the truth about retinol
retinol is often used in anti-aging products, claiming to help you keep your youth. but is that true? what is retinol a type of retinoid derived from vitamin A, helping move along new cell growth. benefits - fades the appearance of dark spots - minimizes the look of fine lines and wrinkles - smoothed uneven skin texture - removes dead skin cells - tightens pores common side effects one common side effect is slight redness and dryness, which can decrease as you and your skin get used to the product. false retinol myths - you must start with a large amount - results will come immediately - drug store products with retinol don’t work - irritated skin as an effect is normal - it can only help with fine lines and wrinkles in conclusion, i do believe retinol can help many people’s skin! it is a great product when looking for good pore products. when wanting retinol products i recommend the glow recipe avocado melt eye sleeping mask and the glow recipe avocado melt sleeping mask! Skin Update ✨✨
Okay this is a totally non filtered sun photo of my skin. Still working on minor texture this is due to my new skin routine (I posted about my morning and will post my night). I try and show my skin with new routines and products I use because I get so many ! The number one thing I will say is be consistent! I saw a post from @MelaninSkinCareAddict(great post you should go check it out) and I loved it and it inspired me to show results from some advice she saw. My last skin update was 12/22 which I showed a unfiltered close up of my skin and the breakout I had endure out of the states! I will say for texture, hyperpigmentation, and acne you need: effective vitamin C serum- should have vitamin E (tocopherol), hyaluronic acid, and Ferulic acid insta natural - Vitamin C Serum Mad Hippie - Vitamin C Serum retinol- DIFFERIN - DIFFERIN Acne Treatment Gel is my first go to, but now I use The Ordinary - Retinol 0.5% in Squalane GLOW RECIPE - Avocado Melt Retinol Sleeping Face Mask (I use this on nights I don’t use The Ordinary retinol oil .. 2xs a week) cleanser made for you skin: should be tailored and effective my current faves: Murad - AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser (2x week) COSRX - Low PH Good Morning Gel Cleanser (only when I oil cleanse) (3xs a weeks when I wear my night mask) PEACH & LILY - Power Calm Hydrating Gel Cleanser (mostly for nights) toner: a great toner will be your friend! This is important for removing dirts and oils. If you wear makeup this is a necessity. PAULA'S CHOICE - Enriched Calming Toner Murad - Clarifying Toner innisfree - Jeju Lava Seawater Lotion sunscreen: at least spf30 TULA SKINCARE - Daily Sunscreen Gel Broad Spectrum SPF 30 ELEMIS - Daily Defence Shield SPF30 moisturizer: a great moisturizer is your friend! So my faves fresh - Lotus Anti-Aging Night Moisturizer at night SUNDAY RILEY - Tidal Brightening Enzyme Water Cream during the day for hyperpigmentation before sunscreen ✨✨✨✨ Other things I love that have helped COSRX - Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence I use this day and night after my toner. If you neee hydration this is my current go to! SUNDAY RILEY - U.F.O. Acne Treatment Face Oil I now use this on days I don’t use my vitamin C in the morning. PEACH & LILY - Glass Skin Refining Serum This has replaced my niacinamide from The Ordinary. If you want glass skin use this consistently! CLARISMA - Namaste Glow Energizing Face Mask I use this as my daily face mask once a week. I will be posting my detailed night routine soon as I’m redoing my entire on IG 🥰🥰
2020 Top 5 ✨
This year has been a whirlwind! These are my 2020 top 5s: 1. Product fresh - Lotus Anti-Aging Night Moisturizer I’ve been using this for almost 6 weeks now every night and whew! This kept my skin together at night even know as I am healing my moisture barrier. Fresh is definitely on my repurchase list and out of everything this is my everyday product. 2. Trend Retinol A lot of products and routine became “popular” this year. Out of all of these I’ve found this to be the most effective! My skin has cleared up (broke out again), evened out, and reduced in lines and it’s because I have kept a retinol based product in my Arsenal since May ! DIFFERIN - DIFFERIN Acne Treatment Gel The Ordinary - Retinol 0.5% in Squalane GLOW RECIPE - Avocado Melt Retinol Sleeping Face Mask Some of my faves ! 3. My Best Look This was my photoshoot when my son was 2 months old 💙 I spent about a good 2 hours on my makeup and hair that morning so I take pride in it, plus my son face is priceless. 4. Favorite Creators This was super hard! The way I narrowed down my choices were based on who’s post I saved the most. I don’t save a lot of posts so when I do it speaks to me that I enjoyed reading and I know that this persons experience was honest and thorough! I also have some few close but these were my top 4: @JaNeeReviews @skinwithlau @RedheadSkincare @madihomewood 5. What I learned “Great things never come from your comfort zone” I stepped outside of my comfort zone this year. I’m sure everyone did. Mines was personal to me because I started researching more and experimenting on a deeper level with my skin. I found myself trying things I knew nothing about and it felt great! Stepping outside of my comfort zone has been an amazing feeling .. scary but rewarding. I hope to never put limits on my goals and plans !
Awards: Sleeping Masks
Sleeping masks are one of my all time favourite categories in skincare. I have used plenty different ones and I have become super picky when it comes to what I like! I Have four here that are in my arsenal that I have been truly loving. The GLOW RECIPE - Avocado Melt Sleeping Mask Set fresh - Peony Brightening Night Treatment Mask fresh - Black Tea Firming Overnight Mask masks all are a thick creamy consistency whereas the GLOW RECIPE - Watermelon + AHA Glow Sleeping Mask is a thick goop or gel texture. I prefer a sleeping mask that feels heavy on my skin after application and makes my face feel almost greasy the next morning. To me that means that there was ample amount of product to soak in and do it’s work and it’s main job: moisturize. Essentially sleeping masks are just a heavy duty night cream and I literally live for them cause we all know that my skin be hella dry. I find that the peony is my favourite however. It’s a burst of beautiful floral scent the second you open the package which most people won’t like (but I love) and it’s seriously the most thick cream ever. I have used it for a bit now a couple times a week and I look forward to my next use because my skin looks so bright, feels smooth and soft and seriously has improved the hyperpigmentation I have. It’s one of the only products I have ever come across that has made a significant difference - so mighty well worth the $110 price tag! As for the others, I reach for the watermelon when I want some extra hydration to plump up my skin and help it glow. I reach for the avocado when my skin is lacking in moisture, and the black tea is new to me but somehow just makes my skin look good! It looks more clear, tight and crazy smooth. I would recommend each and every one of these masks!! I definitely think they are all pricey, but with a sleeping mask it’s a couple times a week treatment so they last a good while which I believe helps with value!
GLOW RECIPE-Avocado Melt Sleeping Mask Set
Thanks to Vinna, I finally got to try my first Glow Recipe product! KEY INGREDIENTS • Nutrient dense avocado • PHA for gentle exfoliation • Matcha to protect skin • Encapsulated retinol WHAT DOES RETINOL DO? It increases cell turnover and stimulates collagen production to improve the appearance of fine lines, texture, spots and hyperpigmentation, and to clean out clogged pores. HIGHLIGHTS • Creamy, rich texture • Gentle and non-irritating • First time retinol user friendly • Left skin feeling plump and hydrated I knew retinoids could help with fine lines and wrinkles, which aren’t really a concern of mine, so I never thought to try any— But I came to learn that it helps with hyperpigmentation and texture too. I was a little nervous using retinol for the first time, but the encapsulated form in this mask is a gentler and less irritating than traditional treatments. I used it as a wash-off because I move a lot in my sleep and was worried about leaving it on for too long. It felt wonderfully cooling and soothing, and I’m pleasantly surprised with how plump and hydrated my skin felt after I took it off. I’m going to use it once a week and then maybe eventually up my usage to see if I see any improvements with texture and spots too!

A mini review of my current favourite masks: 💜 Drunk elephant - Baby Facial. This is a 25% AHA & 2% BHA mix mask that you use once per week. This mask resurfaces the skin and exfoliates pores to break down dead skin cells. This gives you the brightest, most smoothest skin ever. 💜 Herbivore botanicals - Blue Tansy. This mask contains BHA which is anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory, fruit enzymes which exfoliate and leave smooth skin and blue tansy oil which gives the mask its colour and helps to soothe irritation and reduce redness. . 💜 Tatcha - Violet C Radiance Mask. This contains Japanese Beautyberry, 2 types of Vitamin C and AHA's from 7 fruits. This mask brightens and softens the skin. I love that it softens fine lines too which I've noticed since using this. 💜 Tatcha - Luminous Dewy Skin Mask. Vitamin E and essential fatty acids, and a high concentration of botanical oils and extracts to nourish the skin. Leaves you with the most gorgeous glow afterwards with plump skin. I am so interested in the whole dewy line. 💜 Pixi - Detoxifeye Patches. Contains Hyaluronic Acid and Caffeine to smooth and depuff and helps reduce dark circles. I use these every second day and wow do they really reduce dark circles. 💜 La mer - Intensive Revitalizing Mask. This mask energises, plumps and protects the skin and neutralises free radicals. This just super hydrates my skin. 💜 Pixi - Glow Mud Mask. Contains Kaolin Clay to cleanse and purify, Sea Salt to detoxify and Ginseng to brighten and clarify. 💜 Glow recipe - Watermelon Glow Jelly Mask. Contains Watermelon to hydrate, smooth and neutralise free radicals, Hyaluronic Acid to super hydrate and Cantella to heal and soothe. Love this in the morning before make up for a glow.

One Step to Glowing Skin 💛
YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superberry Hydrate + Glow Dream Mask This is an overnight mask that hydrates and brightens your skin while you sleep. How amazing does that sound?! This mask contains an antioxidant-rich superberry and THD ascorbate (stable form of Vitamin C). The superberry is maqui (it is rich in antioxidants and helps with free radicals). This mask also includes: açai prickly pear goji berry sunflower moringa squalane hyaluronic acid My Thoughts: This “mask”, which is more like a really lovely night cream, claims to target dryness, dullness, uneven texture, firming, and combating free radicals. If you have really dry skin, this product would be amazing for you. I love using it after spending the day out in the sun. It’s so hydrating and refreshing. The texture is really creamy and not overly heavy either. It glides on your skin beautifully and you only need a small amount to cover your face. I also put some on my neck :) It doesn’t leave your skin feeling greasy at all. You should apply this as the last step in your skin care routine. When I use this I don’t use any other moisturizer on my face because it’s so hydrating. It has a really nice berry-like scent. It’s not over powering at all. This product hasn’t caused any breakouts and it hasn’t clogged my pores. When I use this my skin feels so hydrated and smooth when I wake up :) It gives such a nice glow! I love it and I’m definitely going to buy the full size once I run out. I recommend this 100%. The price is $63 CAD at Sephora for 59 mL, however you only need the tiniest amount so it would last a really long time. This might be the radiance boost your skin needs 💛

Do I Need a Skincare Fridge?
In short. No. BUT!! It’s a nice luxury. I was fortunate enough to receive a cute lil skincare fridge in PR around a year ago and yes I have used it the whole time. I like to store my gel products, mists, vitamin c, sheet masks, Rose quartz roller and eye creams in there. Especially for a hydrating mask like DRUNK ELEPHANT - F-Balm Electrolyte Waterfacial Mask or GLOW RECIPE - Watermelon + AHA Glow Sleeping Mask it just feels so soothing and kills inflammation when you have it cooled (same as an eye cream like DRUNK ELEPHANT - Shaba Complex Firming Eye Serum ). A cool mist like the GLOW RECIPE - Watermelon Glow Ultra-Fine Mist feels so soothing and ultra refreshing in the fridge too. One reason why I might say it’s close to a necessity, would be that it prolongs the shelf life and prevents early oxidation of pure vitamin c serums that contain l Ascorbic acid like OSEA - Brightening Serum or DRUNK ELEPHANT - C-Firma Vitamin C Day Serum . But at the end of the day, if you are properly storing your skincare out of the sun and heat, it will stay in its best form. The fridge is just a luxury if you’re a hardcore skincare fanatic or have chronic puffiness and need your products cooled ❤️
. The 24k gold and cucumber gel mask I’ve used before from samples I had and always wanted to purchase so I’m happy to have them back! The 24k Gold Mask is good for firming and lifting which is something I need to start focusing on! It also left my skin feeling revitalized and glowing, I’m hoping with more long term use I will see the lifting effects! The Cucumber Gel Mask is so hydrating and soothing! I used it yesterday and my face felt so nice after! I have dry skin which can sometimes get sensitized and this always helped hydrate and calm it. . . The pumpkin enzyme and moor mud masks are both new to me but both have me super intrigued! The Pumpkin Enzyme Mask is a resurfacing mask to reveal smoother, younger, more radiant looking skin. It smells like pumpkin pie and the texture is so interesting I can’t wait to use this one. The Irish Moor Mud Purifying Mask is meant to purify, minimize the look of pores, fine lines, and wrinkles. I’m all about anything for fine lines right now so I’m all about this one! Although it’s a purifying and detoxifying mask, it’s also hydrating due to the hijiki seaweed so I have high hopes for this one!
