Hi! I’m Lauren from Boston! I am always looking for a new find to add to my skin care routine. #loveafacemask
Not what I expected.
I LOVE moisturizer. When I say I love it, I mean I looooooove it. As I’ve said in the past I have tried many different moisturizers, mainly from LUSH or Keihl’s but I got a sample of this one when I bought some stuff from glossier. The sample of Glossier. - Priming Moisturizer Rich Luxurious Face Cream was this little packet and lasted me about 3 days so I guessed that I got a good enough opportunity to try it. When I used the sample, putting this on felt like heaven to my skin. It was creamy and wonderful and felt like my skin was getting this luxe treatment. So I bought it... for $35 which isn’t awful but it’s not a great price point either. I was so excited to try it because I liked the sample a lot. There must be something different about a sample because I didn’t love the full size as much as I expected. The good: - It is a rich cream so I don’t feel the need to use a lot to cover my face. Therefore, I think it will last me a while. Bang for your buck, I suppose. - It smells v good. Very floral if you’re into that sort of stuff (I guess this can also be a negative) - If you’re a judge a product by its packaging kind of gal (guilty 🙋♀️) the packaging is pretty. The bad: - If you have very dry skin, this will not work for you because it doesn’t feel like it penetrates into my skin. - If you have sensitive skin then, this product is probably not for you since it’s so highly scented - If you’re looking for extra benefits (brightening, calming, literally anything other than hydrating) this gives you none of that. No double duty here. Overall ⭐️⭐️⭐️ because I am underwhelmed with this moisturizers benefits. I will not be repurchasing due to no overall net add to my skincare routine.

Sometimes you have to use what you got..
So last week I stayed at my boyfriend’s place and for some reason, unknown to myself, I forgot my regular face wash. So all I had was his face wash (you can tell he loves skin care as much as I do... 😝). Overall, it wasn’t the worst thing I’ve used since the start of my skin care journey but also not the best. I am all for drugstore buys but I not all products are created equal. Clean&Clear - Morning Burst Oil-Free Gentle Daily Face Wash is really heavily scented, which isn’t a problem for my skin but I see it being a issue for some more sensitive skin. It smells nice, like oranges 🍊 and it has vitamin c exploding beads. Cudos to my boyfriend for unwittingly buying a product that has vitamin c. This cleanser is gently foaming but I don’t feel like it adds anything to my skin and actually strips my skin of everything. So my skin does feel really “clean” but I’m not sure that’s the feeling I want. Overall, it worked in a bind but I wouldn’t recommend this to buy. Plus this week, I have a breakout on my chin which might be from this cleanser or from my hormones 🤷🏻♀️.

This is why you should by trial size first!
So I do this thing in order to try a bunch of different products and find the ones I love. I buy TRIAL SIZE FIRST! I can spend sooooo much money on skincare when I know I shouldn’t so I started trying the mini of products which financially speaking isn’t maybe the most “bang for your buck” but at least I spend $12 on something and not $38 before I find out I don’t really like it. Regardless, I buy trial size to determine if something is worth the splurge or not and then I am exposed to a bunch of new options to upgrade my skincare. I have wanted to try the OLEHENRIKSEN brand for a while and so when I saw the balance mini kit on sale I jumped on it. (Like literally jumped in the air when I received the package). So here is my honest opinion of these 4 products: OLE HENRIKSEN - Pore-Balance Facial Sauna Scrub let’s start on a high note. LOVED this scrub. Everything in this collection has menthol-y feel which is intensified if you do this in the shower which is usually how I do scrubs. (My routine is to exfoliate with a scrub whenever I wash my hair - every other day or so). My pores have never felt soooooo clear. It really felt like a sauna for my skin. Plus, my boyfriend (who I force to do skincare) said he felt like he was breaking out by his nose so I put this scrub on him and the pimple disappeared! 🥳 OLE HENRIKSEN - Balancing Force Oil Control Toner on to the toner. Gotta say, I didn’t love it. It makes my skin feel dry and tight and it burns a little bit. I don’t have particularly sensitive skin so I can imagine that it’s all the worse for those who do. I will say that my forehead and nose can get oily in the summer and that was taken care of with this toner. But overall, would not recommend. OLE HENRIKSEN - Counter Balance Oil Control Hydrator NOPE! Highly disliked this. One could even say hated. Does not provide moisture and it felt like it wasn’t adding anything to my skin just taking away. My face is not that oily so I think it’s just not the right moisturizer for me. If you know anything about me, it’s that I love moisturizer. OLE HENRIKSEN - Cold Plunge Pore Mask I liked but I didn’t love this mask. This was the product that I bought this set for and while I do like it, I’m not sure I would give it the same rave reviews that others have given. It applies very smoothly and has a cooling sensation when you are wearing it. The color is really pretty (see picture!) but that’s not a reason to buy a mask. Also: this set is supposed to shrink pores and I don’t really find that it did that for me but maybe it just takes a little more time. Overall, this was super surprising to me. I didn’t think I would love the scrub as much as I did and dislike the other things as much as I did. I will definitely be buying the full size of the scrub but jury’s still out on the mask.

The 👏🏼LITERAL👏🏼 HOLY 👏🏼GRAIL👏🏼
Let me tell you about this product from @LUSH, LUSH - Ultrabland . This is the HOLY GRAIL of oil based cleansers. I cannot speak highly enough. It’s actually somewhat of a controversial recommendation that I have given people because on some skin types it causes breakouts the first week or two that you use it. Do not be alarmed if this happens because I think the skin is getting used to having a thicker cleanser that is oil based. That being said, if you stick it out for the first two weeks then you will not be disappointed. Ultrabland is a thick oily cream that you smooth onto dry skin and rub in for 2-3 minutes before washing it off with a hot (and I mean HOT 🥵) wet facecloth. Don’t tell anyone but I steal the towels from my gym for this purpose. I know it sounds gross but I wash them very thoroughly. Anyway, I just wipe it off with my hot facecloth and you can see just how much your makeup remover left behind or if you didn’t wear makeup, the residue from the day, comes off your skin. The feeling after wiping it off is soft and moisturized skin. I can understand how it may be too thick and leave a residue for some people but I assure you if you wash it off with a hot facecloth it feels soooooooo good. It can be moisturizing enough to not need a night cream but sometimes I will follow up with serum and moisturizer (totally a personal choice and depends greatly on how much time I have or how extra I want to be). The only (and I mean only) downside to this cleanser for me is the time it takes. It’s not an easy low maintenance addition to your routine with all the rubbing, waiting for the water to get hot and wiping but it’s totally worth it. Oh and last thing to note is that I never use this in the morning mainly because I think it leaves too much moisture on my face and makes my skin feel thick. This being said, it’s great before bed year round but especially in the winter. I urge anyone and everyone to try this. It comes in two sizes and isn’t crazy expensive. Plus, I’ve found that most LUSH products last me a good six months before I have to buy again. NOTE: this review is from a dedicated LUSHie yet I’m not biased because, like with any brand, there are things I didn’t like that I’ve tried BUT, I’ve been using Ultrabland for 5+ years now and am obsessed with it.
A good mask and NOT crazy $$$
I really liked this mask. I have used it twice now and the both times I’ve truly enjoyed the experience. It applies soooooo smoothly and it has little “super volcanic” clusters. I don’t really see a lot of those although they could be all the way at the bottom (which wouldn’t be great if they were). What I will say is that the next morning my skin was great the first time and the second time I had two small new breakouts. It does dawn on me that it could be part of a purge of my skin after clay and volcanic clusters (I’m assuming they are similar to charcoal) pull everything out. Either way, I think this mask worked pretty well at clearing my skin and eventually diminishing my breakouts. I bought this mask for the stated benefit for shrinking my pores. Nothing on that front yet. Overall would recommend. I like the consistency and the feeling of my skin (after moisturizer since it’s mildly drying... or I’m just very dehydrated 😅). I’m probably going to buy innisfree - Super Volcanic Clusters Pore Clearing Clay Mask again but maybe I’ll try something new first.

Dewey glowy sunscreen ☀️
I was never a sunscreen wearer. I know, it’s terrible. I never wore sunscreen and then I decided enough was enough. I put in some research and decided to try glossier (mainly because I was already buying other things). To say I’m a sunscreen convert is an understatement. I put this on even when I’m not planning on going outside because #quarantine. Things I love: it’s very light. I put it on top of my moisturizer but it doesn’t feel like there’s anything extra on my face. I hate the feeling of thick products in the morning. Secondly, it makes my skin look so glowy. During this time when I’m not really leaving my apartment, I’m not wearing a lot of makeup and this sunscreen makes my skin look really dewey. This past weekend, I put makeup on top of my sunscreen and it looked 🔥. Granted I put on a glowy primer but the sunscreen didn’t make me look chalky or clogged at all. The one thing I don’t like is that it’s kinda small. I just got this like a month ago but I’m worried it won’t last me that long. You don’t have to use a lot of product and maybe it will last longer than I expect. TBD on that one. And while the packaging is super cute. There’s no way of seeing how much product is left. These are pretty minor issues for how awesome the sunscreen feels, looks and works so I’m definitely going to be buying it again and again. Glossier. - Invisible Shield Daily Sunscreen

Toner? Face mist? What is it & do I need it? 🤔
Amongst a plethora of steps in my skincare routine, I have often questioned, what is the actual point of toner⁉️ Here’s the low down: Is toner absolutely necessary? 🙅🏽♀️ no. 💡But here is why you might want to consider investing in one... Toners are water based liquids packed with targeted ingredients that can: ✔️MINIMIZE PORES (👀 look for active ingredients like salicylic acid, witch hazel, tea tree oil) ✔️EXFOLIATE (👀 look for active ingredients like AHAs, BHAs, salicylic, glycolic acid) ✔️CALM & SOOTHE (👀 look for ingredients like cucumber & aloe) ✔️ REMOVE EXCESS MAKEUP ✔️HYDRATE (👀 look for ingredients like rosehip, peptides, aloe, vitamin E) ✔️BALANCE SKIN’S ACIDIC PH LEVEL (to avoid over-drying, try looking for a an alcohol free option) When to use it? Directly after cleansing. Apply toner to a cotton pad or ball and gently swipe across your t-zones or other targeted areas. Alternatively, I like to pat my toner into the skin. Now, on to facial mist... This is a great option for instant skin hydration 💧and can be used post-cleanse, to prime makeup, or for a midday refresh. Ingredients like lactic acid, glycerin, aloe and hyaluronic acid are great for hydration, while mists containing salicylic acid and willow bark are a great option for refining & clarifying. Mists can also help to soothe skin, give you a dewy look, or improve absorption of your moisturizer. Moral of the story: Toners and mists are NOT an essential step in your skincare routine, but if you’re looking to enhance your regimen, this is a great add! My picks: THAYERS - Rose Petal Facial Mist Thayers Witch Hazel Facial Toner (🥒 cucumber) Why? It’s formulated with vitamin C and helps calm & soothe my rosy cheeks. It also works to refine pores. Update: I’ve discontinued use of MARIO BADESCU - Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater This product has caused quite a bit of controversy in the skincare community. While I haven’t personally experienced adverse effects when using this facial mist, I have not noticed significant results. Before purchasing any skincare product, my best advice is to research, research, research! Invest your money in products that are safe and best suited for your skincare goals. Pro tip: Facial spray can be used as a final makeup step for a dewy finish 😉

Favorite Fall Product!
Picked this little guy up from target a few weeks ago and used it immediately! With the seasons changing my skin tends to get dry. Aside from switching out my summer products and adding more hydration - I really like to use peels! They help keep my skin soft and all the dry skin from building up on my face. This mask is gentle yet effective. It tingles as you apply but not anything crazy. After 10-15 minutes you rub it in circles, using the scrub as a light exfoliation. It did leave my face a little pink at first but it went away within a few minutes. I love this product!

✨💛How to get shiny, silky, and smooth hair!!💛✨
Here I’m going to show you how I get shiny, silky, and smooth hair!! I use a homemade recipe with most ingredients you’ll have at home! This picture shows a before and after for results!! I have very THIN, DRY, DAMAGED and BREAKABLE hair and this works for me but you should still try it and let me know if it works for your hair! Prepping: I washed my hair twice with a Pantene 5 in 1 shampoo! Hair mask: Then add a 3 to 1 ratio of olive oil(3) and honey(1) depending on how much hair you have and the thickness of it! Then you can microwave that to make mixing a bit easier! Then I added one Vitamin E capsule to the mix! You can add an essential oil to the mix for better scent! REMEMBER TO MIX WELL BEFORE USE BECAUSE THE MIXTURE WILL SETTLE!! Applying: Add the mixture on your hand and massage into your whole scalp and then into you hair! I let mine sit in the shower for 10 - 15 minutes but you can leave it in up to and hour or more. Rinsing: I washed it out of my hair twice with the Pantene 5 in 1 shampoo! I also have some blonde in my hair so I used a purple shampoo for that. The purple shampoo might have helped getting it out of my hair so if you feel like it’s not all out yet you can wash your hair another time! Conditioning: I put Pantene 5 in 1 conditioner in my hair and let it sit for 5 minutes each time and then rinsed it out! Finally: I brushed out my hair and let it air dry as I went to sleep! If would like to add more variations to the recipe for your hair if you look up the recipe ingredients you’ll find I found the base of the recipe on google. If you try this out let me know if it works for you and tell me your hair type in the comments so I can improve the recipe!! Let me know if you did anything different that worked for you!!
Eye Cream that’s Not BS
I have spent years trying every eye cream and serum at every price point, searching for one that would put a noticeable dent in my dark circles, emerging crows feet, and defined creases under my lash lines. Nothing seemed to work, not even kind of. When I asked my dermatologist if all eye creams were just bullshit she laughed and said yes, they’re mostly just over priced moisturizer... except for the one she personally uses: A.G.E. Eye Complex by SkinCeuticals. Naturally I picked some up to try, excited to claim that yet another eye cream was a disappointment. Y’all. On the first day of use, I noticed my dark circles had diminished slightly. By two weeks, they had faded to a point where I no longer needed concealer to cover them up, just a little matte powder. My second problem area, wrinkles, also seemed to have leveled out a bit. While not totally gone, they seem to be almost airbrushed out at the edges and my defined crease has lost a little length at the ends. Can’t wait to see how this continues to progress. As a side benefit, wherever this spread down onto my cheeks the pores seem to have tightened up a bit. Also, my eyelids which are just starting to get a bit crepe-y seemed to tighten up a bit as well! True to SkinCeuticals form, this luxy textured, noticeably effective cream is not for the faint of wallet. But if you’re looking for something that actually does what it says it does, it’s worth a try! It made a believer out of me! Official verdict: not bullshit!

🧡Hey Pumpkin! 🧡
I've been pretty sick and when I feel this way, my skin gets pretty darn congested. Pop this baby on and do a little pampering and I may still be sick, but it brightens my spirits and gives me a beautiful glow. My blackheads and any dullness is just gone the morning after using this baby. 🌠 The Overtime Mask by @summerfridays has pumpkin(packed with vitamins and a natural exfoliant), apricot seed powder(gentle mild exfoliant), oat kernel protein(helps soothe and moisturize), and Vitamin E(antioxidant that battles free radicals). I love using this exfoliating mask when my skin is looking dull and congested. I love following up with the Jet Lag Mask and Drunk Elephant’s Marula Oil and I always end up with such a beautiful, luminous glow!SUMMER FRIDAYS - Overtime Mask
