The Secret To My Clear Skin

lauren_michelle05
I was 13 years old with tons of acne all over my face that just wouldn’t go away. It really messed with my self esteem so I went to Walmart to find something that could help me out. It was called Differin Gel and it was very affordable. I would wash my face with CeraVe the cleanser at night then apply the gel to my face. I would wait 30 minutes before applying moisturizer and that’s all it took. My skin cleared after 2 months and I barely have any breakouts. Differin gel truly helped me and it may seem like it’s not helping, but give it some time. I have sensitive skin so I did get some redness, but eventually it all cleared up. P.S. Make sure to use sunscreen in the morning as well to help not getting sunburnt because it makes you more prone to.

With patience, Differin worked for me!
I’ve always been skeptical of the products that cause purging, but while in quarantine I decided to give Differin a shot! My skin was congested, breakouts are always popping up, and they were painful. I’ve always been the kind of person to take care of my skin, but I couldn’t manage to get rid of my team for breakouts and the terrible texture on my cheeks and jawline. So, I gave Differin a try. - At first, my skin definitely was dry and irritated because of the product, but I made sure to moisturize well. I tried not to put any make up on and just let my skin do its thing. It’s also important to not pick at your face, which I am SO guilty of doing. - I know everyone’s skin is different, but it only took about a month for it to clear up! I just had another flare up but I’m not sure if it’s stressed related bc #unemployedgrad but this really helped me! Just stay consistent and you’ll see results quickly! 😇

Curology is Amazing🥰
Curology is Amazing🥰
Curology - Curology formula I had very bad scars and lots of acne. I started using Curology in March 2019 and I started seeing results pretty quick, my face was totally clear about 7 months later. I still continue to use it and I couldn't be happier. I was always so insecure and couldn't leave my house without foundation to hide all my acne, now I don't need it and I'm comfortable without it 😊 I totally recommend people try this out for a few months see if it helps!

The thought of having your own personalized formula is awesome! I was super excited to see what it could do for me. My skin is not necessarily acne prone, but I have plenty clogged pores, blockheads and scarring that I wanted to focus on. I used this for a little over 2 months, sent the selfies & followed every step. I was not seeing a positive change in my skin, if anything, it got worse after the purging. It seemed like my skin purged and then stayed that way. I had acne like I had never had before. I wanted to chat with them about it, they changed my formula and sent the new bottle. I used that for about a week before I decided to test it and not use it for a week. My skin starting clearing and looking better, until I started using it again. Needless to say this was NOT for me! Everyone’s skin is different and there are tons of success stories with Curology! Personally, I think it is more geared towards regular everyday acne prone skin and I simply need more products to treat my specific issues.

Curology or Differin for persistent acne?
Curology or Differin for persistent acne?
So I’ve had acne since I was 13 (I’m now 24). When you’ve dealt with an issue like acne for over a decade, you try a whooole lot of different products. These two are my top picks for persistent acne, and I’ll give you a spoiler: Curology comes out on top. Differin gel was previously available only by prescription. The active ingredient is .1% adapalene, a retinoid that works by speeding up cell turnover. Basically, it’s more difficult for pores to get clogged and develop into acne. The texture is a thin gel that absorbs very quickly. It does take some time to work, since it’s a retinoid—you really need to use it consistently for at least 12 weeks to see improvements, and your skin may purge. I used Differin gel for several years, and it cleared my acne to a far better degree than the products I had been using before (proactiv). On the other hand, Curology is a telemedicine service that matches you with a medical provider. You upload pictures of your skin, fill out a questionnaire, and you get prescribed a custom cream with three ingredients, some of which are prescription. Mine is 1% clindamycin, 9% azelaic acid, and .018% tretinoin. While Differin served me well for a good while, Curology has been helping my skin over the last year in a whole new way. I’ll be honest: it hasn’t been easy. My first Curology prescription completely cleared my skin—I’m talking clearest it’s been in a decade—and then my acne came back worse than ever. The bright side is, with Curology, you can contact your provider at any time and they can adjust your formula. I did that, and my provider also prescribed me two months of oral antibiotics to help my breakout clear up faster. They helped immensely, and I’m hopeful that my skin journey is headed in the right direction, though it takes time. Currently, Curology isn’t available in all 50 states, while Differin is. If you’re struggling with acne, my #1 recommendation is Curology because it’s customized to your skin needs and it can be adjusted over time. If Curology isn’t available to you, Differin is also a solid product with proven results. Differin is $30 for a tube that lasts about 3 months, and Curology is $20/month, which is more than worth it to me. Have you used either product? How has it worked for you?

Drugstore Surprise: Clean&Clear Spot Treatment
Drugstore Surprise: Clean&Clear Spot Treatment
If you’re experiencing a breakout and want relief fast, then you NEED this product. This is the only skincare product that I still use from my high school days and love it because of how effective and affordable it is. This acne treatment gel is a maximum-strength acne spot treatment with 10% benzoyl peroxide and gets deep into the pores to clear out acne-causing bacteria and reduce the size and redness of existing pimples. It’s very strong so make sure you only use a little bit of it on the affected area - otherwise you could get some dryness or irritation. jumiso- AC Cure No Pain No Gai
jumiso- AC Cure No Pain No Gain Spot Cream Description | • Botanical ingredient-based Silica penetrates deep into the skin to effectively deliver active ingredients. • Firmly massage the cream into the skin as if directly sensing its permeation. Impression | Decent-looking cream that actually gave me stinging sensation for hours. Thoughts | • After trying this spot cream for several times, I've figured out how to best use it on my acne spot! I'd be applying this right after cleansing as per instruction without spreading it well on the spot area and apply the rest of my skincare while skipping the spot. Once I'm done applying my regular moisturiser, only then I'd gently and carefully spread the spot cream. • This is to avoid the silica-containing spot cream to spread around my facial area which was so irritating for 2 days after that. Overall, I give this cream 4/5. It works superbly but definitely do a patch test before using it. This spot cream might further trigger other sensitive area so please proceed with care and read the instruction properly. I'd definitely be repurchasing but this one goes a little for a long way hence the 15g size.

Differin gel
Differin gel
Differin gel is a retinoid formula that was previously only available by prescription. It’s specifically formulated to help with stubborn acne, and it was a saving grace for me for several years. I started using the gel on the recommendation of a friend in pharmacy school. I was warned that my acne would probably get worse before it got better, which it did. But when it got better, it was way better! Before using Differin, I had used Proactiv for years, and while it made a dent in my acne, I still had a lot. Differin was drying for a while, but once I found a good moisturizer, the dryness wasn’t an issue. The texture is a thin gel that absorbs very quickly. You’re supposed to apply it once a day on dry skin, and I used it at night. It’s not cosmetically elegant or fancy, because it’s not supposed to be—but it does work. The only reason I stopped using Differin is because while my inflamed acne was pretty much gone, I was still getting a lot of closed comedones and I had some scarring I wanted to clear up. I got a Curology prescription for tretinoin, which can’t be used with Differin. I still have a lot left in this tube, so I’ve been using it as an occasional spot treatment and on my occasional chest acne. I would recommend this to anyone dealing with mild or moderate acne. Since it was previously only by prescription, the main ingredient is very effective for clearing up acne. The larger tube (seen here) is about $30, but it lasted me around 4 months every time I used it. I would recommend buying the large tube if you’re just starting out with it, as it will take at least 3 months of consistent use to see the effects. Just remember to get a good moisturizer—Differin sells several good basic ones for very reasonable prices.
