Ello there 👋🏼 just a chick out here trying to simplify my routine and learn more about skincare.
Powder Products I Love!
It’s tough if you have dry skin, or are new to using powder products determining which ones are going to have good, buildable coverage. Also, whether or not the powder finish is going to look even on the skin, and doesn’t expose or create weird texture over time. Especially in the drier winter months! Major pluses to high quality powder products is that they usually layer well with cream or liquid products, don’t transfer much or at all, and get better over time throughout the day while maintaining an even coverage too. Here are my faves! Charlotte Tilbury - Darling Eyeshadow Palette truly worth the spend. These colors and shades are perfectly pigmented, can be used without primer, and still look & feel creamy and flawless. If you want a high-quality neutral palette, this is the one to invest in. tarte - Park Ave Princess Waterproof Face & Body Bronzer I still rave, and will continue to rave about this bronzer. It’s proven now to be a great year-round product for me! tarte - Blush Authority Amazonian Clay Cheek Wardrobe in frosted frappe, sweet cheeks, and sugar and spice, top to bottom shades. Great color combination, in shades and tones that are truly wonderful at multi-tasking too. They don’t feel heavy either! bareMinerals - Loose Powder Concealer SPF 20 I actually find even in the winter, this product looks amazing as a powder foundation. My spf gives such an overly dewy finish right now where it’s almost too shiny, and this concealer totally balanced out the finish while making my skin still look like it’s glowing from within while giving my complexion more of a natural finish. If I’m using certain liquid concealers that are too translucent, this layers on top nicely without adding texture under my eyes. What powder products do you love? Let me know!

New Year... New skin purge?!
So! I’ve been learning a lot the past two weeks on how diet can directly or indirectly impact your skin. There aren’t really many products here to chat about in this post today, because guess what? It’s mostly about food and how eating certain types of food regularly could change your skin, whether it’s positively or negatively. For me, it’s bad! For now. I personally believe food can impact one’s take on their personal beauty. Feeling good starts from the inside, and part of that can be what’s on the inside physically. I was feeling so bloated the past few months, both due to stress eating and mindless eating, and realized I was barely getting any fruits or veggies in my diet on a daily and sometimes almost weekly basis. Am I telling you here that you need to become vegan or vegetarian? Nope, (I personally still eat meat and have a bit of dairy here and there and that’s working well for me, yay!), but I think eating at least a few fruits or veggies a day can really help boost anyone’s energy. Alkaline foods, or low glycemic foods, have so many nutrients and essential vitamins that boost your immune system, circulatory system, and help ultimately fuel your energy. For more than 14 days, I have been juicing in the morning, while still having solid meals and protein (grilled veggies, rice and salmon for example). I have noticed a wonderful surge in consistent energy throughout the day starting from the AM- I feel mentally sharp, physically strong, and don’t feel moody or have mood swings as much or at all throughout the day. My skin right now? As you can see, breaking out, and my skin feels so itchy, irritated and my t-zone looks petty clogged up with sebum. I have sebum production OVERLOAD on my face lol. What has been helping is keeping my routine really simple- I’ve been using FIRST AID BEAUTY - Pure Skin Face Cleanser and THE inkey LIST - Oat Cleansing Balm to cleanse, and it’s really helping with the irritation right now while getting rid of impurities in flushing out through my skin. No makeup except mascara! Also, to moisturize I’m using FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration to ensure my moisture barrier isn’t being compromised, and really calm the dryness and irritation (with me leaning towards being more of a dry skin type). But I mainly wanted to share these photos and my thoughts because I think that diet isn’t talked about as much, and think a discussion about it could be really cool to help us all learn from each other. While I don’t feel diet has the biggest impact the way regularly wearing sunscreen and using treatment products daily does, I do feel it’s important to talk about with folks who might be wanting to take on bigger resolutions this year. Just like adding a new skincare product into your routine, adding new things regularly into your diet could give you a purge period. What are your thoughts?! Let me know!

The Most Underrated Toner Out There!
VERSED - BABY CHEEKS I have been LOVING on this product as the last step in my cleansing routine. Remember, this guy needs to be shaken before used- you’ll see the milkyness the product is talking about! It’s priced at $17.99 at Target. It’s great at prepping my skin for serums and treatments because it leaves my skin feeling clarified without stripping anything in my moisture barrier away. I am using a strong Curology evening formula currently and finally have introduced a great vitamin c product into my routine too. I find that since introducing Baby Cheeks, I’ve been getting more of my treatment products and see more glow in my face. So happy with this, and will be repurchasing! Great for anyone who: -wants to catch the last bit of makeup that might have been missed from cleansing along the edges of the face -has drier skin in the winter -wants a multi-purpose product for the beginning of their routine -wants a hydrating toner for a more affordable price point -has sensitive skin + wants a toner Wooohooo! Tell me what you think of this product. So far with each Versed product I’ve tried, it’s been fantastic. Who else feels the same way?!
Day of Glossier ✨✨✨(makeup)
(Note: not sponsored by Glossier, I don’t post enough to warrant someone wanting to sponsor me 😂🙌🏼 just a huge fan) Okay! So today I spent the entire day trying on Glossier products, after purchasing to my personal (obviously not my bank account’s delight) delight with their yearly/ Black Friday sale- I got so many friends special gifts from this. This brand feels somewhat polarizing to me, but I gotta say, their resurgence in makeup popularity didn’t seem too surprising to me. I get that it’s not for everyone, but don’t knock one of their products until you try it! Here’s how it went with everything: Glossier. - Generation G Sheer Matte Lipstick this is the first time I’ve ever felt good about wearing a matte lipstick. I have dry skin and lips and I was insanely positively surprised. Didn’t even exfoliate the night/ morning before, nor were my lips that hydrated at all. This glides on really nicely, contrary to when I first saw models applying an earlier version of this formula- it looked like they really had to pull to drag the stick across their lips. But it feels way more effortless to do so! I got it in Cake, their neutral brownish pink shade. So perfect for fall and winter, and makes my hazel eyes pop! The wear is long lasting, and there’s some sort nostalgic smell going on here. I will be forever repurchasing this as my go-to lipstick. Lastly, love how this product really clicks to close so securely. My biggest pet peeve is when lipsticks or products with caps accidentally open up and cause you to look product in your makeup bag or purse! Glossier. - Boy Brow y’all have heard me rave about this product enough lol. It keeps my brows in place and thickens them without drying down stuff or tacky. Fantastic formula! Glossier. - Lash Slick Mascara loved this! Humble brag: my eyelashes naturally curl easily, so take that as the reason why I knocked it down to 4 out of 5. It’s a great fit for my lashes and works well with them, but I don’t think this is a fit for everyone. Regardless, works well for bottom lashes. Last positive- does not transfer! Glossier. - Cloud Paint Seamless Cheek Color in both Dusk and Beam. I lean towards neutral colors and wanted a neutral look here, so these were perfect. Highly pigmented cream blush where a little goes a long way, spreads easily, and truly is long-lasting. I additionally used Dusk on my eyes for the monochromatic look. The only product not Glossier was my favorite drug store concealer- e.l.f. - Hydrating Camo Concealer it slips with you without setting into fine lines and truly is hydrating. My eyes feel so good with this after nights of salty food or if I’m dehydrated one morning. It’s buildable in coverage too. If you are going to buy yourself or gift someone concealer, it needs to be this one!
Sephora + Drugstore Makeup Loves $15 or Less!
I have been so happy with each and every one of these products as I’ve switched into using makeup for the new, drier season. REVLON - Photoready Candid Glow Moisture Glow Anti-Pollution Foundation Amazing!! It has aloe Vera as one of its top 3 ingredients, and leaves a brilliant, satin finish. It’s great for dry-skinned folks in the winter who can’t fully commit to matte, but want a medium/ buildable coverage that has a beautiful, natural finish. It works well with cream and powdered products, and claims to work against blue light! FENTY BEAUTY - Flypencil Longwear Pencil Eyeliner for anyone who is bad with their hands, but still wants to rock a gel liner, this is it! It’s so smooth, easy to use, and is great for every day- it’s blendable if you decide you want to smoke it out instead. I got this on sale as a Sephora VIB member during a huge seasonal sale with over 20% off each item, but regular price it’s $22. Still not bad! Totally worth it. #Tarte - Blush Authority Amazonian Clay Cheek Wardrobe[products]#[FiveStars] was used here. It’s a trio of items that can be used for blush, highlighting and bronzing. It blends so easily with a brush and is great for anything on the go since it’s so compact! ULTA BEAUTY - Maximum Lashes Mascara these work great for both bottom and too lashes to add length and definition. No transferring either, even when my eyes have gotten watery from my allergies! It’s my new and current go-to for mascara, or my first coat before adding on the miniMilk MAKEUP - KUSH High Volume Mascara for extra fluffy volume on my top lashes. All of these items were super affordable- and items I’ll be repurchasing. Woohoo!

Maximizing my Products: Fall to Winter Makeup!
Does anyone else have their skintone change drastically between fall and winter?! Here’s how to make the most out of your clean makeup before it expires- use your darker/ summer foundation basically as bronzer! I highly recommend ILIA’s SPF serum foundation all year round, because it keeps your skin hydrated and protected from the UVA/ UVB rays no matter what. You’re supposed to wear SPF all day every day anyways, so might as well have a foundation that adds to that protection. What I Do: -My AM skincare routine as I do, then apply an SPF moisturizer, usually Supergoop! - Superscreen Daily Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 40 PA+++ -Apply ILIA - Super Serum Skin Tint Broad Spectrum in my lighter winter skin tone/shade (my winter shade happens to be Formosa). Apply this along the neckline especially, so it matched and protects your neck and looks natural! -Apply ILIA - Super Serum Skin Tint Broad Spectrum in the darker tone/ shade across the cheeks, up into the ears and along the edges of the top of your forehead and temples. My darker/ summer shade is Ora. The colors between each other can begin to blend together and still looks like your cheeks are outer areas are naturally sunkissed- you don’t look discolored whatsoever! -Apply one shade of a neutral eyeshadow, mascara, and gloss! On days I’m going out for a stroll, I’ll use sun bum - Original SPF 30 Sunscreen Lip Balm, Pomegranate great flavor for winter too! This is a nice dewy finish if you’re still into that for winter. I am riding the dewy train forever because my dry skin is loving it! How do you maximize on your makeup between seasons? Let me know!

Not all alcohol is bad!!
You always hear that alcohols are so bad for your skin right? Well that’s the “bad” alcohols. Those are the alcohols that dry out and strip your skin of the oils it needs. When your face is stripped of those oils, it becomes vulnerable to bacteria and that causes breakouts 😩 Which ones are bad? Simple alcohols like SD alcohol, denatured alcohol, alcohol denat, and isopropyl alcohol. These you should definitely avoid in your skincare products. Like I mentioned above, these cause dryness (which speeds up the aging process 😳) and leaves your face unprotected from the bacteria that causes acne. ⭐️If these are really high up on the ingredient list, definitely don’t use them. However, if you have super oily skin and you like a product that has one of these listed further down the ingredient list (meaning small amounts) it won’t be that bad. Very small amounts of alcohol can be used to control oil and leave a matte finish. If you have dry skin however, best to avoid altogether. Good Alcohols ✨ There are some alcohols that are derived from natural sources like coconut 🥥 oil and are used as stabilizers and emulsifiers to help them keep their texture and for believe it or not, moisturizing! 😳 These alcohols are cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, and lauryl alcohol. They’re not drying or irritating to your skin at all. In fact, they have the opposite effect. There are “skin friendly “ alcohols so if you are reading the Ingredients (good for you!) in a new skincare product, don’t freak out if you see an alcohol listed. Keep the chart above handy to help you remember the good and the bad! One of my favorite things lately is learning to really read ingredient lists and learning about the individual ingredients! Always remember that Ingredients are listed from what’s in it the most to what’s in it the least. Example. If you have 2 niacinamides creams you are looking at, one has niacinamide listed 7th and one has it listed 3rd, the product with niacinamide in 3rd has more than the one listed 7th. Hope this helped! ❤️❤️
How long it takes for your products to work
Expecting results overnight from your skincare products is a recipe for disappointment. Unless it’s a cleanser or a toner/essence in which you should see results almost immediately, but these results are temporary and superficial. The timeline to see results is entirely dependent on what type of product you are using. On average 28 days is a good rule of thumb and the time it takes your skin to complete a full cell turnover cycle. A full cycle accounts for the time it takes for a fresh skin cell to appear, mature, die and shed. Deeper and long-term changes like acne, hyperpigmentation, etc. take longer because products like retinoids work at a genetic level. Use this guide to stick to your skincare products and be patient. A skincare tip would be to start one new product at a time.
Cherie made me buy it 🍒🖤
Anyone else see the reviews on here and immediately need to open up the Ulta app? That’s exactly how I felt when I kept seeing the FIRST AID BEAUTY - Eye Duty Niacinamide Brightening Eye Cream . I’m a huge fan of both the brand and niacinamide so I knew I had to try it out. This eye cream retails for $36 at Ulta, Sephora, and First Aid Beauty’s website and you get .5 oz of product (which is typical for an eye cream). It highlights niacinamide which is amazing for helping reduce the appear of fine lines/wrinkles and treats hyperpigmentation. They also included pumpkin seed extract, caffeine, and hyaluronic acid to plump and target pigmentation on the under eye area. Peach micro-pearls are added to the formula to color correct and brighten. So for me the claims seemed amazing! I have oily skin with insane dark circles (partly genetics and partly due to my lack of sleep/stress) that I still see no matter what under my full coverage concealer. The eye cream has a gel cream consistency that’s okay under the eyes. I’m not too blown away by it. It absorbs pretty well but I prefer either a water cream or cream consistency in eye creams. That being said it’s not heavy on the under eyes (it’s actually the opposite) and it lays really well under my make up. I’ve seen people claim they can wear this eye cream on their own to brighten up the under eye but from my swatch of the product (it’s on the thumb portion of my hand but not anything behind that) it looks extremely dewy and not a look I normally go for. If you like that dewy look under the eyes you will like this. Where I think this shines (Puns?) is under make up. At work I’ve come across a lot of customers who have severe dark under eye circles but are too scared to color correct or don’t want that extra layer under their eyes. I feel like this is the perfect solution for that. The peach tint is very slight but it’s enough to help cancel out those dark tones. It’s less heavy, and less scary for first time color correctors, then your typical under eye corrector and I do feel like my dark circles are less apparent under my concealer. The micro-pearl also works really well to compliment your concealer. It brightens up the under eyes and looks a lot more subtle than it does on its own. All around this didn’t blow me away the way I was hoping it would (which could completely be my fault as I was very hyped for this release) but I still think it’s a good eye cream. I think it does work in solving my dark under eye issues while still hydrating and not being too heavy. Sadly, this is online only at the moment but I do think it’s worth adding into your cart if you’re like me (like the brand or have dark under eye circles).
