Top Tips for Treating Hyperpigmentation!

avatar
kali.janel
I have combination, oily skin that is prone to breakouts, the breakouts lead to hyperpigmentation which is my biggest skin concern. I've been dealing with hyperpigmentation for what seems like forever and have learned some important tips when it comes to it! Tip #1: Use SPF religiously! For anyone dealing with hyperpigmentation this is the most important tip because the sun's UV rays can cause pigmentation to darken. SPF is also essential because many treatments for hyperpigmentation, like acids, can cause the skin to be even more sensitive to the sun. My top SPFs are: elta md SKINCARE - UV Clear Broad Spectrum SPF 46
Supergoop! - 100% Mineral Smooth & Poreless Matte Screen SPF 40
SKINCEUTICALS - Physical Fusion Uv Defense SPF 50
Tip #2: Use Vitamin C in your routine! Vitamin C is an antioxidant that lightens dark spots, it also contains an enzyme that helps to prevent melanin production - effectively preventing hyperpigmentation! My Vitamin C products are: SKINCEUTICALS - Phloretin Cf
FARMACY - Very Cherry Bright 15% Clean Vitamin C Serum with Acerola Cherry
URBAN SKIN Rx - Even Tone Smooth & Glow Enzyme Mask
Tip #3: Niacinamide is a powerhouse at fighting pigmentation! Similar to vitamin C, niacinamide fights and prevents hyperpigmentation. It also helps to treat acne which for many of us is the main cause of our hyperpigmentation! My favorite products with niacinamide are: PETER THOMAS ROTH - Pro Strength Niacinamide Discoloration Treatment
THE inkey LIST - Niacinamide Oil Control Serum
Tip #4: Add a retinoid to your routine! Retinoids speed up the cell turnover rate, which for pigmentation means it helps to fade dark spots faster. I use a tretinoin, which is a prescription you can get from your dermatologist, but there are other great options like retinol! Here are my favorite retinol products: SKINCEUTICALS - Retinol 0.5 Retinol Night Cream
DIFFERIN - DIFFERIN Acne Treatment Gel
Additional Tips:
Acid is your friend, but don't overdo it!
Protect your moisture barrier! Healthy skin will heal the fastest!
If your breakouts are hormonal, you may need to do some research into your diet! I've cut dairy and eggs because my body doesn't tolerate them and they were leading to hormonal breakouts.

I live where the sun shines virtually every day! Therefore, my routine is photo protective. From my morning Vitamin C + antioxidant serums, to my evening gentle acid exfoliants, I have built my skincare routine around anti-aging preventatives. I recently began working topical retinol at low % into my routine and get monthly Y:ag laser facials to stimulate and encourage collagen production. I’m about to turn 26, and I am very lucky to have plenty of collagen and few wrinkles. I spent a lot of my early 20s breaking the cardinal rules of anti-aging including smoking cigarettes (I’ve been nicotine free for over a year now!) and skipping SPF most days. I even had a brief bout of tanning booth addiction 😟 Now I use spf products as a daily routine. I was committed to Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 until a girl at Ulta recommended StriVectin - Full Screen SPF 30 Clear Finish which has a lower SPF and similar consistency as Unseen. I’ve also tried the Supergoop! - 100% Mineral Smooth & Poreless Matte Screen SPF 40AND Supergoop! - Glowscreen Sunscreen SPF 40, neither of which I was really crazy about. The gel/primer consistency of both Unseen Sunscreen and the Strivectin spf are more conducive to my skincare routine and they both sink into my skin without leaving a greasy feeling. Now that I have an office job and wfh, I’m spending about 10 hours/day staring at two huge computer monitors, so I think I’ll stick with the Strivectin screen that also includes Vitamins A, B, C, and Pro-Vitamin D (?) and claims for protect against UVA/UVB, Blue Light (computer screens), and pollution. It’s affordable, comfortable to wear, a little goes a long way, and performs well under makeup when I’m wearing it. The lower spf isn’t a problem for me because I’m not standing in direct sunlight or anything. I think if I had my previous job working outside everyday I’d want a higher spf. Another line of defense I like to fall back on are SPF tinted moisturizers. A while back I had tried the PÜR - 4-in-1 Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 20 which is honestly such a dream. This is a photo of me wearing it on a midday walk. It’s low to medium coverage, buildable, hydrating, and stays put! I don’t have very oily skin or especially dry skin so I feel it is a happy medium for those with normal or combo skin types. By no means is it full coverage. I slap this on (using my fingers to apply) if I’m planning to go for a walk in the sunshine or on a hike, in addition to my base layer of SPF. Of course, the best preventative is keeping the sun off your face at all costs, so you’ll usually see me on the trails with one of my favorite floppy hats, or sometimes if I’m feeling jazzy - my Bluestone Sunshield (see a few posts back). Do you wear SPF every day? Have you made any lifestyle changes for the sake of beauty/anti-aging? Share your tips or thoughts below!

I like it but .....
Supergoop! - 100% Mineral Smooth & Poreless Matte Screen SPF 40 I like it but for me it is very drying, I have combination skin but I am drier than oily, its application is easy, it blends very well, it does not leave white but I do not like it! I'M LOOKING FOR THE PERFECT SUN PROTECTOR FOR MY SKIN

Products that helped my acne
I’ve struggled with acne since 7th grade (I’m 20 now). I have used a lot of products and there are a handful I want to share that have really helped me get closer to my clear skin goal. PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator this is by far the best product I’ve ever used. My skin looks smoother and my acne has subsided tremendously. I can’t get enough of this. (I use it twice a week, working up to three). I really do believe this product is essential for clearer skin! CeraVe - Daily Moisturizing Lotion For Normal To Dry Skin this moisturizer has been my go to for about 5 years. It always keeps my skin hydrated and really helped when I was on acne prescriptions because my skin would always get really dry. Curology - Curology formula I have a whole post dedicated to this, but it really did help me a lot. I like having dermatologist prescriptions over other treatments. So, this was a great option for me and worked wonders! CeraVe - Hydrating Face Cleanser For Normal To Dry Skin I used to use the harshest face washed out there and strip my skin completely. This cleanser really helped me repair my moisture barrier and was gentle. My skin started looking really good after about 12 uses of this. The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% this stuff is a miracle in a bottle!! My face is way less sensitive and my oils are under control. The redness from my acne subsides with the help of this product and I find it to help my acne heal and become smaller faster. Kate Somerville - EradiKate Acne Treatment this treatment really helped me when I had minimal breakouts. This dried out my pimples over night and helped them go away faster. This was a really nice treatment and I plan on using it again when my face is clearer and I no longer feel the need to continue curology!!

How I Cleared My Acne in 3 MONTHS!!!
I‘ve struggled with cystic hormonal acne for years, but when I was diagnosed with breast cancer this summer, I didn’t imagine I’d experience the worst breakout of my 27 years of life... I was so overwhelmed and stressed, that I honestly forgot all about my skincare until it looked like this! And just like breast cancer, cystic acne hurts physically and mentally, but I had to regain control. I couldn’t control what was happening to me, but I could refocus, change my perspective, and restart my skincare routine 😅 Then I was gifted this medically personalized product to try and this is was my three month progress! 👏🏼✨ It’s different for everyone, but I noticed a difference in my skin after 4 weeks of consistent use. I’d say, it’s definitely worth a try, so I’ll leave a link to a 1-month trial for $4.95! http://curolo.gy/RebeccaSantos (No, I don’t get commission or any form of payment for this post or if you use my link.) I don’t know what to do
The first photo to the left is my left side of my face on November 3rd of 2020, the second photo the right is the left side of my face today Janurary 10th 2021 November 2nd is the first day I started tretinoin 0.025% Around December 15th I believe I decided to switch to differin instead because I had lost my Health insurance so I couldn’t afford it. Since then my skin care routine has comepletely changed Im not sure why my skin just keeps getting worse. My cysts and spots will go down and as soon as they are looking good I get a bunch of cystic spots all over, every single one of my closed comedones are turning into big red cysts and pimples that take forever to go away, none of my acne goes away within a few days. I feel like it’s just spreading and I’m getting more and more closed comedones as well. This is my routine *i started with tretinoin Nov 2nd 2020, I used it every 3 nights for a few weeks and then went on to use it every other night up until around December 15th 2020 I started using Differin i started using that every 3 nights for the first week and some, then I used it every other night for a few weeks and now I’ve been using it every single night consistently the past few weeks* AM •DIFFERIN - Daily Deep Cleanser BPO 5% OR VANICREAM - Gentle Facial Cleanser •LA ROCHE-POSAY - Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer UV SPF 30 PM •VANICREAM - Gentle Facial Cleanser •e.l.f. - Holy Hydration! Face Cream - Fragrance Free •DIFFERIN - DIFFERIN Acne Treatment Gel My routine as you can see is very simple, my face is just getting worse and I don’t know if it’s because I’m purging still, or something is making me breakout?! I’m feeling hopeless 😩 my PIH and scaring is so bad already and it’s just getting worse :,( please help I’ll take any advice I could get. I’m seeing a derm on the 18th of this month I finally saved some money for. I’m hoping they can help me :(

Exfoliating 101
What's exfoliating? Why should you do it? How should you do it? If these are questions you have you're in the right place! Exfoliating is removing the top level of skin cells. It can be done physically or chemically, and will brighten the skin, smooth texture and can help to treat acne and wrinkles. For my combination, oily skin I like to use both physical and chemical exfoliants. I use chemical exfoliants daily in the form of exfoliating toners, and use a physical exfoliant once a week to give my skin a reset. Exfoliating helps me to address breakouts and hyperpigmentation! By speeding up the cell renewal rate I'm able to lighten dark spots faster. Exfoliating is important, but for those with sensitive skin it can quickly lead to a compromised skin barrier! My skin can tolerate daily, gentle exfoliating but not all skin will react the same! If you have more sensitive skin an enzyme exfoliant will be a bit gentler than an acid bases one! Here are some of my favorites: Physical YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Yerba Mate Resurfacing Energy Facial iS Clinical Tri-Active Exfoliating Mask Chemical bejbiskin - Light Liquid Exfoliant BIOLOGIQUE RECHERCHE - Lotion P50 Enzyme KOSMETIC IMMUNITY - Enzyme Cleansing Powder URBAN SKIN Rx - Even Tone Smooth & Glow Enzyme Mask

GAME CHANGER...
Urban SkinRX has change my life.. As you can see the before and after photos are bananas. My daily makeup consists of only my eyebrows. I've come a long way as you can see. It took me about 4 months to get these results. Dont get me wrong I change my products depending on what my skin needs and the season... but these group of products have given me a more even and radiant complexion. Skin type: Extremely Oily, Acne prone. Remember when starting a new routine the skin must purge all the oil, dead skin, and all the nasty stuff deep undeunderneath the skin.

Talk about radiance
This product is amazing! I got it as a sample in an order I placed from Dermstore and I love it so much I am going to buy a full size as soon as I am out. It has a very neutral smell to it (many vitamin c and ferulic acid products have a funky smell), it works very well for brightening due to the vitamin C, and over time you can see it slightly diminishes the look of fine lines all over the face thanks to the ferulic acid. Additionally, as someone who suffers from redness in certain areas of my face, the phloretin is game changer. After about 1-2 times of using I have immediately seen a reduction in redness. I highly recommend this product because not only is it versatile in the benefits it can provide but it is actually effective. It’s expensive but worth the money and you only need a few drops a day. I highly recommend this product.

I’m talking Baby, like face 👶🏻🧠
Hey beauties! I needed to share my feedback about these SkinCeuticals products because I am beyond impressed by the quality and results. The products are pricey but they are well worth it. Consider your skin an investment and spending the money will only help preserve and grow your investment. It’s like your own personal company you get to look at everyday! SkinCeuticals’ products are a MUST to have in your skincare collection. Not only have I struggled with hyperpigmentation ever since I began incorporating birth control into my life I used to WORSHIP the sun and tanning beds! (so glad I’m out of the Jersey shore baked look days, lol) don’t get me wrong I love a nice glow when Im feeling pale which is why I use St. Tropez Self Bronzing Foam ( I will post before and after pictures and blog about that for you guys interested in a sunless tanner that gives a natural appearance, Oompa Loompa skin is not welcome around here!) So anyhow, I began researching skin care companies that were backed by science since who doesn’t like a formula calculated to perfect your skin concerns! Tip: Since SkinCeuticals is backed by science the company invests directly into your skin, there is no aroma, it is fragrance free, if you want something that smells good spray some perfume on you, fragrance free is the way to be! Here’s the products I LOVE: For Hyperpigmentation, melasma, or discoloration concerns: CE Ferulic Serum - this serum provides the skin with a bright plump hydrated appearance. lightweight product, Phyto+- lifts darkened pigment, plumps dull skin PhloretinCF- lifts darkened pigment For hydrating/plumping skin: A.G.E Moisturizer- hydrates skin beyond belief ( I’m not a water drinker and feel like spongebob everyday so I NEED a product that keeps my skin full of moisture) Anti-aging PM- 0.5 Retinol : START SLOW FIRST , less is more as mies van der rohe would say, quick and effective skin cell turn over , repairs dead skin cells and helps new and healthy skin grow faster. I suggest about a pea size of this and use 1-2x a week first then everyday after your skin has adjusted. Retinol makes the skin VERY sensitive to light so PLEASE use an spf 50! Face wash- Skinceuticals gentle cleanser , the name says it al, it’s a gentle combination yet gets the job done

Friends Don’t Let Friends Skip Sunscreen
Hello my fellow sunscreen beauties! Okay so this sunscreen is the absolute HOLY GRAIL of any sunscreen that I have tried. It feels like an additional layer of skin that’s how light weight it is. SPF stands for “sun protection factor” need I say more ?! SPF is the NUMBER ONE way to prevent skin from prematurely aging. Using an SPF lowers your risk of harming premature skin. UV rays cause wrinkles so if we can use a product to avoid those UV rays from penetrating the skin barrier why not do it, it only takes 10 seconds to apply it to your Face and will save you a lifetime of wrinkles! UVB rays are the bad type of sun that cause cancer. Wearing SPF lowers the risk of developing cancer! Always use 30 or higher. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, “SPF 30 prevents 97% of UVB radiation and SPF 50 prevents 98% of UVB Radiation.” Even though we can’t see these UV Rays our skin can surely feel them! UVA(ultraviolet A) is associated with skin aging where as UVB (ultraviolet B) is associated with skin burning. As Neutrogena says UV(A)ging and UV(B)urning. Not only does this product feel amazing it also has this pretty warm glow to it to give the skin the appearance of flawless architecture! The glow is not overpowering but just enough. We’re not living in the 1920’S so we surely don’t want to look like a walking disco ball ! The compatibility of the sunscreen is also very nice when pairing with other Skinceuticals face serums as well as other bands. It does not crumble off.

for my skin the best
I never took good care of myself and I started doing it about a month ago this is my night routine I love everything I use I feel my skin is cleaner and smoother, I love the peach slices tonic, it leaves me a very beautiful glow on my skin. Aveeno cream is the best for my skin along with retinol so that it doesn't irritate me, the truth is that I love these products! My skin is mixed with a tendency to break out pimples and this has not caused me any of that! SKINCEUTICALS - Retinol 0.5 Retinol Night Cream The first weeks I irritated my skin I felt super sensitive, everything burned, but over time my skin got used to it and it has helped me a lot with my spots. Aveeno - Calm + Restore Oat Gel Moisturizer When my skin is irritated by retinol, I found this beauty cream, I love it, it calms me, it refreshes me and it leaves my skin feeling rich.

RETINOIDS: TIPS FOR FIRST TIME USERS
Hello👋everyone! If you are someone who’s interested in starting Retinoids or just needs to understand more about it then this post is for you!!! 😀 Retinols ⁣are topical treatments that help stimulate cell turnover, bringing healthier, more smoother and radiant✨skin to the surface. Retinoids is the umbrella☂️term for any cream derived from vitamin A basically! ⁣ Here’s what you need to do: - Start with a low strength concentration (say 0.3%) and let your skin adjust to it before increasing the concentration to 0.5% and then further to 1%. - Buffer with moisturizer by either mixing retinol directly with a moisturizer or applying moisturizer first and then adding retinoids. - Use SPF 30🧴or more during the day. - Start by using once a week for two weeks and then increase to 2 times for upto 2-3 weeks. Increase gradually! - Use with Niacinamide as it can make retinol easy to use and help in minimizing skin irritation! - Avoid putting retinol around eyes👀, mouth and upper lips as it can potentially cause irritation and dryness. Follow these⬆️ tips if you’ve just started your Retinoid journey to make your transition much smoother! Here are the two Retinol products I use: SKINCEUTICALS - Retinol 0.5 Retinol Night Cream REVOLUTION - 0.5% Retinol Super Serum with Rosehip Seed Oil Let me know in the comments if you’ve got questions about Retinoids and I’ll be more than happy 😊 to answer! 💕⁣ ⁣ ⁣DISCLAIMER: I’m a licensed esthetician but not a doctor! The information presented on this page is not intended to provide diagnosis or treatment. I try to provide information through my knowledge, experience and research. Please consult a doctor for any medical diagnosis. Products recommended are personal suggestions that worked for me so they may or may not work for you necessarily. #CheriePartner

FULL Gentle Hydrating Skincare Routine
This has kind of been the theme of my entire Cherie page since its creation, but I’ve been needing to really hydrate my skin more since the weather’s become colder. Having rosacea means I always need to do extra research on the products I try. So after some experimenting, trying a LOT of new products, and deciding to stick to some old favorites, this is the routine I’ve come up with for myself: AM Routine Cleanser - Inkey Oat Cleansing Balm: A recent switch for the winter. Leaves my skin feeling nourished and hydrated, but doesn’t tackle my acne very effectively. Might switch back to my old cleanser (Cosrx Good Morning Gel) and just use this when my skin is feeling tight/for double cleansing. Toner - FAB Wild Oat Ultra Hydrating Toner: Another recent switch. This toner is so hydrating that I don’t need to use hydrating masks or overnight creams as frequently as I used to and it’s very calming. Serum - Peach & Lily’s Glass Skin Refining Serum: This is definitely worth the hype. My skin has been noticeably smooth since using it. Spot Treatment - TULA Go Away Acne: Uses benzoyl peroxide to work on acne which can interfere with rosacea, so I don’t use this on my cheeks but it works well in other areas. Not a repurchase for me. Eye Cream - Cetaphil Deep Hydration Refreshing Eye Serum: I said recently that eye cream doesn’t work for me, but I’m starting to get wrinkles under my eyes and thought it was important to kick up the hydration and attention. This one is quite gentle and pretty affordable. Moisturizer - CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion: Undefeated! If I need some extra hydration I’ll add a couple drops of Leo Oil and mix on my hand using my ring finger. Sunscreen - EltaMD SPF 46 on days with no makeup or ILIA Serum Skin Tint: Both are mineral sunscreens and unscented with protection in the 40s. PM Routine Cleanser - The Inkey List Oat Cleansing Balm: ...and I’ll double cleanse with my old Cosrx Good Morning Gel if I wore makeup that day. Toner - FAB Wild Oat Ultra Hydrating Toner Serum - Paula’s Choice CALM 1% BHA Lotion Exfoliant or 10% Azelaic Acid Booster: I like to alternate between these two serums. The BHA (salicylic acid) targets pores and redness. The Azelaic Acid Boost contains salicylic acid too, but is more effective at targeting rosacea specifically. Eye Cream - Veriphy 20/20 Eye Cream: Received this as a gift and I actually really like it! Contains ingredients like peptides, niacinamide, and cucumber extract. But it’s wildly expensive and I won’t be able to repurchase. Moisturizer - CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion + Astrologiens Leo Oil: At night I always combine these two if I’m not using my Naturium Sleeping Cream (2 pumps + 2 drops). I have individual reviews on a number of these products, so if you’re interested in learning more about something feel free to check those posts out or just ask a question here :) Most of these products are generally rosacea and sensitive skin safe. I have type 1 rosacea for reference.

Unpopular Opinion 🤷🏽‍♀️
I received this sunscreen absolutely free from Elta MD so thank you guys y’all are lovely for doing such awesome Giveaways. Now as for my thoughts. I was so excited to try this; it has amazing reviews and it has niacinamide in it so what’s not to love? Right? Wrong! This sunscreen pilled up so bad on my face. No matter what I put under it or didn’t put under it. Even upon reapplication it still pilled up. Now when I used this on my hands and body it was completely fine; no pilling. Just on my face did I have the issue. So I gave this to my mom to see if she has better success with it. If not it was a great hand and body sunscreen for me. It does go on white (when I saw the name I thought it would actually be clear, but no. The clear in the name refers to its skin clearing ingredients.) however, it works in without too much effort and didn’t sting around my eyes. I think this is in fact a great sunscreen it just didn’t work at all for me and my face. So I will move on to my next sunscreen.

Chemical Sunscreen Verzuz
One thing about me: I love a mineral sunscreen because of the way it interacts with the skin as a physical barrier on top versus being absorbed like a chemical sunscreen, but I will say one of these sunscreens is a strong contender for my favorite. Any guesses which one?👀 Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 A chemical sunscreen after my own heart. The first time I put this on, I was amazed by how smooth it felt. It didn’t smell strong or remind me of the beach. If I wore makeup, I could see this easily being layered with my other products. Down side: As minimal as it was, I have felt some irritation using this sunscreen and it’s no surprise because it’s a chemical sunscreen (chemical sunscreens have a lot more ingredients compared to mineral ones, so it can be hard to pinpoint what ingredient causes a reaction if you have one). FENTY SKIN - Hydra Vizor Invisible Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen I wanted to love it, I did, but I’m scared of fragrance especially when I have to put it on my skin. This moisturizing spf does smell sweet. This one actually reminded me of my beach visits because it has that typical sunscreen scent once the floral one wares off. Some I’m still dealing with my acne, I don’t want to take too many chances with the products I use, so overall I’ll be sticking to mineral sunscreen. What have y’all experienced with chemical sunscreens?

MY MOST USED “NO FAIL” AM ROUTINE
The products you see have been products I’ve been using time and again for two years, around the time I got serious about my skincare life. These steps I never skip although I have added others or tried different brands. I will say again that I have used a more expensive version of Hyaluronic Acid and while it truly felt soft and comforting to my face, I don’t feel this is where my high dollars need to be spent. INDIE LEE - Brightening Cleanser best cleanser around! You can even leave it on longer and use it as a mask! This helps target dull, uneven textures, dark spots and pores. It’s a gel like texture. I am all about products that brighten my skin. INDIE LEE - CoQ-10 Toner next up is to tone and what better with one that will hydrate, soothe and protect your skin with the antioxidant coenzyme Q10 and Hyaluronic Acic! Plump that face up! I like to splash just a few drops of water on my face first then come in with Co-10. All we can do to help seal that hydration 💦 THE inkey LIST - Hyaluronic Acid Serum Then comes HA to really lock in that hydration. So may find it hard as people claim it can be “sticky” or “tacky” but I go right it after spraying my Co-Q10 and do a quick rub and then immediately tap it in. Then let it completely dry. If you don’t, you can have your following products pill, and believe me, that’s not fun! I believe everyone should have HA in their routine. There are so many variations out there at many different cost points but if you do your research and are comfortable using what works for you, go for it. Mine costs me $6.80 a month. I use it both am & pm. FARMACY - Very Cherry Bright 15% Clean Vitamin C Serum with Acerola Cherry depicted in the picture as the cute little 🍒 is VCB. I am currently out and my order is taking much longer than I’d like. But I have probably used almost 10 different brands of vitamin C (in comments) and I’ll still be goin back to Farmacy. I love the light scent and I had seen results pretty quickly, never any side effects. TATCHA - The Dewy Skin Cream I have a handful of creams I do adore and I could really probably spend less than dear ole Tatcha, but oh I do so love this cream. It just makes my face so happy. It’s a bit richer but my mother who has oily skin loves it! If I am hanging inside - tbh that’s 90% of my life - I do a light amount and then follow up about 10 mins later with sunscreen. Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 I do wear sunscreen indoors although I’m never near direct light. Life of a migrainer! 🤯but I figure one can’t aver be too careful. Plus I have ones open unfinished from the summer. But it is my stance that, yes, you should weat sunscreen indoors. It’s your best line of defense! Unseen Sunscreen makes me feel as if I have nothing on! My most used, never fail AM routine! ❤️ @cheriefam 🍒

Shop Sephora - Favorite Serums
I could go on and on with so many serums/treatments but I figured I’d cover just the basics. To me, personally, I feel a good skincare routine should have vitamin C & retinol in it. The retinol I use is from Medik8 - Crystal Retinal and hands down is the best I’ve ever tried. I also feel a routine needs Hyaluronic Acid in it and you can’t go wrong using Niacinamide either. First up I always apply a toner after washing and INDIE LEE - CoQ-10 Toner $34 has been my favorite since discovering it over a year ago. I love how hydrating it is. This just leaves my skin feeling calm and refreshed every time I use it. I always keep a mini in my purse which is wonderful during the hot summer months. 😰 THE inkey LIST - Hyaluronic Acid Serum $7.99 Hyaluronic Serum is always my next step. I want to keep my skin super hydrated and lock that hydration in! I’ve used a handful of HA, some on the pricey end and while I can feel a difference, I don’t feel this is where I need to spend a large amount of money on. I feel more money needs to go into the targeted areas of treatment (vitamin c and retinol). The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% $5.90 I skipped out on this for a few weeks after I had been using it for a full year and let me tell you, I could see a difference. My face just looked dull. And I had been doing everything else except keeping up with my Niacinamide. Once I added it back in my skin responded favorably. It can be a bit “soapy” so I have to just let it settle a bit before moving too quickly onto the next step. But I really find it essential in maintaining a balanced face. FARMACY - Very Cherry Bright 15% Clean Vitamin C Serum with Acerola Cherry $62 Ok, again, I have a personal beef with Farmacy but I gotta say I’ve tried a lot of vitamin C’s out there and this one has been the best. I’ve used three bottles and been out for awhile now and really miss it. I’ve been using Perricone MD - Vitamin C Ester Serum and am not impressed so far. Personally I love the light cherry scent of Farmacy. Perricone has little to no scent so that is always a plus too. But I really did see changes with Farmacy so I will most likely go back. If you have any questions about any products I have not listed that you are considering purchasing let me know. I have tried out a lot or may know someone to direct you to that can answer them. Also, I HIGHLY URGE YOU TO DO YOUR RESEARCH! Please don’t just purchase something based off what I use as it may not work for you. Put in the time to do some leg-work and research the product. Anytime I am considering purchasing a product I always check out a few sites for reviews (not just the brands as they are bias) and look into the ingredients. Cherie is one an amazing source! The reviews on products are growing by the day! Much love 😘🍒

SKINCARE LINE-UP: BAD SKIN DAYS
This is my go-to skin routine on mornings when I wake up to “blah” skin; maybe I have a few breakouts, skin’s looking a bit dull, or I just need a “feel-good” routine to make me feel better about my skin. Background info: I have combination skin that is sometimes dehydrated. My skin is also very tolerant of active ingredients. THE inkey LIST - Beta Hydroxy Acid This BHA from TheInkeyList has 2% Salicylic Acid which really helps to exfoliate the skin and unclog pores (which then reduces blemishes!) It also has Zinc (to control oil production) and Hyaluronic Acid (to hydrate and plump skin)! I apply it by putting two drops on my palms and pressing it into the skin. ALPHA-H - Vitamin B Serum With Niacinamide This is a cocktail of amazing ingredients like Niacinamide to improve skin texture, Copper peptides to rejuvenate skin cells and boost collagen and elastin production, and Chia Seeds which are rich in Omega-3, fatty acids and antioxidants to plump and hydrate skin. I also apply a few drops to my palm and press into my skin. SKINCEUTICALS - C E Ferulic With 15% L-Ascorbic Acid Vitamin C Serum My favorite Vitamin C/antioxidant serum! It brightens the skin, and boosts the performance of my sunscreen so I make sure to incorporate it into my routine every morning! This formula also includes L-ascorbic acid which is a rich antioxidant ingredient that neutralizes free radicals and protects against oxidative stressors, and Ferulic Acid which has similar benefits, enhances antioxidants and stabilizes the Vitamins C & E. YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream with Ashwagandha + Reishi To lock in all the active ingredients in my toners and serums, I love this cream from Youth To The People because it feels thick and nourishing. The key ingredients in this cream include Squalane, Ashwagandha, and Fermented Reishi which together helps boost skin hydration, minimizes risk of clogged pores, reduces visible signs of fatigue and detoxifies and combats signs of aging. ILIA - Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40 This is my secret weapon when it comes to bad skin days. This lightweight serum can be applied on its own or as the last step in your skincare routine! It’s lightweight, tinted and evens out skintone. This also contains Squalane, Zinc Oxide (a physical sunscreen), Hyaluronic Acid and Niacinamide (all the ingredients I love!). It offers great sunscreen coverage, just make sure to apply enough or as I sometimes like to add this on top of my regular sunscreen for extra protection and a skin tint! I work really quickly with this product to prevent pilling so I use half a dropper of this product, rub quickly between my palms and apply to the face. This routine gives me a GLOW for when days I’m not looking my best!

Easy morning skincare in a rush💨
Easy morning skincare in a rush💨
Ever had days you feel so rush in the morning to keep up your skincare routine when you are almost later for school or work? I feel like every weekdays I am always in a rush especially in the morning when I race time time for bus or train. I love keeping a simple morning skincare routine just to buy myself a little bit more time. If you are like me.This is for you! DRUNK ELEPHANT - Umbra Sheer Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30 This Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30 is one of my favorite product from Drunk Elephant. First used a sample size from Sephora and then went for a full size. This Drunk Elephant uses Zinc Oxide 20% in this sunscreen. Unlike many other chemical SPF, this is a physical one. If you have acne prone skin, this is a really great product! If you have oily skin, you might not like it because of how hydrating it is. It Doesn’t take long for it to absorb into the skin. It mixes well with my foundation for a more sheer effect. It may leave a bit of a white cast on deeper skin tones. It doesn’t make me break out like a lot of other sunscreens. DRUNK ELEPHANT - B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum An anti-aging provitamin B5 gel that replenishes, brightens, and improves the appearance of skin texture. Absolutely love this gel. I use this after cleaning my face in the morning as a moisturizer. My skin is super hydrated and very plump. Honestly when you are in a rush, these is really no time to put on toner, serum or moisturizers layer by layer and wait them to be absorbed before another layer. It isn’t too sticky or oily, which is perfect for my skin type as a combination dry. I feel my skin stays hydrated throughout the day, my makeup applies beautifully on top without any issues. If I am not hurry, I would add 1-2 drops of marula oil to add extra nutrient in it. No need to mention how attractive the whole line of Drunk Elephant is. And it is easy to use. Even if you’re in a rush, you should always try to stick to your skincare routine each morning

Skincare Story: Acne to Eczema to Glow-Up
Skincare Story: Acne to Eczema to Glow-Up
When I started my skincare journey, I had the oiliest skin imaginable and dealt with constant hormonal breakouts. I tried every brand Sephora had to offer- each one filled with more fragrance, essential oils, and/or alcohol than the last. My skin quickly became overwhelmed and I broke out into terrible atopic dermatitis which would become chronic. And bam! I had eczema. It was... a struggle, to say the least. I went from oily to combination, with flare-ups that got me so dry I’d flake. Unpleasant. But I learned. I switched to fragrance-, essential oil-, alcohol-free skincare. Cleansers with gentle surfactants. Less exfoliation and more nourishing ingredients. Added hydrating products to reduce the dehydration that caused my oily skin and keep my now-combo skin happy. I gave my skin at least 2-4 no-actives rest days every week. My skin slowly recuperated. Now my hyperpigmentation is fading and my eczema flare-ups are less common. I still get breakouts, but they’re less painful and less long-lived. A few products (such as PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Azelaic Acid Booster and The Ordinary - Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2% ) are amazing for their role in reducing my hyperpigmentation, but I can’t emphasize enough how my acne and eczema flare-ups wouldn’t have improved if I hadn’t eliminated my triggers by switching brands. I stopped using fragranced brands like Origins, Fresh, Herbivore, Dr Jart, Tatcha, and Summer Fridays, and switched to biocompatible brands like Drunk Elephant, The Ordinary, The Inkey List, and Paula’s Choice. By taking out all possible irritants, my skin found peace. My acne reduced in frequency + intensity and I nowadays a combo of PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Niacinamide Booster and PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator keeps them short-lived. Skin rest days are still important but I can’t emphasize enough that your skin is an organ and everyone should be treating it as such 🙌🏽

5 Do’s and 2 Don’t’s to treat your hyperpigmenta
5 Do’s and 2 Don’t’s to treat your hyperpigmenta
We all have gone through dark spots I’m sure, whether it’s from an old acne spot, a sun spot or a scar. It’s disheartening when we want that beautiful even looking skin and then there are these dots of red or brown in the way. I have significant acne scarring and hella dry skin from years of cystic acne and destroying my skin.... so I’m going to give you my best tips! Do: Vitamin C! It’s a powerhouse antioxidant ingredient that fights free radical damage that can make these spots appear or even worsen them. It’s proven to lighten up and even skin tone for that beautiful bright glow! I love the Tatcha Violet C mask for weekly use as it somehow just brightens the skin quite instantly! TATCHA - Violet-C Radiance Mask Do: chemical exfoliation. This is your AHA products to dissolve the glue that is holding the dead and damaged skin to the surface. It helps get rid of them so healthier cells can find their way to the surface and shine! Honeymoon Glow from Farmacy is a fan favourite. Take it easy tho, a couple times a week is fine. FARMACY - Honeymoon Glow Serum Or you can do the ordinary peel once a week! The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution Do: Niacinamide. This is another superstar ingredient that will brighten up the skin and help those spots look lighter. It’s also good for oil control so that acne doesn’t pop up and cause more spots! The new cream from Caudalie is beautiful and will moisturizer at the same time! CAUDALIE - Vinoperfect Brightening Moisturizer with Niacinamide Do: Hydrate!! When treating skin concerns it can be easy to just dry the skin out and attack it with treatments. We forget how delicate our skin is. SO HYDRATE AND MOISTURIZE MORNING AND NIGHT!! Your skin will always look more healthy this way. Do: SPF! If you ain’t protecting the skin from damage, all the effort in your skincare is pointless. Protect from the sun who will cause those spots to get worse and even create them. Protect your precious newly exfoliated and brightened skin so it stays healthy. I don’t care the excuses. EVERYDAY! The new one from First Aid Beauty is lightweight, non greasy, gives a slight glow with its tint and works well under makeup FIRST AID BEAUTY - Weightless Liquid Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 Don’t: Over do it. Please keep the chemical exfoliation to once a week for a strong treatment or 3-4x a week for a more regular treatment. Overdoing it will literally make your skin 10x worse and more damaged, red and sore. Don’t: FORGET THE SPF. But also, please keep suntanning or tanning beds and such to a minimum. This will not clear your skin. It’s not worth it if you want clear skin. Bonus: Do not, please, do not pick at your face!! It’s satisfying to pop pimples or scratch a scab, but the scar lasts too long for it to be worth it.

My daily skin care routine for oily skin
My daily skin care routine for oily skin
Hey Babes!! 👋🏼 My skin hasn’t looked this good in so long, so I want to share with you my regimen for oily skin 😍😍😍. CLEANSERS: So daily in the morning and evening I either use the Murad - Essential-C Cleanser or the Shira - Pure Eucalyptus Cleanser . I find myself using the Murad 🍊 cleanser during the morning ☀️ more often because the vitamin c has antioxidants and brightens the skin. Plus it smells AMAZING!! The Shira cleanser has eucalyptus 🌱 which is great for oily or acneic skin because it has anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-microbial properties!! It also smells like you’re stepping into a spa and doesn’t irritate the skin. 😍 The Shira brand is also organic, natural and vegan friendly. 🙌🏼 In the evening 🌝 I will double cleanse with these products too in no specific order. 😂 EXFOLIATOR: SKIN SCRIPT - Raspberry Refining Cleanser I use every 3/4 days when my skin feels dull. MOISTURIZER: I’ve always been a Murad fan 💙💙, so my go to is their Murad - Nutrient-Charged Water Gel !! (Not pictured) I’ve posted about this before and why I like it. It leaves my face baby soft and since it’s water based, my skin isn’t left looking oily. I use this daily in the morning and evening. MORNING DAILY SERUM: I recently discovered a great new brand and love their vitamin c serum. insta natural - Triple Strength Vitamin C Serum !! This serum is very lightweight and contains niacinamide to balance oil production and glycolic acid to exfoliate and remove dead skin leaving a gorgeous glow. 🌟✨ the vitamin c has antioxidants to prevent free radicals which damaged your skin causing wrinkles and fine lines. It also brightens your skin if you have any acne scars or dark spots. 😍🥰 EVENING DAILY SERUM: I’m loving YEOUTH - Retinol, 2.5% Serum ! Aside from retinol, this serum has Aloe Vera and Hyaluronic Acid. The aloe will soother and the Hyaluronic Acid attracts moisture to your skin so it’s not left dry. 💧 💧. Retinol is great because it’s a form of vitamin A that exfoliates. It’s gentle enough for daily use and does not irritate my skin. Because this does have aloe Vera, the serum applies sticky, but dries smooth. I like using this at night because that’s the time your skin will start to heal and regenerate (another reason why it’s important to double cleanse). SUNSCREEN: A must!!! Anytime you exfoliate, you need to wear sunscreen!!I’ve been using MDSolarSciences - Mineral Crème Broad Spectrum SPF 50 UVA-UVB Sunscreen over 2 years now and it’s my go to. This physical sunscreen doesn’t clog pores and doesn’t leave a white cast. It leaves your skin looking matte, which is oily skin people love. 😍😍 I hope this helps you and inspires everyone to start their own regimen!! Please comment with any questions! ❤️❤️ Xoxo, Blyssey #cheriecreator
