This or That: Best Product for Shiny Hair
My hair is wavy, very prone to frizz and I have a lot of baby hairs that won’t quit. Lately, I’ve noticed that it’s lacking in the shine department. Suddenly in dire need of shiny hair, I decided to scroll through Sephora’s hair bestsellers to see which products could help. I landed on Kerastase’s Elixir Ultime Oil Serum (which has 4 ½ stars and ranks in at $50) and Amika’s Supernova Moisture and Shine Hair Cream (which has 4 stars and ranks in at $25). A little about the products: KÉRASTASE - Elixir Ultime Oil Serum is designed to add hydration and prevent breakage for anti-frizz shine using a blend of maize oil, procaxi oil, and argan oil. It can be used before, during, and after blow-drying for frizz-free, super-shiny, and hydrated hair. amika: - Supernova Moisture and Shine Cream , on the other hand, is a weightless, conditioning leave-in cream that adds shine, detangles, tames frizz, and protects hair from heat styling. Designed to be used on damp hair, it helps to boost hair's ability to retain moisture, while providing a silky, smooth texture. A heat activated complex restores shine and smoothness to hair. Rules of the experiment: To ensure that the results were the same, I made sure to use both on damp hair that had been washed with the same shampoo and conditioner. I also used both after using Drybar’s Velvet Hammer leave-in, which I always use for frizz and adding a little extra hydration. I also airdried my hair on both days. Results and thoughts: Kerastase is literally liquid gold. It has a lovely, luxurious scent and is thicker than your average hair serum because of its oil-serum hybrid. This not only added a healthy shine to my hair but I also found that it made it feel so soft. I’ve used it in the past on its own and found that my ends were still a little dry and found that it works best with a hydrating leave-in – it mixes well with others, which I love. My hair can be prone to oiliness and I was afraid to apply the product to my roots. To prevent excess oil and shine, I focused application to the bottoms and then applied the last bits to the roots. This worked really well. Overall, it helped tame minor frizz and really added some shine into my hair. I will definitely be repurchasing. Amika’s isn’t my fave. I really wanted to like this formula because of the price, lovely scent and its gorgeously hydrating texture, but I found that it didn’t really do much. I didn’t notice any increase in shine or hydration and felt like my hair remained the same. Like with Kerastase’s Elixir, I have also tried this solo before and didn’t think it was very hydrating and wanted to see how it performed with a hydrating base – it didn’t mix well with the Drybar leave-in and left my hair feeling hard and sticky. Not my favorite hair product out there and will not be repurchasing.

Frizz usually takes over our hair in wet seasons, when we abuse heat tools and also, when we don't constantly hydrate our roots. If you have dry or mixed hair, you should keep in mind that the products you apply should be free of the presence of alcohols, as their astringent function can further dry those areas that are already dehydrated, producing more frizz in the hair, break and removing the shine and volume you have desired. You can choose several anti-frizz creams that will help you how to remove frizz. ! Briogeo - Farewell Frizz Blow Dry Perfection Heat Protectant CreamThis one leaves my hair feeling soft and silky . It also has all the natural properties your hair will need. My most important recommendation is NOT usind a regular towel for drying your hair. Use a microfiber one or a cotton t-shirt. The regular towels break your hair making it super frizzy. The microfiber towel looks like this (Pic2). It’s super soft and leaves your hair intact.
Scalp Revival 236ml | CA$54 – I’m seriously obsessed with this charcoal exfoliating scrub. This has greatly helped with controlling my oily scalp and occasional dandruff. Don’t Make These Mistakes When Straightening Your Hair
Even if you have frizzy, unruly hair as I do, you can still achieve sleek, shiny hair with a few great tools and products in your arsenal. Learn from my mistakes to ensure your next ‘do is perfect! I’m giving you some of the best tips and tricks I've learned through my own hair journey. My Hair Type I have very dry, curly/wavy hair. I love wearing it down and straight! If I keep it curly, I usually have quite a bit of frizz, especially during the summer. Mistakes I've Made Straightening hair before it’s completely dry. Don’t do it! It creates split ends and broken hair. Now, I make sure my hair is bone dry before I use any heat. Forgoing heat protectant. I used to think they were unnecessary, boy was I wrong! I have significantly less damage now that I started using one. Passing the iron over one section too many times. This creates more heat damage than necessary. Instead, I invested in a high-quality hair straightener that gets the job done in one pass. Tools & Products I Use To Fix My Mistakes: 1. Ghd ‘classic styler’ hair straightener - This tool is a little pricey ($200). I do love it though, it heats up in 30 seconds and I can straighten my hair in one pass. 2. Amika heat protectant - This is actually heat protecting serum, which is pretty cool. It’s $25 and protects and adds shine to my hair. Bonus, it smells awesome. 3. Oplalex No. 5 & 6 - I love Olaplex, I can’t say that enough. Numbers 5 & 6 are the hair cream ($28) and hair oil ($28). I mix the two together in my palms and rub in through my ends when I’m done straightening. (I also use their shampoo & conditioner and love them both!)

Coarse Hair Is No Match For These Holy Grail Products
Coarse hair can be ultra-difficult to keep shiny and smooth. It seems like coarse hair has a mind of its own! My natural hair is quite curly and coarse, but it's also on the thinner side. If I don't use my holy grail hair care products, I look like a poodle. For lack of better words! The tricky thing with my hair is that while it needs a major boost of hydration, I tend to get oily roots quite fast because it's on the thinner side. Luckily, I've found some excellent products that combat my course dry strands without my roots looking like an oil slick. Products I can't live without: 1. OLAPLEX No.6 Bond Smoother Reparative Styling Creme $28 This is sulfates & paraben-free styling cream is such a hair-saver. It comes in a 3.3oz (recyclable) bottle and smells delicious. A little goes a long way; this stuff is potent. I use about a pea size amount and run it through damp hair. I use it on dry hair too after styling. I've been using it for around a year, and I'm already on my second bottle. I will repurchase it - no doubt about it! 2. OLAPLEX No.7 Bonding Oil $28 In my mind, OLAPLEX can do no wrong, so it's no wonder I'm obsessed with the bonding oil as well. The 1oz bottle comes in a small, easy to use bottle. I put about 3-4 drops in the palms of my hands and mix it with OLAPLEX No.6 and put in my dry hair. It makes my hair look shiny, feel softer, and it smells light & fresh. I'm still on my first bottle (a little goes a long way), but I know I'll be repurchasing when I finally run out. I use this mixture (No.6 + No.7) about twice a week to keep my coarse hair feeling soft.
How to Care for Long, Thin and Bleached Hair ☀️
I have very long and thin bleached hair so it gets very dry easily and also can get extra oily at times with regular washing. I wash it in the morning, brush it through and let it air dry after adding in some products below! 1. Add Hydration ✨Bleach dries out hair like no other so adding hydration back into your hair is going to be important. I use a variety of products for this. One thing I like is to use really nourishing shower products like the Olaplex conditioner. These products are gorgeous and make my hair feel better and softer. Their unique technology repairs hair from within. ✨Another product I love is the Gisou hair oil which is good for hydration but also styling if you’re just leaving your hair down for the day. It smells amazing and the honey is great for hair. It tames flyaways, somehow just makes hair look better and hydrated. ✨Hair masks can also be very useful and Olaplex has one too. I also like the Amika hair masks for extra hydration and try to use these at least once a week to repair and hydrate. 2. Detangle ✨One product I love to use right after washing is the leave in conditioner spray by It’s a 10! This has so many uses, hence the name, but I love the smell, nourishing and detangling properties of this the most. The detangler aspect is also useful so I’m not causing unnecessary damage when brushing if I have knots. 3. Take a Hair Supplement ✨After starting my first, I’ve found that my hair definitely grows faster and feels better than before! I use Hush & Hush supplements. They have them for hair, daily vitamins and one that is super amazing for nighttime if you’re struggling with relaxing and sleeping. You can use my name as a code to save money too if you’d like (“chelsea”). This is important because you’re giving your body what it needs and more to care for your hair health and also your body. 4. Use Products with Extra Heat Protection ✨I personally like Amika’s The Wizard because it smells amazing and does the job. Generally, temperatures over 450 F won’t break or damage hair but I avoid lots of heat and styling just because my hair is already damaged and dry, but when I do I always use products with extra protection. Regular hair cuts help too to prevent additional breakage at the bottom! OLAPLEX - No.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner gisou - Honey Infused Hair Oil it's a 10 haircare - Leave-In Conditioner Spray Product amika: - The Wizard Detangling Primer

Curly Hair Daily Routine
Finally I found a topic that many thin hair girl or curly hair girl might be interested in, that is how to treat my curly hair. I was straight hair for years. I’ve always wanted to go curly because of the volume and big hair that I was always dream of. I personally hesitated a long time before go curly just because of the concern of washing and taking care of curly hair. And here comes my personal hacks! Curly hair gives you the volume and easy to get a style. It is even easier to create a beautiful bun comparing with straight hair. My hair care routine is a little bit different when I went curly. No worries it is not gonna make it harder, it’s just some tips to be noticed. You know when to wash your curls when they start to get way down when they really tingly and a lot more dryer than regular hair. It is important to wash it less often than you would with regular hair. Tip #1. Condition hair first. I did the same way before getting my curls. But with curly it even more important to detangling with conditioner. I also put it on my root cus I do have tangles there. And I would put 2 coins amount all over my curls Tip #2. Be extra gentle when washing it. And let hair mask to stay longer (at least over 15 min) Tip #3. Use a cotton towel to soak your wet hair, DO NOT RUB. ! You don’t want to create extra frizz to your hair. We want the healthy and bouncy hair. Tip #4. Put treatment on damp hair. Do not wait till completely dryOLAPLEX - No. 3 Hair Perfector -Limited Edition Tip # 5 Let it dry naturally ! ! This step is gonna make your hair look healthier and more shinny. Effect would double if you apply an oil. OLAPLEX - No. 7 Bonding Oil Do not panic if you see a lot strands after washing. People lose 100 strands/ day, unlike straight hair you lose it over the washroom, your curls will hold them till you washes them. These are my tips for curly hair wash routine. Hope you like it!

Best Leave-In Conditioners for Type 3A Curls
Happy Sunday everyone, As promised, here are the best leave-in conditioners that I have/or continue to use that have worked best on me. Just a reminder that I have type 3A curls and have also thin hair, so it may not work best for everyone. However, I just wanted to share them because they are also pretty underrated and unknown in the industry. aussie - Miracle Curls with Coconut Oil Paraben Free Detangling Milk Treatment The name speaks for itself honestly. This is my FAVORITE leave in conditioner so far. I cannot emphasize the difference in my hair when I used this product and then switched to try other leave-ins. The difference was so overwhelming that I decided to stick with it. You will notice that I use a lot of conditioning that has milk and has detangling properties because part of taking care of our hair is keeping it moistured (NOT WITH PURE OILS) and not allowing it to get too tangled. I will post, in the near future, other tips on how to minimize tangling in curly hair, so stay tuned! I also like that this product has small quantities of Coconut and Jojoba oil. While I NEVER recommend buying and applying pure oil, the fact that these are blended with milk allows for the properties of these oils to work more effectively without clogging your hair shafts. Coconut oil helps PROVIDE more moisture, while Jojoba oil helps SEAL in that moisture. Also, jojoba oil is the oil most similar to out bodies’ natural sebum, so this eases into our hair much more effectively that the other oils. You won’t see these mixtures in common products, so I highly recommend. Carol's Daughter - Hair Milk 4-in-1 ''Combing'' Crème This is another great product that I also use! What I do is use the Miracle Curls right after I wash my hair and style it. I use the Carol’s Daughter product on a daily basis to retouch my hair before going out. It’s really nice to use due to its detangling, styling, defining, and shining properties! And without the need of adding oils, which I like. novex by EMBELLEZE - My Curls Memorizer Leave In A product from Brazil that I really love! I’m definitely thinking of going back to this once the Carol’s Daughter product is completely consumed to see how it works alongside the Miracle Curls. The uniqueness of this product is the use of cranberry which help maintain a healthy and non-irritant scalp with its antioxidant, antibacterial, AND anti-inflammatory properties. And it also has a blend of oils in SMALL quantities that help moisturize and seal that moisture for a healthy hair without clogging the hair shafts. Please let me know how your hair feels if you decide to try these products for yourself! I would love to see if these posts are helping anyone, as that is the goal! Take care!

5 Tips to Start Your Natural Curl Journey
I started my natural curl journey in February of 2019 and although it takes lots of research and experimenting, it is well worth it! My top 5 tips (where to start) to get your natural curls back are: 1. Cut out heat styling If you’re anything like me, you’ve spent most of your adult life trying to straighten your curls into submission. The first tip to getting your curls back is to stop using a flat iron/curling irons on your hair. I know it’s tempting to straighten your hair on a “bad curl day”, but the sooner you cut out heat styling the sooner your curls will bounce back. 2. Use Moisturing Shampoo/Conditioner It is going to take work and LOTS of patience to nurse your hair back to life. I highly recommend OLAPLEX - No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo OLAPLEX - No.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner MIZANI - True Textures Moisture Replenish Shampoo MIZANI - True Textures Cream Cleansing Conditioner Bounce Curl - Enzyme Gentle Clarifying Shampoo Bounce Curl - Super Smooth Cream Conditioner The mentioned products are ones I have tried and adore - they will bring life back to your hair. 3. Add Deep Conditioning to Your Routine At the beginning of my curl journey I deep conditioned in the shower once weekly. Depending on the current health of your hair, using heat while deep conditioning may help even more. You may need to deep condition more or less often, let your hair tell you. Some of my favorite deep conditioners are Briogeo - Don't Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Hair Mask MIZANI - True Textures Moroccan Clay Steam Hair Mask Wild Haven BOTANICA - Botanical Hair Mask 4. Research and Experiment With Curl Methods The Curly Girl Method (CGM) is one that many curly girls all over the world swear by! I personally don’t follow it but I would recommend reading about it and deciding if you want to give it a try! Everyone’s curls are unique to them - meaning your curls have their own pattern and texture and it takes a lot of trial and error in the beginning. It’s all worth it, I promise! Check out my IG page @type_ofbeautiful for examples of curl styling methods. 5. Be Patient!!! Getting your natural curls to be their very best takes time. I started to see improvement in my curls around the 3 month mark (and gradual improvement since) but everyone is different. As time passes, the combination of your hair getting healthy and learning the best styling methods and products will help your curls transform! It is tough, especially in the beginning, but rewarding in more ways than I can count. Have you started your curl journey yet? Let me know in the comments! #CherieCreator #BeautyWithoutBarriers
