Exfoliating 101

What's exfoliating? Why should you do it? How should you do it? If these are questions you have you're in the right place! Exfoliating is removing the top level of skin cells. It can be done physically or chemically, and will brighten the skin, smooth texture and can help to treat acne and wrinkles. For my combination, oily skin I like to use both physical and chemical exfoliants. I use chemical exfoliants daily in the form of exfoliating toners, and use a physical exfoliant once a week to give my skin a reset. Exfoliating helps me to address breakouts and hyperpigmentation! By speeding up the cell renewal rate I'm able to lighten dark spots faster. Exfoliating is important, but for those with sensitive skin it can quickly lead to a compromised skin barrier! My skin can tolerate daily, gentle exfoliating but not all skin will react the same! If you have more sensitive skin an enzyme exfoliant will be a bit gentler than an acid bases one! Here are some of my favorites: Physical

🎖 RANKINGS: Cleansers
Cleansers are the building blocks of a solid routine! They should be effective without stripping the skin of essential oils. There's different types of cleanser - first cleanses or second cleanses, foaming and cream cleanses. The list goes on. So what cleansers work for my combo, oily skin that's prone to breakouts? Here's my rankings: 1. KOSMETIC IMMUNITY - Enzyme Cleansing Powder is my favorite because I can use it morning and night, it's effective and gentle, and light exfoliates. It's also a powder so it's perfect for traveling. It foams when water is added, creating a creamy lather. I think it will work for all skin types since it's so gentle, but also adds hydration back into the skin! 2. iS CLINICAL - Cleansing Complex is next on my list because it's a great gel cleanser! It exfoliates, breakups oils and boosts cell turnover. It also heals skin damage and has a light lather. I use this especially when my skin is breaking out and I find it super soothing! A tiny drop is all you need so the bottle will last me a very long time. It's not stripping, but doesn't leave my skin as hydrated as the Enyzme Powder Cleanser. 3. iS CLINICAL - Warming Honey Cleanser is last on my list solely because I've gone through it so quickly! It's a balm cleanser that smells like honey. It's perfect for blemish-prone skin and helps to balance and refine it! It doesn't foam or lather, but speads like honey and is such a beautiful experience to apply. It can be used as a mask as well! I haven't noticed any warming affect when I've used this. Overall, each cleanser has a place in my routine! I love using them all and will continue to purchase them, but if I had to choose one it would be the Enzyme Cleansing Powder.

GAME CHANGER...
Urban SkinRX has change my life.. As you can see the before and after photos are bananas. My daily makeup consists of only my eyebrows. I've come a long way as you can see. It took me about 4 months to get these results. Dont get me wrong I change my products depending on what my skin needs and the season... but these group of products have given me a more even and radiant complexion. Skin type: Extremely Oily, Acne prone. Remember when starting a new routine the skin must purge all the oil, dead skin, and all the nasty stuff deep undeunderneath the skin.

Ingredient Spotlight: Acids
So acids are one of my favorite ingredients in skincare products, they help to solve multiple skin concerns I have! Acids exfoliate the top layer of your skin leaving behind glowing, balanced and happy skin! But they should be used carefully because they can be super strong. My favorite way to incorporate acids is in a face mask. That way I don't over do it and can be sure I'm not mixing acids with any ingredients that they don't play well with. Here are two of my favorite masks that include acids: URBAN SKIN Rx - Even Tone Smooth & Glow Enzyme Mask uses a combination of glycolic acid, lactic acid and fruit enzymes to fade dark marks, resurface the skin, and reduce fine lines. This tingles when applied, is a serum texture and dries down. It also includes vitamin c which gives it an extra brightening boost! I use this once a week and love the results. GLAMGLOW - FLASHMUD Brightening Treatment Mask contains salicylic acid and lactic acid, and also has vitamin C! I use this when I really need to brighten dark spots. I use it three days in a row and can really see a difference in the intensity of dark spots. After using an acid packed mask I focus on hydration and being sure to use products that will strengthen my skins barrier, and leave the harsher ingredients out of my routine for the night. The Bejbiskin products are perfect for following up any type of acid products!

Brand Review: bejbiskin
When I first saw bejbiskin on Instagram I was really intrigued by the name. How was it pronounced? Why Did they choose that name? Well it's pronounced baby and according to the brand it's not because they want to help consumers strive for younger looking skin, but instead to encourage awareness of what you put onto your skin and to pamper is with evidence-based skincare. I love the idea that it isn't this unachievable younger looking skin that we should be after, but that the ingredients we put on our skin is what really matters. They don't use fillers or sensitizing ingredients, like essential oils. Their products are free from alcohol, fragrance, witch hazel, rose water and any other ingredients that can irritate the skin. All ingredients that are used and listed are only used at an effective level. Let's break down the products: bejbiskin - After Acid Serum is a thick cream serum made up of fatty acids, plant oils, niacinamide, and ceramides. It is supposed to protect your barrier from exfoliants and acids. I use this in conjunction with my prescription retinoid and have zero irritation. It's a bit thicker than I like and feels heavier than I'm used to, but I love the way my skin looks in the morning after using this. It retails for $31. bejbiskin - Barrier Balm is similar to the After Acid Serum in that it's chock full of nourishing plant oils and antioxidants, but unlike the serum is also has emollients to make it a thick balm. It sinks into the skin, leaving it hyrdated and dewy but not greasy! It's the perfect moisturizer for healthy, glowing skin! It retails for $35. bejbiskin - Light Liquid Exfoliant is a 5% AHA 1% BHA blend that will unclog pores and improve skin tone, without over exfoliating. It also has skin soothers like aloe and green tea extract. It's very gentle and perfect for anyone that exfoliates daily! I like to alternate this with a higher percentage exfoliant daily. It retails for $29.

Broke out my face terribly 😰
List of exfoliating products I tried in the past- that really broke me out and left acne scars for a while on my face. 🤭😓 These pictures are not my own- as those products were tossed out or returned ASAP. 1. BIOLOGIQUE RECHERCHE - Lotion P50 - a patient of mine recommended this to me as “Jesus in the bottle.” I read many raving reviews and online posts about this product. I continued to use it for many months. I started implementing 1x a week and increased it to maybe 2x after a while. I had my husband use this with me- as I told him all the great reviews about this!! My skin was breaking out in places like never before. I was thinking it was purging, and didn’t want to stop. My husband started looking like a teenager boy with acne everywhere! We both stopped after a couple of months, and realized it was this product. I’m more educated these days about skin care, and I would never again keep using a product for this long. Unfortunately I kept using it and using it- thinking my skin would be flawless soon. 😂 2. DRUNK ELEPHANT - T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Resurfacing Night Serum this was another exfoliating product I tried about a year ago. I started off using slowly, 1x a week as I learned my lesson from Lotion P50. I got really bad acne on my cheeks. They were super painful and took forever to go away. It left me with scars for a while. My cheeks have not been breaking out since I was a teenager. The Sephora associate mentioned that my skin might be “purging”. I returned this and never looked back. 3. CLINIQUE - CLINIQUE Exfoliating Scrub - too drying for face! It gave me bumps on my forehead and pimples on my chin. It’s possible that my skin is too sensitive for these type of exfoliations!! I wanted to implement them to have the perfect routine, and exfoliate my skin as well. I find my skin looks clear when I do not use any exfoliants. Has anyone else experienced this? Any gentler options to try? Or should I give up on exfoliants 🤷‍♀️🤣

Skin Journey part 2
Hi! Its me again 😄 After about 1 month using BIOLOGIQUE RECHERCHE - Lotion P50 my skin has significantly improved. Technically, my skin has alot of dark spots but the camera and machine can’t show detail about it! I can feel my skin alot more smoothly, brighter. Acne is my number one problem but I dont think too much about it recently. Sometimes is can have 2 or 3 pimple but it become hard very quick and I can easy pop it out. I’m using CeraVe - Foaming Facial Cleanser For Normal To Oily Skin day and night. Its perfect for my skin, dont dry my skin after I use it. CeraVe - Daily Moisturizing Lotion For Normal To Dry Skin for moisturizer. Its ok for oily skin cuz not too thick and dry very quick on my skin but in the winter will me not enough for me. I use BIOLOGIQUE RECHERCHE - Creme Contour des Yeux VIP O2 for eye cream. And lets me tell you Its amazingggggg. Trust me when I say that. With me I can see my eyebag disappear after 1 month even though I did not change my sleeping cycle 💗 I love it! I still try to find the serum for my dark spots. If u know any of them with affordable price PLEASE tell me. I live in Australia so please help. Some products they sell in US or EU but not AUS so I still try to find the one. Thank you for reading! 🌸💗😘

Youth to the People dreams ☁️🌈
Me: DRY skin in winter (combo in summer), very sensitive/reactive/allergic, currently acne prone, also have a nose that is very picky about scents Onto my next bunch of brand minis, I tried the YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - With Pride Minis Kit Overall excellent kit for the price, all good products worth trying, and generously sized minis! Least Favorite: YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Yerba Mate Resurfacing Energy Facial This one was just kind of anticlimactic for me. It smelled nice, it worked fine, it didn’t bother my skin, but I also didnt see much of a difference? Overall good physical exfoliator, but maybe physical exfoliators just arent for me. The next physical exfoliant I’m trying is the GOOD MOLECULES - Pineapple Exfoliating Powder Second Place: YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superfood Antioxidant Cleanser I liked this cleanser. As a dry skin person I was SURE this would be too stripping, but actually it wasnt too bad! I am definitely more of a creamy cleanser person, but I can see myself loving this in summer. I like the ingredients, and i like the green juice smell. Overall ~4.5 stars. My next “green juice” cleanser to try is the Krave - Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser The Absolute Best 😍😍😍: YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superberry Hydrate + Glow Dream Mask literally a dream. Hydrated and glowy and smooth and so much more. I’m realizing that it is quite hard to get both hydrated AND glowing. This smells delicious and makes my face feel like a baby’s butt in the morning. Absolutely 10 stars all around. I’m trying out another vitamin c sleeping mask (KORRES - Wild Rose Vitamin C Brightening Sleeping Facial) but honestly, I dont even know why because i should just take the plunge and buy the jumbo size of this dream mask ☁️🌈 How do you feel about YTTP? I’m curious to try the moisturizers. I love the green smell but I’m guessing the superfood air whip moisturizer will be too light for me. Any dry folks who have tried both? Also need to try the superberry oil, especially if it smells like the mask! Also, which of their two eye creams would you recommend trying? Leave it in the comments!

Battle of the Exfoliants
In one corner we have the NEW OLE HENRIKSEN - Lemonade Smoothing Scrub This is both a physical AND chemical exfoliant that uses lemon beads and AHA. It smells like artificial lemonade and when squeezed out it has a slightly gritty texture that doesn’t lather when mixed with water. After using this a few times, these are my takeaways: - DO A PATCH TEST!! I did two patch tests. The first one didn’t leave any irritation, but for the second one, I unintentionally left it on the back of my hand for about 5mins (more than they suggest if you use it as a mask) and started to feel a warm sensation that lasted a few minutes after washing it off. It’s important to read your product directions and follow them! - BE WARY OF YOUR SENSITIVE AREAS! My cheeks are more sensitive than the rest of my face, so I’m going to focus on applying this wash to my forehead more often than not. -RESULTS, BABY! I haven’t been using my tretnoin topical for a few days and usually I can rely on it to get rid of dark marks left by acne. This exfoliant steppes in and helped smooth my forehead and lighten the dark mark left by a recently popped pimple. It also stays true to its AHA ingredient by not drying out my skin too much (don’t over use this one or you’ll probably notice dryness. I suggest 2 times a week max). Plus, this was so easy to wash off. And in the other, we have YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Yerba Mate Resurfacing Energy Facial I thought this was the best exfoliant I had until Olehenriksen steppes in, but these are my thoughts: - A LIL’ AGGRESSIVE. It will definitely exfoliate too much of you aren’t gentle. This is a physical exfoliant that relies on enzymes and your physical force. It’s always left my face feeling clean, but applying too much pressure will leave your akin feeling raw -NO ARTIFICIAL SCENT. This gives you an earthy smell and if your nervous about using something with a fragrance to it, try this one. -RESULTS: While it’s left my face feeling clean and I saw some results with getting rid of the flaking akin on my forehead, it didn’t perform the way the aforementioned exfoliant. It’s also a task to ensure all the granules are washed off, so that can be annoying, but it’s a cool physical exfoliant to have in rotation.

Cystic Acne - my journey to clear skin
Cystic Acne - my journey to clear skin
During this quarantine time, stress has been high, my hormones have been a mess and everything has been reflected on my skin. I always struggled with acne with having very oily skin and guiltily touching my face (a lot!). A method that worked in my teen years was drugstore products (Oxy Acne Medication-namely the acne pads and the rapid spot treatment cream) in combination with the pill - but that pill got discontinued and since then there has been a constant battle between my skin and acne. Eventually, the drugstore products did not have any effects on my skin. My main problems are cystic acne and the deep scarring it leaves. I have searched over and over what to do to ‘cure’ cystic acne. The answers ranged from changing your diet completely to taking Accutane to eliminating stress. The only products I have tried that are making my skin feel much better are the Ole Henriksen products. I start my morning routine with the OLE HENRIKSEN - Find Your Balance Oil Control Cleanser This has significantly reduced the oil on my skin and visibly reduce my pores with its AHAs. I follow up with the OLE HENRIKSEN - Balancing Force Oil Control Toner This toner helps balance my skin with its BHA and AHAs properties. Once this is done I go in with the OLE HENRIKSEN - Truth Serum which is my daily dose of Vitamin C and collagen. I then add OLE HENRIKSEN - C-Rush Brightening Double Crème and OLE HENRIKSEN - Banana Bright Eye Crème I end my morning routine with VICHY - Idéal Soleil Ultra-Light Face Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50 It’s a very light sunscreen that can sometimes leave a white sheen. This is important due to the sun sensitivity caused by the AHAs. For my night time routine I wash my face using a silicone pore refiner in addition to Spectro Sensitive Skin care cleanser. Before going to bed, I put on the OLE HENRIKSEN - Invigorating Night Transformation Gel on my face and neck which has helped tremendously in smoothing skin texture and evening tone. I then moisturize using the OLE HENRIKSEN - Sheer Transformation Perfecting Moisturizer It’s light and has a gel like consistency. Finally I add my eye cream Kiehl's - Creamy Eye Treatment With Avocado Once or twice (if I have time) a week I also do a clay mask from origins which has left my skin soft and clean. ORIGINS - Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask to Clear Pores When I feel myself breaking out I will use Nexcare Acne Absorbing Covers which are basically round stickers (2 sizes - small and medium) that will absorb the sebum from the blemish. It’s also a great way to limit the bacteria coming in contact with the blemish and you also avoid touching it. My skin is still far from fully recovering from cystic acne and these steps might not work for everyone, but for now I’m trying different things and seeing where this will go.

EXFOLIATE 101: Chemical vs. Physical
EXFOLIATE 101: Chemical vs. Physical
🌊 everyone loves to exfoliate! the process of removing dead and old skin cells to reveal new skin is as old as time. exfoliation reduces scarring, wrinkles, and dull skin, for a smooth, bright complexion 🌊 what’s the difference? Chemical Exfoliation uses alpha hydroxy acids to loosen and dissolve the skin glue between skin cells, allowing them to be swept away. Imagine adding olive oil to pasta to keep it from sticking together, and then taking away the dry noodles. Kate Somerville - ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment very intensive chemical exfoliation, not for those with sensitive skin. Also has a physical component HERBIVORE - Prism 20% AHA + 5% BHA Exfoliating Glow Facial Good for those with sensitive/dry skin! Very mild, little stinging! I use this a lot and I am oily-acne probe Physical Exfoliation uses little microbeads or a scrubby brush to to physically push dead skin cells away. Imagine sweeping a broom across your face. Don’t abuse your skin, scrubbing til you’re red is NOT the answer! philosophy - The Microdelivery Exfoliating Facial Wash this is a mild exfoliation that feels SO good and isn’t harsh on skin. Dont overscrub! 🌊 Which one is for Me? This really depends on your skin type! Oily-Acne Prone: chemical — scrubbing active spots can cause more acne Oily/Combo: chemical or physical your skin can benefit from both types Sensitive: mild chemical or mild physical — don’t scrub your sensitive skin to death Dry: chemical — use something MILD with hydration ingredients. physical may be too harsh for you and dry you out more Normal: chemical or physical — both work

Products for acne prone skin!
Products for acne prone skin!
🌻My skin type/concerns- I have very dry skin in the winter and a normal skin type during the summer! Occasionally I will get bad acne throughout the year, I also have bad redness and hyperpigmentation, and pores! 🌻this review is for products I have tried to reduce my acne! ✅worked ❌didn’t work 🌻Product list: ✅Murad acne cleanser- I discovered this cleanser about 8 months ago and fell in love! I love using this cleanser in the morning and night because it does a great job at clearing my acne and getting rid of my hyperpigmentation! it is amazing at reducing the acne I get on my skin! I see a huge difference from before and after I use this! It’s amazing ingredients is everything that helps with my acne! ✅drunk elephant c firma serum- I discovered this serum from a friend recommending this to me after trying it and telling me how much it helped clear her acne prone skin ! I have been using this for about 6 months! I always use this at night and morning because I know when I wake up my acne looks super reduced and my skin is very soothed for when I start the day! I always use this first in my skin care routine! The amazing ingredients help so much with my acne! ✅Kate Somerville exfoliating treatment- I saw this all over social media when it came out, and when I saw some reviews for it I knew it would be perfect for my skin and I immediately bought it! I have been using this for about 6 months! I also only use this at night and whenever I use it before bed I see the biggest difference in my acne when I wake up! I use this right after I cleanse my face! The very thick consistency of this is super helpful before going to bed because I know I will wake up with super moisturized skin and my acne will be gone! ❌indie lee cleanser- I found this cleanser from a family member recommending it to me, and saying how much it helped with her acne! I saw the pricy price tag but I still went for it! I used it for a couple months of the summer, and it was perfect for my summer skin type! This has not really helped my acne, it is a great product for my dry skin, but it did not help my acne! I saw no difference when I used this at night and when I would wake up nothing changed! I used this right before using toner!Murad - Clarifying Cleanser DRUNK ELEPHANT - C-Firma Vitamin C Day Serum Kate Somerville - ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment INDIE LEE - Purifying Face Wash

There are a lot of great korean products in the market, that benefit the skin. I personally began using korean products 3 years ago and since then I have been incorporating more korean products in my skincare regimen. Some korean products that use minimum ingredients which my skin loves; I was not able to choose my favorite korean products but, here are my top 3: I have been using COSRX - Low PH Good Morning Gel Cleanser (purchased) for almost 6 months now. I use this cleanser every morning to wash away any impurities my skin picked up while asleep. This cleanser is gentle to my skin and it does not strip out the good oils in our skin; in fact it is very hydrating (I think my skin is greatful for this cleanser). This cleanser does not foam as much which is great for a morning cleanser and it is lightweight. This products is Cruelty-Free and vegan. I recommend this product to every skin type or if you are looking for a gentle morning cleanser. For a 5.07oz - $12 It°S SKIN - Tiger Cica Calming Serum was given to me as a gratis. I have been using this for 5 months but, I only use this when I have troubled skin. This serum contains 74% of Centella Asiatica (CICA) which has antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, and healing properties. This serum moisturizes and soothes-irritated skin. The texture of this is almost water like; lightweight and fast absorbing. I use this serum after my toner or sometimes I use it right after my cleanser. I really like that my skin feels refreshed and smooth after using the serum. I recommend this serum to sensitive and acne prone skin because of the soothing CICA For a 80ml - $30 Not to long ago I purchased the Huxley - Sleep Mask; Good Night and it was the best thing I have purchased so far. This sleeping mask hydrates, soothes, and repairs dull skin. This contains prickly pear cactus extract which is full of antioxidants, vitamin E, and linoleic acid. I have been using this overnight for almost a month now and every morning I wake up my skin looks and feels glowy and replenished. I like that this a non-sticky gel formula mask and it is fast absorbent to the skin. I recommend this to all skin types and if your concern is dull skin I high recommend it. For a 4.23oz- $28

I got most of these babies fro
I got most of these babies from a Sephora Favorites set a while ago but haven't tried everything yet. I decided to finally try the Skin Laundry cleanser last night followed by the Drunk Elephant Sukari Babyfacial (on spots only) and the Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil which felt really good surprisingly! Keep reading if you wanna know my first impressions 💜 . 🍡 The cleanser from Skin Laundry is a clear gel with a nice fresh scent that bubbled easily. Left my skin very soft and smooth, and not dry at all! This combo of nice scent + lathers + non-stripping is what I look for in a (second) cleanser first and foremost and this one passed with flying colors 🙃 But I won't be purchasing the full size yet as I have too many cleansers atm haha, I'm sure a lot of you can relate 😆 . 🍡 The Drunk Elephant TLC Sukari Babyfacial has 25% AHA and 2% BHA which is a little intimidating to me 😂 so I used it on my pimples only for the first time. It stinged a little stronger on broken skin (where I had popped a pimple) but nothing too painful. I let it sit for 20 minutes and washed off, after which my breakouts were a little less inflamed, with the big whitehead on my temple flatter! 😆 Not a huge difference, but I definitely need to try it all over my face next time to hopefully see results in appearance of pores. . 🍡 The Drunkelephant Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil was an amazing surprise in how it made my skin feel! It wasn't oily at all for me but super soothing, nourishing and moisturizing, kinda like a rich serum? Not heavy, suffocating, or with a greasy film that some oil products can feel. Scentless like the Sukari. Just wish the sample was bigger! The pump is just so tiny 😭 . OTHER PRODUCTS: 💛 sol de janeiro Bum Bum cream (already repurchased the bigger size!! Smells soooo good and it's really moisturizing for everyday) 💚 tata harper skincare Restorative Moisturizer (felt nice on the skin but sadly I can't stand the smell!! Idk what it smells like but ugh, nope 😷) 💙 herbivore botanicals Blue Tansy Resurfacing Clarity Mask (Made my skin brighter and calmer; love the herbal scent!)
