A serum for face AND eyes?
Time to talk about another small business! Moon Beings is a newly-launched skincare line with galactic-themed products, all of which are vegan, cruelty free, and packaged in recyclable materials (they also offer a recycling program for all their products). Grace & Stella serum
I received this in my Cause Box and I was excited to try it. I’ve heard a lot about hyaluronic acid as of late, so this fit the bill. I have skin that has a tendency to be dry, coupled with stubborn acne on my forehead, the bridge of my nose, and around my mouth and on my chin. I am trying to find products that help prevent fine lines and wrinkles, hydrate, but also keep my skin clear. I was hoping this would help! Pros: goes on nice and light. Doesn’t feel heavy. It doesn’t seem to have clogged my pores or made my breakouts worse. I think this would be a good product for oily skin. Cons: Has a Think Dirty score of 6. This means I won’t repurchase, though I’ll finish the bottle. It provided some hydration and it seemed to be a good weight for summer, but in the winter, I don’t think it will be enough. It seems like nothing special. The verdict: not a very clean product. Not bad for summer or oilier skin. Won’t repurchase.
Today’s favourite is The Ordinary‘s Retinol 1% in Squalane. The ingredients are pretty straightforward: Squalane, a few other oils, 1% retinol, tomato fruit extract, a preservative. Retinol is a form of vitamin A and one of the very few actives that has scientifically proven anti aging potential. There are other retinoids, some of which like adapalen or isotretinoin are considered pharmaceuticals. They are generally used as an acne treatment, isotretinoin is probably also the most effective anti aging topical there is (prescription only though, and for good reasons!) Retinol also helps with acne, thickens your skin and can even help with scars. Too good to be true? As with everything, there has to be a downside: Your skin has to get used to it and while it does you will either get very dry skin or your skin will purge and you’ll get extra pimply. It’s very important to start retinol slowly and with a low percentage. As I have used prescription retinoids for acne in the past, I decided to skip the lowest percentage The Ordinary offers (0.2%) and start with 0.5%. The first one and a half months were bad, so many new pimples. After the initial purging my skin got better fast. When I ran out of my 0.5 bottle I decided to try out 1%. It went smoothly and I‘m on my second bottle now. I use it two to three times a week and it works nicely. I rarely get spots and I like to think that my skin looks more even in general. Like all The Ordinary products, this one is really cheap, I personally also like the squalane base as it‘s pretty moisturising. Definitely a good retinol product for beginners. A few words of warning though: if you have very sensitive skin or skin issues like rosacea, retinol might not be for you. If you’re in your 20s you can wait, unless you have issues with acne and/or scarring (like me). And: Sunscreen is even more important while using Retinol!!

Cover Fx LFusion Drops? ☀️Lemongrass☀️
After coming across yet another quarantine sale a few months ago for Cover Fx, I decided to purchase their Lemongrass Vitamin C Fusion drops. I’m sure there are many ways to use this product. I was excited to try mixing it into my foundation but...I don’t wear much makeup these days. So I decided that I would mix a few drops into my moisturizer at night. Dont do what I did and use more than like 2 drops....wasted so much product... I gotta say, I love this product. Literally the next day I could see a difference in my skin. My skin had a healthy glow and felt soft and supple. After a few weeks, I swear my acne went down a tad (I think inadequate hydration makes my skin break out, among hormonal imbalances). I’ve been using it for a few months now and I swear I can’t wait to buy another bottle ( probably won’t tho cause it’s so expensive...) COVER FX - Custom Infusion Drops

Used to have severe acne
I used to have super bad acne in 2018 but my dermatologist suggested i used a prescription called veltin and it has gone away pretty well. I still have occasional breakouts (usually being a symptom of pms) but other than my Freckles and dark under-eye circles my Skin is pretty clear. I pretty much just deal with blotchy skin and dryness

Retinol alternative. Does Bakuchiol work?
Bakuchiol - is it really a retinol alternative? 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝘽𝙖𝙠𝙪𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙤𝙡? >>A vegan, all natural plant extract, said to be a 𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘰𝘭 𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦. Bakuchiol comes from the Babchj plant and is a compound isolated from the seeds and leaves. It is then commercially purified to become what we are seeing in skincare, Bakuchiol oil. 𝘿𝙤𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙩 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠? There is not enough studies or research on how it works particularly at this time, BUT with the few that there are, 𝙔𝙀𝙎, 𝙞𝙩 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙨. ✰ improves sign of aging. Has the same collagen boosting properties as Retinol. ✰ its an antioxidant! It fights against free radicals. ✰ fades pigmentation. It inhibits melanin production. ✰ antibacterial + anti-inflammatory. Fights acne! 𝙄𝙨 𝙞𝙩 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙖 𝙜𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙤𝙡 𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚? It’s honestly just as effective according to research. You do have to use it am and pm to achieve the same results just from nightly retinol. ✰ not sun sensitive, wear this night and day! ✰ better suited for sensitive skin types that can’t handle retinol yet. 𝙣𝙞𝙖𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙙𝙚 𝙙𝙤𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙖𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙗𝙖𝙨𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮. USE BOTH! Bakuchiol stabilizes Retinol, helps it work longer, and also helps skin sensitivity to retinol. HERBIVORE - Bakuchiol Anti-Aging Serum This Bakuchiol serum really didn’t do much for me. It will not be a repurchase. It does not compare to a lower dose/% of retinol at all for me. While it has a nice tacky yet luxurious texture, it pretty much just made my skin feel hydrated and that’s about it. I will be trying the rest of this serum with my retinol as I have read new things about them working better together, so we will see!
