MY CURLS. UNVEILED.
laureeen
Story time.
I straightened my hair from age 12 to 26. Wore it in a bun from 26 to 27ish. Cut the dead ends then finally got my natural curl back.
I say that I have 3a/3b curls but if you think otherwise tell me in the comments bc I really donât even know haha. I literally just ask people who have similar curls to mine what they use (esp pros like @hairinel on IG â sheâs helped me A LOT...we gotta get sis on this app!).
Iâve had many trials errors tribulations about what to do with these curls. But Iâve kind of found a decent routine for my low maintenance ass self. So I thought Iâd share.

OKAY curly girls of cherie. Let me put you on to Mielle if you havenât heard of them already.

If you are really looking for some deep moisture this Hawaiian Ginger line is for YOU.
The shampoo is a bit difficult to pump out, and you need to use kind of a lot of it to get some good suds (if youâre into that) 𧟠but overall itâs pretty nice. I thought it would be more fragrant but itâs not! Itâs kind of like a calming ginger tea đŤ
MIELLE - Moisture RX Hawaiian Ginger Moisturizing & Anti-Breakage Shampoo
The conditioner is definitely THICC. Had to take a few pumps then comb it through sections of my hair in the shower. Left it in and after a few mins I rinsed it out..it felt pretty smooth.
MIELLE - Moisture RX Hawaiian Ginger Moisturizing & Anti-Breakage Conditioner
Okay here is where it gets a little tricky for me. I have very fine hair. And it needs moisture but if I go overboard it just doesnât sit right when I dry it. So when using the leave in conditioner, I think I overdid it and left a lil too much in. I normally use the Ouidad - Advanced Climate Control Featherlight Styling Cream after I wash/condition and it is perfect when I diffuse afterwards bc itâs so light. But mistakes were made on my part bc it did not look cute when I diffused it dry.
MIELLE - Moisture RX Hawaiian Ginger Moisturizing Leave-In Conditioner
I only used a bit of the MIELLE - Moisture RX Hawaiian Ginger Moisturizing Styling Gel after the leave in and before diffusing and it was OK but I think I had too much leave in for it to do anything cute for me.
Overall, I think it is worth another shot! There is seriously a TON of product here for a really great affordable price. I would say itâs only a bit smaller than Pattern Beauty but I would take Mielle over Pattern any day for the fragrance alone (Sorry Auntie Tracee) â I really hate strong fragrance in my hair products!! I def want to try the overnight conditioner and wash in the AM then use my regular products to style to see if I can still maintain the hydration from the night before, without it weighing my curls down when theyâre dry.
Weâll see how it goes!!!

New Haul For All My New Friends!!
Looks like Iâve been getting some new followers here on ze cherie. Hello and welcome!! Thought Iâd share this haul thatâs been sittin in my drafts for a minute.
Just got allllllll these goodies from PATTERN beauty for my 3a curly tresses. Fun Fact: Tracee Ellis Ross is the founder, and was my valentine once (Iâm not lying. At all.) She launched styling products a little bit ago and Iâve been super excited to try these. Iâve been pretty consistently on my natural hair journey for a few years now and Iâm always down to try new products!
PATTERN - Styling Cream I personally think this cream can totally work for some folks. I have really fine hair so it can get weighed down pretty easily. This cream is thicc unlike most other curl creams (way thicker than my usualOuidad - Advanced Climate Control Featherlight Styling Cream ) so a little can go a long way â for me, bc there is A LOT in this tub. One thing I can truthfully say with this brand is they really paid attention to the amount of product curls need and the value is THERE for the size and quality.
PATTERN - Hydrating Mist Iâve tried many hydrating mists. I donât give this one top marks though bc I just donât like the smell. Itâs too floral for me. It also hydrates I guess?? But idk how I feel about it â I havenât found the perfect hydrating mist that helps tame the mane on my extra frizzy days.
PATTERN - Hair Pick if there is one thing I CAN say about the styling tools is that auntie Tracee came thru with the qualiTEA! This pick is strong and comes with a velvety sleeve. You can tell they did the most with tools on this line bc the PATTERN - Edge Tool is also đŻ and pairs nicely with the PATTERN - Edge Control or even the OUAI - Matte Pomade
PATTERN - Mist Spray Bottle this is also nice but the biggest difference is it can hold a lot more water. Maybe like 20% more than you can get from the ones on Amazon.
THE RUNDOWN
Value â
Quality â
Efficacy âď¸â(it works fine itâs just not my favorite)
Would I repurchase? Not sure. But there is so much product I honestly donât know when Iâll even have to buy more đ

Out with the old and in with the new!
Iâm in love with this brand for all things hair. Iâve been through 2 tubs of the Briogeo - Don't Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Hair Mask (đ) and when I went to re-buy, it was sold out, so I decided to try something new! These masks are pretty different in my opinion, different in texture, smell, and what they do for my hair. The Briogeo - Don't Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Hair Mask (đ) makes my hair feel softer where as the Briogeo - Be Gentle, Be Kind Avocado + Kiwi Mega Moisture Superfoods Hair Mask makes my hair shine so much more, and makes it feel really hydrated, this mask is also a lot thicker than the first one, and it smells like sour candy. Overall, I love both of these masks sooo much. Whatâs your favourite hair mask?đ

Loose waves hack
I have thin, naturally straight hair, and normally I just pass through my hair with a straightener just to straighten the kinks and baby hairs, but sometimes I like to switch up my daily hairstyle and give my hair a little body. Iâm not that great at curling my own hair, and it takes a pong time, and sometimes I have the luxury of spending thirty minutes on my hair.
I found this hair hack on pinterest and tried it a few times when I want to change it up- straightening braids 𤯠The end result is cute beachy loose waves and I accomplish a little change in my hair look âşď¸
Notable products here are the UV/heat protectinf spray by Bumble&Bumble, which is a must before blow drying hair or straightening. This keeps my hair from drying and protects the ends longer so I dont get split ends for a while. The Dyson hair dryer is literally amazing- expensive, but you wont understand the worth until you try it. Its *chefs kiss* amazing.
My hair straightener is Croc, really good straightener, doesnt pull out your hairs and gives you smooth, straight hair SO quickly.
Finally, id you have greys like I do, Loreal magic root touch up is a lifesaver đđź

The Ouai for Curly Hair
I've been testing out a few Ouai products they sent
me a while ago for my curls to see how they do. So far I'm liking the Leave-in Conditioner for refreshing my hair and the Finishing Creme for styling! They smell AMAZING! I'm not a big dry shampoo girl since my scalp is dry rather then oily, so curly girls tell me how you use dry shampoo for your hair.
Have you guys tried Ouai products before? What are your faves? I think I want to they their new treatments masks next.

Sephora favorites samples worth it? đâ¨
When I saw this Sephora favorites bag, I really wanted to get it for the ren body serum and the caudalie gel cleanser. I debated if it was even worth it, I bit the bullet and got it. Iâve got to say these are worth it. Itâs great that it includes a 15% off code for each item.
The caudalie purifying gel cleanser is 1oz. The full size is $28 for 5oz so it comes out to $5.60 and oz.
first time I tried it it felt really good on my face. Didnât dry me out and if I end up loving it Iâll have to get the full size.
CAUDALIE - Vinopure Pore Purifying Gel Cleanser
Ren clean skincare body serum, this came in a great 1.7 oz. The full size is $42 for 6.8 oz. so it comes out to about $6 with some change. Iâve been using this for a couple days and it feels great on my skin.
REN CLEAN SKINCARE - AHA Smart Renewal Body Serum
LancĂ´me mascara. This is the mini 0.06oz. The full size is $25 for 0.33 oz, $13 for the 0.13 travel size so the mini 0.06 comes out to $6.50.
Pretty nice mascara so far. It doesnât clump up.
LANCĂME - Monsieur Big Mascara
Ouai hair oil. This came in the 0.33 mini size. The full size is $28 for 1.5 oz, $14 for 0.45 oz. This mini size I will assume itâs about $10-12.
Just used this oil and itâs incredibly soft. The downside is the smell. Itâs pretty heavy but it kinda smells like gardenia flowers to me.
OUAI - OUAI Hair Oil
Make up for ever ultra HD microfinishing loose powder. Itâs in a tiny 1 g jar. The full size $36 for 8.5 g, $20 for 4 g travel size so the 1 g jar would be about $5.
Iâve had this powder before and really likes it a lot. Itâs super fine which I love. It sets my makeup well and hasnât given me that many creases.
MAKE UP FOR EVER - Ultra HD Microfinishing Loose Powder
Versace perfume sample. In a very tiny spray. Itâs 0.03 oz. The travel size in a spray is $30 for 0.3oz. So for 0.03 it would be about $3.75
Iâve had this in the travel size roller ball. Really nice perfume with flowery notes. I love the peony, lotus and magnolia scents.
VERSACE - Bright Crystal Eau de Toilette
This bag was definitely worth it to me. I ended up liking every single product. As in the price, Iâd say itâs pretty good. Personally the value of the bag is more than the $10 I spent.
This may definitely not be correct but this bag could have a value of about $37!
The math could be way off but to me I really liked this.
Have you tried or bought this bag, or are you not interested?

Dry Itchy scalp be gone! Without spending $$$
yesto - Tea Tree Gentle & Soothing Pre-Shampoo Scalp Scrub is a great, much less expensive substitute for Briogeo - Scalp Revival Charcoal + Coconut Oil Micro-exfoliating Scalp Scrub Shampoo
They both contain Tea Tree Oil to help combat scalp itch.
The Briogeo is meant to be used instead of shampoo, the Yesto version is a pre-shampoo scrub.
The Briogeo contains Charcoal, Coconut Oil, Peppermint & Spearmint. The Yesto contains Sage Oil, Witch Hazel, and ACV. So if you are sensitive to the ingredients in one you might want to check out the other! In either case if you have reactive or sensitive skin I would do a spot test first.
As far as the Briogeo - Scalp Revival Stimulating Therapy Massager , I found a much less expensive version on Amazon for $8 - half the price! If you have very fine hair you should be extra gentle as this tool might tear your hair. If your hair is very dense, it might take some trial and error to figure out the best way to use it.

How to Care for Long, Thin and Bleached Hair âď¸
I have very long and thin bleached hair so it gets very dry easily and also can get extra oily at times with regular washing. I wash it in the morning, brush it through and let it air dry after adding in some products below!
1. Add Hydration
â¨Bleach dries out hair like no other so adding hydration back into your hair is going to be important. I use a variety of products for this. One thing I like is to use really nourishing shower products like the Olaplex conditioner. These products are gorgeous and make my hair feel better and softer. Their unique technology repairs hair from within.
â¨Another product I love is the Gisou hair oil which is good for hydration but also styling if youâre just leaving your hair down for the day. It smells amazing and the honey is great for hair. It tames flyaways, somehow just makes hair look better and hydrated.
â¨Hair masks can also be very useful and Olaplex has one too. I also like the Amika hair masks for extra hydration and try to use these at least once a week to repair and hydrate.
2. Detangle
â¨One product I love to use right after washing is the leave in conditioner spray by Itâs a 10! This has so many uses, hence the name, but I love the smell, nourishing and detangling properties of this the most. The detangler aspect is also useful so Iâm not causing unnecessary damage when brushing if I have knots.
3. Take a Hair Supplement
â¨After starting my first, Iâve found that my hair definitely grows faster and feels better than before! I use Hush & Hush supplements. They have them for hair, daily vitamins and one that is super amazing for nighttime if youâre struggling with relaxing and sleeping. You can use my name as a code to save money too if youâd like (âchelseaâ). This is important because youâre giving your body what it needs and more to care for your hair health and also your body.
4. Use Products with Extra Heat Protection
â¨I personally like Amikaâs The Wizard because it smells amazing and does the job. Generally, temperatures over 450 F wonât break or damage hair but I avoid lots of heat and styling just because my hair is already damaged and dry, but when I do I always use products with extra protection. Regular hair cuts help too to prevent additional breakage at the bottom!

đ Donât you feel like such a little sneak when you get something from Octoly that you already regularly use?âŁ
âŁ
đ Thatâs how I felt when I saw the Amika Bust Your Brass Collection.âŁ
âŁ
đ Let me just say Iâve never met an Amika shampoo and conditioner I didnât like. All their shampoos and conditioners give me just the right amount of clean without drying my hair out, but they arenât so nourishing that I feel like my hair looks greasy the next day either. My waves are smooth and defined after washing just hands down my favorite shampoos and conditioners on the market. âŁ
âŁ
đ The Bust Your Brass shampoo and conditioner are tinted purple and give my ombrĂŠ hair a cool hue and beautiful shine. They contain nourishing ingredients such as keratin, wild cherry bark oil, and avocado oil to keep hair healthy.âŁ
âŁ
đ The Amika Supernova Blonde Shine Cream is absolutely incredible. I love this for controlling frizz, restoring shine, and defining my waves after I wash my hair. This contains sea buckthorn oil and amino acids for nourishing and protecting hair and increasing shine and is also tinted purple to give a cooler hue and cancel out any brassy tones.âŁ

đłWhy box dye is TERRIBLE for your hair
As some of you may know by now, I am a licensed cosmetologist. I see TONS of clients everyday and a large amount of my new clients are color corrections.
Whatâs a color correction? Wells color correction is usually a pricey service that a hairstylist does once your hair is compromised from box dye...or maybe you gave yourself a hOMBRĂ. Yeah I called you outđ
This service is so pricey because it can take HOURS to fix this situation. This haircolor, took FIVE hours. She had three layers of red box dye in her hair and about two inches of regrowth that was lighter than the red. Trust me I wanted to cry when I saw it. This is every hairstylists worst nightmare. A client wanting to be blonde but their red. Lol not gonna happen.
As you can see, thereâs still some red, thatâs where she really overlapped her box dyes. Box dyes are progressive dyes that really buildup on the hair. They have metallic salts that can build up and reeeaally dry out the hair....not fun. If I do a color correction over boxed hair I will seriously FORCE clients to get Olaplex added to the color and lightener. Itâs soo damaged just in general and itâll be worse after a huge chemical service like this one!
Use these to prevent any further damage

Ash me out
Have you really wanted to be a nice ash brown but it seems impossible to get to this color? Hereâs why:
Ash brown usually contains blues and purples to tone down yellow and orange pigments. The only way you can really get these tones to work and get extremely ashy is if you have a certain level of blonde, either prelightened or natural.
There are 10 levels of hair color:
⢠1- Black
⢠2-Darkest brown (the eye doesnât notice the difference between level 2 and level 1, so hairstylists just mix a level 1 and 3 together)
â˘3-Dark brown
â˘4- Medium Brown
â˘5-Light Brown
â˘6-Lightest brown
â˘7-Darkest Blonde
â˘8-Medium Blonde
â˘9-Light Blonde
â˘10- Lightest Blonde/Platinum
There are also underlying pigments ghat each level of color brings, so if you lighten your hair and wonder why you got red or orange, this is why. As well as 10 levels of color, the 10 undertones that come with them are:
â˘Black- has blue tones ALWAYS
â˘Darkest brown- Blue and Violet tones
â˘Dark Brown-Violet
â˘Medium brown-Red and Violet
â˘Light brown- Red and Orange
â˘Lightest brown- Orange and Red
â˘Darkest blonde-Orange
â˘Medium blonde- Yellow and Orange
â˘Light Blonde- Yellow
â˘Lightest blonde- Pale yellow
So now, knowing what colors turn certain tones when you lighten them to different levels, to get an ash brown you should probably be a level 8 and up! Levels with yellow tend to accept both blue and violet pigments and they turn to a beautiful âmushroom brownâ color! Itâs not easy to achieve but at least now you know the process in which us hairstylists should be working through with your haircolors(:
This client was just a simple toner over her platinum blonde hair because she wanted something to lighten up by the summer so she could lighten again with less damage!
Products used:
Olaplex shampoo OLAPLEX - No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo
Olaplex conditionerOLAPLEX - No.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner
She has extremely porous hair from lightening from level 1 to level 10 so this shampoo and conditioner really help save her from anymore damage

How To Add Volume To Straight Hair
Ladies, does your hair lack body? If itâs anything like mine, it will look great for an hour after I straighten it but then all of a sudden it will get flat. Adding more volume is a must for any girl with natural straight tresses, or for anyone who uses a hair straighter on the regular (like me). If you have fine hair, donât be jealous of the sky-high hairstyles you see in magazines, you can achieve it too!
My hair type:
I have very dry, naturally curly/wavy hair. Itâs a bit hard to manage and gets quite frizzy. I do straighten it often. When I straighten it, I notice that I lose a lot of my hairâs natural body. My #1 trick to combat flat hair is without a doubt dry shampoo! Plus, you can go longer between washes.
The products I canât live without:
Dry shampoo - Iâm obsessed with the Briogeo Scalp Revival dry shampoo. Itâs made with charcoal + biotin and leaves my hair feeling clean!
Hair oil - If you donât have dry hair, you can skip this step, but for my thirsty locks itâs essential. I use the Donât Despair, Repair strengthening treatment oil by Briogeo.
How to get volume step-by-step:
Step 1: Start with dry hair thatâs freshly brushed.
Step 2: Grab your dry shampoo and spray it at your roots.
Step 3: Gently rub your hands through your hair to work in the dry shampoo.
Step 4: Lightly brush your hair to remove any white residue.
Step 5: Finish with a styling oil for an impeccable shine!
Briogeo-Don't Despair, Repair! Strengthening Treatment Hair Oil
Wavy Hairspray: Yes to Movement, No to Crunch
Styling wavy hair can be tricky. My wavy hair is thick in volume yet fine in texture, going down to my mid-back, and it loves to frizz. To control this, hairspray is my best friend. But, not all hairspray was made equally- Iâve ended up with a veritable helmet of hair more than once. I love movement to keep my hair from looking flat, so I was an instant convert when I tried the amika: - Fluxus Touchable Hairspray đ
⢠Crunch? I spend money + time to keep my hair soft, so why would I dry it out with hairspray? Fluxus manages to avoid being overly drying, taming fly-always without coating hair in a stiff mess.
⢠Movement? Speaking of stiffness, thatâs what youâll be avoiding with Fluxus. My hair still moves in the breeze, easily combed through with my fingers. No helmet đđ˝
How I Style:
Iâm a minimalist, but I donât like being a puffball. So when Iâm not wearing my hair in a ponytail and ballcap, I typically stick to the tried-and-true! Wash and condition (or amika: - Perk Up Talc-Free Dry Shampoo and amika: - Silken Up Dry Conditioner ) followed by a wide-tooth comb detangling session. Briogeo - B. Well Organic + Cold-Pressed 100% Castor Oil applied to tips. Then, once everything has dried, I spray a liberal amount of Fluxus in my palm and smooth my hands over my hair. I repeat a couple times, focusing on my fly-aways and baby hairs, until everything is smoothed and settled. Fancy? No. Easy and effective? Yup!
