watery, blue gel and it didn’t irritate my skin or acne. I also felt like it helped keep my oiliness at bay. However, after I learned more about skincare and how to read an ingredients list, I wasn’t a fan of the synthetic dyes or fragrance in this product. Neutrogena - Hydro Boost Gel-Cream I turned to the other version of this product, which is a gel-cream instead of a gel and does not have synthetic fragrance. The texture is a bit thicker and more jelly-like than the Hydroboost Gel, and it has more of an occlusive dimethicone-y feeling on the skin. My mom, who has oily, mature skin but uses a lot of retinoid products, likes this product, but for me I felt like it was too occlusive. It felt like I had a thin layer of Vaseline when I used it on my face, especially after applying sunscreen on top. But that being said, this product also did not irritate my skin or my acne, so if you have dry skin or use a lot of exfoliants/retinoids, this might be a good option for you. I know Dr. Nina Desai (dermatologist on YouTube) likes and uses this product herself. The other moisturizers will be in Parts 2 and 3 of my review! (Not enough characters to fit them all in one post)

Best blackhead remover!!
I have always been troubled by blackheads, despite having very dry skin!! I had to use blackhead removing strips atleast once in a week. Even then , the strips would not clear them all. I was in search of a product that could keep my blackheads at bay , that’s when I came across PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA (Salicylic Acid) Liquid Exfoliator I have used several different chemical exfoliants before , but all of them just made my skin dry and irritated. Some caused my skin to break out and some others just did nothing to my skin-zero results!! With Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting BHA it has been different. I use it once a day , soon after my morning face wash. I saw results in the very first week, and I couldn’t believe it. I kept using it for another one week and saw my skin change . It started becoming more healthy, my pores seemed smaller and my blackheads were clearing. I still couldn’t believe what I was seeing, I just couldn’t believe that any cosmetic product could actually remove my tough blackheads!! So, I kept using it for another two weeks, and my skin just kept getting better and better. Today, marks 60 days of using this product, and I absolutely love it❣️my blackheads have reduced to a great extend , my pores are no longer visible and I love how healthy my skin looks! I also believe I have the worst kind of blackhead- the kind that causes itching and irritation . My nose and chin are the hotspots for my blackheads, and it makes these areas feel so rough!! After using this product, I have noticed changes in the texture too. My skin has become softer and it has an even more skin tone. To everyone looking for an effective product to fight your blackheads- this is it!! You will not regret spending on this product! ❣️

The holy grail chapsticks !
These two are by far the best chapsticks that I’ve tried. They aren’t sticky, but very smooth and they actually moisturize your lips - it lasts throughout the day and I probably only have to apply maybe once or twice! Unlike some others .. you have to keep reapplying and they just don’t do my lips any justice. I got them both at target and I believe you can find them at cvs. I would definitely recommend if you’re a lip product junkie and looking to find something that can help you stay moisturized and not chapped!

HOLY GRAIL SKIN REPAIRING MOISTURIZER!
The Skin Recovery Cream by Avene is my HG moisturizer for when my skin is absolutely freaking out. I bought this as part of the hypersensitive skin kit and it completely reset my skin. Its marketed as a soothing and protective cream that has minimal ingredients for the highest level of tolerance for hypersensitive and irritated skin. Its also hypoallergenic, preservative free, fragrance-free, paraben-free, soap-free, soy-free and gluten-free. Basically this moisturizer will work for anyone! The texture is pretty thick and creamy but blends into the skin easily, absorbs instantly and feels very lightweight and hydrating. It has zero scent and just feels very comforting and basic on the skin. I highly recomend this to anyone whose skin is burning or irritated as it instantly soothes and protects your skin and will act as an anti-inflammatory for any redness or rashes you are experiencing. I’ve been using this product for about 2 years on and off and I always come back to it when I overdo it on trying new masks and skincare. I think it’s a staple that every skincare junkie should have in their arsenal in case of emergencies. It plays well under makeup, didn’t make me breakout more than I normally do and has a great texture for oily sensitive skin. It is a little bit on on the expensive side $35 for 1.69 fl oz. but so worth it for the ultra clean ingredients and smart sterile packaging. Over this product gets 5 stars from me and I would reccomend it to just about anyone!! Avène - Skin Recovery Cream

Current AM routine (early 2020)
Hey guys :) Thought I’d share my current skin routine that I’ve been using consistently since mid January 2020 For those who don’t know I’m on this whole “less is more” agenda which is why I no longer use a cleanser (in the morning), toner, super expensive serums and/or sprays Pros from this routine 1. Face is QUENCHED (i love using that word) 2. Weightless feel (my face can BREATHE) To keep this simple I use hyaluronic acid - moisturizer - eye cream - SPF Ok let’s start :) reversa - Hydra-Minéral Concentrate Before using this product I was using La Roche posay hydraphase intense serum. That hyaluronic serum was SO GOOD but SO EXPENSIVE for its quantity. $45 a month (no thank u) A super nice lady at shoppers recommended Reversa. Very similar in pricing but that quantity though >>> This product provides me with a plumped and refreshed feel however in regards to hydration and treatment long term this is NOT a product you can use alone (like the bottle says) 4 stars because 1. anti pollutant (these streets stay dirty af) 2. Aloe Vera 🤤 Avène - Skin Recovery Cream Just need to clarify with this product there’s the rich texture vs emulsion... I have emulsion As someone who has eczema, Avene (SUPER UNDERRATED company btw) has been so good to me They talk about thermal spring water in their products a lot and I’m not 100% what that means but I would personally like to bless that water. I get flakey on irritated parts of my face. I thought the rich creamy texture would be better however the emulsion is extremely hydrating and super light. So for my ladies who think you need to layer and drenched your face in order to stay hydrated... girl try this please! I give this 5 because when my skin gets irritated from either sun damage or eczema, the moisturizer doesn’t “sting” or “burn” it does quite the opposite (thank u spring water i think) and that’s why Avene needs the respect that is deserves... NEXT The Ordinary - Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG I’ll be honest I think a lot of eye creams are gimmicks when it comes to curing dark circles. At the end of the day a lot of it comes down to nutrition and genetics so get you an eye cream that FEELS GOOD and provides hydration :) I give the ordinary 4 stars because uh the price and the fact that this product has lasted me almost a year. 2 drops a day keeps the puffiness at bay + I really enjoy the sooth feeling for 2 seconds Kk almost done LA ROCHE-POSAY - Anthelios 50 Ultra-Light Tinted Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 Need an spf that wont give you that pasty white, reflective power ranger sheeny look? Look no further. la Roche posay products are usually eczema friendly so I trust the ingredients for my sensitive gals. The texture is super light you could even mix it with your makeup (yes I’ve tried) Ok thanks for reading 🥺

My AVÈNE collection! Must-buy and Black-list
There was a period of time where my skin went through serious allergies. Redness on both of my cheeks and my t-zone was dotted with pimples and acne. I was suggested with the brand AVÈNE by the dermatologist because of its excellent reputation for sensitive skin. Some products are my lifesavers and really help me get through a tough time. But not all of them are suitable for me. The recommend👑: Cicalfate Restorative Skin Cream： Avène - Cicalfate Restorative Skin Cream This is the first product I tried from AVÈNE and is also the reason why I stick with the brand afterward. This product is dedicated to quick repair of skin problems caused by irritations. The texture is relatively thick and oily, and need some time to be fully absorbed. However, the effect is unbelievably dramatic!! Most of my redness and pimples had vanished. Sticking to it for weeks, my skin became much stronger and the infection was cleared. Skin Recovery Cream: Avène - Skin Recovery Cream My second face cream from AVÈNE, and it didn't disappoint me! Like the Restorative cream, the formula is aimed at skin recovery and protects the skin from external damage. There's another rich version but I bought the light one. Compared to the Cicalfate Cream, this one has a more lightweight texture and is easier to be blended out, not sticky at all. I only use Restorative Skin Cream for the night because it requires time for absorption. While for the Recovery Cream, feel free to use it as either day cream or night cream! The “Meh” 🙅: Thermal Spring Water Spray: Avène - Thermal Spring Water Spray Everyone knows this is the best seller of AVÈNE! However, I didn’t like it that much. It’s promoted as sensitive and dry skin friendly, yes it is. But to some extent, I feel like it has no difference from water, and the ingredient table proves me right…. Although it is not expensive, I think a spray bottle does not worth its value. I felt no improvement in skin condition, leave along expecting it for moisturizing. I will never purchase it again. Gentle Toner: The product is promoted with soothing and anti-irritant properties, and the ingredient is rich with the so-called “Thermal Spring Water”. I mean… let's stop playing a word game, it's just water. I was not satisfied with its effects, and I dislike it in addition to its texture, which is a mix of liquid and oil. Too oily to use in summer or use with other products for the following skincare routine (unless your skin is very, very dry) Deep Moist Lotion: Similar to the Gentle Toner, the “Thermal Spring Water” is its main ingredient. It is a translucent lotion and is very diluted, not nourishing enough for me. It was okay just after you apply it, but then the moisture seems to go away quickly. The toner is too thick, and the lotion is too lightweight, lack of competence to lock the moisture for skin.
