Do you have dandruff or dry scalp ⁉️

One common complaint I hear from my clients about their scalp is that they have dandruff. I’ve seen a lot of scalps and I rarely see dandruff, most often what my clients think is dandruff is actually just a dry scalp. I see it most often in the fall and winter when skin is driest but it can also be caused by over washing, using the wrong products, or using anti-dandruff products when you don’t actually need them. What is the difference between dry scalp and dandruff? Dandruff usually oily and the flaking looks scalier. Dry scalp will have smaller, non oily flakes. In the both cases the scalp might be a little red and feel itchy. It is important to know the difference so that you use the right products. Anti- dandruff products are more drying and therefore you don’t want to use it on a dry scalp because it can actually make the dryness worse. What do you use if you have dry scalp? Something moisturizing! If you have dry skin on your face, you’re going to moisturize and that’s going to be the same with your scalp. My favorite shampoo for dry scalp is Oway - Moisturizing Hair Bath . I love it because it uses ingredients like Macadamia oil, Murumuru butter, and organic honey to keep the scalp and hair moisturized. It is also a clean beauty product and is paraben free so it won’t further irritate an already angry scalp. Besides getting that scalp back to normal it’s also going to make your hair feel amazing!

How I heal my scalp each season 💕
How I heal my scalp each season 💕
I have a super sensitive scalp—if I use the wrong product, sweat too much during a workout, or even just SLEEP ON MY HEAD WRONG....I get dandruff. It started a couple of years ago and this is my routine that has worked to keep my itchy, flaky scalp normalized! SCALP SHAMPOO. Yes. About twice a month, I have a shampoo I only use on my scalp. It’s a tea tree formula shampoo which can be very drying so I only use it on my scalp, not the rest of my hair. Don’t come for me LOL. My favorite is from Paul Mitchell (PAUL MITCHELL - Tea Tree Special Shampoo ) and I love it so much!! It even helps clear up acne on my hairline. I always get the jumbo sizes when they’re half off (so 30+ ounces for $15!!!) I highly recommend trying it out! I also use the Briogeo silicone scalp scrubber to really massage it into my scalp. TREATMENT. Every other wash, I use the Briogeo scalp treatment oil Briogeo - Scalp Revival Charcoal + Tea Tree Scalp Treatment Serum on my sensitive scalp areas. It doesn’t contain a lot of tea tree oil, so it doesn’t dry out my scalp. It actually soothes it a lot. I use the scalp scrubber with this also to disperse it better around my head. It’s a bit pricey, but I think it’s totally worth it if you have an itchy scalp. BONUS: TOOL. As mentioned above, I feel like the Briogeo silicone scalp massager Briogeo - Scalp Revival Stimulating Therapy Massager has made a huge difference in my scalp health! Not only does it help massage product around, it helps stimulate hair growth—yes, I’ve noticed my hair has been growing SO fast (like 7 inches in 6 months 😱) and I love it. I also love that it’s silicone so it doesn’t scratch or have any chance of hurting my scalp. I got mine at Anthropologie for $5 but I think it retails for $20. GET ONE! It doesn’t have to be Briogeo’s, but...get one. What are your scalp favorites?! #CheriePartner

are you wondering how do I maintain my colored hair? here is the secret tube I have been using to prevent my shade from shifting. Introducing you @oVertonecolor Toning Conditioners. It helps to neutralize unwanted undertones with gentle pigments. It is infused with nourishing moisturizing plant-based ingredients such as coconut oil and shea butter which strengthen hair and repair damage while adding color. I am currently using the pink toning conditioner which helps to cancel the green and teal tones. I also use oVertone Pastel Purple Coloring Conditioner to add back purple pigment to my toner hair. They are all free from ammonia, harsh chemicals, sulfates, parabens, etc. They are vegan & cruelty-free. Now I can skip a trip to the salon, tone at home, and give my hair new balanced hydrated color.

Incredibly Silky Soft Hair (I’m obsessed!)
Incredibly Silky Soft Hair (I’m obsessed!)
I love leave-in hair products. They’re easy to use - you just spray it in your hair, go about your day and forget all about it. I’m actually switching up between 3 different types of leave in treatments at the moment! This leave in conditioner by Schwarzkopf is absolutely wonderful. It was super affordable and leaves your hair feeling super soft to the touch with a lovely shine (and of course smells great). This is extremely useful for days where you don’t have enough time to condition your hair but still need something to tame your hair. The spray application is great because it’s so easy to apply. I apply this generously to the ends of my hair when I’m straight out of the shower and go in with a wide tooth comb just to ensure that it’s evenly distributed through my hair. You can either just blow dry as normal or let it air dry. It’s also amazing for detangling. Just spritz and them comb through the ends. One thing i’ve noticed is that you do need to be relatively generous with this product if you have thicker hair like me! This product is particularly great for people with dry damaged hair. My ends feel extremely healthy and shiny. The product itself is relatively thin in consistency too so it’s perfect for everyday use. I find that some leave in conditioners can feel a bit heavy and weigh on your hair – this one is lightweight and is perfect for people who want a bit more volume on the head. I’m always looking for new leave in products - what’s your favourite? I think out of all the ones I’ve tried so far, my favourite is still by far the John Freida Frizz Ease Serum (I’ve done a review on this in one of my other posts!)

This is the worst hair product I own right now
This is the worst hair product I own right now
Preface: I own a LOT of hair care products. I am a thick, dry haired curly girl with medium-length hair now that has been chemically treated. I’m dealing with frizz, damage, and dryness all while trying to have a calm scalp. It’s a LOT. When I say this is the worst hair product I own, that’s not at all an exaggeration. This is the purifying scalp scrub Christophe Robin - Cleansing Purifying Scrub With Sea Salt from Christophe Robin. I am pretty sure I got this in an Allure Beauty Box a looong time ago. I’m talking 2018??? Anyway. The purpose of this product is a pre-shampoo treatment to scrub into your scalp to remove built up dirt, oil, and hair product so your scalp can breathe and better produce hair growth. It smells pretty sweet, kinda salty, and it has a clumpy consistency (because it’s, you know, a salt scrub). I went into using this thinking it would be great but it’s so thick that I have a hard time using it without parting my hair 40 different ways so I can actually reach my scalp through my hair. What I wasn’t expecting was to have leftover salt chunks in my hair...that would take over 10 minutes to wash out of my hair!!! Not even to mention it lathers up SO MUCH that is basically strips all oils from your scalp, making it start to flake. This scrub is awful if you have thick hair. If you have thin hair you would probably like this, but I just cannot deal with it. I have used so many other scrub that I don’t have issues with that I just absolutely cannot deal with it. Due to the issues I experienced, as well as this mini size costing $19, I have to rate it 2/5. Would not recommend unless you have thin hair that is oily. #CheriePartner

Build up saver! 🧖🏽‍♀️
Build up saver! 🧖🏽‍♀️
This is not a necessary item but it has changed my shower game! As mentioned before I only wash my hair once a week so through out the week I’m essentially just refreshing my curls by adding more product to it. So a couple of months ago I really started to struggle with build up on my scalp. So one day while scrolling through the Sephora app looking at things I don’t need I came across the Briogeo - Scalp Revival Stimulating Therapy Massager After about 3 uses I started to see a difference on my scalp and the build up. I don’t know how I lived without it before.

Does it actually work on my scalp? My answer is...
Does it actually work on my scalp? My answer is...
I struggled with an extremely dry scalp for a period of time. My hair density is between fine and medium, and nothing seemed to work and I felt liked I tried everything to help stop the embarrassing dandruff flakes. The last time I saw my hair dresser she recommended this product that they just started carrying at the salon. ORIBE - Serene Scalp Soothing Leave-on Treatment I absolutely fell in LOVE the first time I tried it!!! Best solution for dry scalp & medium density hair! After using I noticed instant relief and changes immediately! It is a bit pricey but a little goes a long way and its totally worth it. Great to use on both damp and dry hair. Immediate relief for sore, itchy scalp. My scalp has been a real mess going on for 6 months. Before I purchased this that I tried small dabs of oil or other moisturizers to try and keep my scalp from being scratchy and flaky but they didn’t quite do the trick, and left my scalp pretty oily. This product has worked OK. It works just fine on my scalp. My scalp has never felt so instant relief and calming. It's a tiny little tube, but the applicator keeps you from overdoing it and it really works. It took me a couple of months to use it all. Really did soothe my scalp and I noticed the difference when I stopped using it. I usually put it on dry hair between shampoos and after it dried my hair did not look oily or dirty. Sometimes I put this on in small amounts directly at those areas every other day or so it seems to make a difference. A little goes a long way. I like the smell and the relief is substantial if you use it once or twice a day. This product is mostly salicylic acid, and while you can buy cheaper products, whatever the combination of ingredients in the Serene Scalp Treatment, it has worked well for me. I'm definitely sticking with this product and look, forward to trying the shampoo and conditioner in this line. Blessed relief!
