Emil_LWhat's your skintype? I have oily skin and I'm worried whether retinol would be too thick for me
Apr. 24, 2020·3 likes
keeeeegs27I have combo skin, the lower half of my face excluding my chin is pretty normal/dry. I’m oily through my t-zone particularly on my nose and around my mouth. I distribute the retinol around the perimeters of my face and work my way in that way I feel the thinnest is spread over those oily areas. I’d suggest just using a little less if you find it thick, although I find the ordinary one to be pretty spreadable. 👍🏻

Tour of what’s in my fridge
A skin care fridge is totally not a necessity but they are super fun to have. Things to consider before buying one is: does it fit in your budget, will it fit in your bathroom, what products will go in it?
I got mine from Amazon where they range from $60-$150 cad but you can get them from tons of places. The way I use mine is to keep products cold for the experience (de puffing) and to extend their shelf life.
Here’s a tour of what I currently keep in my skincare fridge.
The Ordinary - Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2%
This serum is great to keep cold as it ensures it is kept at a consistent temperature and in a dark place which helps with stability. The combination of ascorbic acid and alpha arbutin make for a great brightening and hyperpigmentation treatment.
THE BODY SHOP - British Rose Fresh Plumping Mask
This is a really nice hydrating and plumping face mask that gives a very spa like vibe.
The Ordinary - 100% Organic Cold Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil
I love to keep this oil cold as it increases the shelf life. This is a great hydrating oil that also helps acne and hyperpigmentation.
THE BODY SHOP - Chinese Ginseng & Rice Clarifying Polishing Mask
I love keeping this mask chilled as it helps depuff my face in the morning. This is a very nourishing mask that is also gently brightening.
pixi - DetoxifEYE
These are great cold as they really helps get rid of any puffiness from waking up. This pot holds 30 pairs which is great value from money.
VERSED - LOOK ALIVE Hydrating Plumping Mask
This is a great hydrating mask that really plumps my skin and helps when it is dehydrated. Keeping it cold makes the experience even more enjoyable.
LANEIGE - Cica Sleeping Mask
This is a creamy sleeping mask that highlights cica which is a very soothing ingredient. Applying it cold makes the soothing power even more effective.
LANEIGE - Lavender Water Sleeping Mask
This is a gel mask that feels great when applied cold as it feels very soothing. The lavender scent can also be very relaxing.
grace & stella - Rose quartz face roller
I love doing an evening massage, it feels amazing if the tool is kept cold. It helps with lymphatic drainage and product absorption.
👜Sheet masks ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I love to keep all my sheet masks in the fridge as the experience of a chilled mask is very enjoyable.

Must have!!!
I’ve been wanting to try something from Blume for a while now- and this did not disappoint!! I absolutely am in love with this product. My acne has been pretty bad lately, around my chin and jawline. So, I’ve been looking for some new acne products to integrate into my routine. This does the job!!! I apply this oil at the end of my entire night routine (after moisturizer). And I focus putting it on areas where acne is at that time. Over night, it dries them up completely! If they’re little to begin with, they make them disappear. But, if they’re big, it dries them up and then they are gone within a another day/couple days of use. When I wake up my skin is still glowing and moisturized. If you don’t like an oily feeling in the morning, it may bother you, but it just washes off then! I definitely recommend this🤍🤍🤍🤍BLUME - Meltdown Oil for Acne-Prone Skin

Say bye to Acne!
I often deal with hormonal and random breakouts primarily on my forehead, nose and sometimes chin.
I have tried so many products over the years to help get rid of acne and these 3 are THE BEST OF THE BEST.
The PETER THOMAS ROTH - AHA/BHA Acne Clearing Gel I love applying all over my face right after cleansing and right before moisturizing. It’s a perfect mix of salicylic acid and glycolic acid. It gets rid of redness and dramatically gets rid of the bump of a pimple.
The ROSEN SKINCARE - Break-Out is a perfect treatment to put on top right before bed, it has amazing ingredients and doesn’t dry out your skin. The pimple does flatten by the next morning and it’s almost ready to pop!
I absolutely love the BLUME - Meltdown Oil for Acne-Prone Skin it’s perfect to mix into your moisturizer or just tap on top of a pimple. The next morning you won’t even remember you had a pimple. TRUST.

Hello & Any Advice? 🤍
Hi Y’all 🤍 This is my first post and I’ve been waiting to do this for awhile...
⭐️ I’m Maeve-Darly and I have Oily, Acne-Prone Skin. My main concerns are dark spots, hyperpigmentation, oil control, and pore size.
⭐️Currently, my morning routine consists of the products listed on the second page. I have bought a ton of products from the ordinary and had to make the choice to limit my products and keep my routine simple. I’m looking for a good toner if anyone has any recommendations and a good Vitamin C serum/product to add to my morning routine, as well!
⭐️Also, my night routine consists of the products listed on the third page. Again, I’m looking for a toner to add to my routine. Something that can brighten but I’m not really interested in a AHA/BHA exfoliating toner as I’ve heard that paired with Niacinamide on darker complexions it can have the reverse effect of brightening and clearing up hyper pigmentation. I’ve been using the mask from the Ordinary once a week on Fridays and it leaves my skin soft.
⭐️ I didn’t include this but I also occasionally use the innisfree - Super Volcanic Clusters Pore Clearing Clay Mask in the mornings or nights when I feel I need it. It definitely does give my skin an open and clear feelings sometimes in my morning use but I don’t know if it’s really doing something or if my expectations are just too high.
⭐️If anyone has any suggestions for a good brightening and non-drying toner and/or a Vitamin C serum, please let me know in the comments? Also, do other oily acne-prone folks have any thoughts on the CeraVe products mentioned? I’d love to hear y’all’s thoughts! Thank you so much 🤍

𝙄 𝙆𝙉𝙊𝙒 𝙒𝙃𝘼𝙏 𝙔𝙊𝙐’𝙍𝙀 𝙏𝙃𝙄𝙉𝙆𝙄𝙉𝙂: Honey, it’s been a long quarantine year, but it most definitely ain’t April. True, but with a good skincare routine, your skin can defy the seasons and bloom like a flower in April. APRILSKIN promises: High performance gentle skin solutions. Is it true?
Well the first good thing I can say about both: i did not break out and I did not experience any irritation on my skin using either.

APRILSKIN - Real Calendula Peel Off Pack
𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙂𝙊𝙊𝘿:
🌼Product goes on clear with dissolving calendula petals
🌼Product dries in 20-30 minutes
🌼 Extracted from 100% real Calendula Flower Petals
🌼 Orange Peel Oil clears up acne, reduces puffiness and redness (plus pore size)
🌼 Goes on smooth with the Aprilskin Jelly Brush
🌼 A lot more gentle than the average peel off mask
𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝘽𝘼𝘿:
⚡️The smell is the opposite of enticing: it’s strong and smells similar to alcohol (fades once it dries)
⚡️It feels tight after it dries
⚡️ Dry skin? This will only make it more dry
⚡️ It only appears to take off surface oil and dirt, not going deep enough though it claims to penetrate (my skin does feel clean afterwards though)
APRILSKIN - Real Carrot Blemish Clear Serum
𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙂𝙊𝙊𝘿:
🥕 non-commodigenic!
🥕It brightened and soothes my skin
🥕 It sinks into my skin pretty fast about 3minutes
🥕Contains Hyaluranic Acid and Niacinimade
🥕Faded some of my Hyperpigmentation and acne scars
🥕glides on like silk
🥕Helps with Milia
𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝘽𝘼𝘿:
⚡️The smell again... not bad but kind of like organic soil in the garden section
⚡️The texture is light, slide-y with a milky white color but before settling has a sticky kind of residue
⚡️ Says that it soothes but contains some essential oil ingredients that could cause irritation
**I am happily on my second bottle of calendula peel off mask but I more than likely will not be buying another bottle of carrot serum

My acne holy grail
I’ve been using these for about a month or so and I LOVE them! I still have acne but it is significantly reduced and my acne hyperpigmentation has gone down quite noticeably.
Curology - Curology formula Mine has 4% niacinamide, 1% clindamycin, and .25% zinc pyrithione. It did dry me out a little bit and I flaked a little on my cheeks. I did not purge which was great! I gave it 4 stars because I’ve only been using it for a little over 3 weeks and I feel it’s too soon to fully give it 5 stars considering I (understandably) still have acne.
DIFFERIN - DIFFERIN Acne Treatment Gel This gave me significant drying and took a couple weeks to adjust to. But I noticed a difference in literal days!! I’ve been using it for almost 5 weeks now and love it! Also didn’t purge with it. And I’m giving it 4 stars for the same reason as curology.
The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% this is an incredible product!! I have such oily skin and this really controls it. The only reason it’s getting 4 stars is because if I miss even one day the oiliness comes back fast and hard. The only reason I skip it sometimes is if my skin is extra dry, but I’ve started just applying less on those days because otherwise I’ll wake up VERY oily. I only use it in the AM because my curology has niacinamide in it for the PM.
The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution my absolute FAVE product ever. It stings a little bit but my skin was used to acids so I think that’s why it isn’t painful to me. I use it about every 10 days or so because I feel my skin is still adjusting to the differin and curology. I’ve had it for maybe 2 months now? And it’s made my hyperpigmentation much much lighter and smaller.

My Holy Grail for Adult & Hormonal Acne
I’m super excited to start recording and sharing my skin care journey. I’ve loved skincare since my teens and have always enjoyed trying new products, but being acne prone and having sensitive skin, trying new stuff hasn’t always been super thrilling! Now that I’m learning more about some great brands (that sadly weren’t around when I was a teen) I’m excited to branch out and try some more that will work for my skin.
I have combination and sensitive skin that really changes with the weather. It’s really dry where I live, so even though my skin is prone to oiliness, it often has dry patches and even damage from the dry, winter air.
One problem I’ve been having for the past year or two is adult hormonal acne around my jawline. Spot treatments were effective for pimples with a head, but I could not get rid of the bumps that started forming under my skin along my jaw. Not only were they not going away, but more were appearing.
Then came The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% I’m not going to lie, I didn’t understand how to use this at first. I thought it was for pimples and it would get rid of my breakouts. I tried it a couple times and felt like it didn’t do anything and there it sat on my shelf for months.
But one day, when I was at a total loss with these bumps under my skin, I decided to spread some of this serum all over my jawline before bed.
The next morning, 75% of the bumps were gone! My skin was so irritated and it felt like this product was some magic eraser for this freaked out areas of my skin.
I’ve since learned a bit more about what Niacinimide and Zinc is supposed to do — like calming irritation and reducing dark spots — and I am totally in love with this product.
I now use this product AM and PM under my moisturizer, focusing on areas that have more irritation and dark red areas leftover from pimples.
I’m interested in trying other Niacinimide serums, like the one from The Inkey List, but it’s likely I will keep buying this great product for a long time.
The Ordinary-Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
For clear skin even if you’re sensitive!
a.My skin type is combination, often with hormonal acne during parts of the month. I generally have pretty balanced skin!
b.This product includes 10% Lactic Acid – which is an AHA exfoliator that gently penetrates the skin to clean out pores and renew skin. Lactic acid is one of the gentlest acids so it’s great for beginners or anyone who has more sensitive or reactive skin. This serum also includes hyaluronic acid to deeply hydrate the skin and provide extra moisture as the Lactic acid exfoliates.
c.The texture can tend to pill up a little which is one of the few cons of this product. It has a thick viscous feeling on the skin, but most of the time I find it sinks in well as long as you use the appropriate amount. The packaging is a classic Ordinary glass bottle, which makes it recyclable. The size of the product is also great and has lasted me a long time since you only need a few drops for full effectiveness.
d.I use this product 2-3 times a week – first I wash my face, then apply toner and let it absorb completely. After that, I take a few drops of the acid into my palms and gently tap it into my skin until it’s completely absorbed. After that, I follow with a hydrating moisturizer and oil! In the morning, I’m super diligent about applying SPF! My skin overall really loves lactic acid so with consistent usage, I get less breakouts, more even skin, and generally a more even texture with reduced forehead bumps!
e.I would 100% recommend this product to a friend, and honestly give it 5 stars! the only thing that I don’t love is that the formula can be a bit tacky sometimes depending on the toner that I apply underneath it, but it’s just so affordable and effective that I’m willing to overlook that! The Ordinary - Lactic Acid 10% + HA

How niacinamide works:
✨Skin friendly - every skin type can use it
✅Best for acne-prone skin, oily skin, dry skin, combination skin, sensitive skin
🧪Works by inhibiting oil production skin which is beneficial for acne-prone and oily skin types. As a cream or serum, it’s non-irritating and very tolerable compared to other skin treatments. This makes it favorable for people with dry or sensitive skin.
✨Anti-inflammatory - skin calming
✅Best for - treating inflammatory acne, acne rosacea, skin redness
🧪Works to inhibit inflammatory pathway elements within the body. This subsequently prevents migration of products involved in inflammation to the skin! As a result, skin becomes less inflamed and irritated.
✨Brightening - a miracle dark mark corrector
✅Best for - dark marks, post-acne hyperpigmentation, dull complexion
🧪Works to inhibit the transfer of skin's light absorbing pigment, melanin, into the outer layers of the skin. This leads to an overall faded appearance of spots.
✨Anti- Aging - treatment and prevention
✅Best for fine lines, sallow skin, wrinkles
🧪Works by supplementing antioxidants that fight against skin’s free radicals associated with aging and photoaging (skin aging due to sun/UV exposure.)
🧪Works by preventing deposits of cellular components in skin cells that make skin stiff and rigid during photoaging. The appearance of creases and wrinkles become reduced.
✨Completion correcting - smoother texture and complexion
✅Best for uneven skin texture and tone
🧪Works by supplementing an antioxidant that promotes healthy skin cell growth. Skin becomes renewed and vibrant.
🧪Works by increasing the production of ceramides which maintain skin’s barrier. Skin looks moisturized and softer.
Overall, niacinamide is a safe, versatile product and fabulous addition to a daily skincare regimen.
PAULA'S CHOICE-10% Niacinamide Booster
The goat of skincare
This is the # 1 product in my skin care arsenal. I’m on my second bottle which is unheard of! I rarely ever repurchase a product. I use this every morning and it has been the only thing that has kept my acne at bay. It also helps with clearing up past acne scars and brightens up your face with a nice glow. The anti aging part is also an added bonus!
