MY 2020 TOP 5 ✨

madihomewood
I love this prompt from @cherie and was excited to start thinking about some of my favourites from 2020. It was a nice chance to really reflect on the past year, and celebrate my personal self care journey. So here are my favourites! Product - After lots of consideration I decided to choose one of my favourite products for each category of: face, lips and hair! So many great products this year it’s so hard to choose, but I would say for face: BIOSSANCE - Squalane + Marine Algae Eye Cream
was my all time favourite discovery, so effective for my specific concerns (sun damage/milia)! The SUMMER FRIDAYS - Lip Butter Balm
was my favourite lip product - I was addicted to the smell + really kept my lips hydrated. Plus for the price, you know I wasn’t gunna misplace this bad boy. And lastly, I would almost consider it a full on addiction how much I loved the OLAPLEX - No. 7 Bonding Oil
, seriously this stuff changed my life! Trend - Sustainable packaging, and gorgeous reusable jars were one of my favourite trends. I love this shift towards mindfulness, especially because I often feel like it’s a domino effect where it can start with mindfulness to the environment, than mindfulness of people and surroundings and I believe this is a very important/healthy shift for consumers. My best look - Dark lips, always. Favourite Creators - I couldn’t possibly choose just one, there are so many creators here that are amazing, unique, lovely, smart, creative and genuine - I’m so grateful for this platform! But a few accounts I think you should definitely check out - @heynoonoo for some of the most beautiful makeup looks I’ve ever seen, just absolute works of art! @D.Bennett this gorgeous human has an amazing page. All encompassing, wonderfully informative and super relatable. @annkrisha Ann’s page is awesome, from Halloween looks to gift guides ... she’s ON it. Not to mention her results posts are super helpful and informative. @Mallory - I love her content, her posts are very relatable and she is just genuinely such a good person! Something I learned - SPF if so important! APPLY - than REAPPLY even in the winter. I really like THANK YOU FARMER - Sun Project Water Sun Cream
Hope you enjoyed my top 5 ✨💛

Favorite All Around Moisturizer 💦
The product that started it all - 𝔸𝕕𝕒𝕡𝕥𝕠𝕘𝕖𝕟 𝔻𝕖𝕖𝕡 𝕄𝕠𝕚𝕤𝕥𝕦𝕣𝕖 ℂ𝕣𝕖𝕒𝕞 was the first product that I tried & fell in love with from Youth to the People 💚🌱 Formulated with jojoba, squalane & shea butter, as well as peptides & plant extracts, this moisturizer focuses on providing hydration & nourishment for dry, irritated, & sensitive skin. It has a creamy, rich texture, but is lightweight on the skin & seeps into the skin with little effort, and doesn’t clog your pores. I typically prefer gel textured moisturizers for the most part, but I just love how light this moisturizer is and how it doesn’t sit on the skin or leave a greasy film. It is free of fragrance with no added scent; just smells natural & earthy due to the ingredients incorporated in the formula, but certainly nothing you’d notice while applying. You get a generous 2 oz of product in the full size recyclable jar, and not a lot of product is needed, so it will last you quite awhile. I’ve used this moisturizer in my daytime and nighttime routine, and it’s fantastic either way! 𝒯𝒾𝓅 - If you have a skincare fridge, this is definitely a moisturizer worth storing inside as it feels even more soothing when applying chilled. And if you use this as a nighttime moisturizer, I also recommend adding 2-3 drops of the Superberry Hydrate + Glow Oil for an extra boost of hydration & beautiful natural glow finish! 🌟 Have you tried this moisturizer before? Do you love it too? 💚 YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream with Ashwagandha + Reishi

My January 2021 empties
Looks like I emptied many of the cleansing products. Star of the month goes to: Bronze - BIOSSANCE - Squalane + Marine Algae Eye Cream likely to repurchase when finished other eye cream inventories. This is somewhat rich eye cream and glide on easily. Silver - FARMACY - Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm got silver just because it has attracted everyone’s attention. I still have one big jar to go then will try something else after. Gold - DHC - DHC Lip Cream this is something I can’t live without and will never trade for anything else. Will definitely keep repurchasing!

SUPER KNOTTED HAIR FROM BIG SCARVES?❄️😰
I don’t know about you, but I’ve always loved the oversized scarf trend. We’re getting into the coldest parts of Canadian Winter, so these trendy accessories not only leave you looking chic but can also keep you mighty warm. By biggest issue with this though is the crazy knots I get in the back of my hair when I wear these scarves. It’s actually insane, to the point where I’ve cut out knots that I thought were going to be impossible to brush out. Also have lost so much hair into my brush trying to comb through it... UNTIL NOW. This dae - Deep Conditioning Treatment has saved my hair so much. Whenever my hair is unbelievably knotty I just put 2-3 pumps of this and leave it for 10 minutes and my brush runs through my hair effortlessly. It’s a plush thick cream, that smells heavenly very fruity and lightly nutty. It’s formulated with vegan, non-synthetic ingredients and delivers an extra surge of moisture and detangling to dry hair. I purchased the 10oz bottle for $37 CAD which I think is very reasonable especially since I really only use this 1 or 2 times and week. I really want to try the dae - Prickly Pear Hair Oilnext, it’s got great reviews and is a little more affordable than OLAPLEX - No. 7 Bonding Oil which I’m currently using and love - side note... does anyone else feel like the Olaplex oil smells like cotton candy ?! I just started to notice that now that I’m 2/3’s through the bottle haha. Anyways, if you struggle with really bad hair knots from oversized scarves I’d recommend giving this product a try. Not to mention you’ll be adding a beautiful bottle to your beauty Arsenal 😍

Shelfie vs Reality 🪞🤳🤔
Happy Presidents Day!! I was playing around trying to take my first ever shelfie and was struck by two things: 1) styling a shelfie is HARD!!! I am so impressed with the gorgeous, inspirational pictures you all take where a boring medicine cabinet seemingly effortlessly highlights all your best products. I think I have a ways to go. 2) this is soooooo not what my medicine cabinet looks like every day!! I took a step back once the cabinet was full of all my beautiful skincare and just laughed at how far it is from normal. Instead, all my goodies are hidden away in a cabinet. So I restored my shelves to their usual glory to avoid my husbands confusion about where on earth his toothbrush went and thought I’d share our reality. ➡️ swipe to see what the cabinet really looks like around here 🤪 Are there any products in here you want me to review? Let me know!

Is the Biossance Eye Duo Worth It?
I really struggle with my under eyes. The shape of my eyes makes them slightly wrinkled and I also have dark circles and they can get pretty puffy if I cry or don’t get enough sleep. They are also EXTREMELY sensitive. Concealer can make them sting and flake, and anything that touches them (facial moisturizer, serum, eye cream, etc.) can make them burn. Because of this it is hard to find an eye cream that doesn’t cause issues and I can’t always skip this step in my routine because I do wear concealer under my eyes and if I don’t take care of them they start to flake and it just looks awful. I found this Biossance trial size eye duo and had to test it out! I do typically think of eye cream as an expensive, glorified moisturizer unless it has active ingredients, but with my sensitivities I am willing to try them out to see if they help my issues. BIOSSANCE - Squalane + Marine Algae Eye Cream Of the two, this one is my favorite. Yes, it is essentially just a moisturizer, but I think that is what under eye skin has been needing because my facial moisturizer wasn’t cutting it. This one doesn’t cause any irritation and, once it sinks in, is good under concealer. BIOSSANCE - BIOSSANCE Squalane + Peptide Eye Gel This eye gel works well for puffiness, but I took one star off because on my sensitive days it can sting my skin a little and it also isn’t quite as hydrating as the other Biossance eye cream. It is a gel, so if hydration isn’t your main concern this would probably be great for you! I really do love both of these eye creams and highly recommend getting the trial duo if possible, but the full size products are so expensive that I just can’t justify repurchasing them for myself. If these are in your budget and your only real concerns are dryness and puffiness, then please get this! But if you are looking for a product that will make a long term difference in preventing/treating wrinkles, darkness, etc. you should try an eye cream that contains retinol. These are my suggestions for retinol eye creams listed from least to most expensive: 1️⃣ THE inkey LIST - Retinol Eye Cream 2️⃣ GLOW RECIPE - Avocado Melt Retinol Eye Sleeping Mask 3️⃣ FIRST AID BEAUTY - FAB Skin Lab Retinol Eye Cream with Triple Hyaluronic Acid If you have tried these products or have any recommendations please let me know in the comments!

My Current AM Routine
I feel like my routine is always changing due to purchasing new products to try and review, however here is my current AM routine. HOLI FROG - Tashmoo Water Lily Nourishing Milky Wash (fragrence free) I've only just recently started using this, but I will say I like this one. I find it similar to LA ROCHE-POSAY - Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Face Cleanser Holifrog is a little more hydrating since it feels like a lotion than a cleanser. The La Roche cleanser is a good dupe if you need something a little cheaper and at the convince stores. If you have dry skin I highly recommend Holifrog, but if you have normal to oily skin and are just experiencing some sensitivity (like your skin barrier) then I would go with La Roche. COSRX - Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Power Essence (fragrence free) I really enjoy this product because I feel like I am getting a good size value for the price. It also doesn't feel any different than any other HA essence or serum that I've tried (one being a very expensive one). Krave - Great Barrier Relief (fragrence free) This guy is definitely my holy Grail and I have reviewed it before. I use it daily due to my dry skin, but if you have normal to oily skin I definitely recommend having this on hand especially if you like to try new products and if it possibly irritates you or if you over do actives. PETER THOMAS ROTH - Potent-C Vitamin C Power Serum (fragrence free) I've also done a review already on this one. It is very potent and has a stable form of vit C, however unless you are trying to severely even out skin tone or remove dark spots, I would not spend the money. It is definitely pricey (almost $100). If you really need the potency of this product, then go ahead. Otherwise if you are just looking to fix minor issues/use it to go along with your spf, I'd go with a cheaper (still stable) product likeTHE inkey LIST - Vitamin C Serum 30ml(I have not personally tried this inkey list product, but have heard good things about it's ingredients as well as being a reasonable price) FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Cream (fragrence free) I am really enjoying this new product. It is a step up fromCeraVe - CeraVe Moisturising Cream which I also love for the simplicity and price value, but this one has even more soothing ingredients such as colloidal oatmeal. I like to use this in the morning because it doesn't make my face overly shiny before I head out the door and it also goes well under make up (with a primer of course) #Deoproce - Hyaluronic Cooling Sun Gel spf 50[products]#[FourStars] (NOT fragrence free) I just recently bought this sunscreen and it is my first Korean spf. I love how easily it goes on and it gives me enough glow without looking greasy. My complaint would be that it's not fragrence free, but I'm happy it got me started. Next I'll likely try Krave - The Beet ShieldorTHANK YOU FARMER - Sun Project Water Sun Cream

Daytime Routine
Recently I’ve gone through a lot of products and emptied a couple favourites, so I’ve changed up some products in my routine and thought I would do an updated day time routine. My first step is always cleansing, I haven’t gone through my comfort zone - comfort zone Essential Cleansing Milk but I’m pretty close to done, over half way, but it should last me at least another month. Next I spray my face with the YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Adaptogen Soothe + Hydrate Activated Mist with Reishi + Ashwagandha and immediately put on the Dr Dennis Gross - Stress Rescue Super Serum with Niacinamide (📍). I’ve only been using this Youth to the People spay for a month, but I’ve already seen it make a huge difference in my glowiness and hydration through the day. The serum has also improved my skin a lot as my skin is sensitive to vitamin c, this has the brightening (niacinamide) and the antioxidant protection (goji fruit) that a vitamin c serum would have, without the irritation. Next I put on my The Ordinary - Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG (📍) eye cream/serum, this helps to de puff my under eyes in the morning. My last three steps are to moisturizer with the CAUDALIE - Vinoperfect Instant Brightening Moisturizer (📍), apply my current SPF which is the THANK YOU FARMER - Sun Project Water Sun Cream and moisturizer my lips with the Glossier. - Balm Dotcom . I also want to start a new system in my posts, products with a 📍behind it on my posts, I received for free, as I’m trying to be more conscious of that. I’ve gone back on past posts and utilized this system. Thanks for reading! 📍= product was sent to me for free

YTTP Superfood Air-Whip Moisture Cream Review
[PRODUCT REVIEW] Moisturizer YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superfood Air-Whip Moisture Cream Vegan Cruelty free Gluten free What it is: A lightweight gel-cream with Kale extracts (phytonutrients, vitamin C/E/K), green tea extracts (antioxidants) and hyaluronic acid. It claims to help fight free radicals and also replenish and support healthy skin barrier. $48/60mL (2 oz). Texture: Lightweight gel cream. Not greasy. Absorbs fast. Smells light and refreshing. My experience: It was one of my favorite moisturizers back when my skin was more oily and I didn’t have to deal with NYC winter nor staying inside with heat blowing on my face 24/7. That being said, I still like it a lot. I love the texture and the scent. It helps with my redness too. I think it’ll be a great summer moisturizer for me (mid 20s, combination textbook skin). But right now, it doesn’t lock in as much moisture as I need it to.

YTTP Superfood Antioxidant Cleanser
YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superfood Antioxidant Cleanser This stuff is so great! I’ve been breaking out lately and my regular oil cleansers just didn’t cut it. I think my skin might just be purging because it wasn’t used to so much oil but who knows. But this definitely helped get rid of a lot of those breakouts. This is also so gentle it didn’t strip my skin which honestly shocked me because a lot of “gentle” cleansers absolutely kill my skin. But this is super! I read from someone’s review on here that this is an oil based cleanser according to the YTTP website but I couldn’t find out if that was true or not 🤷🏻‍♀️

Current morning & night routine ☀️🌙
Hey beauties! I wanted to share my current skin routine for morning & night, since I've updated it with some new products that I'm enjoying and it's been working for me. Hope it works for you too! :) ☀️Morning: 1. I typically don't wash my face since all I did was sleep and I do this routine pretty soon after I wake up. So the first step is really to use almost a whole pump of OLE HENRIKSEN - Banana Bright Vitamin C Serum on my whole face 2. Then I use about a dime sized amount of myKiehl's - Ultra Facial Cream 3. Glossier. - Balm Dotcom goes on my lips - I prefer either fig, birthday, berry or coconut 4. Volia! That's easy :) 🌙Evening: 1. Cleanse my face in the shower using a half pump of YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superfood Antioxidant Cleanser 2. After my shower, I sometimes use my facial roller (it's SEPHORA COLLECTION - Rose Quartz Facial Rollerand Idk what to rate it as since it's the only one I have) 3. Next is the serum - depending on what's the issue; if it's acne:Glossier. - Solution Exfoliating Skin Perfector, redness and/or irritation: Glossier. - Super Pure Niacinamide + Zinc Serum, or just feels ok / needs a little something to smooth out or be more hydrated: TATCHA - The Dewy Serum Resurfacing and Plumping Treatment 4. If I want to use an eye cream, I go with the Ole Henriksen banana bright eye creme from this set: OLE HENRIKSEN - Let's Get Luminous Brightening Essentials Set it's a half size one and the set is only $40 5. Glossier. - Balm Dotcom again because it's hydrating enough for me (yes my lips do get dry since they're a little chapped when I wake up, but I don't think I necessarily need a lip mask) 6. Of course, the last step is a facial spray, and it's always my Avène - Thermal Spring Water Spraybc I can't live without it. In case you're curious, the total price for my routine is $363!! (that includes all the products I mentioned) 🤯

Empties 🥂

💕KOSÉ Softymo (
Empties 🥂 💕KOSÉ Softymo ($9) is the best value cleansing oil on Amazon. It’s a bit less thick and hydrating than the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil, but it’s a third of the price and very effective. Last me for months. 💕naturelabtokyo Perfect Smooth Shampoo ($28) is a delight. Smelled like yuzu lemon and left my hair feeling clean and weightless. That being said, I’m currently using a shampoo from their Perfect Volume line which is even more conditioning, which I like more. 💕Laneige Water Bank Hydrating Gel ($35) - Holy grail moisturizer. Lightweight yet with enough creaminess to lock in moisture longer than competitors. Smells like bedtime.

Double Cleanse
Double Cleanse
I’ve said it once + I’ll say it again; I cannot stress the importance of practicing a PM double cleanse within your skin regimen. Imagine shampooing your hair without conditioning or cleansing hard floors, without vacuuming first. The FIRST cleanse is meant to remove sunscreen, makeup, debris, bacteria, + environmental toxins. The SECOND cleanse is meant to cleanse your OWN skin. I’ve been using the cleansing duo by thenimetyou on non-exfoliation nights. The cleansing balm feels like pure butter, consisting of fatty acids from sea buckthorn oil, antioxidants from vitamin e, + skin brightening persimmon extract, that aids in sebum regulation. I massage this into my entire face + drench a micro-fiber towel with water. I then PRESS it into my face for 10 seconds to pull out any debri on the surface of my skin. While keeping my skin damp, I complete the second cleanse with the Tea Cleansing Gel. It smells amazing containing (my favorite) healing centella asiatica, skin-toning licorice root, rice ferment filtrate for enzymatic exfoliation + amino acid nourishment. The second cleanse allows for purification + preparation for your PM product absorption. #cheriecreator Then I met you - The Cleansing Duo

YTTP - is it worth it?
YTTP - is it worth it?
YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - The Youth Minis Kit Recently after a trip to Sephora, I purchased the YTTP - The Youth Minis Kit The kit itself cost $75 but with my Sephora membership card I was able to get 20% of during a sale. To start - the Kale and green tea spinach cleanser The packaging is adorable and very simple, something i love with my skincare products. the smell was great and came in the perfect starter size. The only issue that i have is i saw no difference after using it for a month. I was expecting my skin to feel clean and clear but instead I felt dry and dull. Secondly - The Maqui and Acai prickly pear Goji hydrate and glow oil. Personally, I dont use skin or face oils as they seem to give me breakouts and a shiny/oily look under makeup. I felt that this oil although it did not make my face oily or shiny, did create a weird texture and dried unevenly. This i believe is a hit or miss product and i recommend buying it separate from the kit as for other skin types it might work great. Air whip moisture cream This was the only product in the whole kit that i fell in absolute love with. It was the perfect texture and made my skin feel soft and bouncy. The only downside is the size of the product - I will definitely be buying this seperate. Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream This cream had an almost grainy texture - like it was out of date. Apart from the texture, the product itself did not do anything for my skin and felt like an overload when used with the Air whip moisture cream. The smell was hardly present and left my skin with discolouration. Superberry Hydrate and glow dream mask I could ditch every other product in this kit and only use this one and the air whip moisture cream. This mask had the most amazing smell, almost like a sweet banana or berry smoothie. The texture was amazing and after applying at night, my skin would feel, look and smell amazing the next morning. absolutely recommend buying separate. OVERALL: overall, i give the YTTP - the youth minis kit a 2 (maybe 2.5) stars. I recommend buying the Mask and airwhip cream seperate and pairing them with your own cleansers. This is a very expensive kit that i feel is very overhyped and i would personally price around the $40 instead. - aleya

The Youth Minis Kit
YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE-The Youth Minis Kit
INGREDIENT SPOTLIGHT: “Adaptogens” ft YTTP 🍄
INGREDIENT SPOTLIGHT: “Adaptogens” ft YTTP 🍄
When I accidentally stumbled into Youth To The People’s location on Traction Ave in the LA Arts District last year, I thought I had discovered an artist’s gallery. I didn’t think too much of the brand again until I joined the Cherie community. Because YTTP is basically homegrown in the backyard of my favorite LA neighborhood, I WANTED to love this brand. I wanted to love it when it said it was sustainable and vegan. I loved it more when it donated its proceeds during Covid-19’s early stages and still managed to dish out funds for LGBTQ+ organizations last month. Ethically, I love what YTTP is trying to stand for. After doing some research and trying a couple of their products, however, YTTP is starting to feel more like the “Moon Juice” of skincare. Expensive. Cult-y. Unsubstantiated. Okay but first, what are adaptogens? If you wondered this and struggled to find an answer as I did, you are not alone. As it turns out, “adaptogens” have been adopted by the wellness world as herb/supplements used in alternative medicine to regulate stress and hormones (Maca, Ashwagandha and Reishi to name a few). Dietary supplementation with Ashwagandha have shown to reduce stress. Reishi is a mushroom used in Indian and Chinese medicine as dietary anti-oxidants. While studies may support these adoptogens’ dietary benefits, very little data supports its use in skincare. I didn’t get to try the Kale cleanser but if you want a salad to soak into your face, it’s definitely not going to be in the 15 second cleansing step. I paid $26 for the following sampler bundle: YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Adaptogen Soothe + Hydrate Activated Mist with Reishi + Ashwagandha I didn’t know what to expect from a mist that could be used up in a matter of days, but aside from the fine mist nozzle that I actually enjoyed, I found the ingredients to be overwhelmingly unimpressive. The peptides and Reishi mushroom extract are there. But water is the first ingredient and that’s essentially what I paid for. No changes to my skin at all. The feel didn’t bother me but the product was forgettable. YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream with Ashwagandha + Reishi I actually thoroughly enjoyed the feel of this moisturizer upon application! It feels occlusive enough for a summer moisturizer and is the perfect balance of heaviness. Other than the Ashwagandha + Reishi extracts, the product is formulated with allotoin (soothing), peptides and squalene. The formulation is well thought out but didn’t give me superior results. $58 for 2oz just isn’t justified- it would drain my pocket too quickly! Is YTTP really for its people? While I am impressed by YTTP’s mission, the brand doesn’t really consider the inaccessibility of their price points in the name of giving youth “to the people”. If skincare really is for all skin colors and types, it would consider the socioeconomic disparities that plague our communities. Cheers 🥂
