We’ve all heard that applying sunblock is super important. Some of us put it on, some of us don’t...and on top of that, who actually reapplies? 🤪 Using the spf in your makeup as the only source of protection from the sun. I did that & as guilty as I was, I’ll tell you, it’s not enough.
Why is it not enough? Because you would need to apply a GENEROUS AMOUNT plus reapply every 3-4 hours (and every 2 if you’re out in the sun). Nobody wears that amount of makeup. After all, that’s why we have primers.
And I get it, it’s hard to wear sunscreen under makeup and even worse to put it over because: 1) it gives this icky oily feel 2) we think we are not in the sun long enough to need it 3) we forget to reapply Well, I’m not here to lecture you on sunscreen use but I’d like to tell you about this product and it’s a dermatologist favorite. ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️ elta md SKINCARE - UV Physical Broad-Spectrum SPF 41
Ingredients- titanium oxide and zinc oxide. This sunblock is a physical blocker meaning it mostly reflects UV rays away from the skin rather than absorbing them like chemical sunblock.
Smooth & lightweight. It doesn’t even feel like sunblock. It’s not greasy/oily/thick...etc. It feels more like a 2 in 1 tinted moisturizer with spf but this is the real deal ☀️ slayer.
Tinted: gives a nice sheer glow but it doesn’t provide coverage for dark spots. Also, contrary to most physical sunscreens, this does not leave a white residue layer!
No break-outs/clogged pores. Definitely a win in my book. Most sunscreens usually break me out and give me this oily feel that makes me want to wash my face over again. Not the case w this one.
Easy to apply under/over makeup. Since this sunblock is not greasy and thick, it can be applied under makeup and over it as reapply throughout the day.
My routine consists of putting my moisturizer on, then sunblock, then concealer, and then makeup. Throughout the day, I dab more sunscreen on, especially on areas where I have dark spots. It blend it in and it looks fresh. ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️ I have melasma/dark spots so I’m truly a sunscreen fan. I’ve tried many. Some were too thick, some were orangey 🍊, others left me looking like Casper 👻 . What did they all have in common? They made my makeup slide off as if it was melting on a hot summer day. It wasn’t until my dermatologist recommended this one to me and I am so grateful. In my humble opinion, It’s truly an underrated product. Also, with the help of this product and other hyperpigmentation treatments, my dark spots have faded so much. They’re not completely gone but I am very pleased with the results. I already posted about this with a before and after pic and will be posting another one on about a month or two to show the differences. ☀️Remember: Reapplying sunblock is just as important as putting it on. Please please do it.

Unpopular opinion: Elta MD Tinted Sunscreen = no
Several dermatologists, as well as many skincare influencers I love, have all raved about elta md SKINCARE - UV Physical Broad-Spectrum SPF 41 . My mom also uses this sunscreen every day and loves it. However, after trying this product multiple times, I have sadly concluded that it is not for me. 🙁 Scent: this product is scentless and does not have synthetic fragrance. Texture: the texture is thick and gloopy, it reminds me of BB Cream, but thicker. Application: I would apply this every morning after water washing my face, applying moisturizer, and letting it dry. Results: I gave this product two stars because: 1) I liked that it was formulated with sensitive/acne prone skin in mind. I didn’t experience any irritation from this product. 2) It also has Niacinamide, which can help fight free radicals and with textural/hyperpigmentation issues. However, my biggest problem with this product is the texture. It pills SO BADLY. If I used it over a lighter moisturizer like Cerave Moisturizing Lotion, the pilling was more manageable. But if I used it over anything thicker, it pilled like crazy. In the winter, I need a thicker moisturizer like Cerave Moisturizing Cream, and this sunscreen pills horribly—to the point where I am picking little balls off my face all day 🙃 I’ve tried waiting several minutes after moisturizing and have tried other thick moisturizers like FAB Ultra Repair Cream and La Roche Posay Lipikar Baume, and still have the same issue. My other problem is the tint. I actually like the way the tint blurred my pores and dark spots similar to how a BB Cream would. I am East Asian and it didn’t leave a white cast on me. But I disliked how easily the tint transfers. If I wore a white shirt and applied this sunscreen to my neck, the collar would be all stained by the end of the day. It also transfers quite a bit to the inside of my mask, as you can see from the photo. In summary, I appreciate that this product was formulated with sensitive/acne prone skin and POC skin tones in mind, but the textural issues made it a flop for me!

EltaMD Sunscreen
EltaMD Sunscreen
EltaMd Skincare is my go-to face and décolleté sunscreen. I can’t stress enough the importance of incorporating sunscreen into your daily routine. The lightweight EltaMD sunscreens are formulated with transparent zinc oxide and are noncomedogenic, sensitivity-free, fragrance-free and paraben-free. Their sunscreens range from 30-55 SPF and are endorsed by by the Skin Cancer Foundation. Oil-free EltaMD UV Clear (my favorite) helps calm and protect sensitive skin types prone to discoloration and breakouts associated to acne and rosacea. It contains niacinamide (vitamin B3), hyaluronic acid and lactic acid, ingredients that promote the appearance of healthy-looking skin. Very lightweight and silky, it may be worn with makeup or alone. Choose from tinted and untinted formulas for use every day. EltaMD UV Elements is a 100% physical sunscreen in a tinted, moisturizing base. It is gentle for even the most sensitive skin types, including post-procedure skin. Its chemical-free actives, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, provide safe but sure sun protection. These mineral-based UV filters work with ultra-hydrating hyaluronic acid to protect and hydrate the skin. UV Elements has a universal tint that beautifully enhances most skin tones for a more youthful appearance.

Great protection

Love this sunscreen. I have hyperpigmentation and this sunscreen lightly covers it and evens out. I apply this sunscreen everyday after my moisturizer and it goes on smooth and doesn’t make my face look oily. This is lightly tinted in color. So, it doesn’t have any white cast on my medium dark skin. This also doesn’t smell like other sunscreens out there. My makeup never pilled up when I used this sunscreen elta md SKINCARE - UV Clear Broad Spectrum SPF 46

Sunscreen without the white cast
Sunscreen without the white cast
I was introduced to this Peter Thomas Roth ‘Max Sheer All Day Moisture Defense Lotion’ by my esthetician. Besides the name being a mouthful. It’s one of the first sunscreens that I’ve used that didn’t leave that awkward white cast/residue on my face. - The name states that it has “all day moisture” and I can say that’s true and as a bonus it’s oil free which is amazing for my acne prone skin. I find myself skipping moisturizer in the morning and just using this most days. It is thicker in consistency so I do find that it locks in hydration well. In the rare occasion that I’m unbearable dry, I’d use both. I found this sunscreen to be interesting because it also has antioxidants in it, helping protect from free radicals. I’d like to add that a little goes a long way! That pee sized amount is the only application I use for my whole face, anything more work require a bit more elbow power and working in! - I would recommend this to WOC looking for a sheer application, for anyone who is dry or oily because their skin would thrive with this protection. It retails for $42 that’s very pricey in my opinion because there are sunscreens on the market for $25 and work just as great (Glossier Invisible Shield + SuperGoop Glow Stick). I did rate this a 4/5 stars because of price point. But I have had this bottle for over 4months and I feel like I still have ways to go! - I find this to be the most important step when working on my hyperpigmentation because I use a lot of exfoliating chemicals that would make anyone photosensitive and this has protected me against that. As well as preventing any current pigmentation from getting darker.

My holy grail sunscreen!
My holy grail sunscreen!
PURITO - Centella Green Level Safe Sun Product Function: The Purito Centella Unscented Sunscreen is marketed as a hydrating sunscreen suited for even the most sensitive skin types. In my books, it lives up to these claims. With advanced chemical filters, this offers great sun protection and can be used as a daily sunscreen. Product Target Concerns: suited for any and all skin types that want a great SPF! If you’re looking to fight hyperpigmentation and signs of aging, it’s critical to include a good SPF in your daily routine. Texture: Lightweight, creamy, and moisturizing, making this the perfect sunscreen. Overall Thoughts & Opinions: after trying this, I never want to buy another sunscreen. It is truly such an impressive product and I get excited to use it every day, even though I’ve been using it for months at this point. There is NO WHITE CAST no matter how much you apply to your skin, which is an impressive feat in itself. It’s one of the few chemical sunscreens that doesn’t break me out and I love that I can skip moisturizer in the mornings when I use this because it’s so hydrating on its own. Would I recommend? Without a doubt. I’ve already bought a backup because I know that this is the perfect sunscreen for me. It’s also super affordable at $15/60ml, making this a budget-friendly option. It’s perfect all around, and I’m sure that if you try it, you’ll love it just as much as I do.

This product is a sunscreen with spf 46 and can be used as a daily sunscreen. The product is specifically formulated for skin types prone to hyperpigmentation and roscea. It has a creamy texture that’s slightly more liquidy than a typically sunscreen. It works as a physical sunscreen and even though it’s a white color if you fully rub it in it won’t leave a white cast. I wanted to try it because I struggle with hyperpigmentation and when I saw a sunscreen formulated for this I had to try it! I have used it daily for a few months now and have really been loving it. It does the job by protecting me from the sun and never has broken me out. I think my hyperpigmentation has overall reduced and my skin feels calmer and less irritated. I would recommend this to others because sunscreen is essential no matter what and this a great option because it works and even has added ingredients for the perfect sun protection. The spf 46 sunscreen that I got in $28 which is a decent price especially considering the quantity you get! elta md SKINCARE - UV Clear Broad Spectrum SPF 46

Dermalogica Solar Defense Boost SPF 50 | Empty!
Dermalogica Solar Defense Boost SPF 50 | Empty!
{What are the claims?} Dermalogica Solar Defense Boost SPF 50 is a sunscreen that protects your skin with broad spectrum sunscreens to prevent sunburn, & sun damage that lead to pre mature aging. This formula contains antioxidants like grape seed oil to defend skin against sun exposure & free radicals. It is for all skin types & tone. {Texture/Consistency?} It is a lightweight lotion/cream formula. {My thoughts?} I finally finished this bomb sunscreen! I bought this in the spring of 2019 for me and my son because I tend to burn before I tan and he fell in the spring and long story short, has a scar on his fore head now and so I’ve done everything I can now to prevent it from getting worse later on in life! The dr told me to use sunscreen everyday on his scar even if it isn’t sunny and I did and this defiantly protected it! I really love this stuff. His scar has slowly faded using this product & it is super gentle it didn’t irritate his skin. It’s SPF 50 so it’s awesome and doesn’t leave a white cast on his tan skin! It lasted me almost a whole year of using it on his fore head and on my face when I needed extra protection & it didn’t break me out. It’s $55 for 1.7 oz but I would repurchase & I would recommend ! It’s defiantly great if you need extra protection. dermalogica - Solar Defense Booster SPF 50
